Phra Dan (Bhante Dhammarakkhita, Bhikkhu) is a Theravada Buddhist Monk who lived in India from 2020, Thailand and now Sri Lanka. Born in Sussex, England in 1967. Educated by French Catholic Monks. A successful businessman in Estate Agency and Financial Services during the 1980's and 90's. Married, now divorced with 3 adult sons. 2000 marked change and travel including South Africa returning to the UK in 2003 to continue different work and business activities until 2012. Gradually materialistic values turned to renunciation, simplicity and meditation, living nomadically in an old Ford Transit van full time for 3 years. Van life and meditation led to Buddhism and a Thai Forest Tradition, Theravada Buddhist Monastery in the UK. During 2015 travelling the Buddhist Holy Sites of India, deep faith reinforced desire for Ordination. In 2020 after 5 years of intensive meditation practice between Thai Forest Monasteries in Thailand and England he was Ordained in India where he lived for 3 years until returning to Thailand in 2023 and now Sri Lanka.

I found this very helpful, would love to see more of these talks on how to get meditation right. Spontaneous talks like these are what helps me get it right the most, I think maybe there's a certain quality to it that can only be conveyed through spontaneous talking.

To live life with some empowerment tools so I suffer less .enlightenment and such is beyond my understanding so I don’t consider it a goal

Im just starting to learn of your way of life, and im interested in it. I have meditated for a few years and gotten good results. Buddhism is new to me, as im really keen on diving deep and learn more i find it overwhelming knowing where to begin. Sooooo many books, suttas, authors, teravada this mahayana that and zen this and so on. Which is great, choice is good. Normally, but choices for me makes things complicated, i prefer more simple learning, core messages if you will.
I much prefer to just meditate, less reading more non-doing. But i need some knowledge for i realise its good for my effort for liberation.
    So i have two questions,
1: where do i begin ? Who and what to read
2: why is there so much different approaches and variations?
Love your work, Thank you from Sweden ❤

Thank you Bhante, very succinct and to the point.
It’s about who or what we are, our identity, and not the coverings, not the thoughts, not the body, etc.
I have found that by knowing what I am not, what I am becomes apparent but haven’t had complete unobstructed knowing. Like looking at the moon during a solar eclipse, you see the suns halo, we know what we are by knowing that we aren’t whatever we see, whatever is known.
Yet there is a knowing of no thing which cannot be grasped by the mind.
So much can be said of it yet nothing at all of substance, I’ll take yours and the buddhas advice to see it for myself.

when meditating, ive seen some pretty WILD "visions" or "intuition", i dunno what it is.
for example, i saw the origins of some of the religions on this earth in this current contemporary reality, so... give or take 8000 years.
i wasnt really thinking much or whatever, the visions just UNFOLDED instantly.
now, i KNOW i have a VERY imaginative investigative mind....
the question is, how do i know if these werent just delusions and the results of an over-active, and over-capable, mind?

ive also "met" a couple of versions of Buddha (yup gautama), and had interactions. and two paccekabuddhas that was made of, well, not flesh. (not formless either.) not even in this dimension.
how do i know these werent delusions?

oh and i also saw this deep-green jade/ malachite tunnel. in the middle of space.
at the end of this tunnel which looked like a universe away, were three stars.
i started following the jade tunnel.
      it took intense concentration.
but halfway i thought, "wait a minute, i dunno wtf im doing, im not even a samanera. i better stop."
and i instantly stopped in the middle of the tunnel.
and then the tunnel slowly dissipated away.
      what was that?!?
