The big hump in the floor in the middle of the back row is because the batteries are arranged in a T-shape. They go through that center tunnel to the back seats and then go outwards under the rear seats. The Polestar 2 is based on the XC40, which started out as a gas/petrol car and that is probably why the idea works fine in the XC40 electric but not in the Polestar 2 with the lower roof (killing rear headroom).

Getting the chance to regularly drive both a tesla amd a polestar 2 over the summer. The tesla feels good 0-100 but stepping on the pedal from a rolling 20-30 kmh it feels like the polestar throws you back onto your seat significantly harder. Also the doors and everything inside feels SOLID

I have a Polestar 2 (with all upgrades (PPP) but not the BST version) and here are my thoughts:
    1. Great performing car. The 0-60 doesn't really tell a full story in terms of performance and tends to have better torque, drive feel, break performance, and heat management compared to other EV's in it's class. Also fantastic AWD.
    2. Range is mediocre at best (it's not the worst, but its certainly not great for the price)
    3. It's a great looking car, I'm constantly being asked by strangers what my car is.
    4. Interior is basic, but I like that.
    5. 1 cup holder?? Like, wtf? Too basic...
    6. I actually like the no frills Android auto infotainment system, its far superior to almost every OEM system I ever used (for a similar vehicle, the Ioniqs infotainment system was an extreme eye sore)
    7. Back seat is small, but I'm never riding back there.
    8. the Car is supposedly one of the most environmentally friendly vehicle ever produced.
    9. The car is way overpriced and if you're really interested in it, you should really only look at them used with 10k miles on them for the real price.
    10. Hard to fit smaller rims on the vehicle with those custom brembo breaks so tires are $$$$$.
Still love the car, easily the best vehicle I've ever owned, but don't get one thinking it's something that it's not.

Great points made here. I’ve been driving my Polestar for about 2 years. I chose to lease rather than buy as they had an incredible offer at the time. The biggest selling point for me was the cooled seats, which is surprisingly hard to find in this class of EV. I live in Las Vegas and this was my first cooled seat experience: now I can never go back. The seat upgrade costs about the same as the performance pack and it feels like every press car is equipped with the latter, but I promise the effect of a more comfortable seat far outweighs that of an extra 70 hp.

The advantages of using built-in Google Maps are fairly accurate estimates of battery level upon destination and charging opportunities along the way. The second cup holder is under the lid. Plug & Play wireless CarPlay module was $70 on Amazon. Wrapped the gloss center with wood grain. Looks better than OEM. As for the screen, I agree it could be better, and I’m sure it will be in future versions. Lastly, this is a driver’s car, and the interior accurately reflects that. There are cars that do this-OR-that better, but this one effectively combines quality and performance. 476 hp is no joke, and it has higher torque than a C8 Vette. It’s quick, smooth, solid, sure-footed, and braking is incredible! It’s an absolute blast to drive! For affordability, consider a lease. Especially given rapid EV advancements.

@@michaelrichter2528no one is buying this for exclusivity lol. 10 years from now this car is not gonna be remembered for anything other than being a disposable EV. No one will even know or care about the special numbered "BST" which has 0 brand cache or clout. No one buys a Volvo EV because it's special. These are not nearly as special as older Volvo's

    • @bogdancantemir

@@BCJDM Allow me to clear the mist in your brain :)
      - Polestar have build 230 of this BST version for particular EV enthusiasts, hence the price - as someone has correctly pointed out. Every time a car manufacturer builds a special edition there is a plan in place, the study is done if they can sell, to whom and what should be the price - it's called marketing department.
      - 10 years from now the brand will still exist, as they are currently selling good numbers is US, EU and UK. Considering the current and following legislations, the path it's already clear and it's set by governments - not by manufacturers.
      - about the disposable EV's - most of the EV batteries nowadays are over 90% recyclable. There is also a trend to build cars with materials that can be recycled. Again, the governments have a big part in this strategy and manufacturers have to comply.
      - the EV market it's not address to everyone, it's not for masses - at least not in present. You can definitely not compare it with older Volvo's, that was a different era with different priorities. The company has been bought by the Geely group, so might be the case it wasn't doing so great back then, instead they are building new models now for a new market.

Its a heavy car but this actually made it feel solid and well balanced on the road. I HATED the driver profiles and the head-unit's interface. What a pain in the ass. Overall, I really enjoyed this this car and feel that it's a better option vs a Tesla Model Y. Manufactures need to bring physical knobs and switches back. Wow, I drove this exact model before Marquez! I felt pretty much the same way. It’s a solid car that has some weird issues that were kind of annoying but not a dealbreaker.
The back seats are small but fine for our kids. When my wife was in the front I could sit okay in the back since she is shorter, but I’m a little shorter than Marquez and my head was also touching at times.
It really does handle like a car that weighs a lot less, despite this thing weighing a few hundred pounds more than my Telluride which is a full SUV! And it feels really fast on the road.
My biggest gripe was the front seat comfort, where if you move the seat back, you don’t have a good rest for your arm because of how oddly shaped that part is. That and the built in Google Maps app sucked. It was horrible. Even in areas with perfect coverage it just wouldn’t load half the time, and when it did work it seemed glitchy to me. Meanwhile CarPlay was perfect.
Odd little car. I wouldn’t buy one either, but I wouldn’t be upset if I had one. It fits a strange niche. It’s like some things are premium that probably don’t need to be, while other things should be better quality than they are. And it could use more range.
Bottom line: Everything except the driving experience is just a bit unbalanced. Difficult to describe until you spend some time in one. I got to drive this one for the full range.

      @ChristopherJewell_me 9 месяцев назад

The transmission tunnel is not wasted space because some of the car's battery is inside it. I find the center-console gives the driver the sensation of being in the cockpit of a fighter aircraft. It's all very Saab-like: a driver's car and not just a means to get from A to B as fast as possible. You take this car out to have fun on the back roads as well as to do daily humdrum trips.

I test drove the Polestar 2 and agree with your description of the handling. It was easily the most fun car I have ever driven. Even the non-performance version was super zippy, and tuning the steering to be stiff I found it handled incredibly well.
Unfortunately, the "V" shape of the center console made it impracticably uncomfortable for my legs, and I'm only 5'11". I'm surprised your 6'3" did not complain about this. Ultimately I decided there was no way I could road trip in a car where I had no comfortable place for my legs, and opted for the EV6 instead. Shame, because I've driven Volvos for over 35 years.

Last Nov I got the Polstar 2 2024 facelift single motor long range version. I can totally recommend it. I like almost everything about this car. Single motor rear wheel drive is enough for most people. I have only few issues with it:
-price, could be lower but you get a lot of tech and equipment and in my case I got a very good deal
    -the cup holder situation
-the back is not for tall people (although in my case for 2 kids in the back it is totally fine)
-they could have made it slightly more aerodynamic and efficient. Yes, I know Polestar focuses a lot on design and they don't want their cars to look like eggs but bmw i4 looks good and it has much better drag coefficient.
Between this and tesla I think it comes down to couple of things. If design is very important for you, if you prefer more old school interior (where there is much more than giant ipad in the middle), if you don't like Elon and have a bigger budget or get a good deal on the car than Polestar 2 is great choice. If the most important for you is efficiency and 0-60 time and you like super minimalistic design than tesla model 3.

I’ve been trying to get in touch with the director of customer service at Polestar to offer my expertise…I’m passionate about the car/brand, but the service centers are tainting the owner experience 1000%.

AFAIK the polestar 2 is the only car currently on sale which already supports CarPlay in the Instrument Cluster. When CarPlay Navigation is used, the Google UI will change to Apple Maps UI.
Also - I think Polestar is on a goood enough track record as a software Company. Got like 10 updates for mine already and stuff like CarPlay got added to mine a year after I got it. Charging speeds got improved OTA.
Nevertheless it’s got flaws, but for my (German) kind of driving, it’s the better compromise.
Just a final thought on the drive modes because every company drives me insane which little tiny differences in them: when you have a performance car, don’t you drive it all the time in one of the “performance” modes ? When was the last time an M4 got driven in Eco Mode ? Just refer to them to “damping modes” and make them available to car equipped with electrically adjustable dampers.

Rented one last week and I thought it was brilliant. Much. much better than the Model 3. Nothing like a Volvo. I tried an XC40 recharge previoualy and it was rubbish.Polestar 2 superb, with many elements that just work for the comfort and pleasure of the driver. Very fast charging, nice ride, lovely space to be in, easy opening of boot with your foot, revolutionary idea of a speedo and map in front of you. Top down view when manoeuvring in tight spaces., Cnservativce estimates of battery charge at destination. Just works, and really well

Test drove one of these (non-BST) a few months ago, and you quickly realize that this is a retrofitted XC40 with a battery and electric motors. No space in the back, leftover center bar down the middle of the floor, etc. Have high hopes for the Polestar 3 which seems to be an EV from the ground up, but I'm very happy I went with an Ioniq 5 over this

Great video, I think it’s funny that them targeting handling on the performance version is considered quirky lol

I bought a PS2 a year ago because the others you mention weren't available (at least not easily) in Australia at the time. But I love it, despite the flaws.

best part, you can get a 3-4 year old second hand polestar 2 dual moter long range with like 45K miles for about 30~35K USD.
Which makes it a pretty damm good car

I couldn't hear any background noise while you were shotting, so your camera did a great job with that. It was slow to change focus at times and was a little shaky at times, so not as smooth on stabilization. It was still a great video. I appreciate you being honest about the car even though they lent that to you to promote it in their favor.

2:47 I thought Marques shot all the Auto Focus videos exclusively on mobiles.
Is that a proper DSLR camera or has he just attached a mic to reduce wind noise?
