You know, for games that have clever bosses, it's really unfortunate this list is a bunch of mini bosses and "it's too easy." You have actual bosses from all three games to choose from. Even if you love every single boss, there still has to be one that's worse than all the rest. A mini boss being easy to kill doesn't make it a bad mini boss. It means you have learned the game and know what to do in order to defeat it effectively. Disappointed in this list overall. An unscripted, unbalanced, unjustified list.
Landfill Gaming Again, 99% of the time it means you're a smart player who can quickly kill an enemy, or it's meant to offer variety. Mini-bosses aren't supposed to be as hard as regular bosses. So you brought an army of purple's into a fight with a mini boss. What did you think was going to happen? Mini bosses in Pikmin are essentially basic enemies themselves. Just with something that makes them stand out and possibly with a bit more health.
Yeah but the last placer was because they were so mighty before. It was put there out of disappointment. But I do agree a mini boss dosnt deserve to be on this list.
I know this is an old comment but I don't find the last one to be a miniboss, it is a boss at the end of a cave after all, they're considered bosses in the Piklopedia thing. Yes, perhaps you can spam purples on it but that's not learning how to defeat it, it's just an unbalanced fight. A lot of games usually have that thing where "this much damage has been done, now the boss can't lose health and you must evade its attacks". Also, a lot of enemies such as the Snagret and Emperor got nerfed to the point of dying in under a minute to new players that just don't care to understand strats and just want to kill it as fast as possible because it is an enemy. In no way a "boss" should be killed that fast in video games, they're supposed to be challenging. Even if you're experienced, killing a boss under 5 seconds is just unbalanced.

ohhhh myyy godddd I LOVE PIKMIN SO MUCH 14 years later and I still personally think that Pikmin 2 is the best video game. Yet to play something better. (At least better to men, anyway)
Yes especially because it moves so slowly on the chase but you just can't escape it. It feels like no matter what you do or how fast you think it will always be one step behind you
The Plasm Wraith kind of reminds me of Miracle Matter from Kirby because they both constantly change forms for different attacks and require specific abilities/pikmin
I can see where you are coming from. There are quite a number of bosses in many games like Plasm Wraith and Miracle Matter. Look up "Barrier Change Boss" for more info about them.
I don't recall him shitting on a boss for being "too hard" i dont think his problem with some of the bosses that are easy is that they're either boring or unsatisfying.
Personally, the Mamuta (ol' gray planty boi) is my favorite creature in Pikmin ever. He's such a friendly, adorable neighbor and just wants to plant your baby carrots so their heads will get pretty
Honestly in my opinion easy bosses are just fun, if you have maybe 100 reds or purples it's satisfying to... Watch it die... Pikmin's dark man, very dark
looking back at this video, it looks like you didnt fight the bosses correctly... for example, in the plasm wraith battle, you had to attack the gold splatters to make it smaller, not just to attack the elemental attacks. therefore, you experienced a longer battle simply because you were not attacking it to the full potential... im sure others have mentioned this before
When u use 'it's too easy' card for a reason y the boss is wrong, i was quite agitated. Bosses are supposed to be obstacles in the game rather than an intricate, drawn out fight as in other games. This is due to the day time schedule and such. If a boss took an extensive amount of time to kill, then it really eats at the time on the clock. Pikmin is more about management and such rather than intricate, difficult fights. That being said, the caves in Pikmin 2 was excellent because the timer disappeared allowing intricate, long boss fights to work well. It is probably why pikmin 2 is my favorite easily
But in pikmin the bosses are supposed to be tougher obstacles that take longer to deal with. The only reason people tolerate longer fights is because the difficulty makes it seem like a real battle. If its too easy it feels like its just a regular enemy fight that drags on for way too long and you don't feel like your fighting a significantly tougher enemy you just feel like your wasting time.
exactly what the prince said, that boss is different, as are most of the cave bosses. Because of the cave mechanics the bosses have no time limits and no longer act as obstacles so they can follow a completely different formatting. that being said I'm ADHD and have no patience for the final pikmin 2 boss and its crap ton of health, so thats just why i personally hate it.
Ok I got some genuine criticism of the video here. You sounded really unsure of yourself and it sounded like you didnt even have a script. It was glaring and obvious and I suggest using a script and only using the best takes from every line. Some music could also help. I tried to watch this video but it just bored me to tears. I hope you get this advice because you have a lot of potential. EDIT! I just noticed you had music, try using something from the game you're reviewing next time or just something that fits the mood of how you feel about the boss. The music makes me want to sleep.
I like at least 3 bosses on this list: Giant Breadbug: This one is just too funny and entertaining to dislike. And it litterly looks like a giant loaf of bread, classic. Smokey Progg: This boss is super eerie and mysteroius. From the bloody looking egg it hatches from, to it's ghostly apperance. It's also the only boss that targets the Onions. And I disagree about the reward being "too late in the game." This boss just has too many unique qualites to dislike. Goolix: I love this bosses apperance, it's basically a giant ameba. And for whatever reason I just love watery, bloby looking things. The fact that there's 2 ways of killing it is also neat.
The Smokey Progg is just a cheap punishment for being early. I know this because i usually go FAST and get to the distant spring on day 13 (then come back around day 18) and lose all of my pikmin because they casually get attacked by those stupid wollywogs so i save them, but while i save them the egg breaks open. The giant breadbug was hilarious because of the literal snort music and the fact that you had to take him to the ship to kill him instead of fighting him straight ahead (i mean you can, but it takes ages), apart from the food of course, and the Goolix is... weird. Very very weird.
I think the bosses really change if you enter with a mindset of keeping as many Pikmin alive as possible. When Pikmin become expendable and it's okay to win with just 1 alive then it really makes the bosses feel worse in most cases (IMO). Instead of being extra careful and wincing when even one Pikmin dies I could easily just keep throwing them at the boss till he dies and just leave the straggler Pikmin to get killed in the process (which happened a lot in this video).
The plasm wraith was much more interesting for what it does before, where it actually feels like you cant do anything at all against it and its actually mysterious. Plus the theories and stories are what made me fall in love with it.
I'm surprised that the Iridescent Flint Beetle, Candypop Buds, and water geysers weren't on this list. And didn't Goolix have three spots on this list? _These jokes are horrible. I'll see myself out._
I feel that it's criminal that you didn't talk about the Electric Cottonade. It's basically impossible to lose any Pikmin fighting it, its attacks are heavily telegraphed, and it just feels pathetic. Plus the Elongated Crushblat, a miniboss from a few levels earlier, is more imposing, more threatening, more mysterious, more resilient, and can kill Pikmin pretty easily, all while not even paying much attention to you.
I agree with all your comments on the Plasm Wraith, but those are the reasons I love it. The Waterwraith-esk segment before it is amazing, but this time, the wraith isn't helpless at the end. While extremely satisfying to see the Waterwraith running around scared without it's stones, something about the actual boss fight felt too easy to me.
With the giant Crawmad, I think the issue is how you just simply attack it from the front and how it's so vulnerable and doesn't do anything that hasn't been done or seen before. With the ones from the second game, you couldn't attack them while they're poking out of their burrow and had to get it out of it. It would only take one pikmin, but it also returns to its hole so quickly if it catches one. If you managed to dodge, it'd turn to head back instead of backing in, giving the player more time and better access to its weak point, rewarding them with it. And the crawmad that freaking barrels at you as a giant ball, that one was just extremely threatening ad tough to keep in a spot that's easy to dodge, especially when you first encounter it.
Yeah you are just bad at the game, and I like how besides the Hey Pikmin bosses it's all just "It's too hard for some reason so I don't like it" or "It's an easy miniboss, which is supposed to be easy, but it still sucks"

i love this excuse so much. if you need to be good at a game to enjoy its content at all that's not a good game. im not bad at pikmin 1 and even i can say that the bosses are fucking boring in that game. theyre just lengthy
I actually had no idea you were supposed to make the water ball boss from Impact Site attack itself. I always just thought it had a ridiculous amount of health and you had to wail on it for ages to finally beat it.
I don't get how the plasm wraith being diverse in attacks and really strong make it not feel like a boss. A formula? What? All battles require strategy. The fact it relies on all the elements is what makes it the best boss (mechanically).The job of a boss is to challenge you. It's a final boss, you SHOULD be tested on all the pikmins attributes. The problem is the plasm wraith uses all its powers equally well that it is too good at it's job. It's supposed to be hard but it is a bit too hard so you either enjoy the challenge it provides on all your skills, or frustrates you because you can't comprehend how to take it down effectively and it takes to long to overcome. The reason you actually hate the plasm wraith is because it's too hard for you. I do think it's eating attack is too fast and unforgiving.
I couldn't agree more with #1. Having PTSD from fighting it in Pikmin 1 that I never wanted to fight it in Pikmin 2, only to find out it's a massive push over in Pikmin 2
the plasm wraith shoudl have been focused on its shapeshifting thing, twisting tendrils or slimey hands, or fully shapeshifitng parts of other enemys and bosses to attack

I actually love the plasm wraith because of how overpowered it is. You say sacrifice, but I’d call it more of a war zone. Pikmin dropping left and right. It’s a stark contrast to the rest of the game which has you taking a methodical and slower approach to everything, even the other bosses. Sure, any pikmin 3 veteran will use a butt ton of rocks, but it’s more a thrill for the new player.
Yeah, the Pileated Snagret is a bastard; I hate fighting him with a passion. Anyway, good to have you back, lad! Have you considered making a video about Pikmin's presence in the next Smash Bros? Maybe you could talk about Alph's potential as a semiclone, for example.
The Plasm Wraith is probably my least favorite Boss in the Pikmin games honestly. I think what makes it so awful is that you're put through a huge gauntlet to rescue Olimar, with this unkillable blob chasing you. That part is unique and very interesting, but very poorly executed. Plus you can just bypass the whole thing simply by using an exploit (which is highly favorable since the gauntlet is unfun and tedious and makes you want to rip your hair out.) Then the second phase starts once you're outside, and the fight goes completely downhill. It's biggest flaw is the way the wraith uses the elemental attacks, just like Dazz said in the video. It's all so chaotic and disjointed, and you're literally punished with countless Pikmin deaths solely because of the fight being so sloppily put together. They tried to do something similar to the Titan Dweevil's boss fight, except they failed. The Titan Dweevil fight is infinitely better because it rewards you for understanding different Pikmin types, knowing when to run and when to fight, and punishes you only for being unaware of where your Pikmin are at all times. By comparison, the Plasm Wraith simply devours Pikmin regardless of where you are, flings elemental attacks all over the place, forces you to throw Pikmin at random, and punishes you for attacking its' golden blobs, despite that being the whole point of the fight. It's incredibly sloppy, and makes you throw caution to the wind, which seems to be a running theme in Pikmin 3 as a whole. The Bosses force you to randomly throw Pikmin every which way, and it's all just terribly designed. Pikmin 2 does exactly the opposite by making you think more and play more cautiously despite the lack of a true time limit. Pikmin 2 does everything better honestly, including bosses.
Actually Titan dweevil is unbalanced. Electric is the only instant kill attack it has so once you get yellow pikmin to destroy it you are relatively safe. Additionally yellow pikmin have an easier time getting on top of each weapon. Not to mention when it's on it's last weapon you can just fight with the pikmin that's immune to it, but the worst part of the last weapon is that it constantly spams the weapon and knocks pikmin off frequently. The fact the dweevils have no neutral attacks to kill pikmin without the elements makes it not very threatening. . Plasm wraith was done better. How can you say plasm wraith doesn't reward you for understanding the pikmin types? The whole battle is about countering it's elemental cubes with the correct types. Every cube you destroy gives you a large pool of gold to destroy, the trick is to distract the plasm wraith with rocks or another captain preferably as you go around and take out the gold before it goes back. If you are throwing Pikmin at random then you are playing the game wrong. The cubes are very clear on how to break and have very little health on their own. The only way you could be scattering pikmin is if you throw the wrong pikmin at the cubes, have rocks thrown back by the wraith, or leaving pikmin to attack small pools of gold and forgetting to look after them. Also you have the dodge whistle so it isn't impossible to get out of the way of his eating attack, and it isn't that threatening when you consider it has to stand still and only eats what is in front of him, just get behind him. It's an exaggeration to say he can eat you from anywhere. I will admit the biggest issues with the wraith is that it has far too much health leading to a long battle, and it is too unforgiving with it's eating attack. (I've done a no death run of this boss and succeeded) . But even with the evidence provided I still prefer the titan dweevil. It's a lot cooler in concept but I hate how flawed and unbalanced it is (to recap thats one insta-kill attack, no neutral attack, and gets progressively weaker with each weapon gone). The wraith uses all it's elements equally, but the problem is that it's too good at it's job and is too strong but also takes a little longer to beat than necessary. I notice people are split on their feelings of the plasm wraith. Either its a hard challenge that people admire, or it's a frustrating challenge due to the fact the player is not skilled enough to fight very well (most gamers are not skilled enough, as youtube proves).
Michael R You can literally just use all Rock Pikmin to avoid losing them to the wraith eating them. It's a longer battle that way, but reduces the number of casualties. Honestly, I actually like the insta kill version of the electric hazard. It's much more threatening to your troops, making the stakes that much higher. The dumbed down version of the electric hazard in Pikmin 3 is absolutely pointless. It knocks your non yellow Pikmin around and that's it. It's a complete joke of a hazard, and is only there to be a nuisance rather than a real hazard.
Pikmaniak yeah electric was really nerfed. There should at least be a insta kill variant of electricity. The only insta kill hazards are explosions and crushing (but rock pikmin though...) Hazards are more of a joke nowadays.
What I also hate about the plasm wraith fight is that.... it's just a huge damage sponge. As the battle is just you slowly and tediously chipping away at its health all the while the Wraith DEVOURS you pikmin by just spamming elemental attacks that can easily be taken out without any thought put into it, and that annoying grabbing attack at you. All of this to the point that the whole battle just doesn't feel... engaging anymore. But rather boring and tedious, as well as very frustratingly hard. Sure the same could be said about the Titan Dweevil. But the Titan Dweevil at least felt engaging in a way. As the attacks weren't just dumb glue traps that either can be easily taken out with no thought, or can annoyingly scatter your pikmin all over the arena and possibly kill most of them. No. They actually forced you to move away from the dweevil in order to dodge them. As well as the fact that they are much more harder to dodge as well. Making a more engaging fight. And I love it!! Wish the plasm wraith could've been that way.... And about the whole electricity thing. Here's what I think of it..... Do I wish electricity wouldn't instantly kill pikmin in the second game? ....yes Do I like how it doesnt do that in the third? ...yes Do I not like how it doesnt kill pikmin at all? ....yes K that's it..
@@michaelr3077 actually the water hazard of titan dweevil is in my opinion more dangerous then the electric one, simply because of its range. it litterally covers everything in water, so even if you had pikmin safe at the guyser they will still be able to be drowned, wich means that unless you took blue only to the titan dweevil you will be continuasly switching back and forth between captains wistling everywhere just trying to avoid your pikmin from drowning. compare this to the electric attack wich stays inside the circle so every non yellow that isnt in there will always be safe. also the fire and poison attacks can be dangerous because it can knock your captains down wich makes it impossible to call your pikmin, causing them to die just as much as with an instakill.
plasm wraith based on design alone is amazing, a hulking, molten-goldish, titan, so powerful that it was able to capture olimar who is well experienced with pikmin, and in the fight it makes some vaguely humanoid sounds yet heavily distorted enough to just give a sense of dread which isn't made better by the other sounds just being distorted water but god does the fight suck, simply because its a huge snoozefest, it just uses the same 3 attacks until it gets to a quarter of its hp, and then it starts flying and becomes even more vulnerable due to not being able to attack if you just swarm it with wingeds, its just either too easy for some people and too hard for the others.
Thought I’d revisit some of ur pikmin videos cause pikmin is awesome and I was always stuck in the plasma wraith thing and when I got to it I would restart my game and when you said you used all rocks I decided I would try and beat it with rock only and I did it but it’s probably cause if just got better at games but hey you kinda helped so thanks then
I disagree with the number one 1 worst boss in the list, because it is presenting the emperor bulblax as a younger version in my opinion, the first one we come across in the first Pikmin game that's like an adult, or fully matured version of the emperor bulblax, while the ones in Pikmin 2 with minor noticeable difference between the two shows that the smaller let down ones are in early ages, or just young.

Fixing the goolix: it becomes toxic or solid sometimes as a defense killing your pikmin, so it's more of a fight. But still you can only use blue pikmin
dude script and practice your videos, the whole thing was an awkward "err here's a vague description of moment to moment gameplay then, then, then, then .....uhhhh its bad uhhh its not fun". You can be much more deliberate and actually expand on your opinions without long stringed out descriptions of the fight and whiny inconclusive opinions if you actually write out and structure what the boss fight fundamentally is and what you think about them in clear logical steps and then practice that for recording the video, the video will be shorter but 10 times more engaging that way. -time traveler from 2019

You realize that the mamuta isn't meant to be a normal boss fight, right? It's not even meant to be bad, it's purpose is to turn all your pikmin to flowers.
I think the main reason why the Emperor fails to impress, is just how badly they nerfed him from 1 to 2. In Pikmin 2, many of the bosses were made easier, because they knew there would be tougher bosses to fight. Burrowing Snagrets basically become normal enemies, because you have the Pileated Snagret to deal with instead. Makes sense in theory... In Pikmin 1, the Emperor was designed to be the final challenge. You need loads of Red Pikmin to deal effective damage to the beast, and a group of Yellows to effectively make it vulnerable. There was strategy involved, with making him eat the bomb rocks to stun himself, and open the door for your Reds to attack. And there was even high risk; with his massive jump attack, that could be very difficult to avoid, and could deal half of Olimar's health; 2 hits, and you could be knocked out, and lose ALL your Pikmin. It added tension to the situation. Pikmin 2 has none of this, because not only did they massively neuter his HP, but they also made his defense basically non-existent. Purple Pikmin maybe broken, but it's perfectly easy to take on an Emperor with Yellow Pikmin (Arguably the worst colour for regular combat); and still easily kill the Emperors in Pikmin 2 with no deaths. Spicy Sprays make this even worse; since the Emperor's non-existent defense; really shows when you spicy spray, and just watch them vanish. Again, in theory... I can kinda see why they did this. The original boss took a lot of effort to beat, and if you're expected to fight multiple of them at once, you can't expect a player to effectively juggle 3 of them at once; with buttloads of health, and the ability to wake each other up. That would be masochistic, and unfair to the player. But the fact they often make you fight them in water (Restricted to Blues only), seems like it was done deliberately to add fake difficult to the encounter. As the ones you fight on land, are dead so fast, you don't even care. The challenge of the first game, was what made us like the boss; he made you think, and strategize... and I get not having them jump in a submerged cave Underground, but you could've given him a new trick to make up for it. Like having him dive underground; and then emerge to knock Pikmin over.

The mamuta's point is that when it hits pikmin into the ground he flowers them. It's more of a way to flower up all your pikmin without finding nectar

looking back at this video, it looks like you didnt fight the bosses correctly... for example, in the plasm wraith battle, you had to attack the gold splatters to make it smaller, not just to attack the elemental attacks. therefore, you experienced a longer battle simply because you were not attacking it to the full potential... im sure others have mentioned this before

When u use 'it's too easy' card for a reason y the boss is wrong, i was quite agitated. Bosses are supposed to be obstacles in the game rather than an intricate, drawn out fight as in other games. This is due to the day time schedule and such. If a boss took an extensive amount of time to kill, then it really eats at the time on the clock. Pikmin is more about management and such rather than intricate, difficult fights. That being said, the caves in Pikmin 2 was excellent because the timer disappeared allowing intricate, long boss fights to work well. It is probably why pikmin 2 is my favorite easily
Prince of Hyrule Pikmin 2 has a lot of filler bosses. The emperor bublax was also hilariously horrible and weak.
But in pikmin the bosses are supposed to be tougher obstacles that take longer to deal with. The only reason people tolerate longer fights is because the difficulty makes it seem like a real battle. If its too easy it feels like its just a regular enemy fight that drags on for way too long and you don't feel like your fighting a significantly tougher enemy you just feel like your wasting time.

exactly what the prince said, that boss is different, as are most of the cave bosses. Because of the cave mechanics the bosses have no time limits and no longer act as obstacles so they can follow a completely different formatting. that being said I'm ADHD and have no patience for the final pikmin 2 boss and its crap ton of health, so thats just why i personally hate it.

You sounded really unsure of yourself and it sounded like you didnt even have a script. It was glaring and obvious and I suggest using a script and only using the best takes from every line. Some music could also help. I tried to watch this video but it just bored me to tears. I hope you get this advice because you have a lot of potential.
EDIT! I just noticed you had music, try using something from the game you're reviewing next time or just something that fits the mood of how you feel about the boss. The music makes me want to sleep.

I like at least 3 bosses on this list:
Giant Breadbug: This one is just too funny and entertaining to dislike. And it litterly looks like a giant loaf of bread, classic.
Smokey Progg: This boss is super eerie and mysteroius. From the bloody looking egg it hatches from, to it's ghostly apperance. It's also the only boss that targets the Onions. And I disagree about the reward being "too late in the game." This boss just has too many unique qualites to dislike.
Goolix: I love this bosses apperance, it's basically a giant ameba. And for whatever reason I just love watery, bloby looking things. The fact that there's 2 ways of killing it is also neat.

The Smokey Progg is just a cheap punishment for being early. I know this because i usually go FAST and get to the distant spring on day 13 (then come back around day 18) and lose all of my pikmin because they casually get attacked by those stupid wollywogs so i save them, but while i save them the egg breaks open. The giant breadbug was hilarious because of the literal snort music and the fact that you had to take him to the ship to kill him instead of fighting him straight ahead (i mean you can, but it takes ages), apart from the food of course, and the Goolix is... weird. Very very weird.

I think the bosses really change if you enter with a mindset of keeping as many Pikmin alive as possible. When Pikmin become expendable and it's okay to win with just 1 alive then it really makes the bosses feel worse in most cases (IMO). Instead of being extra careful and wincing when even one Pikmin dies I could easily just keep throwing them at the boss till he dies and just leave the straggler Pikmin to get killed in the process (which happened a lot in this video).

The plasm wraith was much more interesting for what it does before, where it actually feels like you cant do anything at all against it and its actually mysterious. Plus the theories and stories are what made me fall in love with it.
I actually like the wraith concept as a final boss in pikmin. Pretty original and in every pikmin game ive expected to fight a human as a final boss

I feel that it's criminal that you didn't talk about the Electric Cottonade. It's basically impossible to lose any Pikmin fighting it, its attacks are heavily telegraphed, and it just feels pathetic.
Plus the Elongated Crushblat, a miniboss from a few levels earlier, is more imposing, more threatening, more mysterious, more resilient, and can kill Pikmin pretty easily, all while not even paying much attention to you.
In my opinion the crushblat isn't a mini boss..

I agree with all your comments on the Plasm Wraith, but those are the reasons I love it. The Waterwraith-esk segment before it is amazing, but this time, the wraith isn't helpless at the end. While extremely satisfying to see the Waterwraith running around scared without it's stones, something about the actual boss fight felt too easy to me.

With the giant Crawmad, I think the issue is how you just simply attack it from the front and how it's so vulnerable and doesn't do anything that hasn't been done or seen before. With the ones from the second game, you couldn't attack them while they're poking out of their burrow and had to get it out of it. It would only take one pikmin, but it also returns to its hole so quickly if it catches one. If you managed to dodge, it'd turn to head back instead of backing in, giving the player more time and better access to its weak point, rewarding them with it. And the crawmad that freaking barrels at you as a giant ball, that one was just extremely threatening ad tough to keep in a spot that's easy to dodge, especially when you first encounter it.

I don't get how the plasm wraith being diverse in attacks and really strong make it not feel like a boss. A formula? What? All battles require strategy. The fact it relies on all the elements is what makes it the best boss (mechanically).The job of a boss is to challenge you. It's a final boss, you SHOULD be tested on all the pikmins attributes. The problem is the plasm wraith uses all its powers equally well that it is too good at it's job. It's supposed to be hard but it is a bit too hard so you either enjoy the challenge it provides on all your skills, or frustrates you because you can't comprehend how to take it down effectively and it takes to long to overcome.
The reason you actually hate the plasm wraith is because it's too hard for you. I do think it's eating attack is too fast and unforgiving.
Pikmin has always been an amazing game with beautiful maps and relaxing soundtracks.

The thing that bothers me the most is how in Hey Pikmin the Rock Pikmin boss attacks by crushing things.... they're ROCK PIKMIN, they're not supposed to be crushable! :U
I actually love the plasm wraith because of how overpowered it is. You say sacrifice, but I’d call it more of a war zone. Pikmin dropping left and right. It’s a stark contrast to the rest of the game which has you taking a methodical and slower approach to everything, even the other bosses. Sure, any pikmin 3 veteran will use a butt ton of rocks, but it’s more a thrill for the new player.

The Plasm Wraith is probably my least favorite Boss in the Pikmin games honestly.
I think what makes it so awful is that you're put through a huge gauntlet to rescue Olimar, with this unkillable blob chasing you. That part is unique and very interesting, but very poorly executed. Plus you can just bypass the whole thing simply by using an exploit (which is highly favorable since the gauntlet is unfun and tedious and makes you want to rip your hair out.) Then the second phase starts once you're outside, and the fight goes completely downhill. It's biggest flaw is the way the wraith uses the elemental attacks, just like Dazz said in the video. It's all so chaotic and disjointed, and you're literally punished with countless Pikmin deaths solely because of the fight being so sloppily put together. They tried to do something similar to the Titan Dweevil's boss fight, except they failed. The Titan Dweevil fight is infinitely better because it rewards you for understanding different Pikmin types, knowing when to run and when to fight, and punishes you only for being unaware of where your Pikmin are at all times.
By comparison, the Plasm Wraith simply devours Pikmin regardless of where you are, flings elemental attacks all over the place, forces you to throw Pikmin at random, and punishes you for attacking its' golden blobs, despite that being the whole point of the fight. It's incredibly sloppy, and makes you throw caution to the wind, which seems to be a running theme in Pikmin 3 as a whole. The Bosses force you to randomly throw Pikmin every which way, and it's all just terribly designed. Pikmin 2 does exactly the opposite by making you think more and play more cautiously despite the lack of a true time limit.
Pikmin 2 does everything better honestly, including bosses.
Actually Titan dweevil is unbalanced. Electric is the only instant kill attack it has so once you get yellow pikmin to destroy it you are relatively safe. Additionally yellow pikmin have an easier time getting on top of each weapon. Not to mention when it's on it's last weapon you can just fight with the pikmin that's immune to it, but the worst part of the last weapon is that it constantly spams the weapon and knocks pikmin off frequently. The fact the dweevils have no neutral attacks to kill pikmin without the elements makes it not very threatening.

Plasm wraith was done better. How can you say plasm wraith doesn't reward you for understanding the pikmin types? The whole battle is about countering it's elemental cubes with the correct types. Every cube you destroy gives you a large pool of gold to destroy, the trick is to distract the plasm wraith with rocks or another captain preferably as you go around and take out the gold before it goes back. If you are throwing Pikmin at random then you are playing the game wrong. The cubes are very clear on how to break and have very little health on their own. The only way you could be scattering pikmin is if you throw the wrong pikmin at the cubes, have rocks thrown back by the wraith, or leaving pikmin to attack small pools of gold and forgetting to look after them. Also you have the dodge whistle so it isn't impossible to get out of the way of his eating attack, and it isn't that threatening when you consider it has to stand still and only eats what is in front of him, just get behind him. It's an exaggeration to say he can eat you from anywhere.
I will admit the biggest issues with the wraith is that it has far too much health leading to a long battle, and it is too unforgiving with it's eating attack.

But even with the evidence provided I still prefer the titan dweevil. It's a lot cooler in concept but I hate how flawed and unbalanced it is (to recap thats one insta-kill attack, no neutral attack, and gets progressively weaker with each weapon gone). The wraith uses all it's elements equally, but the problem is that it's too good at it's job and is too strong but also takes a little longer to beat than necessary.
I notice people are split on their feelings of the plasm wraith. Either its a hard challenge that people admire, or it's a frustrating challenge due to the fact the player is not skilled enough to fight very well (most gamers are not skilled enough, as youtube proves).

You can literally just use all Rock Pikmin to avoid losing them to the wraith eating them. It's a longer battle that way, but reduces the number of casualties.
Honestly, I actually like the insta kill version of the electric hazard. It's much more threatening to your troops, making the stakes that much higher. The dumbed down version of the electric hazard in Pikmin 3 is absolutely pointless. It knocks your non yellow Pikmin around and that's it. It's a complete joke of a hazard, and is only there to be a nuisance rather than a real hazard.
Pikmaniak yeah electric was really nerfed. There should at least be a insta kill variant of electricity. The only insta kill hazards are explosions and crushing (but rock pikmin though...) Hazards are more of a joke nowadays.
What I also hate about the plasm wraith fight is that.... it's just a huge damage sponge. As the battle is just you slowly and tediously chipping away at its health all the while the Wraith DEVOURS you pikmin by just spamming elemental attacks that can easily be taken out without any thought put into it, and that annoying grabbing attack at you. All of this to the point that the whole battle just doesn't feel... engaging anymore. But rather boring and tedious, as well as very frustratingly hard. Sure the same could be said about the Titan Dweevil. But the Titan Dweevil at least felt engaging in a way. As the attacks weren't just dumb glue traps that either can be easily taken out with no thought, or can annoyingly scatter your pikmin all over the arena and possibly kill most of them. No. They actually forced you to move away from the dweevil in order to dodge them. As well as the fact that they are much more harder to dodge as well. Making a more engaging fight. And I love it!! Wish the plasm wraith could've been that way....
And about the whole electricity thing. Here's what I think of it.....

@@michaelr3077 actually the water hazard of titan dweevil is in my opinion more dangerous then the electric one, simply because of its range. it litterally covers everything in water, so even if you had pikmin safe at the guyser they will still be able to be drowned, wich means that unless you took blue only to the titan dweevil you will be continuasly switching back and forth between captains wistling everywhere just trying to avoid your pikmin from drowning. compare this to the electric attack wich stays inside the circle so every non yellow that isnt in there will always be safe. also the fire and poison attacks can be dangerous because it can knock your captains down wich makes it impossible to call your pikmin, causing them to die just as much as with an instakill.
plasm wraith based on design alone is amazing, a hulking, molten-goldish, titan, so powerful that it was able to capture olimar who is well experienced with pikmin, and in the fight it makes some vaguely humanoid sounds yet heavily distorted enough to just give a sense of dread which isn't made better by the other sounds just being distorted water
but god does the fight suck, simply because its a huge snoozefest, it just uses the same 3 attacks until it gets to a quarter of its hp, and then it starts flying and becomes even more vulnerable due to not being able to attack if you just swarm it with wingeds, its just either too easy for some people and too hard for the others.
Thought I’d revisit some of ur pikmin videos cause pikmin is awesome and I was always stuck in the plasma wraith thing and when I got to it I would restart my game and when you said you used all rocks I decided I would try and beat it with rock only and I did it but it’s probably cause if just got better at games but hey you kinda helped so thanks then

I disagree with the number one 1 worst boss in the list, because it is presenting the emperor bulblax as a younger version in my opinion, the first one we come across in the first Pikmin game that's like an adult, or fully matured version of the emperor bulblax, while the ones in Pikmin 2 with minor noticeable difference between the two shows that the smaller let down ones are in early ages, or just young.
There is no visual difference in the Pikmin 2 Bulblax other than its size. Plus, its apparently still called *Emperor* Bulblax.

dude script and practice your videos, the whole thing was an awkward "err here's a vague description of moment to moment gameplay then, then, then, then .....uhhhh its bad uhhh its not fun". You can be much more deliberate and actually expand on your opinions without long stringed out descriptions of the fight and whiny inconclusive opinions if you actually write out and structure what the boss fight fundamentally is and what you think about them in clear logical steps and then practice that for recording the video, the video will be shorter but 10 times more engaging that way.

I think the main reason why the Emperor fails to impress, is just how badly they nerfed him from 1 to 2.
In Pikmin 2, many of the bosses were made easier, because they knew there would be tougher bosses to fight. Burrowing Snagrets basically become normal enemies, because you have the Pileated Snagret to deal with instead. Makes sense in theory...
In Pikmin 1, the Emperor was designed to be the final challenge. You need loads of Red Pikmin to deal effective damage to the beast, and a group of Yellows to effectively make it vulnerable. There was strategy involved, with making him eat the bomb rocks to stun himself, and open the door for your Reds to attack. And there was even high risk; with his massive jump attack, that could be very difficult to avoid, and could deal half of Olimar's health; 2 hits, and you could be knocked out, and lose ALL your Pikmin. It added tension to the situation.
Pikmin 2 has none of this, because not only did they massively neuter his HP, but they also made his defense basically non-existent. Purple Pikmin maybe broken, but it's perfectly easy to take on an Emperor with Yellow Pikmin (Arguably the worst colour for regular combat); and still easily kill the Emperors in Pikmin 2 with no deaths. Spicy Sprays make this even worse; since the Emperor's non-existent defense; really shows when you spicy spray, and just watch them vanish.
Again, in theory... I can kinda see why they did this. The original boss took a lot of effort to beat, and if you're expected to fight multiple of them at once, you can't expect a player to effectively juggle 3 of them at once; with buttloads of health, and the ability to wake each other up. That would be masochistic, and unfair to the player. But the fact they often make you fight them in water (Restricted to Blues only), seems like it was done deliberately to add fake difficult to the encounter. As the ones you fight on land, are dead so fast, you don't even care. The challenge of the first game, was what made us like the boss; he made you think, and strategize... and I get not having them jump in a submerged cave Underground, but you could've given him a new trick to make up for it. Like having him dive underground; and then emerge to knock Pikmin over.
