This is super dumb, but I hate it when a story has jaw-dropping art... but the story is just an incoherent mess. Another pet peeve of mine would have to be when there's barely any actual backgrounds(not just gradients or whatever). It just makes it harder to get immersed in the story, and like I get that bg are hard for a lot of people, you aren't going to get better at drawing bg if you never draw them(Wonderful video btw)
It’s not about “getting better to draw backgrounds” it’s about being time efficient and knowing you’ll save yourself hours if you keep them to a minimum. You have to color and shade too, it’s not manga. More time
My pet peeves 1. "Meg character". The character that are created just to be hated. But it's not because the author did a good job or they deserve it but because they are just suck at writting human with human flaws. it even worst when the creator make the good character have this unrealistic perfect skin beauty while these character have things that are be normal in real life like frecles, body fat and messy hair. 2."Sakura character" Basically female character that are "confirm" to be strong. We have other character telling us stuff like "oh she's the queen she is powerful bla bla bla." but the author just never let them shine hell even needing to be safe over and over again because IDK mysoginy maybe ? They never really stated that.
My story telling pet peeve is when the timeline randomly changes like, we started off in a medieval city now were in a futuristic city. Also when the character who's supposed to drive the story is bland, they're generally trying to stop a villain but have no reason too, like why'd this person become a villain? what'd they do and why are we trying to stop them?
For me its the MC or 'good guy' winning simply because they wanted to, have friends, etc. 'Will power' trumps all, 'friendship' trumps all. Doesn't matter if the VILLAIN really wants to win or has friends, they don't count. Doesn't matter if the villain is stronger than all the good guys combined; twinkyMcTwinkington will have an inner monologue about how cool friends are then 1 shot the bad guy despite otherwise being far too weak to do that
My pet peeves: Most of the romance webtoons kind of feel same because of the story-line and similar characters. Like its always either a toxic(bad? cheater) bf/gf or the fl/ml is single as hell, and there are always the same tropes. And the villain is always that one jealous or over-obsessive girl. I wanna find some romances that are heartwarming and positive, but those are rare to find.
@@artsy...1846 I have read amid the changing seasons and its just... Wow. Like the characters, the art, metaphors, symbolism, everything just screams masterpiece. It's so real and so beautiful. I really love it!
1:27 Whenever i make OC, i try to format it like this: Title Design Little bio in form of list Relationship with other Title is character's name, of course. Design, obviously. Little bio in form of list is not 'like: dislike: personality: etc', but it's more like 'rarely talks, but will talk endlessly when it's about bugs' or 'after retiring, he opens a reparation centre'. It saves time, and feels more accurate rather than telling it explicitly. Some personality is hard to be described by words, so i just go with the life experiences or action. Relationship with others would support the bio. Idk if this is good or bad, but this is what i feel comfortable the most.
I hate Romance webtoons where the main female lead is pretty and dumb like in Potion Witch and I am the Villain. I dropped both after reading less than 5 chapters. I also hate webtoons that drag the story by adding unnecessary drama by using the stupidest Soap Opera plotlines. And I've gotten plenty tired with the Dungeon thing in avtion Webtoons. The idea of a status window irks me to no end
what i hate is when a webcomic has the absolute most fleshed out, detailed, finished storyline and the character just a bunch of idiots that have no personality while the story is acting like they mean something
New to this channel but excited to see the other videos. I been meaning to try my hand at making webcomics but I am uncertain my art or story would even be nice enough to keep people's attention. Thanks for this video! On that note, my one pet peeve in story telling is with stories that don't have anything to do with romance suddenly drop the plot for it. It feels like the author will forget the story and other things more important to do fanservice. Another one of mine is how every current gf/bf of the fl/ml or romantic interest is an asshole just to justify why they fall for someone else. Not everyone has a good reason for breaking up and our mc's shouldn't be excluded from this fact. Some people just lose interest and some just plain don't enjoy the people they are with anymore. I wanna read a story where the ex isn't a super villain hellbent on ruining someone's life because they are jealous. I wanna read a story where the ex is actually a genuinely decent person or at least normal and not psychotic.
In a lot of romance webtoons (but this is the most common with the ones that have royalty and arent modern age) Every male love interest has either black or white hair and red or blue eyes. Sometimes they will have gold or black eyes but rarely. Also, don't even get me started on when the main protagonists have kids! It's always a child with heterochromia, that has one of each of its parent's eyes. Or they just have two kids and the boy has the same personality as the mom and the girl has the same personality as the dad. (oh and the one with the parent's personality looks identical to that parent) Also rarely is the love interest anything lower than a duke (basically it's either a prince, straight-up emperor, or a duke) And yeah most main characters are girls Edit: Most girl characters are blonde or have pink hair
omg yes! or the kids have the hair colour from one parent and the eye colour of another. That's not how genes work!! The siblings should also look similar, but not like inverse colour clones 💀
My pet peeve is when a story has the main character usually the isekai girl "do no wrong". To explain further the MC does bad or stupid shit and the story condones it on a good day but glorifies it on a bad day that way and any criticism or opposition that comes her way is either "evil" or "stupid". The difference between the two traits is barely any just that if its "stupid" there is a higher chance for the character to be redeemed but if the "stupid" is a girl than the chances are doubled. Examples being- MC: Classism is wrong and everyone should be equal. Evil: No you can't do that. MC: Why? Evil:Because I want to keep my money, power and status Strong handsome man(evil may or may not be in love with: MC is right you're wrong and stupid and going to jail for 10000 years. Another is SA and sexism is usually used as a plot device (and usually the guy doing the SA and sexism is fat and ugly which is some pretty privliege and fatphobia). MC doesn't find guy hot so he saves/rescues her from sexism and SA resulting in her finding him attractive or giving him a chance. Not to mention just walking away like nothing happened when depicting the SA. Trauma and abuse does not make jerk characters likable istg. This is usually used with Male love interests less frequently with female main characters (this is to make her edgy and cool). The worst example that I saw in a real manhwa had this man hate our MC despite working her but off to help him with his work and fulfil her role as an empress only to get thrown aside for a saintess who became empress so she had to become basically a harem maiden to still do her job and train the saintess for hers. She was bitter and still in love with the emperor. The saintess is now pregnant. MC (now she will be called queen) gets into an argument with him and they hate boink. She gets pregnant and her father who she thought didn't care about her because he was always working comes to her and promises to protect her and asks her to take care of herself. This makes her believe that she'll get closer to her father in the future and have support when she has her child. The saintess gets attacked while on a carriage ride and miscarries. Emperor blames Queen's father and executes him. Queen finds out and has a miscarriage as well. She tries to stab him and gets executed by him. she then goes back in time. This happened in the first 3-5 chapters. Do you want to know why the emperor was such a POS? because he was jealous and mad at MC because his father was more proud of her than him as she worked harder than him and branched out into further fields than him but that's not all his mother is dead so before MC was born his only maternal figure was MC's mom as she was his psuedo-nanny so when MC was born and her mother paid more attention to her and spent more time with her than him (her own baby daughter) he got upset and when she died of sickness while MC was still a toddler he blamed MC for it and resented her for it. This sucks because at the end of the story she gets with him in the end despite there being other love interests a smart studious green haired psuedo yandere and a chill red haired guy who was kind of bland. She tries to avoid marrying him but they do the whole "but there's an irresistible pull" and "but I love him and I can't stop it nor explain it". only.tappytoon.com/u49lph Oh and let's not forget it's fine for the female character to do SA and be a perv but if a guy does it that's bad empress's jewels like in the story there's a guy who does literally the exact same stuff she does but genderswapped and he's the bad guy. This was genderswapped in only one stroy and that is the seven deadly sins anime where all the guys were either pedos, sex offender (one good guy briainwashed a girl into being in love with him and leaving her kid brother behind all to R-word her into boinking him) and or with 1000 year old lolis but when a girl is doing it it's bad like in the sequel series a grown woman wants to get with the main character son and she is the big bad villain of the series despite the amin character having known his wife when he was an adult and she was a baby that he practically raised. These suck and I'd rather die than read through them again.

I don't have anyone close to me to ask, so I'm gonna ask you. I have a basic idea for a romance webtoon, and I don't have a "conflict causing" character. The main conflicts are the characters' doubts and real-life issues that people go through daily, which drives them apart, etc. Should I explicitly make a "conflict causing" character or is it good as is? I want my comic to stick to people, but I don't want it to be too boring.
you definitely dont always need to have "the conflict character", we usually create conflict characters for protagonists that do not have conflict with the person they like and vice versa, having personal goals and life conflict is good enough as long as there is a challenge for the protagonist to grow to be someone better
I'm a bit late, but wanted to just clarify something that I hope can help: the key word is not "conflict character", but just "conflict" in a story. The main character "conflict" can be other character, a situation, an environment, or even themselves. Wanted to clarify because today everyone unfortunately think that a "conflict" of a story NEEDS to be a villain, or that can only exists one conflict. I suggest you research a little about script writing. Helps A LOT the understand stories and what make they work or not. Oh, and your story sounds like a breath of fresh air!! I would love to read it in the future! 😊💙
@MidoriKyun Thank you so much! My comic is still under development, and I'll take all of that into consideration. I've been doing piles of research lol!
My pet peeves: 1) bad art, idk, sometimes the art is sooo bad it makes me uncomfortable and i just end up dropping it 2) short chapters, i get it, they dont have time, but, i have seen chapters with 3 panels each, it makes it imposible to feel the comic (if that makes sense) 3) too much text in the same place, i just dont like it 4) too much information at the same time, i dnt understand whats happening because i cant process the information 5) bad translating, i droped some mangas/webtoons because they translated it with google, put it without reading it, and at the end, it doesnt make sense 6) no background, it makes it dificult to situate me 7) getting all they want without trying because they are the MC, or wining everytime, after some chapters you arent hyped anymore because you know they are always going to win
When it comes to story telling i just kind of hate the setting of "real world but with game elements", at least when its not utilized to its full potential the comic/manhwa/manga/whatever will just have like some skills and an inventory system maybe, without going any deeper, even though the whole premise, including the title of the series, revolves around everything being part of a game Also when the protagonist is perfect in virtually any way that matters, they're strong, skilled, smart, hot, they never fail in a way that has serious consequences, yada yada yada. i dont mind it that much when some of those things are more of a joke, but when the story is mostly serious and ESPECIALLY when the character didnt really work towards this or do anything to deserve like a special bonus its just kinda lame Also also i kinda hate the "clueless guy" bit where every female character is dropping their panties as soon as they see them (which is part of my earlier criticism), but then the guy is just DUHHHHH whats happening? what was that all about, amiright? Also also also, when characters say things for the audience, like when they retell the events or explain the entire backstory, but they're either talking to themselves or to a character who knows all this already. like if anyone has seen Shaman King, when Anna shows up and explains her whole backstory to Yoh who already knows it perfectly well despite an audience insert character being right there Also also also also, i hate it when every time a new group of characters show up, at least one of them is related to a character that was shown before (doesnt matter if its family, friends, lovers, students, rivals, neighbours, whatever). like yes, that might create some drama but not only does it get repetitive (seriously why cant it be just a bunch of random people), a lot of the time these mfs have never been mentioned before
Not all RPG games are that deep with world functionality or complicated magic systems and several job classes. Look at the Fable series, especially 3, you and a few hobbers are the main magic users, and they're like one of four field monsters and one of two with a high chance of popping up anywhere. Besides, it's way easier to over do it, than keep it simple.
