@@lucidfangirl1030 To make someone feel like they're a baby and completely incompetent when they really aren't seems like a type of emotional or psychological abuse. This is actually a really interesting idea, and I've seen a few random posts on reddit from people who grew up with a parent who treated them this way. There may not be a lot of resources for this specific idea, but you can always look into the effects of helicopter parenting and other overly controlling and often abusive parenting styles to get an idea of what someone's life would be like when it's taken to the next level as your idea does.

    My biggest pet peeves are:
    - When the character had a past life but that literally doesn’t matter and it doesn’t effect the storyline at all. Doctor Elise for example was amazing and it had the MC use their knowledge from modern life to help people and the story spun with that. Otherwise, it’s just… so useless and I don’t see the point of having your character’s past life not matter. If you scratch the part where they “died in their past life and was reborn in a new world” nothing will change.
    - when the MC is too.. OP and Mary/Gary Suish-it’s just so annoying to read and it kills me. I’m looking at “The Lady Wants to Rest” especially…
    - when everyone is so dumbed down just to make the main characters shine (not a webcomic but I’m looking at Death Note.. amazing story and all but it was just so annoying how the whole cast was so dumbed down just to Light could shine. I mean.. seriously?)
Just a random list of mine, I could care less if the art is bad or if the grammar is meh.

    • @yuuning

i agree with what you said except the one with death note, character wise in death note, i don't think they were dumbed down, L as a detective is quite incredible, being that he also has his little quirks doesn't make him dumb but rather interesting, Misa although not as smart compared to most characters, is quite an ambitious/driven character, Light is a very strategic character and he doesn't half ass at all, but just having this self illusion of being a god, makes him less smart of a person imo

The biggest problem I have with comics is the ghastly, unsubtle use of abuse main characters go through as a means of currying pity in the reader. This is a nitpick since it has nothing to do with the story of these comics
But personally I don't get why a lot of manhwa/webtoon titles have to be super transparent
Stuff like "I got pregnant with the Tyrant's child" and "I am the older sister of the possessed female lead" are what weird me out the most
I get that there's a language barrier that causes these titles to look off-putting, but still

    • @gezz555
      @gezz555 2 года назад +88

If they're from novels, it usually has long titles to attract readers. Manhwa/ manga just copy the title from the novel. Usually, when the manhwa officially translated to English, they slightly change the title. Example :- "I Become the Wife of the Male Lead" was change into "Author of My Own Destiny" in official translation.

    • @kn-jt9dj
      @kn-jt9dj 2 года назад +29

      Understandable
I get that they're trying to bring in viewers with titles, but personally, wouldn't it be better to draw them in by advertising the comic's premise instead (beyond the basic synopsis like the MC marrying someone/getting reincarnated)
"I married the male lead" or "I reincarnated into a princess/person in high society" titles are honestly kind of dime a dozen at this point, and the comics usually try to make you care about the characters surrounding the MC's
Maybe that's just a western viewpoint tho, I see why they'd try to be as eye catching as possible when it comes to titles

    • @arnies6253
      @arnies6253 2 года назад +73

Actually, it happens because the market is saturated. Some mangaka said that because there was so much mangas, when at the book library in front of the whole bunch of mangas, you wouldn't take the time to read each and every synopsis so the title basically became the way to convey what the manga is about.

what i hate about your first point, is when the mc is a badass anti hero kinda chara, who hates humans and is just living their own life, being cool and edgy, and then some bitch appears and suddenly this very traumatized broken chara, filled with hate, who was actually cool tho, becomes a weak and extremely out of character kinda guy, that is just so incredibly unrealistic, but for some reason part of their original edgy personality is still there, just they r now WAY weaker than before and basically just a clown at this point. like shield hero or arifureta or that one villager guy that build a harem by dying a lot. those guys were actually interesting and it would make the story much better if theyd just stick with their actual personality and not just change to be a "POS, but if a girl is involved nice guy" kinda persone, just for the sake of fanservice and a goddamn harem.

    2. When the MC immediately forgives everything they were upset about bc of some stupid reason. Why don’t they let people just be rightfully angry until the other person actually apologizes? I just end up feeling even more mad for something awful the other person did that immediately gets forgiven. It’s not that simple.

I see many people commenting this and can relate, but it’s a large pet peeve of mine when a formerly adult/matured character reverts to a child with their personality and knowledge. It’s certainly fine if it’s their personality to be a brat, mischievous, and so on as that’s normal, but I find it strange that they retain their memories yet act exactly like their toddler age once they’ve migrated to a new life.

One pet peeve I have, particularly in webtoons, is when the mc grew up in an abusive household, and suddenly, through some sort of contrived reason, gets adopted by their “real” family, or a different family that treats them way better. That’s not the problem I have though, I think it’s a good thing they get to leave that dog shit lifestyle, but after that only good things happen. Literally. Everyone loves to gush about how “adorable” the mc is, example “she’s so shy and cute!” “Her eyes are so big and her face is so small!” “This child is so lovable!” , there is no conflict with the family even in joking ways or fun sibling rivalry, it’s just perfect family 24/7, mc is saved by family *gasp* nothing else happens it’s just pure… unrealisticness. And she saves the bad boy Prince by being kind or being “different”, her older brother cares so much for her he is willing to die for her and he never teases her I don’t even care. It’s so fucking boring.

from the top of my head, my pet peeves are:
    - Characters that don't act or look their age
    - petty drama caused by miscommunications: ik these happen irl but i personally never enjoy stories that are rooted in miscommunication, I mean probably if it's done right but they rarely do and reading it just makes me think what's even the point.
    - misogynistic male lead that we're supposed to find attractive
    - mean girls bullies: I just think this is lazy conflict writing and so overdone
    - doormat main character that's way too idealistic: again, overdone and kind of setting a harmful example for susceptible children (?) im so tired of them making excuses for their abusers be it friends or love interests, and said people just get no consequences for their actions bc the mc "forgives them". You can make kind and empathetic main characters without having them being a literal pushovers, amazing examples of what I meant are good kind mcs are Mitsumi from Skip and Loafer, Mi-ae from Afterschool Lessons for Unripe Apples
    - Questionable logistics?: idk how to explain this but the lack of realism and logic in some of these stories. I don't mean it like fantasy or anything but like how someone, like say a supernatural being who came out out of nowhere, with no birth certificate or citizenship can just enrol in a random school and whatnot and nobody questions it? At least zero explanation on why it's even possible in the first place? Just seems lazy to me and such a turn-off.
    - why does it everything needs to be in high/middle school??: can we get more stories set in uni? or if they're high school age, you can still make stories outside of school yk?? like idk... in their neighbourhood? or their job? a community?
    - grooming being romanticized: yk what i mean...
    - stiff pretty artstyle: Semi realist artstyle that looks good as a regular illustration but just didn't work as much in webcomics... and thus also suffers from having stiff and samey faces and expressions problem. So far the artist that can nail this artstyle in webcomics imo is the artist for Winter Wood and Mystical, VAN.J but that's about it...
    - LOVE TRIANGLES: I hate it so much it's so overdone. I just ended up rooting for no one and wish the MC to stay single because either the MC being wishy-washy and just stringing along two people, or the other "love interest" that just wouldn't take no as an answer and being a fucking creep. I'm tired of female protagonists stuck in a love triangle between two men and those said men are lowkey fighting over her even though they spend more time butting heads instead of spending actual time with her and helping her with whatever the story is about (don't get me started with the blatant sexism that happens sometimes since these men don't even let the protagonist take care of herself for once rather than babying her). This description is so generic because it's essentially the plot of so many webcomics I've read for a long time, to the point that I actually forgot their names due to how they mixed together in my memories.
Also there's one other pet peeve I have, and it's for basically any literature or webcomic: the isekai genre. I'm talking harem, OP-since-day-1, ladykiller/mankiller, oneshotting-dragons senorita perfecta isekai protagonists. I'm already tired from anime overusing this trope with every shounen boy in an isekai world always being something like this, so I'm just plainly bored when webtoons do this too. Then there's the absurd title of "I became X after colliding into Y and reincarnating into the world of Z" format. It's literally become a meme now.

I agree too. I like fantasy and romance but how it's done currently is horrible. It's really difficult to find a good fantasy romance, even though there's so many stories now in that genre.
My favorite type of female protagonist is when she knows who she likes. I didn't even realize this until after reading so many of these stories and finding that I didn't like any of the romance--that it was just okay. There were only a few romances that I really liked and I finally realized they were all ones where the protagonist knew who they liked.
I'm okay with the protagonist knowing who they like and either A) Being open about it and going for it or B) Being shy and hiding it until they're ready to confess.
But, I just really can't relate to protagonists who cannot decide who they like. I know I'm probably in the rarity there, but that is the truth and I have been that way since I picked up comics, it's not something I have changed my feelings on.
I just find protagonists who cannot decide to be a bit boring. I guess, I just don't see how it's possible to not know who you prefer--unless you don't have any goals or interests of your own. Because for example, if you're someone who loves nerdy things and you have the choice between a guy who shares those interests or not, obviously the guy who shares your interests would be preferable.
It's things like that. Not knowing what you want to do in life, not knowing what you even like...I just think if you have literally no clue then you're not mature enough to even be in a relationship. Obviously you need to spend time on yourself and figuring out what you want in life before dating if you cannot even decide who you like.

    • @narnia1233
      @narnia1233 2 года назад +1

But, I've found some comics--that granted aren't perfect, but I can actually enjoy them because the main character knows who she likes.
Honestly I'm even okay with the protagonist liking someone but getting rejected. Tragic romance is seriously some of the best romances. And then if the protagonist later meets someone who she falls in love with and loves her back--it's so great. It fills me up with all the lovey dovey feelings. 😆 (Note: But, not a love triangle. I mean when the protagonist really gets rejected and really meets someone new. Not something where two guys are there and she just goes with the second guy but then the first guy also gets interested--ugh. I don't like that.)
But, I respect a protagonist who knows who they like. Personally, I don't really respect a protagonist that doesn't know.
And again, I know I'm probably in the minority there--but that's the truth.

My art pet peeve is jarring background elements. Like of course artists use 3D and other things, but I get distracted when there are background models with clashing art styles and nothing done to disguise that. I've also seen stuff like barely-blurred stock photos being used as backgrounds against manga-style characters, which was really offputting.
I've also got a writing pet peeve, which is overly mature children. I've read way too many "reincarnated/transmigrated into a kid" stories with this. The MC is an adult in a kid's body, but is less mature than the actual 6-10 year olds, who talk and think like college graduates. The kids are also treated like adults by everyone else so...why not just write a story with adults/older teens? Would also get rid of the weird thing where the story tries to make a elementary schooler seem like a suave romantic interest.

"Adult in a kids body' is a situation that *can* actually be interesting, but only if it's done right and not like what's being described in this comment
Not a webcomic but i read a fanfiction where the MC of the media it was about time-travels in an attempt to stop all the horrible things that happen in the future, but when they go back they end up being in a body the age they would've been at the time, 8 years old
It's got an interesting situation where they still think and rationalize like an adult, but they're forced to do so in a mind that isn't ready for those thought processes and the trauma they've been through. They also pretty much end up getting immediately adopted by one of the people they're trying to save, and it's actually kind of adorable but also sad as they try to stay rational and just focus on saving them, but also can't help but love finally being cared for for once.
Bonus points is it happens to actually be written from the perspective of the one who immediately goes 'yeah ur home life sucks you're *my* kid now', who has absolutely no idea about the time travel thing and just thinks they're a really weird possibly-eldritch-monster kid
So, it can be done in a way that I at least think is really cool and interesting, but definitely not with the things mentioned in the comment. I've seen those types of stories too, and I hate them

I’m so glad it’s not just me. The worst to me is harem, but honestly I can’t stand love triangles either. Harem has always been bad. Love triangles I think I also personally never liked them but I tolerated them however now that I’ve read so many romance stories and I’m really tired of tolerating them, I basically just toss the story away if it has a love triangle. Because it always devolves into pettiness and all the characters lose at least 50 IQ points as it drags on. 😆
To be honest I actually do love romance stories and when I started reading comics I would read everything. I think I didn’t even understand why I didn’t like some characters, but I eventually realized that I just personally don’t like characters who cannot make a decision and seem to have no preference or even in my opinion are lacking a bit in morals because they keep their love interests in their back pocket forever.
I can’t relate to that. And I just don’t like people who are that way. I think they’re bland, boring themselves if they literally don’t have a preference. And if they can’t decide then I think that means they’re not mature enough to even be in a relationship. Basically that they should reject everyone and focus instead on figuring out what their interests are and what they want in life instead of love.
The romance stories that I like are when the protagonist knows who they like and just go for it. Or they hide their feelings because they are afraid. I like either of those types of protagonists. Because these protagonists they always have a preference and usually they admire someone because they know the other person really well and they’ve fallen in love with the person.
It’s so much better than the protagonist being clueless and not knowing who she likes.
To be honest I’d even be completely okay with a protagonist who loves someone but gets rejected. And then falls in love with someone else. Basically I’m okay with the protagonist being wrong about someone or not being loved back. Because I just respect a character that has genuine feelings and genuine interests.
I don’t like protagonists that don’t have any interests (doesn’t have any hobbies, doesn’t have any idea of the type of life she wants, etc.) and therefore will just latch on to whatever the guy of the week likes. Etc.

I think the use of describing-word-affects like "open" for opening a door has a lot to do with the artist's struggling to portray movements.
I know I tend to imagine my story more like an animation than a comic at times, so a certain frame or scene might be reliant on a dramatic turn of the head or swinging of a door... but it is difficult to capture that moment in still life.
Also, it could come from an insecurity that the art doesn't properly convey what's happening and the artist feels the need (or has the need) to clarify what is happening.
Basically, the old adage "Show Don't Tell" is still relevant in illustration.
For whoever reads this... Good luck on all of your projects! :3

My biggest pet peeve is when a character has depression or some trauma from their childhood to make us feel bad for them and "relate", but then the character is all fine. Or they show the depression/trauma in extremely surface level ways to make us empathetic and also sometimes romantasises the mental illness, but then ignores the actual depth of having such mental illness including the not so aesthetically pleasing stuff.

The cultivation regression stories, or op protagonist stories, are literally all the same, LITERALLY, I have struggled through getting through the first chapters since they all repeat themselves.
When a character in a romance story, specifically the female one, does every trope of getting in a vulnerable position, just so some random male character can come out of the mountains to save her, it's already so annoying and unrealistic to begin with, but it gets worse when they do it every chapter, most people have a sense of awareness, and not every female is a clumsy robot who doesn't know how environmental awareness works, you learn that literally when you're a year old.
Another I really don't like is when they make a female character evil/mean/a total witch, just to make the protagonist look nice. Or they give her an extremely cruel family, that hates her for literally no reason (step-child, adopted, illegitimate, female, breathes, exists, i dunno, etc...)
Lastly, probably one of the most annoying for everyone I think, the character wears glasses, or is chubby/fat, they get hated on by everyone, again for no reason, and then they disappear to lose weight and glasses, and come back looking like a basic girl, and suddenly she has a reverse-harem. (this one doesn't happen as often, because for some reason manga artists hate drawing glasses or big people)

Instantly a lot cuter and a better variety already. Or they’re BOTH the ‘shorter, less handsome, weaker’ types! They rely on eachother because they’re both not very conventional strong but both very kind people! Also a lot better.
And for yuri ones, can we PLEASE stop having a butch lesbian as one of them and have both girls give off mean girls vibes despite obviously not being mean girls? Seriously just by adding a little bit of twist makes a story break out of the stereotype already. It’s so easy, too, authors just need to actually try a little!

I think it's fine if you read BLs, but some "fujoshis" like to fetishize real people/couples and that is NOT okay. And I personally think the BL scene is improving--especially in manhwa. Many unique plots and dynamics are appearing and that's nice. But people fetishizing real people, making ships out of real people is disgusting, in my opinion. I feel like a lot of the webcomic pet peeves are also things that happen for just regular text stories. I don’t read many webseries/webcomics anymore (I used to read some really niche ones that have their own website and everything but not anymore) - I’m sort of a traditional book fellow, but I find myself agreeing with every pet peeve. As someone who wants to write myself, I try my best to avoid most of the pet peeves I find when I read a traditional book (I don’t read a lot of romance and to be frank I have no interest in writing it so I try to focus on plot, characterisation and worldbuilding, especially for science fiction). Some of them have their fixes, which I will list below, but for others it might just mean having to practise more and more and more! Writing and art is a skill and every method to make it more efficient will help. For example, I am an artist used to be very VERY bad at humans and could not draw them at all (I specialise in animals and often draw pet portraits for people), but after watching RUclips tutorials, following artists I love on Instagram (most of them are in the animation industry so they have loads of helpful anatomy and style tips) and after years of practise, I can confidently say they are better (mind you they’re not as good as my animals but definitely better). If you are willing to spare the money, look up online courses on Skillshare, Class 101 or Domestika. Some of these classes from professionals really helped me with my art but more often than not the free stuff is more than enough.
Alright, tips and tricks for other emerging authors and webcomic artists:
    1) For those whose English is not their first language - I feel you. It’s not mine either and to this day I slip up so many times. Grammar is hard! And most native speakers hate grammar too - my English teacher in university foundation is from Wales (which is in the UK) and he HATES grammar with a burning passion. I would suggest getting a beta reader or an editor. Doesn’t have to be anyone special, it could be a friend who is better at English or is a native English speaker. I beta read for my friend’s work (fully written, no images) and I find myself helping their grammar, sentence structures, spelling and even suggesting other vocabulary to help convey their context better, unless it is intentional. One of the characters in their work is the protagonist’s mother, who is a Chinese immigrant and speaks in broken English. As a result, I become a bit more lax when it comes to grammar for that specific character.
    2) VFX and SFX - I will not stress enough to use onomatopoeia (basically sounds) or make the verb interesting (I’ve seen a webcomic artist for a small one on Instagram use *sliiiide* as a crow pushes a coin as an offering to a tiny dragon to trade for bread). Really basic ones include CRACK, BOOM, THUD but if you want something really funky, make up your own. I romanise sound I hear everyday to see if I could put them in my work. For example, I often use *fwip* for swipes and swishes and *toktoktok* for knocking sounds. Get creative! And if English isn’t your native language, onomatopoeia from that might work well!
    3) Worldbuilding info dumps are necessary in books because we don’t have the visual media. It’s just words. But for comics and picture books, by all means SHOW IT OFF. I want to see architecture, races, climate instead of them being mentioned. I want to see bustling marketplaces brimming with culture and castles full of history. I want to see politicians making unjust laws or rebels rising up. Draw it out, show not tell. I cannot stress how much as a writer and an artist I would rather just plop an accompanying art piece I made for my work instead of having to write it down detail per detail, word per word.
    4) Writing trauma is difficult, yes, and having to write the five stages of grief will be hard, but do your research! I have mental health issues that could spiral me into bouts of insomnia, have zero motivation for things (including stuff I like like drawing, writing and gaming) and depressive episodes. I often think more than five times when writing characters who are undergoing trauma and grief. I had this story I wrote from two years ago involving an ensemble cast that learned of the sudden death of a mentor character. It was a pilot for a book but I soon scrapped the book because the story was half-baked but the pilot was well-received among my friends, family and teachers. It’s quiet among them and the atmosphere is tense. Two of them are seething in anger and guilt while the rest of them are wallowing in sorrow. A normally calm character flips the chessboard when they lost when they usually would congratulate the winner. A chatty character who often rambles about fun facts they found suddenly goes quiet. One of the characters decided to bury themselves in work and lash out at everyone who tries to reach out to them. While I am not entirely sure if these are accurate to everyone’s experiences but some of these are taken from how I deal with sudden change (I tend to lash out at people when the situation gets tense and heated). As always, having beta readers will help improve your writing on topics like these. They could give advice on how to handle things to make it more empathetic. Research, find anecdotes, find reputable sources and ask beta readers.
As for other tips, they’re pretty general. All I can say is study and practise. Find resources on anatomy, backgrounds and composition instead of relying on 3D models. Gather references (better yet - take your own), lots of them. Do your research. Read, read, READ - anything and everything that piques your interest. Try different genres that are adjacent to your favourite (for example: science fiction can be space stories, apocalypses or speculative evolution). Find real stories that can be an anchor point on writing heavy or difficult themes or character interactions (I find AskReddit threads useful but the credibility is ehh so take everything you find there with a hefty pinch of coarse sea salt). And practise, practise, PRACTISE! Simplify things into shapes and curves. Look up emotion charts and draw your characters to fit them. Make thumbnail sketches. Want to practise drawing hands? Look up models of hands on quickpose (or use your own hands even) and go scribble in a sketchbook. Make studies of animals, people, objects, poses, etc. Go to your local coffee shop and observe - write down the atmosphere and the things you can see, hear, smell, touch and taste. Write down how does your favourite song make you feel. Be descriptive - how can you describe a colour or a mood without using said colour or mood? And get feedback - show your editors and beta readers and listen to what they have to say. I know all of this is easier said than done but you will get to the point you are proud of your work. We are all learning to improve ourselves.
Phew, this is a long one! I would add my own pet peeves (like the good ol’ genre switch and bait - no, I don’t want to read a steamy romance in what I assumed was a high octane sci-fi thriller from your blurb) but this comment would be way too long. If there are other stuff I have missed or you think I got wrong, let me know! I’m always happy to hear from other writers and artists on what they think and get feedback! I don’t think I’ll work on a webcomic/comic of my own since I still need to improve my art and writing by a long shot (I’m actually slogging through writer’s block right now) but maybe someday.

Finally someone is pointing this out!!
So as a reader who've read 100+ manhwa/manga/manhua/comic/webtoon/novel/light novels, here are my pet peeves that I'm pretty sure many can relate; ⚠️This is gonna be long⚠️
"▶ The story being finished with so many plot holes and abandoned topic*
Ugghh, this happens mostly to an extended/non limited series. It's really annoying and I just hate it when I finish the story but there still " So what happened to the _?, I thought that _?, didn't they_? What does the_ means? ". I also don't like it if the story had many problems that wasn't solved in the ending but was later showed on the side story being somewhat solved 😑. No Offence to those who loved Encanto but the movie ended way too hastily leaving so many plot holes and question. The third act also was unsatisfying to me. I thought Mirabel will have a stand, Their Abuela realizing her mistakes through a more reasonable way or the family being more relevant. They also forgave Bruno too quick and the characters where lowkey annoying and undeveloped for me. The animation was top tier and beautiful but the story was not that great to be on my fave Disney movie list despite it having a great potential. Also, why didn't Mirabel have powers?, And how exactly did she became the saviour? She was the one to notice the breakage of Casita but, she still ended up not making anything to stop it from being ruined?. And the whole family was the one to build it back, I mean the whole community. The madrigals are depicted to be petty and are quick to yell at each other but somehow, they didn't blamed each other nor did a commotion start when the entire house breaks. They just simply hugged and remembered their love for their family when Abuela and Mirabel comes back(?). I don't know but the ending just weren't justified enough. Abuela is also that one villain character that was redeemed by a sad backstory.
*▶Unrealistic events and plot twist "
"She's my mom", " You're Adopted", "You're the son of the richest mafia"I'm dating your sister"," Your Butler is secretly part of the southern spies"," You and your boyfriend are long lost siblings". Umm, yeah??? These plot twist Is overused and annoying as f!¢k. Sometimes I can let this types of pot twist slip by IF THERE WERE ALREADY VARIOUS HINTS OF IT HAPPENING. Okay I get it, as an author, sometimes, I want my readers to be surprised and not have the "I knew it! " or "I knew this was gonna happen" moment. But if you want a kind of plot twist that will give your readers a " I never saw this coming! " moment, do you think we will all buy the unexpected "Related to the rich boss who send the goons to kil! your husband" confession, okay sometimes yeah but, our world is so big bro how did it happen that the bad guys mastermind was the same guy who gave you to the drunkards who you're currently calling parents!?
*▶ The repetitive "abandoned child" trope*
Yup, I've read hundreds of Manhwas and books and if you do, you probably know the protagonist starter pack, it's always the "My mom died when I was young and my dad abandoned/hates me😭" 😑 . First of all, why does the mom has to d!3? If it's not childbirth then probably by an unknown disease. Or maybe become a human sacrifice (or the last living vampire so she's being hunted and she kept the MC safe while she just offer herself when she can actually just hide along the child). Is giving birth really that hard before?. (Cough cough Who made me a princess, who's all character's mom literally died 😭)And next, why does the dad has to be so cruel or has to pretend to be cruel because he was so affected when his wife di3d. If this is not the case then probably the MC is an Orphan. Okay, sometimes this is inevitable especially when you need a character that doesn't need any unnecessary background origins. But can y'all make it a bit realistic? Or at least provide a reasonable explanation? It's okay to have some side roles be orphaned but for the leads, don't just leave their origins blank. Take Under The Oak tree as an example, both Female and Male Leads parents are dead, except for the Female character's dad (but you guess it, he's an Asshole). The FL's mom died of childbirth because they have a genetic disorder of being sensitive in pregnancy(the FL also have this) , while the FL's dad doesn't favor her not only because she's a girl (inheritance problem) but also because she's sickly and has speech impediment. Which is bad because her father is a dirt bag who cares a lot about reputation and honor (also has a plan on tying knots with the Royal Family). Look, I'm not saying that this reason is okay and acceptable because this is clearly not. I'm just saying that at least the reasons behind her dark story was explained and doesn't keep the readers feel cringey. (Most cruel dads just hate their daughter because they're ugly[which isn't really true], or because they're not suppose to..? Because they're suppose to be tough..? 🤨). The Ml's Mom died because of sui¢!de and his dad neglected him, the explanation and reasons was so effing realistic and detailed 🤌 I can't even question it.
*▶️The Female lead still choosing the Male lead that rapes or abused her*
    No explanation needed here
    *▶️Lack of realisticness*
70% of my knowledge about history are from Manhwas. But sometimes I can't help but laugh because of the misinformation the books I'm reading provides. Yeah I know that the logicness (if that's a word) doesn't really matter sometimes but author's, keep in mind that many of your readers are learners so at least do a research before publishing a book because it may lead to misleading knowledges. Many author's create their own world so they don't have to do a crazy research and just make up their own rules. But if you're creating a story based on this world, at least keep it realistic,.One novel once thought me that a patient who just got a brain operation can have a pageant the next day 🤦‍♀️😂.
    *▶️Normalization of Commatose/Cancer/Car accident*
This happens WAY TOO OFTEN IN MANHWA/MANGA/KDRAMA/MOVIE world. Like, everytimethe MC finds out something devastating, a white car will always appear to hit them. Or if a a forbidden fact will be known by someone, we all know that that someone will either be dead or fall under a Commatose. And if two people are being a perfect couple, one of them will probably got Cancer.
*▶️ new Bl's overusage of seggs scenes*
I'm straight and I don't usually read BL not because I'm homophobic but because I don't enjoy Male to male pairings chemistry too much. This also happens to opposite genders when they're personality and sometimes appearance doesn't fit well to me(admit it, looks of the MC's also matters when it comes to chemistry) But I do enjoy BL tropes sometimes. But lately I've been noticing that many majorities of New BL Manhwas are seggs. Probably because many of their readers are just some h0rny teenagers who craves to see two boys doing eeh ooh eeh ooh. Which is sad because BL/Yaoi stories have such a huge potential of having a unique story because we don't get to see this often before. Back then, BL has more sense unlike now. Stories are the same and predictable. A tall buff guy who's a boss then somehow took a liking on a shorter skinnier new recruit guy and invites him in his house on Chapter 4 to help him with something and ended up being a one night stand. I'm not saying this in general and pointing out every BL manhwa or mangas out there. Somehow, there are still Yaoi stories that keeps the beauty of LGBTQ going. (Also, is it just me or BL is really blowing up rn)
    *▶️overpowered MC"
Hmmmm, yeah, the overpowered main character that we all just love and hate. I enjoy an Op MC especially when it comes to fight scenes but op means no room for improvement and I don't really like stories without character or skills development. Sometimes there are also weak and unskilled MC that just becomes a GOD after training for 1 year 🤦‍♀️
    "▶️Love triangle*
I FU!!ING HATE LOVE TRIANGLES!!! Don't get me wrong, who doesn't like a Male lead jealous moment? That's why I like it when a third party appears, but only temporary. I just really hate it when there's this annoying baddie third wheel but nothing get's me more angrier than seeing a nice and gentlemen third party. Like, they don't deserve this. And Fvck that Female lead who keeps on leeching on those two guys like, pick a side gurl🙄. I also don't like the stereotypical " Take the baddie ignore the fluffy" love triangle trope because men in real life are now taking these serious and thinks that real girls prefers a joker bad boy type of men.
    *▶️The pick me bvtch FL*
I don't like FL's who are too soft and flirty
*▶️When villains are better than the main characters*
We sometimes can't help ourselves to feel bad for the villains but it's kind of rare for us to really side with the villain and hate the Mc. Most of this is probably caused by focusing too much on the Mc and the mc being self centered as Fvck
*▶️Mc's that are way too overhyped in the story*
Another word for Overpowered main character that always solves the problems with the dumbest resolve. This moments always makes me sympathise with the villains.

Late to comment but one of my pet peeves is when even the author is confused wether or not their story is fantasy with magic or without magic. I remember reading a comic where throughout a whole 50 chapters magic was never brought up nor was used by any of the characters but then when they can't find a way for the characters to overcome their problem magic suddenly exists to easily fix their problem. Like no Duchess if you had a magic cctv why didn't you whip that out like 40 chapters ago🤦

    Personal pet peeves:
    - dumb female leads who acts or supposed to have a gpa over 4.0
    - some father-daughter relationship because I think they tend to over exaggerate the affection of a father towards their daughters even though they're titled to be a cold-blooded tyrant.
    - overpowered MC ended up with a strong top ranked character and the character immediately fell in love with the MC
    - dramatically emphasize how adorable child MC is
    - weak female lead who always gets into trouble cause of rich 2nd lead girl jealousy x strong male lead bad boy who fell for the girl first while saving her countless times = being an indestructible pair because their love is stronger than the big meanie bad guys

I feel like using comedy to relieve tension is actually one of my favourite writing tropes. But it needs to be done well. An example from AoT (spoiler free) is that after a very big battle and a very serious plot twist, there is a feast that is thrown in celebration and one character comments on another character stuffing their face with pie. It's a funny and wholesome moment because it brings it back to the characters and gives a sense of familiarity while most importantly, relieving the tension. The important part is that this is done after the serious stuff in a cooldown period, and not in the middle of the fight.
I feel like a lot of writers are able to get this right anyway, so I don't see it as much of a problem

The thing about SFX: I'm actually glad I'm not the only one thinking that was a bit weird. My first language is Indonesian and in the Indonesian translated comic they usually do the SFX (example: breaking a door) like "BRAK!!", "KRAK!!" or "BLAM!!" something like that. And the first time I dive into the English translated comics I feel weird when they describe it like "Broke" or "opens"😅 like, why do you have to describe it?. But now I'm pretty much used to it and it's no longer becoming a problem to me.

My pet-peeve is mostly when the MC goes back to abusive partners (Regardless of gender). So far all isekai comics I read the female lead/male lead has the goal to get away from the partner because of how they treated them in their past life but ends up with the abusive partner anyways. I end up dropping them halfway. I guess it’s the redemption arc but I feel like it’s not done well.
Ah yes the info dumping I always forget what is happening, or important details. Doesn’t help comic apps time-lock you so I forget details while waiting between 1-7 days to read the next chapter

FINALLY THIS IS BEING TALKED ABOUT. I HATE HATE HATE when someone ruins a serious scene by adding some “mood lightening” bullshit. I used to love a webtoon called Siren’s Lament. And this would happen fairly often but I straight up stopped reading it when one of the love interests kissed the mc (while she’s in a relationship with the other) and she tells him they can’t do that and it’s a fairly emotional scene until the author put them in chibi form with him being like fine can I have some more pudding and her yelling at him to go to bed.

I’m fine if a webtoon artist takes two weeks to make a bigger episode, but these single page episodes seriously make me mad. It’s okay to combine them!! take your time!! it’s all about the viewing experience for your audience and if your readers get annoyed with constantly having to click to the next episode after only 4 panels they are going to want to stop reading.

One of my greatest pet peeves of all has to be hate fodder characters. I know a lot of webcomics are meant to be self-insert stories and as such the villains or rivals we're rooting against are supposed to be irredeemable given we don't want the self-insert character to be in the wrong (which is a whole other pet peeve in itself), but it's frustrating to see such shallow characters that are supposed to serve such an important role. They literally only exist to be hateable and it makes the story so boring. I've seen a number of webcomics get ruined because the antagonist is really only there to be the one who's responsible for ruining everything just because they're the antagonist and they're an awful jerk.

I've been reading romance webtoons for some years now, and because of oversaturation i grew tired of some troupes that now most of the time can makes me drop a work:
    1. An overly stiff artwork, wich i understand that a lot of the time the super stylized artwork of these genres of mangas leads to awkward looking poses and proportions, but i can't take seriously a ugly looking baby mc, or a goofy eyed cold ml lol.
    2. Instant love, one would think that romances would have a better developed romantic relationships, but nop, and specially when It's for a dumb reason like "a woman never hit me before, i'm going to make you fall for me" like what????? Or the mc Is just doing the bare minimun of kidness and the love starved ml just swears loyalty at that very moment, like, dude, she just helped you not bleed to death, basic human decency.
    3. The dense mc. Normaly i don't mind if the mc Is a little dense about romance, specially if she's focused in something else, but when she Is denying the very clear affection of the ml and thinking that he is actually in love with the original fl, who he never showed hint of being interested in, it drives me crazy. And some of these woman were a grown ass woman before, some with relationships and expierence, they have to be better with their emotional intelligence.

MC acting like a child, and being dense when they have knowledge beforehand, and even if they aren't a child, they like to have the thought process of one, I dont know if anyone else notices but it annoys me when "Normal" adults who isekai into a novel do anything but behave like realistic adults.
One of my personal pet peeves is when MC dies in their pastlife and when they are reborn, they're just another copy of a kind and sweet female lead, and the only redeeming factor from straying from that trope is the fact they had a past life and remember it.
Like if the MC who acts like a typical kind and sweet female lead wins all the hearts of the men, what's the point? It's just the same original story, but with a different girl. The MC is just a sweet, innocent, kind, all loved MC who wins all the hearts, its just a typical heroine, nothing special, except they had a past life. There is a reason why I couldnt read WMMAP anymore.
This is a common occurrence in villainess isekais. When MC reincarnates into the villain, all of a sudden they start redeeming themselves, winning over OG ML and becoming another original heroine type girl. Everyone forgets the wrongdoings and loves the "Villan" who shouldn't have that title anymore.
Oh yeah, when MC gets reincarnated as a villainess but the villainess is a child. It just removes the villain role from the main story, there is no significance to the tag of villain anymore if they got reincarnated as a child who is not known to be a horrible villain yet/
When I read an isekai manhwa about a villainess, I mean i read it for the fact they are a villain. I like MCs who reincarnate into villains and are a TRUE villain, but they are very smart and cunning
Your throne is one of my favorites because the mc is "Morally flexible"
I don't want a villain redemption "I'm the new heroine all kind and sweet"
I want a true villain who is smart and morally flexible because with a villain, a true one, it is not all sunshine and rainbows. I rest my case

I have A LOT of pet peeves, especially towards the "isekai princess" genre (stealing the term from another commentor), some of which have already been addressed in the video or other comments, so here's some more.
    - Underwhelming world-building and lore; you have the generetic mix of eras European countries with a name pulled out from Fantasy Name Generator, and that's basically it. But the problem is, these stories seem to want to focus on politics (sort of, romance and drama are more important), but fail at it. Everything seems to be about the FL or ML, it's like the leads as a person, not an entity, but if they're an emperor/ess or someone important like that, I feel like theyy need to be an entity, at least partly (as in, a represention of their nation, someone whose people have misconceptions about, expectations... of course, their people are still gonna gossip about their personal life, but idk stories where it's just gossip about personal life is... not interesting in my opinion). I'm not sure if it makes sense, I don't really know how to explain. What I'm trying to get at is sometimes if there's a war or something like that, you don't get a sense that a whole nation is in danger, just the FL.
    - The fashion; GOD. it ties in to the world-building but the fashion is all over the place. I like the Remarried Empress but FL (sorry, can't remember the names) has a medieval-inspired dress in a scene than a modern gown in the other???? I understand that fashion history is not everyone's cup of tea, but COME ON!! not only do you have the most generetic country in the world, with no semblance of culture, religions, food.... but the fashion does not help at all, because it's further pushing the generic lore forward.
    - Overall designs; it's not new that manga-manhwa have an issue with same face and body syndrome, which is not too much of an issue if they have little things that make you go "wow!! it's x character". But no! these stories features FL with long wavy colorful hair and ML is just... some dude really, maybe spice it up with a dark-skinned ML with light hair, who weirdly enough is impulsive, a bit dumb and sometimes a pervert, hm...
Anyways, I have so much to say about them cause they're my guilty-pleasure and also a good way for me to see what elements I should not include in my stories.

Character designs, it's hard to protest if it's the illustrator's style. Similar face and appearance. But come on, if your style is similar with other, don't use the same hair style, hair color, and personality. It's difficult for me to remember many MLs because they have this similar appearance (black/white/blonde hair, red eyes, cold personality). Why don't you make funny ML with green hair?
And for female characters, sometimes the supposed-to-be-heroine-but-turn-out-to-be-villainess will have this straight hair and innocent appearance, while the MC has wavy hair and more sexy-gorgeous face. It's so stereotypical.

Literally indistinguishable. Like I like black haired hotties as much as the next person but it’s giving that scene in toy story with all the buzz light year dolls. They’re always so broody and “misunderstood” and have some sort of traumatic back story that can only be understood by the mc, I can literally read a webtoon, and forget that it’s supposed to be a different story. Occasionally theyre blonde which is a nice change of pace, and white or red haired (but not orange) if you’re lucky. Don’t we have other colors in the gaddamned rainbow? It’s fucken fantasy Why the side charas look more interesting???? I know *one* Korean isekai webtoon with a none black/blonde/red/white hair and it’s beware of the villainess. Sure it’s ok to have a fantasy of some obsessive male/female who would do anything to protect you or some shit but it just makes me uncomfortable. Especially when the lead seems genuinely uncomfortable and terrified but they go along with what the male lead wants because of the power imbalance. It’s just so normalized in isekai romances.

I actually don't read any Webtoon originals because they're just filled to the brim with bullshit that I can't stand. Just too much to list. The only reason I have Webtoon downloaded is for Canvas, literally no other reason. And when I say Canvas, I mean the REALLY new stuff. If it has less than 1k likes, I'm probably going to read it.
So I guess these would be my biggest pet peeves for Canvas series:
    - More filler/update chapters than actual chapters. It's always a turn off when I click on a series with 8 chapters, and 6 of them are "bonus drawing" or "I can't upload this weekend so I'll upload next weekend" or "I know I only uploaded a 2-panel prologue chapter, but here's the remake of my character designs that you haven't even seen yet!"
    - when there's only one chapter or prologue posted, but the author feels the need to start a Q&A right away. Idk why this is such a big thing with young creators, but almost ALL of them are obsessed with hosting Q&As on stories that only consist of the character walking into math class and seeing a cute guy so far. Nothing else.
    - "meet the characters" chapters. You know, the ones where the author literally just uploads a bunch of character references with their likes/dislikes/personality/history/etc. Like okay, I don't care. If this shit was important, you'd convey it through the story. Please don't let "show don't tell" die.
    - episodes that only consist of a majority of white space and like, 3 panels. I know you probably have school or whatever impeding your creative process, but instead of making 3 panels and saying "that's all I have", make a backlog of episodes before uploading your first one so that you have a large headstart and don't fall behind.
    - "coming soon" chapters. I see an extremely large amount of authors upload their stories and the first chapter is just text or a picture saying "coming soon" without any other information. Like... Okay?? Why upload this then?
    - the story starting with the main character waking up and getting ready for school (or work). This is a pretty good drinking game that'll get you plastered. Take a shot every time a Canvas story starts with the character stopping their alarm clock, or someone yelling at them that they're gonna be late. I understand that creating a hook to draw people in is difficult, but this is so overdone that it's more surprising to see someone not do that.
    - prologue being spelled as "prolouge". I'm more surprised when someone spells it correctly than humored when someone spells it wrong.
There's a couple more, but this is already pretty long. A lot of this can be excused for the fact that many Canvas authors are young people making their first comics, but they'll never learn or break from the mold if you don't give them constructive criticisms like these.

I often thought of this when the MC was isekai'd into the opposite gender (Or general any genre that do this). Won't they experience some form of body dysmorphia? Like don't you miss or want to be back to the sex you're comfortable with, well, unless they don't care about the sex then sure. Yet, it still irks me-

my pet peeve: every comic that has the word "villainess," "princess," "transported into another world," "marrying the villain," "duke," "duchess," etc etc. Basically the isekai genre of webtoons that has something to do with monarchy lol

    @kuraikonguyen9303 2 года назад +6

my pet peeves and this is usually with isekai princess genre, but just that:
    - it's always that the MC wakes up and they're nobility or royalty. Idk, maybe bc i'm looking for things to be shaken up a bit, but i want an MC that just wakes up they're a commoner or farmer or even a maid (Surviving as the Maid, I will forever love you). One part is bc I want to see the MC actually struggle against something that is kinda out of their control and build themselves up literally from the ground. when they're reborn as upper class, they have the time and resources available to them, limited as they are, but when you're just some commoner or servant? that's gonna be a whole lot trickier and requires some brain work in order to get what you want or even survive. I also love isekai that makes commentary on the world they live in. for ex, in Surviving as the Maid, the MC comments how it's usually the servants that has to bear the brunt of when things go wrong, ensure that everything goes as planned for the leads, and/or when something magical happens to the leads, that's not the case for the servants that has to deal with the fallout. and that's such an interesting pov, considering that as a servant herself, she doesn't have the resources to change anything - she can only follow if she wants to live.
    - they're usually set in some medieval European fantasy world? Yes, there are a couple set in Ancient China or Korea, but by far fantasy Europe is the most abundant and popular. It's just that the usually Korean MC dies in their past life, and wakes up as a white girl and go "i'm so much more beautiful now!!" and there's something very "white European beauty standards idealization" about it underneath that makes me go "hnn" i find it more interesting if the MC wakes up with the same face and body and STILL gets that happy ending.
    - i love the quote "I’m just a woman. And as a woman, there’s no way for me to make my own money. Not enough to earn a living or to support my family, and if I had my own money, which I don’t, that money would belong to my husband the moment we got married. And if we had children, they would be his, not mine. They would be his property, so don’t sit there and tell me that marriage isn’t an economic proposition, because it is. It may not be for you, but it most certainly is for me." from the Little Women (2019) movie cause it encapsulates perfectly why some women, esp those in the past, desperately want to get married. and i think if we got that sort of nuances from even the "mean girl to MC" characters, it would add more depth into the story. bc some isekai story paints the MC to be the absolute perfection, villain or otherwise, and condemns other female characters. i want to see a "mean girl" and the MC hash it out and get to see why the mean girl is the way she is, that isn't reduced to simply money or liking the lead - they want to be where the MC is bc they know that an advantageous position like that is the best they can get to live.
    - some of these male leads need more to their character other than "angsty and cold." some of which are borderline abusive honestly. give the man some character, a little bit of personality other than de-facto "bad/cold boy"
    - overpowerd MC. once MC becomes the most super powered, smartest character in the story, i'm not as invested.

One of my pet peeves are the "I've possess the villainess" or "I've possess a character in the novel that I'm reading" stories.
The Mc is from Korea or something like that, then died, get isekaied to the game or novel they're reading and possess a character from the novel. At first they got confused and have goals, and just roll with the world they got stuffed in, as the story goes forward, everything is for gotten completely. Like they've actually become the character they possessed and it didn't even cross their mind like "I better GFTO here" Or just wonder their existence in the novel. You know questioning stuff any further. Though there are webtoons out there that are doing it right. Like "Kill the villainess" and "villainess have fun today". There are webtoons that the Mc is completely forgot that they're in the novel. Makes me wonder why they wrote that in the first place.
This is why sometimes I prefer the "time travel" isekai stories.

My personal pet peeve I've ever had when reading isekai webtoons/webcomics is that when MC decided to create a decision/path that will diverse from the original plot, after doing so she got confused when one character-- who is obviously the most affected by that decision-- went out of their original path. I mean, she knows this would happen and when it actually happens she got that pikachu face.

One of my pet peeves in the historical princess shōjo romance (if yk yk) webcomics are the copy and pasted male leads: always has black hair, red/blue eyes and is some cold tyrant, probably a duke or the crown prince.
I always sigh when they come up, maybe it's only my choices on which webtoons I pick out to read but I see it so often that I got tired of reading the princess shōjo romance stuff despite it being my favourite genre.
Along with the pet peeve everyone talks about "the isekai mc not having anything interesting in their past life," I did not notice how much I needed that until I read trash of the counts family's novel. Kinda spoiler ig? But I was so surprised at how fleshed out the plot and lore was in the story like they actually gave us a backstory to the mc AND an actual story to why the mc got isekai'd??? 😩
I definitely recommend reading it, disclaimer tho!! it doesn't have any romance more of a friendship/family action with emotional scenes kind of plot.

My top pet peeves? 1. When the prologue shows a scene in the story that's apparently at the end. Like sure, it's interesting and draws me in. But then I have to drag through hundreds of episodes to get to the episode/chapter that interested me in the first place! 2. When there's some kind of reincarnation thing, but the MC doesn't use any previous knowledge at all. 3. Love triangles. Don't get me wrong, love triangles are great. But the side squeeze is always the more interesting one and the one I end up rooting for, so I get disappointed when the MC picks the main squeeze. 4. Halting the story to take an entire chapter to over-explain something that has no bearing on the plot whatsoever. Like, I work as a fiction editor. And one of the biggest things I strike my author for is RELEVANCE. I have taken CHUNKS out of his books as a strike of relevance. And I always explain it the same way. "If you, as the author, cannot explain to me WHY this is important and WHAT it contributes to the story (Whether that be helping develop a character or push the plot forward) then it DOESN'T MATTER. Brief flavor text is fine, but don't fill up an entire chapter of backstory if it has ZERO bearing on the plot." 5. When the story feels rushed, even though there are 100+ episodes/chapters. Or feels like it drags on when there's maybe 50 episodes/chapters. Flow is an important thing with fiction. Having a story flow smoothly so things don't feel like they happen too quickly or too slowly. So when it feels like things just move way too fast or too slow, it takes me out of it. Tower of God is one of those webcomics that has SO MANY CHAPTERS and everything takes SO LONG, but because of how the story is done it doesn't feel like it drags on for ages. Flow=good. Whereas something like Light and Shadow had a decent number of chapters (Over a hundred if I remember right) but everything felt like it happened way too fast. Flow=bad.

I agree with your 1 so much. I remember I was reading Cat Prince (?), but it turns out that the titular prince in the prologue isn't met in the free chapters. In addition, a cool make up artist character interesting enough to make me want to read about him instead gets introduced in an early chapter. It's isekai, so I know I'll never see him again and I didn't bother reading any more.

absolutely agree with #1. I was reading Midnight Rain and it starts off with a scene of the characters as adults, but then the rest of the story is them as children (like ELEVEN year olds) and I was so confused. And then it turns out the author said that opening scene was actually not the main plotline, the main plot would be them growing up in real-time. ???

-The supporting or no-name characters have no substance to them and are only there to make the mc look good in comparison. Its pointless and aggravating to continuously create characters that are just whisked away by the mc insulting them or stealing their spotlight or something. I'd rather see characters that have their own lives and personalities beyond the mc than this.
-the isekai or reincarnated stories having no real reason for the character to be reincarnated in the first place. I get that it's a popular genre and its an easy way of explaining the world to a newcomer but beyond that most authors don't do anything with it. I would like to see more stories that actually have the mc try to use their knowledge of their past life to help them in the new one but most of the time the mc is just complete clueless so what was the point of reincarnation? They might as well have made it a regular story and nothing would change. I'm just tired of seeing the set-up be "I died in an accident and I don't know where I am" that tells me nothing about the character and developing the personality of said character much, MUCH later doesn't help either.
    - isekai or reincarnated stories that have a weird or interesting idea but poor execution. There's too many to count but frankly they end up overstaying their welcome after the first few chapters.
-I've only seen this once but when the story either doesn't know or follow what kind of world it's supposed to be in. Like if its suppose to be set in some regular old European-esque town from the past then I shouldn't be seeing any modern concepts like a gym or dumbbells being use since they were not previously established. It really takes me out of the world.

I LOVE IT when authors write the action of what's happening as if it were an sound effect! Mostly, because I know that's a common form of onomatopoeia used in manga/manhua/manhwa/east asian comics. And, for me, it helps me conceptualise the actions easier. Often, I lose focus and comprehension when there is just pages and pages of images without dialogue. Having simple action effects really helps keep readers like me grounded in the story and keeps readers like me in the loop of what's going on. And constant sound effects, like actual onomatopoeia, can make my head feel very cluttered trying to conceptualise what they are trying to sound out.
With all of that being said, I absolutely understand how it can be frustrating/annoying for others, as it is redundant and there are probably lots of cases where it is overused and bloats the scene.

It addition to the lack of facial expression in order to make the character pretty:
I hate it when it suddenly jumps to a super realistic expressive face for humor. There is no in-between. I’ve seen this in professional comics and it’s so frustrating. Especially when they make is grotesque. You can have characters be pretty and expressive at the same time. Wither remove or learn to deform and stretch those details.

I have a number of pet peeves, a lot of which were already mentioned, but I think the biggest one for me is, oddly enough, the fact that they just never end. And tbh this goes for a lot of things these days, but for so many webcomics (and manga, etc) there's just no end in sight, and it ends up kind of making me lose interest.I want conclusions! Or I want to know that we're at least approaching one! That something has been plotted out. Sure there are a billion copies of the same story out there, but I can count on one hand the number of them I've actually seen come to an end, and most of those had endings that felt weirdly rushed. I know full well that the amount of work that goes into making these stories is immense and takes a lot of time, so as much as I'd like to complain about the speed at which they get updated, but man when it takes 150 chapters just to clear up a couple misunderstandings because the main characters keep getting sidetracked by This Week's Contrived Subplot it just feels like things are getting dragged out so you don't have to come up with an actual ending. Idk I just keep catching up to webcomics and starting new ones and catching up and starting new ones that I'm starting to lose track of the hundreds of near identical plots in the hundreds of tabs I have open as I wait for them to update (and get off of hiatus) and I wish just one of them would have a good, satisfying ending to wrap things up. I'm having a hard time picking up new series knowing that they're just going to get added to a pile of unfinished stories that MIGHT get a conclusion in another two or three decades.
Edit: Oh also, unnecessary Isekai. At this point like 80% of these stories just slap on a "oh and btw I reincarnated into a book/game/etc" label on their main character even though it barely impacts the plot and could easily have gone without it with little to no changes. Not to mention these characters can never seem to wrap their mind around the concept of the butterfly effect. Sure there's caution and referencing what you know ORIGINALLY happened, but tbh as soon as you change one thing, or even as soon as you start acting like yourself instead of whoever you basically possessed (and tbh not enough of these really touch on how messed up that is and how these characters are basically puppeteering the body of a stranger and pretending to be them around everyone they once knew. But hey maybe that's just me) I give regressor stories a LITTLE more credit, but even those are a dime a dozen these days

i think the sfx and vfx part (mostly vfx) rather stems from the fact that usually creators whose art skills aren't developed enough yet, have to put some kind of indicator there, otherwise the viewer won't be able to tell what the character is supposed to be doing, as the artist themselves can't express it properly. I mostly see this in action scenes for example.

1.One i hated was when the cover had different art than the webcomic.
    2. Another problem for me was when the author introduces a whole different story line that if it was removed it would be completely it wouldn't effect the story or they don't even revisit/talk about it after one chapter.
    3. I hate it when the FL who is supposed to be a villain ends up with the ML ( unless the heroine was actually the evil one or some other issue ) A story that doesn't follow this trope i love is "Kill the Villaniess"
    4. When the FL ( in mostly isekai ) rebirths and the person who was in that body before them was a whole different person and none of the characters question the sudden change.

Also: using a past life as an excuse to make a child deal with mentally ill people and “cure” them with their fake love displayed because they’re literally afraid to die. Not by therapy because they were a therapist in their past life, no, the power of love

    Concerning 3:45
I like it when there's a serious moment and one of the characters makes an unfitting joke leaving the other one silent or sth trivial but usually funny happening.
It feels much more natural and can relief forced tension.
Like, imagine you having a serious talk and you fidget around with something because you're tense and nervous. Suddenly, the thing you're fidgeting drops or you fling it around and it lands in your face or sth like that. It can happen, but it won't make the moment any less important to you, right?
And joking around can be a way of coping, like using dark humor for example. It makes the scene more awkward - and being awkward is realistic, especially when one of the characters involved is usually the optimistic, happy-go-lucky, carefree type.
It shouldn't be overdone to a level of being unnecessary and distracting of course, but it's not always bad
    7:43
I think this one can be done very nicely if it's not too much text and if you show some visuals alongside it (If I recall correctly, Magical Boy did this pretty well)
Another good reason to do this is if your story is supposed to be quite short and you basically don't have the time to establish the world in a lengthy and more subtle way, but you still wanna get the idea across to not leave any open questions or confusion.
But in no way should reading the prologue just be a 10 minute Text in front of a white bg, UGH

Personally, I like the "sfx" verbs. It's useful if the art is unclear, and it gives me something to look at ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. My biggest pet peeve is when a story has a really interesting premise, but it's resolved immediately and just devolves into a generic romance... It's annoying to start reading a comic for what seems to be a good plot, and then have the plot done away with within 20 chapters when there are 70 more. I see this especially with isekai novels.

  • @yexxee.random1874

I have a couple of peeves. First, a lot of media, including some of the Webtoons I have read, include plots that start great but turn into a complicated mess where few readers know what is going on (usually once the author runs out of ideas). The biggest priority is giving the readers something they enjoy, and if the plot gets more complicated, it's better to either explain it well or scrap it for something different. Also, don't include random information in your story without at least hinting at it beforehand.
I am not a Webtoon author, but I feel like one of the largest struggles authors may have is making readers remember the foreshadowing and information you placed despite them waiting a week at a time for new chapters. In a Webtoon that's 300 chapters long, readers aren't gonna want to search through them all for a detail that was presented so forgetfully.
Second, some Webtoons slowly degrade their quality (art, music, animations, etc)over time. There isn't any need to rush (maybe if you're having financial issues then sure), I'd much prefer work that is complete even if it takes longer than expected.

    My pet peeve
When a character is supposed to be smart but in the comic they're doing dumb decisions, especially if they're claimed to be a professional at the thing they're doing.
A comic suddenly having a bunch of love interests for the male lead when the comic doesnt have the romance tag in it
The MC being WAY TOO OBLIVIOUS at the VERY OBVIOUS signs of someone being inlove with them. Especially when multiple of love interests constantly showing it
This isnt comic but I see it alot in fantasy and adventure genre in anime, male lead always having females as his team members. Like, not a single male in the team except for MC. Or when a male lead helps someone and that someone always has a very good looking daughter who falls inlove with MC
Romance genre anime, they often have female characters just straight up abusing, bullying the male lead and get away with it

  • @zzz9121
    @zzz9121 2 года назад +4

my biggest pet peeve is when the characters are blandly designed. The female characters always have the same long brown hair with bangs and the male leads had excessively attractive abs with black two block haircut. Like, there's no creativity at all. Not to mention, the elders are elders because they have some kind of line on their face. I do realized that drawing elders are literally one of the hardest thing to draw, but at least use reference or study how to draw them. You can't just draw a young man and stroke a line on his cheek then call him old.
