You forgot one: Don't clutter the speech bubble This is a problem I see as a reader is too much words in the same bubble. It overwhelms me, I don't like reading long paragraphs. To fix this is just to transfer the other sentence into another speech bubble.
@SUZE MING LI Moe in one of her videos, she says that it's MUCH more important to not do that if the comic, or manga, in this case, is supposed to be taken seriously, which you and I can agree that in the case of TDLSK is not really serious lol
There was a video she made where it was something alone the line of art cheats. One of the tips was tracing backgrounds from games but im not sure if this will help. Its more her words not mine.
Just make your whole building or background in Minecraft Then screenshot Then trace and stylize it to make it as how you desire it to look (in your preferred art style✨) like for example, the trees in Minecraft. Draw it like real trees unless ya like blocky trees then trace it as it is! Nobody’s stopping you ^^ Its your comic! Have fun with making it. Dont stress too much
That moment when you have a huge cast of characters, an insane amount of episodes already written, and good ideas of their designs built from years of working with them but you don’t have the patience to actually draw the comic
Here's some advice from a 12 year old, time doesn't always geurente perfection. My favorite pieces of art (consider my profile pic) takes around 20 minutes while the ones that take days to finish normally kinda lose there souls. That doesn't mean that putting time into something guerentes ( plz help spell ) that it'll be trash. If you want to make an art that you know will take a while then feel free to take brakes. And a lot of them.
Once upon a time there was a hack fraud artist and everyday he'd draw. He mostly drew comic material because that's what he likes to do. Until one day he realized he's not so good at planning things out before hand! And because of that he takes advice from various artists across the interwebs, and because of that he starts getting ideas for his own work, _and because of that_ he's already spent half the day thinking rather than doing. Until finally, he goes to bed. Well _shoooot,_ that didn't go as planned. We'll get 'em next time!
I have a comic idea its about a boy and he was hanging with his friends and they start jumping off a cliff into the ocean, my main guy (mathew) goes first and when he jumps and his head hits a rock really hard and he fell into a coma. While he is in a coma he is in a dream world, at first the dream world is amazing and he forgets about the real world. But there are nightmares too right? Sooo his dream start becoming a nightmare where all his dream friends start dying or becoming mutated and are trying to kill Mathew, so there is only one friend left and the happy fantasy world goes all mad. He is trying to get out of there and save himself and his friend but they can't get out of this world. So while Mathew is trying to get out with his friend he suddenly wakes up from his coma which lasted 4 years, but his dream friend is acually real and is stuck in Mathews nightmare, and his "dream friend is also in a coma and she has to wake up to get out the nightmare (by the way all his friends that died are kids the couldnt wake up from the coma) so he searches for her and finds her, and helps her wake up and saves her so its kind of a happy end i guess.
Angel Amelina That sounds AWESOME I’m writing a story about how Cameron and his two siblings(their triplets) are leaving home but crash off a bridge and they enter a dreamworld where everything gets controlled by the evil dream master but they end up realizing its their dream and they can control it so once they defeat the dream master they head back to the real world because there is no one to control the dream. They end up staying and being closer than ever :) Keep Up your great work 👍
Kinda reminds me of Yu+Me Dream, a comic that already exists? It's got beautiful art and is completed so if you want to see a good story kinda like this one that already exists maybe go check that one out?
I want to make a comic but I want to develop a style that's kind of simple first. As of now, I have a good style when it comes to just a couple of drawings but I would probably get tired if it were a lot of drawings.
lemon I kinda feel the same way. I've been leaning more towards writting a novel instead of making a comic and then making the illustrations, maybe as a companion book, because I always wanted to write a novel, but that still doesn't fix my tendency to create convoluted plot lines. I guess it would be the "Dark Souls of literature", even though I already atributed that title in my mind to José Saramago.
i have an anime style with kind of long bodies, so not the chibi cute kind of anime style but more realistic anatomy, and drawing illustrations like that takes ages x-x i also wish i had a more styalized version for comics or something but i'm really bad at developing an endearing comic style x) Of course i could choose to draw a manga but i'd despair so badly after one page xD
Derek Rye I have a semi-realistic art style that doesn't take me ages to draw. Basically the proportions are close to realistic (the shortest character is 5 heads, most characters are about 6 heads and tall characters are 7 heads) but their designs (face, hair, clothes, etc) are quite simple, and there's only more detail in them when there's a reason for it. I've drawn people so much that I don't really find it difficult to simplify them. But backgrounds are trickier for me, they take a lot longer than I'd like. Basically I don't know when to stop drawing grass, leaves, textures etc. I want the backgrounds to look like they belong in a fictional area in a real town that exists, so I have to do research too, but I can't take straight reference. :/
i dont know i just really struggle drawing in a comic style xD i can draw poses in my semi realistic anime style, but simple style poses? hell nah! backgrounds are really really tough too. thats also why i wanna draw in a 'simple' comic style so the bg's can be simple as well x)
For me it has been easier since i started having a notebook to make quick doodles. How I usually go on a train, I have a limited time, and is really messy because of the posture and movement. So I ended up simplifying a lot my style to it. now it’s a lot simpler and straight. Thought I still can do detailed artwork.
maybe you could do a do-this-not-that on outfit design!! that was always one of the hardest things for me to draw, when i was younger and i put extraneous lines all over the place because i had no idea how fashion worked or how to make outfits. like. look good it'd also be nice if you could include some tips on how to make the outfit match your character's personality, what with colors and styles and things.
well, one of the best ways to make an outfit fit your character's personality is through shape language. If you don't know what that is here's the basic idea: different base shapes in your character designs will show a different kind of personality. Squares indicate a sturdy and strong character, circles indicate a bouncy and kind character, and triangles indicate a dangerous and quick character. You can combine these in different amounts to make all sorts of personalities and it really helps make your characters read the way you want!
Me: has about 10 different stories and doesn’t know which one to make into a comic Also me: doesn’t know how to make a comic Also also me: is really indecisive Update: finally working on a comic idea! It’s in the early stages of development but it’s coming along nicely :)
Same I have like 5 comic/story ideas! I narrowed my opinions on if I ever experienced it or if I could relate to it, and considering how I've been single for like forever, I crossed out my romance ideas, then I thought which sounded more exciting to me a pacifitic fantasy or an adventure, action fantasy... I chose adventure fantasy! This was just how I narrowed my ideas to one I could work on and be satisfied with 😁 just do what you find more exciting!
I want to write a comic about this girl who was lonely and a frequent daydreamer, so she created for herself imaginary friends to keep her company and get rid of her boredom and loneliness. However, her imagination gets out of control as she desperately trys finding a cure to her boredom and loneliness. In a sense, her dreams quickly become nightmares. Her imaginary friends turn on her, and she is constantly chasing after things she can't have. Over time, her sanity has fallen apart and she struggles with everyday life. However, she finally learns what it feels like to have a real friend when she meets this boy. Though this isn't a cure to her insanity, she gradually learns how to control it. What do you think?
@@kievduque It's not published yet. To be honest I have a lot of different comic ideas. This is just one of my ideas. None of them have been completely finalized yet, but my dream is to get into making webcomics after I graduate next year (preferably on webtoon).
Ooohhh this looks both adventurous and cute! I would definitely read a comic based on such imaginative and smart idea! So go on it, you clearly got this! 🥳
I know this is a comment from ages ago, but just in case this helps... You can force inspiration. Pick a topic that interests you. It could be a particular trope, or an animal, mythological beastie, just some guy you know, even yourself. Then brainstorm it, where is it set? Who lives in this world? The very basics of a story are: 1: who? 2: where? 3: problem 4: solution. You could think up some problems randomly but a great way I have found is asking 'Why?' Ask why are the characters like they are? Why is the world like it is? What do the characters most want and why do they want those things? (Or maybe they particularly don't want something that is about to happen to them, or be given to them, and why do they not want it?) If you're still not sure, try researching things that interest you that will fit with your genre. Want to write fantasy? Research folklore or fairytales or royal history or how regular people lived. Research horrible Victorian jobs that no longer exist. Research blacksmithing. Want to write a mystery? Read about crimes and unsolved mysteries, maybe try visiting a museum. Teen high school drama/comedy? Try reading some teen magazines or ya fiction. Don't exclude fiction from your research. It's okay to be inspired by other stories, just don't plagarise them. Read your genre to know what has And hasn't been done, and read outside your genre to learn new things. And don't try to be 100% original because it's impossible. Don't throw out ideas too soon. If they aren't working for you right now, keep them written down somewhere, one day maybe whatever is missing to make it a great idea will suddenly click. I hope that helps, if you're still stuck wanting to make something but don't know where to start, or helps anyone else reading your comment who is having the same problem.
This was a delight. I have struggled very badly with project anxiety for years and years now, but finally recently decided to do one - just a short 21-page fanstory for now. But I managed to hammer out a full script, and draw thumbnails for the first four pages (essentially the first scene) and set up all the digital templates for the page and went far enough to announce it to everyone I know on every social media to sort of make it so I HAVE to finish it- So seeing this and realizing I am more or less doing the whole thing "right", as that's always a major worry. I think I may feel better about it now.
Just wondering if you could give me some advice. My art skills aren't the best, but I love storytelling and I want to try creating a webcomic to improve my art skills. Should I? I feel like most webcomics I see seem very skilled and professional, it makes me afraid to start. Thanks for reading.
I don’t have a comic but I remember this from my English teacher and will praise him for it. Time yourself to write. 5-8minutes is all you get. Just write. It works for me because I have this little time maybe one minute to think. It helps because it kinda gives you anxiety of not being able to write enough so you try to write as much as you can
my favorite comic artist is the manga artist Sui Ishida, the artist who made and illustrated the Tokyo Ghoul manga. i never read the chapters that would correlate with season one because the anime was enough for me, and as i continued reading i looked back at the first page ever aND HOLY SHIT his style evolved so amazingly. at the start it was very clean and very simple manga style, but now (he ended it recently btw) the shading varies more, and this scratchiness in the lineart fits in perfectly with the story. even if you arent a manga reader id recommend just looking at the manga because its my favorite art style ever.
Nichirin Yes, it's definitely good advice to look at different comic styles, even if you aren't interested in reading them! Comics of a specific genre that you enjoy the most might have very similar styles, so looking at those that you necessarily wouldn't read can give you new ideas.
Dude, Ishida improved SO MUCH! It's really unusual for a mangaka to actually improve throughout a single series, but holy shit, the original Tokyo Ghoul manga is such an art journey. I really didn't like his initial artstyle. It looked stiff and strange, but fast forward 3 years and voilá holy fuck now it's actual amazing shit. Also, Drewhatever dude. Generic moe style? I mean, it's very much a manga style that's for sure, and if you don't like the manga style you're not gonna get anything new there... But I think you need to look up what moe means.
@@d.arlin.g6037 To be far, I had made all my comics in school, so it took longer, but those I made at home In all honesty it really takes me an hour our two to make a comic, it just gets distributed
I'm making a comic! Its called "Overpopulated", and I really like how the story is going. I'm in the script writing bit, so I'm planning the entire thing out before I write it. It's basically about this alien who lives on a planet that's super populated and they're running out of room. So all the people get cheap access to space stuff (cheap meaning like $20,000 instead of billions of dollars) and they are trying to find a new planet for people to live on once their planet fills up.
@@charliejpeg8755 I had the plot down, but I gave up during the script writing process and haven't really touched it since lol I kinda forgot about it until I saw this reply in my inbox :P I might go back to working on it soon, now that I've been reminded of its existence ✨
I always draw my comics without thinking And volia I actually make something cool It's my weird art lucky *And are my hands shaky or am I just bad at flipaclip*
I tried writing a story as I go without any planning whatsoever. Long story short: I _despised it_ I like making fascinating characters and having the complex world build around them as I trench deeper and deeper into this magnificent world wondering what else is in store for them. So not doing any of that drove me crazy and I ended up deleted it. I wish I had that art luck ╥﹏╥
The skeleton thing is a great tip but I personally love writing out the whole story before I start. It just gets rid of so much stress to know exactly what's going to happen. Plus I can get feedback on the story before I'm 11 chapters in and just then realizing I completely forgot to introduce something or wrote myself into a corner, and I'm able to plan out my chapter thumbnails accordingly. Also, your thumbnails look amazing compared to mine lol
Seeing Planchette’s design grow into what it is now so interesting! Like, you always had the silhouette basically the same, but you reworked her enough that her design is really cute and iconic 💕

First thing I did was split up my comic into different parts so I could work on the storyline of that part. It helps because then I didn't keep getting ideas jumbled up and confuse the heck out of me!
I want to start a comic, I'm trying to make the story consistent before starting drawing, thanks for this tips, I needed it ;) If someone wants to know what my comic is about... In a medieval kingdom, the king wants everyone to be "empty", with no attitude or personality, then he will be able to have 100% of control of everything Using dark magic, he builds a machine that should remove people's personalities. He decides to test on a 15 years old girl, who is a rebel and always get in trouble, because she doesn't accept the selfish way the king rules the kingdom. But the machine doesn't work as the expected. Instead of removing the girl's personality, it reverses it. Now she acts the complete opposite of what she was. Her best friend decided to end the king's plans by destroying the machine, but he can only do that using dark magic. So they both go on an adventure, looking for someone people used to say is a witch, to find out what they can do to help the citizens Sorry for my bad english, I'm brazilian and didn't use Google translator ._.
Bless your soul. I'm starting a web comic series on Deviant Art called SunBeat Halo soon and this helps so much. Here's what I have so far: Once upon a time, there was a planet called SunBeat Halo. There were creatures on the planet called Calpkins (Calp-kEns). Every day they went to work, school, and fought evil to defend their land. Until one day a peculiar Calpkin named SeaBell arrived. He was very different from normal Calpkins. He was a small mythical pony who had been born from the egg of a Sapphire. Because of that, he felt distant from people at a young age and wanted to find out who he was. Because of that, he went on a quest to find out what he really was and why he was so special. He meets up with a evil sorcerer named Broncos who keep trying to turn him against his belief until finally he beats him. Since that day, he met many new friends and lived in peace to many years. The End. There's still some stuff that I'm fixing, but the story skeleton helped a bunch. Thank you! 💙
I’m also formatting my pages in a way that I can possibly print them one day if I decide to! I make the dimensions in A5 size I believe, but scaled down so it’s not a massive file. What pixel dimensions are your pages?
But, that’s in inches, not pixels. The original commenter asked what pixel dimensions her pages are in. I still need to know the answer to this so I’m going to make a separate comment about it.
teddybearsouls 7 x 10.5 inches converts to 2100 x 3150 pixels. Once you have the measurements in one unit, you can use your art program to make the conversion!
Me: *watching videos about tips on how to start a comic knowing full well that I don't have the self-confidence and/or time management to actually start one* "This is fine."
Fun fact: the skeleton of the story haves an official name, it's called the "marvel" technique, there is where the company of marvel comics got it's name
I had a bunch of random ideas for the story of my characters with all their backstories and things. I had a big relationship in the backstory for two of the characters, making the general story odd and long. All the development was in the backstory, instead of the journey they would soon go through, and they were already in a more healthy state. I changed the relationship to happen during the main story to have it flow better and become shorter. Still the same story, but with unnecessary events that wouldn't even be seen except for vague character interactions or ''flashbacks"
This is so helpful for me! I have a comic idea for a wonderland story and it was so messy, I hadn't even started yet but now I have a notebook for planning my comic and writing down ideas and I have a page full of timelines in the story!
im making a comic I just started. I love the characters. and the story a stuff. but I struggle with the ideas of actually drawing the page and what the characters are going to say and stuff and this video really helped thank you ;>
Yess I'm so happy you made this! Thank you!I've been working on a comic for about a year now and none of the videos I've watched have helped me too much.
6:05 wow, were those some original concepts for Planchet? That's awesome! I would like to see a little video where you show us your concept art for your characters! Love your videos, I know you've been on a pretty long hiatus but, I'm glad your back. :3 !Keep posting!
Thank you for this ^-^ (I kinda had to watch this twice because I have a weak attention span and I wanted to really listen and learn from this but sometimes I got too distracted with the art in the background and the talking would go through one ear and out the other heheh) I've been wanting to start a comic with a few of my characters and I have a few scenes in my head that I want to be played out. But I hardly know where to begin! I guess I'll start with the story's skeleton as boring as in might start out to be. It's just really hard to get the motivation to do so. However it will become less frustrating now to plan out my story once I have a solid base :) I'm excited to finally get a base laid out so I'm not just walking in the dark anymore with no answers to my own questions!
Tbh I can't wait to make my comic! It's called "Val and Van", a story about two les girls who are roommates. Van is the all-nighter one, and Val is the loving, caring housewife-ish one. (uwu)
I’m doing a comic and participating in the Webtoon Contest! My comic is called “Mei’s War” and it’s about a girl forced to disguise as a man in an enemy country, posing as a warrior but serving as a spy. Then she has to decide where her honor lies, face treason and love... The setting is fictional but it’s inspired on China and other ancient cultures. I wish I could have help with flats or backgrounds specially, but I’m gonna work very hard! I really like videos like this, you did such a good job! 💕
Wow!! This advice was like it was meant for my issues personally lmao. Great advice, artwork clean as fuk, and calming voice with good background music. Solid video! Subbed.
My comic is just about a series of unrelated dreams that a girl has, thats literally it Its pretty much a hack cuz theres no real storyline or plot, there are only 2 main characters and ill just update whenever i want. This comic of mine is just a practice comic where i just lay out an idea that i have in every dream and practice on drawing characters, creatures and environments. I rlly just want to create ambiance in the comic in each chapter
This was really helpful considering I’m currently making a web comic, I hope that I can get to finishing it. You’ve been a big inspiration art wise for me!
I'm making a comic called "Cupcake and Bear" on Webtoons, which I started making for practice. I wanted to do a simple comic before I went on to doing more complex stories, and I wanted to do something short. Despite this, my comic has been going on for over a year and I think I'm only halfway done??? I knew comics took time, but I guess I still underestimated it! I also made a huge mistake by not planning my story more. I'm doing pretty good with my drafts while I'm going along, but daaanggg it's rough trying to get to the next plot point sometimes. Anyways, your videos about comics has actually really helped me! It's also a great source for inspiration. Thanks for all the advice!
This is super helpful! I'm starting my first comic called " Wayward Souls" right now, it's about an unlikely crew of adventurers who all team up to defeat the monster queen who was training monsters to destroy heroes and such, and they have to try and make peace with the monsters. :D
I thank you for inspiring me to start my comics(One is a fanstory, the other is in my own world), and the first one even has a second chapter that i'm working on(Something that my previous comics hadn't gotten close to), so thank you for making these videos. P.S. To anyone reading this, i wish you to have a nice day.
I'm not writing a comic, but I'm planning for writing a novel in the future, and when I'm finished with that, art and graphic novels of my characters. Very helpful.
My suggestion for the thumb nail just draw body skeletons of the characters in pose and the speech bubbles, if background objects interact with characters or vise versa rough sketch them too, only go into detail when you want to commit, this strategy has helped me out so much sense I struggle with erasing anything, also draw in red yellow or pink or any bright warm color, this help your brain to not think of the lines as permanent objects
I’m thinking of doing one, so here’s the story. So there’s this girl who is 16, in high school, and she’s shy. She talks to no one, no one talks to her, but people talk about her all the time, and she hears them whispering. She is secretly a superhero who fights off villains. Her superpowers, are that she can teleport, fly, and read minds. One day she meets this boy while she’s at her locker and he starts talking to her. She tries to get away from him but she keeps following her and trying to become her friend. She finally gets away from him but she enters her next class, and he’s sat right behind her in it. He’s the new kid in school, and he’s the most good looking boy in the school now. Everyone wants to be his friend, but he’s only focused on becoming friends with her. They become friends, and one day she can’t hide it from him anymore, and she tells him the secret, and it turn out he is a superhero as well. After they both find out, they get closer together and then start fighting the villains together. They get onto the news, but no one knows who they are. They also use their powers in everyday life. They teleport to places, read peoples minds that they don’t like, and fly around their city together. But everyone is still intrigued by him at school, people try to talk to him, but he just leaves. Everyone is jealous of her because she’s close to him, so they try and talk to her and “become friends” with her to get close to him. But she knows what’s going on and tricks them thinking they’re friends, and laughs with him together about it. And that’s pretty much it🤷♀️ I’m 13 btw.♥️
The only problem is it’s sounds generic, it’s needs to have a less “oMG Quirky girl” mc, you want your mc to be a mc, but not obviously the mc. Like they’re so “built different” that they can do this or are able to do what this person who is apparently super good cant. You want your mc to be different, but not overly different to the point they’re doing unrealistic things. (Like Mary Sues)
I've been listening to your videos for 2 hours straight last night and im listening to more of them right now as I do some geometry homework. I've always had a huge passion for art, but I figured I could never be abke to move into the career of arts considering AI art and how many slots are beinf taken away pretty much and how tough art school seems to be. Listening to your videos keeps me inspired and motivated, and I want to at least try to make it to art school now. I am planning what you mentioend in one of your videos where you talk about setting up a huge project for yourself and having a deadline along with people to critic your projects which i am hoping to succeed in a multitude of times. Thank you for being a huge inspiration for me, you have been one since I was a younger artist in middle school I think! (I am currently in 11th grade in highschool, junior year 🎉) and looking back at some of your videos really brings some motivation back.
I'm making a comic called "Lemon Town" and it goes through various characters throughout. A few chapters will focus on a characterand their story, and then it will move on to the next person in the town, so it's basically me compiling my characters into some short stories. Throughout the comic, old characters will start to reappear and interact with new ones as side characters. It'll be in the style of my pfp mostlikely :) ALSO PLEASE DONT STEAL I HAVE MAJOR TRUST ISSUES WHEN IT COMES TO SHARING MY IDEAS BECAUSE THEY ALWAYS GET STOLEN

SleepIsLife1 I guess professionals sort of get over their motivation issues because they have to, otherwise they don't get paid. So I guess money just becomes the motivation for them sometimes, while amateurs lose motivation entirely.
I think she meant the amatuer mistake was that they slow down and can't come back from missing and update or two while more experienced comic makers can miss and update and get right back on their feet

I literally have the opposite problem... I have stories in my head but can't draw them well enough to get across what I imagine so I'm taking forever trying to design my characters... (Sorry for my grammar lol)
I also recommend arcs!!! Comic arcs are when a comic story takes anywhere from 6 to whatever issues that have one cohesive storyline. That's how companies like Marvel never run out of comic issues
I have a personal comic called Hathead comics. It helped me get really good at drawing people and it's my favorite story in the world. I'm always thinking of new ways to make it better. But I'm way too nervous to show it to other people. It's all hand drawn on paper. So sometimes the drawings are in consistent. But this video helped me a lot even if it was posted in 2018. Thanks for the advise.
I am not sure where you are at in your artistic journey, but my two cents: The only way to improve is to practice, and don't be afraid of showing your work. Gotta get that out of your system. There will never be "perfect", otherwise you'll be revising forever until old age. And that's another thing, revising shouldn't be an endless cycle of erase and redos. Do it....and accept it. Do better next time. Obviously alot of art have stages: like thumbnails, to rough sketch, to outline, to inking, to colour- but don't actually keep revising the same thing over and over, or you'll cramp your creativity.

@SUZE MING LI Moe in one of her videos, she says that it's MUCH more important to not do that if the comic, or manga, in this case, is supposed to be taken seriously, which you and I can agree that in the case of TDLSK is not really serious lol
That's so true though. There's been times where the author just info dumped *cough* Horikoshi *cough* and I straight up just skipped the panel 😅

Can you do a "how to make good backgrounds" one? I have a hard time drawing scenary and stuff.
She made one around 1 or 2 years ago
There was a video she made where it was something alone the line of art cheats. One of the tips was tracing backgrounds from games but im not sure if this will help. Its more her words not mine.
IOB yeah she said you can make it in Sims and then use it as a guide
Check out BAM Animation on RUclips! Their video on perspective grids helped me improve my backgrounds immensely!
Just make your whole building or background in Minecraft
Then screenshot
Then trace and stylize it to make it as how you desire it to look (in your preferred art style✨)
like for example, the trees in Minecraft.
So relatable😭😭😭😭

Rest In Peace
Thought I still can do detailed artwork.
maybe you could do a do-this-not-that on outfit design!! that was always one of the hardest things for me to draw, when i was younger and i put extraneous lines all over the place because i had no idea how fashion worked or how to make outfits. like. look good
it'd also be nice if you could include some tips on how to make the outfit match your character's personality, what with colors and styles and things.
well, one of the best ways to make an outfit fit your character's personality is through shape language.

*When you want to write and draw a comic but you have no idea what it could be about*
Relatable 😔🤘
I recommend making a story that sends a message that you might’ve learned from life :)
Do it about something you love or have a strong interest in! Id suggest starting out by picking a genre first then go from there!
I know this is a comment from ages ago, but just in case this helps... You can force inspiration. Pick a topic that interests you. It could be a particular trope, or an animal, mythological beastie, just some guy you know, even yourself.
Then brainstorm it, where is it set? Who lives in this world?
The very basics of a story are:
1: who?
2: where?
3: problem
4: solution.
You could think up some problems randomly but a great way I have found is asking 'Why?'
Ask why are the characters like they are? Why is the world like it is? What do the characters most want and why do they want those things? (Or maybe they particularly don't want something that is about to happen to them, or be given to them, and why do they not want it?)
If you're still not sure, try researching things that interest you that will fit with your genre.

But I managed to hammer out a full script, and draw thumbnails for the first four pages (essentially the first scene) and set up all the digital templates for the page and went far enough to announce it to everyone I know on every social media to sort of make it so I HAVE to finish it-
So seeing this and realizing I am more or less doing the whole thing "right", as that's always a major worry. I think I may feel better about it now.
I know this is an old comment, but where can I find this comic?
So do I, @FictionAddiction. Very intense. Hard to overcome.
It helps because it kinda gives you anxiety of not being able to write enough so you try to write as much as you can
my favorite comic artist is the manga artist Sui Ishida, the artist who made and illustrated the Tokyo Ghoul manga. i never read the chapters that would correlate with season one because the anime was enough for me, and as i continued reading i looked back at the first page ever aND HOLY SHIT his style evolved so amazingly. at the start it was very clean and very simple manga style, but now (he ended it recently btw) the shading varies more, and this scratchiness in the lineart fits in perfectly with the story. even if you arent a manga reader id recommend just looking at the manga because its my favorite art style ever.
my fav is Eiichiro Oda (one piece) sounds rly narccisistic but he reminds me of me.
Nichirin Yes, it's definitely good advice to look at different comic styles, even if you aren't interested in reading them! Comics of a specific genre that you enjoy the most might have very similar styles, so looking at those that you necessarily wouldn't read can give you new ideas.
not evolved to where it completely changed, but evolved in the way of how fitting it is to the story, if that makes sense.
My favourite is Aoyoma Gosho,Masashi Kishimoto and Yoshimura Akemi also Tite Kubo
I love their art style 😊 (just sharing lol)

In a medieval kingdom, the king wants everyone to be "empty", with no attitude or personality, then he will be able to have 100% of control of everything
Using dark magic, he builds a machine that should remove people's personalities.
So they both go on an adventure, looking for someone people used to say is a witch, to find out what they can do to help the citizens

Bless your soul. I'm starting a web comic series on Deviant Art called SunBeat Halo soon and this helps so much. Here's what I have so far:
Once upon a time, there was a planet called SunBeat Halo. The End.

Oh Jeez are you serious? Really?!

(uwu)
Oh my god they were roommates :O
ARe you still working on this? I want to read it ?
I’m doing a comic and participating in the Webtoon Contest! My comic is called “Mei’s War” and it’s about a girl forced to disguise as a man in an enemy country, posing as a warrior but serving as a spy. Then she has to decide where her honor lies, face treason and love... The setting is fictional but it’s inspired on China and other ancient cultures. I wish I could have help with flats or backgrounds specially, but I’m gonna work very hard! I really like videos like this, you did such a good job! 💕
I FOUND IT!!!!!

Sounds like a better version of Mulan. I'm interested now lol
Seems like my everyday •_•

YESSSSSS, right on time! I just began planning the story and characters for a webcomic and this video is very helpful!!
leroy lawnmower SAME WHAT
Are you participating in the Webtoon contest or you just always wanted to make comics and you’re working on it now? :’)
M.G. Comics er, no, I'm just making one for fun.
Wow!!
This advice was like it was meant for my issues personally lmao.
Great advice, artwork clean as fuk, and calming voice with good background music.
Solid video! Subbed.
This was helpful! I'm a beginner at comics so this was really good!
Eureka Cupcake ikr, so helpful!
My comic is just about a series of unrelated dreams that a girl has, thats literally it
Its pretty much a hack cuz theres no real storyline or plot, there are only 2 main characters and ill just update whenever i want. This comic of mine is just a practice comic where i just lay out an idea that i have in every dream and practice on drawing characters, creatures and environments. I rlly just want to create ambiance in the comic in each chapter
There is literally an 80s anime with that exact premise, it's called dream hunter rem I believe.
Can I read it somewhere?
Id also like to read it
Give us a link pls op
... are you on the Gravity Falls amino? Cause I recognize your user name, but maybe it’s just a coincidence.
Wow this video is what I really needed right now since I'm developing a web comic with my friend right now
i made my comic completely beginning and I already have 2 pages out... Damn i want to do this. ahhhhh!!!!!!
Me and my bestfriend are working on a comic for years! Advice is always appreciated!
Do you have a link for it. I'm really interested!
I wanna read it
Love the drawings. Nice advice too. Thanks.

It's just a combination of letters and diacritics from the IPA and other writing systems. Not exactly a font.

As I’m starting my webcomic, I always come back to your videos to check that I’m going well!
I suffer from impatience which is why my characters fall in love to early!
Resulted in many scrapped stories ;-;
Bruh this sounds like a Mary sue
I'm sorry, my brain couldn't process all of that, BUT ATLEAST YOU HAVE AN ACTUAL STORYYY DXX
🤍🤍🤍
I'm making a comic called "Lemon Town" and it goes through various characters throughout.
A few chapters will focus on a characterand their story, and then it will move on to the next person in the town, so it's basically me compiling my characters into some short stories.
Throughout the comic, old characters will start to reappear and interact with new ones as side characters.
It'll be in the style of my pfp mostlikely :)
ALSO PLEASE DONT STEAL I HAVE MAJOR TRUST ISSUES WHEN IT COMES TO SHARING MY IDEAS BECAUSE THEY ALWAYS GET STOLEN
I was hesitant to write this because I don't want it stolen, don't take this concept bestie 🙏
Welllll.. I am super unorganized and am slow at drawing.
I'm kinda fast... I think :v
I'm slow too. I really wanna start a webtoon comic one day but I feel like it will take forever
@@eggsammich1186 go search for a partner, for example webtoon artists always have a partner who works with them, that makes it easy.
Thank you so much for taking the time to put real captions in your videos!
I'm making a comic about a kid and his best friends getting transported to another "world" I'm on chapter five (I'm also making it a novel, bc I was making it a novel, but I'm entering a comic book comp, so yeah) and this helped!
Ayeee! best of luck to you and your work :D

i love your style. i still dont know my style as im still new to art! but i definitely like drawing cartoons more
While I understand all these, is motivation problems really an *amateur* mistake? I mean even *pro manga artists* get motivation issues sometimes.
SleepIsLife1 Yeah kinda, 70% of the projects I do cause me to lose motivation, a lot of beginners just end up giving up entirely
Me: thinking about what would be my comic if I actually made it
RUclips recommendations: comics you say? Well I've got just the thing...
Im watching this while making my first character sheet for a character in my first comic and i am ECSTATIC. I finally have the motivation and the general skill and i have to credit you for a-LOT of my general art knowledge :)
I thought the thumbnail meant _amatuer artists vomit rainbows_
I was like *"Im not amatuer!"*
And I realize after watching the vid, it doesnt mean what I thought what I mean...
Sorry for being wierdd
Be weird you an artist.
I'd be more concerned if you weren't weird.
if vomiting rainbows means I’m an amateur, then IM A FRIGGING AMATEUR
I don’t draw comics, I just draw poses. I never finish my comics. I suck at story writing, that’s my problem.
I am sorry for I have sinned why does your name fit so well with this comment
I literally have the opposite problem... I have stories in my head but can't draw them well enough to get across what I imagine so I'm taking forever trying to design my characters... (Sorry for my grammar lol)
i mean there's always the option to collab with a writer who wants to make comics but can't draw for shit :D
If you want I can help you with story writing
I can't seem to finish what I start
I also recommend arcs!!! Comic arcs are when a comic story takes anywhere from 6 to whatever issues that have one cohesive storyline. That's how companies like Marvel never run out of comic issues
Thanks so much for making this!
@@justinhsu3762 thank you for listening and being helpful in your comment. People dont often give me good advice in the comment section, especially in my own.
@@spartist3895 No problem! I am a bit of a busybody that way, haha. Good luck, fellow artist.
@@justinhsu3762 thank you. You too.😊
I am currently trying to write a comic of my own. Stress and a large lack of motivation has kept me from writing it for a long time. I'm finally getting help for these issues and really, really want to work on this comic now. I have the story skeleton laid out, just gotta start work on it. I am so excited to start and will be using your tips on motivation to, hopefully, help me get it written. Hopefully one day I'll get to see it, along with others, in bookstores like the one I work in!
I like to write a complete script for my comics, that way editing the story is way easier then trying to figure it all out in drawings or sequences (:
