Thank you for being concise. Most of us are watching this while rendering.
It works, WOW. Dude, you could have a whole class on Premiere Pro! Good Stuff Matt!

hey boss,,, try with AMD GPU to... like RX 580,,, most Nvidia GPU are support like u say but not for AMD... make some sample pls with RX 580 .
Last time only with cpu was about 22-25 minutes to export....
Now, with my RX 580 "working here" it's 8 minutes exporting...
Awesome...
Thanks Matt
This video was huge help. Had a 12 minute video export. For some reason, the count down was over 2 hours and only at 5%. After following these simple steps. My export is at 48% and only 3 minutes left. THANK YOU!
Thank you! For the past 5 years I had a 4th gen i7 with 16gb of ram with 2 a gig Nvidia graphics card that wasn't very good. It rendered most things in almost real time. But, if I was rendering a template with a lot of effects from AE, it just couldn't handle it most of the time. 2 week ago I got a new pc with an i9, 64gb of ram with a NVIDIA 2070 super. My render times have been horrible! Worse than my old my pc. I couldn't remember the settings I had. Before watching your video, I rendered 24 seconds game clip with basic 1080p twitter setting in premier pro and it took about 3 minutes. After watching your video, and switching to CUDA it rendered in seconds. I hit render, took a sip of coffee and it was done. Faster than real time. Thanks so much for your advice.
Don't know how you do it but I can't seem to do it with my new rig. New rig: i9 12900k, rtx 3080, 32gb ram 3600, SSD drive, water cooling. Old rig: ryzen 7 2700x, gtx 980ti, 32gb ram 3200, SSD drive, fan cooling. Still can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. This video didn't help either. Could have been the AMD vs Intel thing maybe, however the i9 should kill the ryzen 7 base on my calculation, but performance in rendering didn't support this theory tho.
(Update 6.8.2022: I installed and update the nvidia graphic card driver and all working fine now. Encoding that use to be 4 to 6 hours are now 1 hour. Loving this new i9 and rtx 3080 combo).
i have the same setup and had the issues constantly as well, my graphics card is not even being touched when rendering. The fact that you can't use it for VBR2 pass at all is also pretty sad, considering the price of premiere / adobe products in general. Honestly I just wanna leave this program... I would love to say it was great while it lasted, but this program just seems to be a problem child ever since I used it, and even with working around the little quirks, just new things pop up every other day and it's getting in the way of the creative process. It feels like Davinci Resolve is just becoming the better program in every aspect, and I'm sure as soon as theyre competitive enough in the other parts of the editing software, we can all finally abandon this dreadful program. Software that you pay for on a regular basis should be making our lives easier, not more difficult, the amounts of hours I've spent on workaround tutorials no longer justifiy using this program other than "I dpn't have the time to swap right now".
Thanks for this tutorial and all your previous tutorials. You inspired me to start video back in 2017.
Not working for amd ryzen 9 3900x 😔
yeahh same here. i am on ryzen 5 3500u. i only able to use hardware encoding only in HEVC(H.265), i cant choosing H.264 encoder.

Didn't seem to work for me too. I was encoding 6 hours video around 3 hours on version an older version 12. I updated to version 14.3 and follow direction to the tee and still encoding 6 hours videos around 3 hours. I'm running on Ryzen 2700x 16gb ram, gtx980ti.

@@erwinm.mutaqqin4559 In the same boat as these guys and Clearbox HD, i opened task manager during exports and GPU was not being put under load. I have a Ryzen 3700x and a gtx 1660 super, I enabled all the hardware encoding settings but when exporting neither media neither Adobe premiere pro and Adobe media encoder used the GPU to export faster. still tryna find out why, maybe I should re-install the adobe apps again 🤷🏾♂️
Hey matt !! does this work in Davinci Resolve ? If so can you do a quick tutorial? maybe?
hi Matt, while I really appreciate your help in this video, it would be great if you can fix your camera so it doesn't move up and down, thanks so much!
Thanks Matt!!! I have been down an insane rabbit hole this evening trying to figure out why PP will only export my video in 3 hours. This worked
I have a 1650 & I always did software encoding reasons why it took 40-1h per export & render, Now it takes only 10mins thanks a lot buddy
This was literally the only video that's been able to help me figure out my exporting problems. Thank you!!!
Thanks lol took a export I needed to get done from 6 hours to 30 minutes
Do you know why GPU encoding does not work for VBR2?
Dang, I was trying so hard to get hardware encoding work on my macbook pro, and I hear this is not going to work on mac...
H.264 won't work on RX550, so i choose HEVC (H.265) and it really speed things up! It went from 10 minutes down to less than 5 minutes! Thanks!
OS Catalina does indeed render quicker with GPU Acceleration (Metal) on iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015). Rendering out 1min piece the GPU option is 10seconds faster!
Thanks Matt. You rock. Curious to know why you opt for CBR? VBR not worthwhile when smaller filesizes & lower bitrates are desired?
And with Premiere Pro 14.5 (which was released a few days ago), GPU hardware decoding (not to be confused with Intel QuickSync) is now supported! So when you playback your H.264 footage it's smooth as butter now :) No more proxies.
Thanks! Just took a 2 hour render down to 15 minutes! Happy days!
Hellow Richard. Can you tell me your PC specs? Thanks!
Is it only for paid software or we can freely use it?
Dude my export times averages about 8 to 10 hours, and I’m watching this because it’s still at 11% for about 3 hours

You save me 1hr waiting my computer to render. Thank you
I'm glad they finally added this after I abandoned ship 2 years ago to Resolve for truly fast exports lol. Except not on Mac still 🙃
so Resolve is still my BFF.
Thanks Matt. Couldn't figure out why I was getting that error message until I saw in your video that I needed to not use VBR 2! Appreciate it!
I love how much further you went to help those in need, thanks brother
Great video. One difference you should make though. You should use VBR for you exports you will get much better results.
it is now available on the 14.3 update video cards for imac?? great video BTW
Hi Matt,
Thank you so much for this video. It did speed up the process of exporting them.
Is it possible to create proxies faster somehow using this new option of hardware encoding?
Thanks in advance
Thanks Matt !!!! It's always a pleasure to watch and learn from your knowledge :) Thanks for sharing. It will make all of us better and we'll go a leap behound with our creativity ! Appreciated. Take Care !
Cheers Matt, the only guy to say which version of Prem Pro, this only works in. Nice one, oh yes, and straight to the point also. great one. I guess I now need to update Prem.
Wish this was available for Mac! I'm currently exporting a 42 minute video 😬
i was looking for export settings, thanks to you i have it now :)
Earned a sub :) All the best !!!
Thanks! The VBR-2 screwed me over. This helped so much!
Thanks for doing this video, my settings were off an exporting was taking forever!!!!
Please does that mean that GPU acceleration for previous versions has never been working? 🤔
It has worked in the past but it worked differently and only partially utilized the gpu
@@whoismattOkay, thank you very much 🙏🏼😊
Thanks man! Helped a lot. I bought 1660 super but render was so slow. Now it's really fast. Pro cc is now using gpu for render.
Bro, this video here, helped me more than any other. You are a saint.
Does it support rx 580?
add a bit of noise suppresion to your mic/audio
Good video. However, at 7:32, do make sure that you restart the computer after changing these hardware encoding/decoding settings in Preferences, otherwise, they will not be saved.
Thanks, Matt! I love your style and how you present. Keep up the great work.
Thanks! This worked but only some times. For some reason it becomes slow or won't finish exporting despite having the right parameters like in the video.
I swear this was already a thing going as far back as 2012, at least for Nvidia cards using CUDA.
This is a superb explanation of the new gpu support. I've been wondering why 2-pass Bitrate Encoding doesn't allow gpu support, and this is the first video I've seen to touch on it and give a useful alternate method, since 1-pass encoding is decidedly inferior.
Hey Matt, what graphics card are you using for this video?
very detailed, just the information i needed thanks mate
Thank you, this took my render time from 2 hours down to 5 minutes. Don't think RG optimizes for CPU processing at all.
i cannot select hardware encoding in the rendering when i select it it tells me i dont have supported hardware
my specs atm are :
i7 8700
16gb (upgrading soon)
gtx 1070ti(also upgrading in a month or 2)
my board is a b365m from asrock
Great videos !! Thank You!
But in earlier video I noted that export for client would choose vbr 2 pass 40/60 mbps. When we chose 100mps cbr our clip will be very heavy. What is golden mean?
Dude!!!! Thank you for this! This dramatically sped up my exports.
Can u do a video on the color of the exported file being different then what you did in the edit.. like something to do with the lut?
Hi! I am trying to export a 360 degree 5.7K video with hardware acceleration. As soon as I go above 4K by export, it does not allow me to use HW acceleration. Any ideas what to do? Thanks
Thanks for the tutorial helped me a lot in the exporting issue 🙏
I just got a new pc what to choose for rendering cpu or gpu ???
GPU
Thank you very much!!! Your video was the best tutorial I fould on this and helped me bring a video export from 4:30 hours to just 25 minutes!!!
Tell us more, why intel quick sync not recommended? I use both iGPU and 1650super for exporting video, and mostly my iGPU getting more load than my 1650S
My iGPU full load and 1650S just getting 20% load
I use i5 10400
Is the quality affected when choosing either hardware or software encoding?
holy crap man I went from 1 hour to render to 7 mins thanks!
all time you are the best for any problem solving..great work man..respect and love for you
Hi Matt, Would a 5700XT or RTX 2070 do a faster render with this hardware encoding? And overall which card would you recommend considering the 5700XT is cheaper
You literally just helped me achieve what I've been trying to do since getting my pc. My 4 min vids that were taking 8 mins to export in 4k(idk if thats the best export settings, but whatever) just went down to 1 min.
Thank you for this video!
my last 4k 6min video was exported in 70min :)

Anyone know what settings I need for dual GPU setup? I have 2x 1080ti and i7 8700k .... Thanks :D
Thank you! This was very helpful.
Thanks !! no idea of much ....just went from 2 hours to 3 mins 51 secs!!
If you're using older Adobe Premiere CC, is that meaning there is no Hardware Encoding?
My version is CC 2017
It's normal a 15% usage of a Vega 56 while exporting with this method? Or there is something i need yo change?
Good vídeo a new sub. 👍🏻
Didn't Adobe already support this form of hardware encoding for intel quicksync capable integrated cards for a while?
My MBP when I choose CBR happens the same with VBR 2... doesn't allow hardware encoding. Anyone knows why? Thank you again Matt for this! Can you please make some more information for Mac Users? :) I will appreciate it, cheers!!!
have you fixed it?
@@nahuelbohe9201 No!
Would this option be faster to render than exporting with the 1080p rendering settings that you suggested us in your other video?
I tried to compare hardware and Software render. hardware render is ~25% faster. while render I look at the GPU workload and it didn't change
in Lightroom export GPU go crazy up to 80-90% workload. Should it be the same case in adobe PR ?
Thank you for this video! You made this process super simple. However, I have a interesting issue. If I'm exporting in Premiere Pro. Encoding settings is still grey stating "software encoding". If I hover over the message states," Hardware Encoding is unavailable. Please make sure this system meets hardware and minimum OS requirements for this functionality". However, If I select "queue". When I look at "Renderer". It allows me to select "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA)". And its processing the video in "lightning speed". I've tried everything you've mentioned in this video. My comp specs are: Intel(R) Core (TM) i3-8100 CPU @ 3.60GHz, 3600 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 32 GB of Ram, MSI GeForce GTX 1050ti.
Matti, mine says (Metal) - Recommended but also has the option for (OpenCL) which is better?
OpenCL is the one you should use if you have an AMD card
Matt, thank you a lot for all your videos! You have been very helpful! My best greetings from Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
On a Mac with AMD, it’ll also say Metal Graphics. Any difference?
Unfortunately no from what I’ve heard
Thanks for the info. Clicking the links for the presets, I'm taken to a blank page. No big deal, I'll just enter your settings manually.
That helped and you saved me a ton of time thank you!
Selecting Maximum Render Quality is only to be used when outputting to a different frame size from the original sequence. Why would you randomly select that?
You have helped me a great deal. Many thanks! Subbed.
2:00 That option isn't even listed there for me.
Maaan the CBR thing just saved my asse..... thanks dude 👌👌
EDIT: Correction from Matt see the comment reply.
EDIT: If someone knows a workaround to this please reply as I would love to leverage my whole system to export while editing and save myself some time.
Hey Kyle! In Premiere you can go to Edit > Preferences > Playback > and uncheck the "Pause Media Encoder queue during playback" box to keep Media Encoder working in the background. 😉
@@whoismatt Awesome thank you for the reply. That setting had escaped me.
Thaanks bro :) you saved my cpu temp

Thanks for your wonderful tutorial. I have a laptop Samsung series 7 chronos and there is two graphic card on my laptop one Nvidia Geforce GT 650M an Intel HD Graphics 4000. They are in the list you provided here and also I get error with graphic Card at the starting of the premiere pro 2020. Could you please tell me how to fix this issue. Is there any way to change the graphic Card? Thanks
After updating my premiere pro is not loading. Only work beta version and 14.0. Any solutions?
AMD 5500m still not available to use on Mac, great. BUT as much as I am more a premier pro fan, I have seen many people claiming Davinci Resolve is better and all that jazz. Could you make a video comparing the Pros and Cons between both programs? If possible, Thanks for everything EL Grand Matt
thx 4 this lesson, it was very helpful!
Be aware, I've tried CUDA encoding in the last few years in various video converter / video editor applications and the result was always worse than with "software encoding" (CPU).
I mean a lot worse picture quality in case of the same file size. You can see with your eyes easily.
I don't know it is still an issue with this PP implementation and the latest GPU drivers, but it worth to check before you start to use it for all your videos...
From all the test I’ve seen the quality is very similar to software encoding. I think adobe got it right
CPU intel or AMD??
Do you prefer buying rx 570 for video editing
1:44 doesn't show me anything can't choose...
i have 14.1 but i use rsmb and its very intensive so i turned on a setting in effect controls and it sade gpu setting mi did it and its a 25 min exportb and it used too be a 6 hour one with a ryzen 7 3700x
