The sketch where Stephen's character talks about trying to end it all, is actually based on his real life experience. Very glad he's still here. The world is better with him in in it.
His output has been prodigious, not just in genius and quality but in sheer volume. His philosophical meandering homilies are a bit trite but , in his case a feature not a bug.
That Collie! R.I.P. Blanka, the most able dog I've ever met. She understood even us toddlers, and always kept the family "herd" on walks under close observation. So intelligent, such a great heart.
"People always mock things that they can't understand. That's why they mock John Major being Prime Minister. Nobody can understand how it happened." LOL!!
@4:18 Stephen once tried to kill himself in the garage with a car. He is manic depressive and talks about it in a documentary about hes manic depression. Strange yet uplifting to hear him joke about it like this
Deactivated On the other hand, this was recorded a few years before that suicide attempt, therefore it's very interesting, that he clearly had this way of ending a life in his head for long and when the terible low came upon him, he just acted accordingly... (Sorry for my English)
Veronika Polčíková He did not attempt in the end, just sat in the car ALL night and then ran away to Europe. Perhaps making this joke beforehand helped him to stay alive. I'm really glad he didn't complete suicide, and got help.
Also people had different style back in the day. I've seen some really old pictures, thinking the person in picture is 50 years old when in fact they've been 18 🤔 Same thing with old movies.
That's how we dressed in the 90s, honey. It just SEEMS old to you because all the people who wore clothes like that are actually in their 40s-50s now...
@SalutationToTheDawn - The series just shown at the same time, the episode that vox pop was from actually aired a matter of hours before his suicide attempt. Gives me cold shivers just thinking about it. :( Kayleigh
thepayne78 The UK branch was set up by the US company but sold off to be independent in the 80s. It was bought out in 2005 by another UK supermarket chain and their stores were rebranded as the buying company’s stores
Safeways continued to exist on the Channel Islands. Last year the company who owns them did a deal to finally bring Morrisons to the Channel Islands and they are now rebranded as Morrisons there.
Matthew Tiller it is! Trying to find out if they are in the (old) Janet Adegoke swimming pool or the (old) Brentford fountain leisure centre for the other sketches.

It's so true..sad to think what he was saying was actually the truth but glad he's alive and happy..he's a genius and wonderful ❤
I don’t pay my licence fee... BUT IF I DID
I love how they did that with the dog.
"A very stiff letter! On cardboard."
That was one scary woman.
Hugh Laurie's policeman dance is the best thing I've ever seen happen in public :)
That Collie!
R.I.P. Blanka, the most able dog I've ever met. She understood even us toddlers, and always kept the family "herd" on walks under close observation. So intelligent, such a great heart.
5:17
This is one hundred percent based on an actual encounter they had
It has to be
"People always mock things that they can't understand.
That's why they mock John Major being Prime Minister.
Nobody can understand how it happened."
LOL!!
Some things never change.
Talk about Trump
Imagine what they'd say about Boris Johnson 🤣
4:42 is the best sketch XD "I suppose this is what I pay my licence fee for, is it? To keep you lot in jeans and heroin!"
I love these 2 an unhealthy amount. So funny together and apart

Veronika Polčíková sorry for your English? That was perfect and much better than a LOT of English people!
rafer Jefferson iii Well, I don't know, really... But how very kind of you
@@RabbiHerschel Might want to try it yourself just to check
Hugh Laurie.. wenn he talks about the cling film... OMG those big baby blues :-xxx He is beyond adorable!
No, he isn not. He is a very naughty boy!
The photo booth one is a tiny work of genius.
I loved it when the dog came out of the hole. It was satirical, just heartwarming:)
He tried to tell his dad, but he was so adamant.
I love Hugh Laurie as the policeman, so brilliant, the pair of 'em!
"People are often mistaking me for Luther Vandross."
Stephen and Hugh are very tall for old ladies.
Klappi1 it's amazing
They're on the tall side even for young men.
Cat sick on the duvet is actually a pretty good description, for those who dont know what Andrew Neil looks like
Yes!
"People are often mistaking me for Luther Van Dross."
Brilliant
a dog with the loveliest laugh
God, they were so good. The mannerisms are exaggerated, but so well observed.
Some of the sketches and exceprts are so deep that you can't help but think their message well after the sketch itself ends.
The bit at 2:47 is pure genius. And SO RELATABLE. in any part of the world.
It's my personal favourite of these!
"Hm hm? Doing one of those repeats, I suppose are you? Filming more of those repeats?" I just love how arch and annoyed she is.
The "there's no room here" is basically every "PUBLIC FREAKOUT" compilation ever.
It's funny hearing Fry's different voices and then listening to the Harry Potter audiobooks
Two great comedic talents!
Hugh Laurie as a woman sounds exactly like Tom Huddleston
Thomas Alderson Well they did go to the same school
Hugh Laurie was close to breaking in the fourteen stitches bit 😂
Wonderfully hysterical, all the time.
You can tell from early on that they were going to be fantastic, I really miss them guys British comedy at it’s best
The one with the dog is absolute genius.
"People are often mistaking me for Luther Vandross"
I'm done, I am absolutely done! XD
I laughed so hard I cried at that bit. Best I've seen yet.
Sad to think that Hamper is again buried, by now. Life is so cruel. Lesson learnt, at a young age.
Jesus christ hugh was in his 20s in the 1980s. Why does he look 40.
Also people had different style back in the day. I've seen some really old pictures, thinking the person in picture is 50 years old when in fact they've been 18 🤔 Same thing with old movies.

All I can see when with Hugh Laurie's policeman is Samuel Vimes
danehb89 fry as Willikins
Not nearly scruffy enough to be Sam Vimes
@@margiewatson6081 Young Sam Vimes?
loved the walked into a store 14 stitches one
They both do great women!!
It seems to be a classic British comedy thing. I think it comes from Christmas pantomimes tradition.
@2:00 Is one of my favourite Stephen Fry lines ever!
I'm a capricorn and my boyfriends is an alcoholic... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻
That last line is gold!
I died when the dog came out of the hole😅🤣🤣🤣👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻
Thank you very much for the subtitles!
The is so much comedy gold here lmao
2:07 one of the most beatiful sceneries I ever saw.
this is brilliant
1:58 can't seem to find a flush or handle lol
Makes me want to KEK.
lovely! thanks a lot for the subtites.
1:54 is so funny. It's barely a few seconds long, but I find it so funny!
The dog thing... 😅. Great way to start this.
That suicide one from Stephen actually happened
He was going to attempt it not long after this show first aired but he didn't in the end
@MichaelKingsfordGray Yeah, it did.
This is gold
That is putting coppers back on the beat
5:50 I'm crying!!!
Stephen as the lady seems to have the best lines. except for Hugh as the angry lady.
@SalutationToTheDawn - The series just shown at the same time, the episode that vox pop was from actually aired a matter of hours before his suicide attempt. Gives me cold shivers just thinking about it. :(
Kayleigh
Comedy gold!
Safeway. There’s a blast from the past
Yeah no kidding that was our go to grocery store growing up.
They are still around but I never realized that they were actually in England as well.
thepayne78 The UK branch was set up by the US company but sold off to be independent in the 80s. It was bought out in 2005 by another UK supermarket chain and their stores were rebranded as the buying company’s stores
@@simonwest9450 Oh cool did not know that.
Safeways continued to exist on the Channel Islands. Last year the company who owns them did a deal to finally bring Morrisons to the Channel Islands and they are now rebranded as Morrisons there.
Safeway are back (sort of!). They have trucks supplying the McColls chain of convenience stores
The eerie thing about Fry's depression bit is that he WAS depressed and HAD tried to kill himself with a car. O.o
The dog!!
I’m a Capricorn and my boyfriend is an alcoholic hahahahah
"Makes me want to KECK!" Lol'd til I cried.
4:18 Always loved this one, amongst many others…
Was a bit shocked the skit was about the same way Fry considered killing himself.
SAFEWAY.... there's a blast from the past!
So much randomness... Could watch it for hours on end
Lmao hugh is a fucking legend
0:50 Now here he looks like he did in house the most I think lol
This is what an education in Cambridge combined with imagination and intelligence can produce.
...and a sense of social conscience.
what an ending.
Indeed, he did. There's a rather large documentary on the subject.
Awww wish they did comedy together again
God Lord! It's you!
Is that King’s Mall in Hammersmith? I can’t shake the feeling it is, but it was almost 40 years ago!
Are they in the (old) Janet Adegoke swimming pool or the (old) Brentford fountain leisure centre for some of these sketches?
Laurie was really intimidating in the scene in which they were together
Can't seem to find a flush, or a handle
OH MY GOD LOL
People often mistake me for Luther Vandross
‘To keep you lot in jeans... and heroin.’
3:56 no back, no sack and no crack
Is it just me or does Hugh Laurie make a strangely attractive woman?
Yeah, probably just me
Same
4:50 I think we've found Melanie Phillips' inspiration 🤣🤣🤣
I think Fry & Laurie invented the Karen.
@SalutationToTheDawn Yep, thank God for catalytic converters!! :-)
1:44 lol
perfect
3:44 😁
@smeesquatch that lady just wants her piece of fame :D
Does anyone know what the building is in the background at 0:56
I was intrigued too so did some googling, seems to be a set of offices called The Sanctuary right next to Westminster Abbey in London
Is that Kings Mall in Hammersmith?
Matthew Tiller it is! Trying to find out if they are in the (old) Janet Adegoke swimming pool or the (old) Brentford fountain leisure centre for the other sketches.
I miss my border collie. Her name was Sadie. She was 15 when she passed.
Hilarious!
Love movie London fallen
4:52 What having to work in customer service is like.
HAMPERS ALIVE
i think they rather liked getting dressed up as women.
I mean, Hugh Laurie looks fabulous as a woman...
i was hoping someone else would say it. he looks divine
1:31 where is Steven Fry standing? Anyone know the location?
4:32 sad thing is Fry did try to off himself that way.
4:42 is the best! XD
Funny that “conservative” was basically censored by the video 6:04
Can we just mention they pretty much invented the Karen.......
