    Phra Dan (Bhante Dhammarakkhita, Bhikkhu) is a Theravada Buddhist Monk who lived in India from 2020, Thailand and now Sri Lanka. Born in Sussex, England in 1967. Educated by French Catholic Monks. A successful businessman in Estate Agency and Financial Services during the 1980's and 90's. Married, now divorced with 3 adult sons. 2000 marked change and travel including South Africa returning to the UK in 2003 to continue different work and business activities until 2012. Gradually materialistic values turned to renunciation, simplicity and meditation, living nomadically in an old Ford Transit van full time for 3 years. Van life and meditation led to Buddhism and a Thai Forest Tradition, Theravada Buddhist Monastery in the UK. During 2015 travelling the Buddhist Holy Sites of India, deep faith reinforced desire for Ordination. In 2020 after 5 years of intensive meditation practice between Thai Forest Monasteries in Thailand and England he was Ordained in India where he lived for 3 years until returning to Thailand in 2023 and now Sri Lanka.

    We are eternally greatful for the akashic Library of Theravada Buddhism. Keeping the core clean. So that I can have a little fun tailoring it to myself.

    Is wisdom a kind of intuitive grasping, like an”ahah” moment where the lightbulb of the mind flashes on?
    And what if that lightbulb stays on and shines on the ignorance? Is that the kind of wisdom one should want?

    Thank you Bhante 🙏😊. You mention in this talk that if you start practicing Buddhism later in life you may have certain ideas, emotions, views that are very set in our ways, I'm just realizing this as someone who has just started at 42. What can we do to work through those feelings/ideas that feel very permanent? Is it possible to break those patterns? Thank you 😊🙏

    Thank you Bhante. You have given me two nicknames. Oh no a million questions and oh no another long comment. I like the nickname a million questions. thank you for that.

      So yes we call wisdom consciousness. You wake up and you are consciousness and consciousness is just an awareness. The only thing that irks me is you keep saying Christians pray to god and ask for things. This is true, Im sure there are lay Buddhist people that pay lip service also.The Protestants declared god dead in 1965 meaning there is no longer a god to pray to but a consciousness within us that holds the truth. Christ taught that over and over.he stated This is error, it can only be resolved within consciousness he said it again and again. So there are Christians that pretty much follow what the Buddha taught the only difference is a name. I have been here about a year and so far I see very little difference in practise. Just different words.

    Mindfulness is a kind of detachment from external or internal phenomena, but is absorption in samadhi a detachment or as the term absorption might suggest a complete losing of detachment into whatever is the object of absorption?
    When I think of being absorbed for example into a book, I completely forget my surroundings etc and my entire surrounding narrative of self becomes taken up by the context of the book.
    Is this similar for samadhi?

    Is it impossible for a true Arhant to enjoy worldly luxuries and sensual pleasures? I ask since people like Eckhart Tolle and Stephen Gray (Adyashanti) do not strictly follow the precepts and have supposedly attained enlightenment regardless.

    • @randoms899
      @randoms899 Месяц назад

      Okay so from what I understand from the Dhamma the act of enjoying the sensual pleasures is a cause which will cause an effect which is part of 12 links of dependent origination keeping you binded to being. There’s a very good sutta called the shorter course on the mass of suffering. Please check it out 😎
