Truth is, it's above average
and definetly watchable.
But not epic, like the other movie.
I watched the first movie and then the second one
and the difference is clear.
The first one had plot holes,
but it was great.
It should have been deeper,
and people even expected something deep
from the Title of the movie - many thought
it would actually be explained why
the Universe is always against Candice and
why stuff repeats itself so much.
They thought another cool LAYER would
be arriving, but nope.
I feel like I'm the only one (edit: good to see I'm not and am confirmed to not be crazy, haha) who liked that Perry spent so much time in the movie not interacting with Doofenschmirtz. Perry as a character has basically been defined by his interactions with Doofenschmirtz and I find that suffocating for the character, so it was nice to see him actually do something on his own for the majority of the movie. It wasn't an absolutely crucial part, but it was a welcome one.
I thought it was so cool that he was getting assigned a mission that wasn’t essentially “stop Doof”.
I agree, Perry deserves more time on his own, which is why I like the opening of sidetracked so much

I agree wholeheartedly, when rewatching the show I skipped a ton of the fights of D and P just because it was way too much and felt the same.
Ironically even though it wasn't directly in the spotlight, Perry's contributions were quite literally CRUCIAL because there are a lot of times where things would have gone terribly wrong if Perry had not intervened.
I'm surprised Perry and Doofenschmirtz didn't get a whole movie to themselves, considering they're the most popular characters.

The problems you pointed out in this film - like the obvious animation - do bring it down a bit for me but I absolutely loved watching this. It really felt like the show never left, and if movies are this show’s future, then I can live with that.
But it’s so unnecessary to keep making more and more movies. The show ended. Milo Murphy’s Law was a great sequel and deserves a season 3. But instead they’re making these movies that really aren’t needed. I’d be fine with continuing the franchise, just not with Phineas and Ferb as the main characters. Their story is over, they should let someone else take the spot light now.

@@MiloMurphysLaw I wouldn't go as far as to say that Phineas and Ferb's story is over since the show still has some unanswered questions. I wouldn't mind more movies is what we get is still great and answer those questions.
And to be perfectly honest, if the movies are in the same quality as Candace Against the Universe is, then I'm all for it.

Phineas and Ferb is one of those shows that made up our childhood yet is still fondly remembered today. This movie is a part of that.

My theory about Ferb talking more than usual is probably because of him having a new voice actor. Since Sangster was famous it probably coasted more to pay him but since no one knows this new guy they didn't have to pay as much
Thomas Brodie Sangster was busy with other commitments, hence why David Errigo Jr reprised the role from Milo Murphy's Law.

Though David Errigo Jr is still solid, just like how he was in Milo Murphy's Law.
I didn’t realize that Ferb was voiced by someone else in this movie until Nicktendo pointed it out. Normally I can tell you who is voicing a character, voice acting is my dream job and I love playing what I call spot the voice actor. Although, I didn’t watch any of the show just before watching the movie, so I didn’t get to side-by-side it. If I did, I’d probably realize it was different

With there being a Candace movie now, it gives me hope for a Doofenshmirtz movie someday. The OWCA Files was close, but I think it’d work better in a movie like this instead of as a back door pilot.
After finishing the video, I appreciate you calling out Snipple! They must have like, not gotten notes about the lineart thickness. Synergy's work is perfect and Yearim is a nice balance, though they often end up drawing eyelashes WAAAY too thick

I don’t think you quite understand the mastery and cultural impact that “Chop Away at my Heart” has on the viewers’ of existence. The mere inclusion of this song, however long it was, made me love the movie even more, because it shows that the creators obviously haven’t forgotten about MML, unlike a lot of other people
For me, I always appreciated the "rough around the edges look" for Phineas and Ferb, so I liked how this movie went back to that. However, I can see your point about how the later Phineas and Ferb episodes looked more "polished". Great review!

The animation never really bothered me in any way during the beginning of the movie, as it’s setup fully encapsulates the premise it was tasked with outputting it. It’s an absolute masterpiece for something we’ve been begging for for years

It’s a good Phineas and Ferb special. I don’t know if it’s big enough to warrant its own movie, especially after the amazing first movie. But it’s more Phineas and Ferb, which is always good.
Tbh I think ATSD was so amazing that it'll be hard for them to ever top, no matter how many movies they make. But I think 24 Frames of Nick pointed that out well in his own video about CATU
I liked this movie, but I watched it only about 4 days after I first watched act your age, I noticed how little Isabella and phineas interact. She never obsessed over him once, and they never really talked to much to each other. I know it's a movie mostly about Candice, but I think at least one scene, or small background details would have done enough, and i probably noticed it wayyyyy more than anyone else did
The canoe Gag is the best gag in the movie change my mind.

Actually, I think that the episode where Buford and Doofenshmirtz meet is canon, since all the episodes don't happen chronologically, it could have been early on in the summer so frankly they could have forgotten.

Edit: Oh and I have no idea why everyone thinks their minds were erased of the event like Across the 2nd Dimension, the characters don't really look like they suspect anything. They just kinda look at each other puzzled.

Cried for the first time in a LONG time watching this movie’s emotional moment. Give this crew a 90-minute runtime, and the give you ART.
Fun fact, I grew up watching Phineas and ferb, but until earlier this year when I started rewatching the show, I didn’t know that ferb was their step brother.

I agree with most of this, nothing to add. Except that I support your headcanon.
This movie was spectacular. It did things the series couldn’t. It gave us real focus on Candace and a chance to understand her motives and why she wants to bust her brothers. The Snipple animation and some questionable repetitive gags can be forgiven when you really dive into the story and the overall deep dive into Candace and why she is the way she is and why what Phineas, Ferb and Linda do on the daily every summer damages her more and more. I’ve got nothing but respect for this whole movie. From a creative standpoint Candace, Doofenshmirtz and Perry make the whole franchise. They are the 3 most crucial to the story. Major props to Dan and Jeff for this masterpiece.
Favorite gag from the film: buford's canoe.
My favorite musical part of this movie is admittedly when Perry saves the group with his two grappling hooks while the radio tower falls. That orchestral epic take on his theme should be used more often.

One of the things I love about the show is its positive vibe, and the movie definitely provides in that aspect. But yeah, I think even casual viewers can notice how inconsistent the animation is.
I was about to complain about the seemingly random thumbnail but then those few 25 seconds clarified everything. Thanks last 25 seconds.
I feel they didn't use their Tiffany Haddish very well lol. I love her voice.
My favourite gag in the entire movie was the Axe-inator. Complete with self destruct button.
Something I would have liked to see in the movie is Venessa finds out Perry is the pet of Candace, Phineas, and Ferb. And then she has to try help Perry to help them, without any of them finding out he's an agent
since this takes place in the same summer as the show, the buford and doof thing probably hasn't happened yet.
I love this show, and would love to watch this movie, but since I still live with my parents and have no job I can't get a Disney Plus subscription, I just hope it gets a DVD release.

My miff about this is the fact Vanessa and Ferb didn't interact at all when in the past they always gravitated towards each other. Yes, it's nice that other characters interacted, but it just felt weird. *Shrugs* other than that, love it.
I've been a fan of Phineas and Ferb for years, and I loved this movie. It might be because of nostalgia, but I didn't really see a lot of things wrong with the movie. The songs were fun and upbeat, the new characters were interesting, and some of the smaller moments between characters make me laugh out loud.
I really agree about the inconsistency in animation. It was really jarring to me.
It was only in the first ten to fifteen minutes, and little by little the animation becomes finer and everything else that represents the majority of the movie
I love Phineas and Ferb one of my favourite cartoons growing up.

This is a very good take. While I know that reception is generally mixed between fans (With some feeling it was a worthy continuation of the series, while some feeling it didn't live up to their expectations), I liked it, even more so than Across the Second Dimension. Maybe it's my bias, because I am a Candace fan anyway, and the bar was set really high for this movie, (My opinion may change on second viewing, but for now, it really won me over), and while I do think it has some flaws, Candace Against the Universe improved on certain aspects of the series, and this is coming from a longtime fan, dating back to the show's peak in popularity.
It was much more character driven, and invested than the series was. The original Phineas and Ferb came out at a time where cartoons were more relatively episodic (Nothing wrong with that. I prefer episodic cartoons to cartoons with story archs, although I respect them, and even enjoy a few), and while Candace had the strongest development out of all the characters sans Doof, the series focused more on gags, and didn't really resolve Candace's arch as much as it could have. Here, Dan and Swampy appeared to have acknowledged that times have changed, and provide resolution to Candace's story arch in a way the series was never able to. Because the franchise has been able to evolve, it has allowed CATU to be a success, and prove that these characters can work in today's day and age.
Overall, it was a solid reunion movie, and a celebratory way to bring more closure to the franchise, and honor the show's legacy. Either way, as split as opinion may be between longtime fans, it did well in viewing figures, and brought Phineas and Ferb back to the spotlight in a huge way, and I'm glad that Phineas and Ferb is now finally being given the credit it deserves. While it didn't start the TV animation renaissance of the 2010s (That would be Adventure Time and Gravity Falls), it was the gateway to the shows that would follow in the years to come. But even with it's early popularity, felt overshadowed by shows like the former two I mentioned above (Nothing against them or anything, I love both dearly). Now, it's at long last being given recognition, and realized as one of the most historically important cartoons of all time, and I'm happy that the series has been given a second life.
Well, I hope that PnF continues to be remembered as one of the best animated shows of modern times and how to make a solid product without degrading like the simpsons, spongebob, the fairly oodparents or the loud house
I hope that if theres ever a third movie it's the finale of the meep trilogy.
I feel like the reason why they made this movie was to give Candace redemption.

It was okay. Main gripe was the surprising amount of Family Guy-esque jokes of extending the same thing for too long that really kinda took me out of the movie.
There were only two long gags, and even then they stopped before they were drawn out to pad out runtime, unlike Family Guy's overly long gags.

Phineas and Ferb pronouncing the planet’s name the first time, Buford trying get the canoe into the ship, the aliens slowly opening a door, the characters realizing the music that plays when they look at the castle, the alien listing things they’re afraid of, the aliens failing to apprehend an alien that gets released from the mind control spores, the Alien trying to control where Candace’s treadmill moves.
Orca Whales Only two of those were long, and even then, they came to a halt before they could get tedious. I understand criticizing two of them, but the other gags weren’t that long. I hate overly long gags, so if they poised a problem, I’d definitely take fault with it (It’s one of the reasons I lost interest in Family Guy), but they weren’t frequent, and drawn out, so at least the crew knew their boundaries.

Was gonna mention how I hope the third film ends up being that theatrical film we were supposed to get a decade ago, but then he brought it up at the end.
I don't find this similar to the Mars episode at all outside of going to space and being treated nicely, but even that's treated differently!
The Martians treated Candance like royalty, it was more so an episode about attention. These aliens make Candace feel like she has a place in a Universe that's proven to be so against her.
I get the similarities, and its easy to make the comparison, I'm just surprised the comparison is so widely accepted when the themes of both could not be more different.
The similarity was representative of my preconceptions. The execution was a lot different beyond the similar concept.

Like the exact middle? Or just before the Last Day of Summer? Because it’s confirmed that it is during the same summer, we just don’t know exactly when during the summer.
Cesar Arana the latest episode they directly reference in the movie is Troy Story which is midway through season 4. I do think this movie takes place at the end of August though since in Us Against the universe Phineas sings about how now they’ve saved the world again which I know there are a few instances of that but the biggest one was Phineas and Ferb save summer which is confirmed to take place in August.
The Glad In Gladiator that’s weird, I don’t remember them saying that. But that’s not one of my favorite episodes, so it’s been a really long time since I’ve seen it. I mean, in the second episode they say that Candace’s birthday is on July 11th, but then later in the season it’s June 15th.

It’s an interesting film. Compared to the first film. It falls short with the stakes and animation to an extent. But it does try to push boundaries with the characters and creates a perfect character arc for Candace. So in a way it is indeed a worthy successor to Across the Second Dimension in that regard. It’s nice how the movies focus on characters other than the boys and offer more depth and reason. Overall it’s great.
Generally, from Seasons 2 onward, Candace became the focal point of the show, where her brothers became plot devices. But this movie succeeded in giving Candace the spotlight for once, and fully emphasizing the fact she does care about her brothers.

Firelord 91021 When Stacy finished the movie it’s at a completely different time. By the time Danville is cured the sun is coming up and the sky is a mix of oranges and pinks, then we cut back to Stacy and it’s night time again.

Rollercoaster episode is 07 before phineas turn 9 and isabella might be grade ahead and couple years older then phineas and most of his friends class of 2017 born 98-99 while most chunk of the series take place 08 and 09 after new year episode and this movie take place 2010
Confusing and strange yes, but mishandled? No. However, its continuity is acceptable and well-crafted for an episodic format show, and the episodes that are not within its timeline are still enjoyable.

It takes place some point before the episode where Doof hires Buford, Night of the Living Pharmacists, and the finale obviously takes place after those. That still doesn’t explain why Doof is evil again in the Christmas vacation special, and New Year’s episode. It’s probably just safe to assume those two are non-canon.

I felt a plot recycled moment how the villain was defeated in second dimension, now it's the same defeat. How many times has phineas and ferb weng to space . And 2 episodes involving saving candace. I mean this new villain was sent back to her planet captured by the people,just like second dimension. At least this movie doesnt count as a series finale.
Aside from them both being defeated by a chicken, they are still different.

Phineas & Ferb is one of my favorites too, came at a perfect time in my life, when my favorite show Danny Phantom had ended, like seriously, same summer Nick ripped off DP like a band-aid (will NOT forgive them for that) Phineas & Ferb aired Rollercoaster on Disney Channel & I watched it in a hotel room with my mom & sister, unable to leave the room because I was nearly kidnapped by this guy who lived across the street from the hotel earlier that day. Yeah, long story, pretty much Phineas & Ferb was exactly what I needed during the time it came in. I was 15 years old, about a month away from being 16 so yeah, a bit older than the series target but dang, I latched on hard & enjoyed the heck out of that show during the entirety of its run & stayed loyal with watching Milo Murphy's Law which I actually found out about that series when I cosplayed as Dr. Doofenshmirtz & met Olivia Olson at Rose City Comicon, the ending of Phineas & Ferb was still somewhat fresh during that point in time & she told me about Milo Murphy's Law but I think it was going by a different name at that point in time. I remember looking it up when I got home & found so little information about it.
As far as Candace Against the Universe goes, gonna be honest, I was a tad bit over hyped & given how much this series means to me, makes sense. I was let down a little but did enjoy the second half of the movie, I saw it right when it dropped onto Disney+ I had a countdown going & was talking to my friends over Discord & made sure they knew that I had to head off as soon as the movie was available because I did NOT want to accidentally encounter any spoilers, I wanted to go in as clean as possible & sadly could not do what I did for Across the 2nd Dimension. At least with that movie, I got to see it a week early, it aired the same night I went to a Beach Boys concert with my mom so I had it set to record BUT thank goodness our cable provider at the time put up Disney Channel shows a week before they aired on demand, dunno why but it was convenient, I was able to see episodes before they aired during that point in time which also made things difficult since I was an active member in the fandom over at the TV website when they had a forums section, it was so hard to not spoil stuff. When Toon Disney aired Tip of the Day (wasn't Disney XD yet when they aired it) I had to wait like everyone else because this perk only came with Disney Channel BUT Tip of the Day ended up being in my top favorite episodes just because we got trolled so hard with that one, it was actually insanely important it aired on Toon Disney so people in my position didn't get the chance to see it early. Man, that episode is a you had to be there moment. Those days are over so I had to wait like everyone else to see Candace Against the Universe.
That line you touched on, it does bring up another reason why this show is important to me. I actually never even knew anyone blood related to me, I was adopted from birth & grew up knowing that I was adopted but people like my parents who adopted me are my parents, always have seen them that way, always will. My younger sister who was adopted as well is my sister even though she looks so different from the rest of us, sometimes strangers would assume my sister was my friend & not my sister, I remember hearing a story from my dad this one time waaaay long ago when someone thought he had kidnapped my sister when they were out because yeah, my dad is this big scary looking white guy & there's my adorable little sister who we actually aren't sure what she is but she is brown. She looks a lot like her birth father which is someone we never met, I think her birth mom told us he's part Mexican or something? DNA testing showed that she came up as a wide mix of things but yeah, she doesn't look anything like my dad so it makes sense that some concerned person would think that but also insulting that people don't consider adoption or any of the many other things it could be. I grew up being use to picking my family, I have some very close friends that I consider to be my sisters because we understand each other on a greater level. We have the same interests, are near the same age, can confide in each other when something is troubling us, & we support one another. There's been personal stuff that happened that I won't get into but it's deep & one of the girls in our tight group helped save the other's life. They're my family as well. I never knew anyone blood related to me, my birth mother or any of her other kids never bothered to reach out to me to find out how I'm doing & I never had an interest in knowing her because from what I understand about her, she's not a great person, best thing she ever did was understand that she was in a situation where she could not take care of me so she did give me up for adoption. She was poor, had like 5 other kids she was taking care of, didn't stick with the same man for too long, & she smoked when she was pregnant with me. Yeah, I was diagnosed with asthma when I was like 3 years old, I wonder why. Only reason I ever had an interest in seeing this person is because I'm curious onto what it's like to look at a person who is related to you, that's it. I never knew that, my little sister got to meet her birth mother before so she got to meet someone related to her, I never had that & I'm interested in doing so at least once. Don't want to know who she is as a person, she's not my mom. Watching Phineas & Ferb, it did make me smile that Candace & Phineas considered Ferb just as much of a brother as if he were blood related & same with their dad, they call him dad, they never once referred to him as Lawrence & that's pretty cool. I'd say the same in reverse but Ferb doesn't get that many lines but same implies other way around. They don't act like it's displaced or anything & I do figure it's a bit different for step families since they didn't know each other from birth. It's just cool seeing that family dynamic. As someone who is adopted, I very much appreciate this stuff, I talk to way too many people who put too much into caring about blood relations but it doesn't matter at all to me so it does hurt when it matters to others, makes me feel separated from everything, like I don't belong even though I know it's not true since I got to be that kid my parents wanted but couldn't conceive. When people talk about blood being important, it brings on those unwanted & unnecessary emotions.

Yeah, I do feel some people nitpick the flossing scene. Granted, there aren't that many complaints about it, but it's only one gag. It's not like the movie is full of them.

I liked the movie. Also I think the reason why nobody realizes that Phineas and Ferb are stepbrothers because of 'Dude we are getting the band back together' the flashback messes with a possible timeline

I think the plot of second across the 2nd dimension was better then candace against the universe. but when it comes to the music, candace against the universe is a bit better.
also the overall animation for 3/4ths of the movie was good but in the beginning it wasnt as good (which you did mention). and as someone who's favorite female character in phineas and ferb is candace, it was very refreshing and nice to see her in a better light and she her as the protagonist (finally)
overall I would give CATU a 8/10 - 8.5/10
also I honestly this us against the universe is in the top 5 best songs in the show, and ngl I think it's a tad bit better then summer belongs to you
