I have loved this lady since the first time I saw her in the mid 70's. I had gone to see Supertramp, and, unaware at the time, she was opening for them. As much as I like Supertramp, Joan stole the show for me. Guitar wise i love how she plays, from melodic, soulful stuff, to aggressive blues stuff too. She's pretty damn good on piano too. I also love her vocal style too. It's not your standard and, at times is like a deep voiced Joni Mitchell. She was relatively big here in the late 70's/80's with many hit singles, Me Myself I and Love and Affection being 2 of the biggest. She enjoyed Album success and a whole list of awards, including 3 grammy's. She's still around today and playing and recording. She's also extremely private and gives nothing much away about her private life. Enjoyed hearing this again. Good reaction guys and a great pick Chuck👏
Cheers Paul! Sounds like I first saw Joan right around the same time you did - mid 70s. And like you, I was blown away. Wish I had gone to see her more than just once. Glad to hear she's still performing. Very talented lady!
Saw Joan twice Live back in the 70's and 80's - still one of my favorite artists all time. Down to Zero and the self-titled album it is on will always be in my top 5 albums all time
you have some cool tracks ahead of you with Joan Armatrading , here most famous hit was a track called Love and Affection . her music is quite genre neutral . some good tracks by her … Show Some Emotion ….Down to Zero…I'm Lucky…Barefoot and Pregnant ……Bottom to the Top. i could go on ! all my best to you and yours from Liverpool
She was not only this time at a Rockpalast show but also in one of the legendary Rockpalast nights in 1980. Wonderful concert that I still watch from time to time.ruclips.net/video/AWHRk14NqSI/видео.html
Thanks SAD! To answer a couple of your questions ... No tragic story to report. Joan's still alive and kicking and performing. She's probably in her 70s by now. Been doing her thing for 50 years! And yes, she uses a backing band but, as you can see, she does a fine job soloing. First heard of her back in the mid-70s. Some of the DJs on my local FM station were playing stuff from her "Back to the Night" album. She became pretty popular here in the DC area. Saw her live one time and it was great. Love that she has unique styles across the spectrum - vocals, guitar playing, lyrics, rhythms, and melody. Very creative lady. My top 3 from her are "Back to the Night", "Down to Zero", and "Willow". Enjoyed your reaction!
This woman is a supreme songwriter/singer/guitarist....steppin out by Sifa was Joe Jackson....This woman had a series of succesful albums and then her handlers wanted a more rock rather then a folksy accoustic act....that bought an album with songs like ''drop the pilot''and other charting single releases but she had lost that beautiful organic sound we see in this song selection today....I beg you for your own welth to go enter and gather her musical perfection....good voice-distinct...great guitar player and songs are second to none.
The big change in this great artist story was pressure to get a more edgy sound(rock)although her sound was electric with acoustic guitar amplified ,she lost some of her early fans but broke through with some big hits..I didn't like the new sound but it prospered....Her sound before her rock change was jazz influence players with a live reputation of delivering great reproductions of the albums she was selling.
The great Joan Armatrading is still making great music. She's wrote great songs and played with awesome musicians since the early 1970s.
Ms Armatrding is an icon in the UK and deservedly so. She is equally at home in a band setting or solo.
Nice to see some love for Ms. Armatrading. It's been a long, long time since "Drop the Pilot" and "Love And Affection" were on the radio.
Massive, underappreciated talent.

I saw her live about 9 years ago and she was fabulous.

Thanks so much for the info Chuck! This was really great!
She is a great player. Try her "Love and Affection" studio versio.
She is still making music. I rate her right up there with Joni Mitchell and Carole King.

Yes, she's amazing, but we were joking in the beginning of the video Mike☺️
From around the same year, also Brit: Joe Jackson - Steppin' Out: ruclips.net/video/PJwt2dxx9yg/видео.html
Peace, love and bellbottoms from Canada.

Beautiful 🙏
Very cool.
So 1979...it ain't the Joe Jackson tune.
Some wicked solo acoustic playing.
Love Joan. ❤️ 😊🤙🏼🎶❤️✨️🕊
