What's especially weird is how most shows tend to get more formulaic as they go on, yet Phineas and Ferb was the complete opposite. I swear, almost every episode in Seasons 3-4 seemed to put its own spin on things. Also, when I was in elementary school, our summer breaks would start around the beginning of June as well.

I recall an interview where the creators said that after the order of regular episodes for season 4, the network ordered the five specials, and they decided that one of them should be the finale, since they weren't sure Disney would want to do just regular episodes again and they weren't sure if they could top themselves again.
16:25 Here’s a theory that I came up with that I always thought was fun. In the video game based on the movie, the game gives a recap on what’s been happening and takes the player through various other dimensions that our heroes traveled to after escaping from Doof (2nd) that aren’t seen in the film, forcing them to take the long way around, like Dr. Baljeet said. When you finish the game, it sums up what took place after the dimension hopping, where our heroes returned home and took the fight to Doof (2nd). With that not-so-brief information stated, I’d like you to scroll back up and check out 16:25. When the song ends, it cuts to black and technically goes to commercial. When it comes back, the gang finally ends up back in their home dimension, just like where the game ends. This would indicate that the entirety of the game must have taken place during one of the movie’s actual commercial breaks.
Plus, I think that’s actually where Terry the Turtle comes from, too. The gang meets him in the Gelatin Dimension, and I believe it was established that he’s from there. And sure enough, he cameos in the movie.
The concept, the stakes, the way the heroes defeat the invasion, even the f*cking setting is similar in both movies. No wonder why Phineas and Ferb and Marvel had a crossover lol.
What do you think Phineas and Ferb: Infinity War will be like? Even though Venom doesn't happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when it premiered the same year, I would still like to include the Venom characters anyway so that the Venom character from Mission Marvel can be included in this movie crossover.
dragonfire But, you must remember, that was in an imagined situation, so it isn't actually hard evidence. This is if you mean when Stewie imagined himself taking over the world. If you mean Stan just saying "Good for Brain" at the TV, that could imply that Family Guy is a show in the American Dad universe.
I think it was in the second part of the "Where's Perry" episode where the Candace robot sacrificed itself and gave Candace the phone to call Jeremy or something, I might be wrong.
Organisation Without Cool Acronym has cool acronym if you translate it to polish xD O.W.C.A means Sheep soo translation team decided to stay with origial acronym
Pretty sure the reason they reused the "flawless girl" tune for Candace when she's riding down the street is to make fun of how teenage girls sometimes feel that they are incredibly beautiful for short periods of time.
Not me. The show creator said this their intention was originally make him a self absorb character but then he realized annoying little brother is annoying to watch.
Thinh Vo - I agree. That kind of appeal is lost on younger viewers. I do think someone with a similar attitude would make a great side-character. Perhaps one of their friends could have been like that.
I’m so upset that Django never became a bigger character, I thought he was really cute when I was younger even now I like his design and how it’s so different from the others in its normalcy

This show was my childhood. It's been a while though, but still remember it a lot. It has far greater ups than downs, and it gives me a nostalgia rush.
You know when he said we even get one episode that shows every fetish under the sun. I was thinking what was he talking about. Then about five seconds later I finally realize that my memory of watching that episode was permanent ruined.
Great review! And yeah, I will agree s4 showed signs of running on fumes, although I am inclined to disagree on Act Your Age. That did feel like a fan fic, but the best kind of fan fic, the kind that gives fans closure for characters they love and puts cool new spins on established characters. That said, the show knew to quit while it was ahead, before it could really drop in quality (though I was disappointed in Last Day of Summer. Like you said, it didn't feel like a proper finale, more like something the writers cobbled together out of obligation). If you want least favorites, there's Candace Gets Busted, which had an out-of-character Phineas and Ferb make things hard on their sister, and Where's Perry, which recycled plot elements from earlier episode and was stretched out to quadruple length with no real justification for it. Also, Phineas and Ferb's subplot was lame, they really didn't do much in the grand scheme of things. The only thing I particularly enjoyed was the Savannah song.
I agree! Act Your Age was a really good episode, especially for the people wondering so much about what was going to happen with Phineas and Isabella. I almost always cried during what might have been-
Candace being a little overused is literally the only flaw in Phineas and Ferb. I agree with Nick when he says Candace Gets Busted! is a GREAT episode.
The bradberry brothers coming on the h3h3 podcast talking about all the weird Elsa and Spiderman videos they made dressed as Elsa and Spiderman is a way worse fever dream. ( Or atleast that's what I'd say).
this made me oddly sad for some reason. like i remember watching the first episode premiere when i was 5 and i’ve watched every episode since. the show was so simple, yet to fun and creative, it really is the pinnacle of what childhood is like in a way.
It feels like Phineas and Ferb is having a huge renaissance lately. I knew people were nostalgic for it recently, but I never expected it to get this big, with the memes (And they aren't ironic either), people reminiscing about the show with good memories, and to top it all off, the revival movie, which has gotten so much positive reception. I'm glad that for the first time since 8 years ago, Phineas and Ferb is finally getting the recognition it deserves again, which is great, because I feel for the longest time, it has been overshadowed by Adventure Time and Gravity Falls, and has gotten sidelined by those shows in particular so much, that people credit them for starting the reinvigoration of TV animation. While they did help, and do deserve credit, I still feel that it was unfair that "Phineas and Ferb" was left out in the dust, considering while "Adventure Time" did go onto be the big hit synonymous with the decade, it was "Phineas and Ferb" that helped launch it. During the late 2000s, alot of cartoons were executive driven (Some exceptions like SpongeBob, Chowder, Flapjack, The Mighty B, El Tigre, and of course, Phineas and Ferb), patronizing to kids and underestimated their intelligence. Even then, there wasn't a huge variety of TV cartoons being made, and they were nearly being phased out in favor of teen sitcoms, thanks to the success of "Hannah Montana", and "High School Musical", because executives didn't think animation was worth investing in. However, "Phineas and Ferb" proved them wrong, as it became an instant success with kids and adults alike, with it's sharp humor, enjoyable characters, catchy musical numbers and sophistication, and would become the biggest animated hit since "SpongeBob", and "Family Guy" at that point, convincing the higher ups at networks to take a U turn, and start investing in original creator driven animation again. We really needed a show like this when it came out and especially for a good remainder of it's run. Like Mickey Mouse got people thru the Second World War, we were entering a recession that was so bad that we nearly entered a Great Depression, and everything felt so depressing and bleak. A bulk of pop culture around that time reflected that attitude too."Phineas and Ferb" with it's positive and high spirits helped people see thru it, and gave people hope for the future. I was 14 (I turned 15 within a matter of two months after I started watching the show)when I started watching "Phineas and Ferb". I had gone thru a nasty breakup at the time with an old crush of mine, suffered thru a plathora of bullying at school, and when I was about to enter high school, my nerves were all over the place, and I was nervous for how it was gonna turn out. Initially, I had no interest in it, because most modern cartoons were so bad at that point, that I thought "Phineas and Ferb" would be more of the same, but a friend of mine told me that it was actually good, and similar in tone to SpongeBob. I watched it for myself, and I couldn't believe how creative, intelligent, funny, seminal and heartfelt it was, especially for a modern cartoon at the time. I was instantly hooked, and became a fan thru the midst of the second season. I met alot of my closest friends, alot of who are like family to me because of this show, and I will always have alot of gratitude towards it because of that. Great retrospective. It took me back to my teenage years, and reminded me of why I loved this show so much in the first place, and how important it's legacy really is to animation. I have to agree that early Season 3 was the best season. Season 2 is when we started seeing into Candace's psyche, but in Season 3, it starts really exploring her personality, and embracing her as a character. I'm really impressed that for a show that has a structured formula, that it was also simultaneously able to move it's story along beyond the status quo, and move the characters, and series into new directions, and venturing new places at the same time. I can't think of any other show that has done that, except maybe Rugrats. Late Season 3, and Season 4 is when I felt the show dipped a little bit. I don't think it got bad or anything, and there are some amazing episodes in that period, but it felt like it was straying too much away from Candace, and more on Phineas, Ferb and the gang. Which doesn't work, because it really is Candace's story (Dan Povenmire confirmed as such). She is who really carries the show, and the whole crucifix is that she's a teenage girl who's trying to deal with the anxieties and fears that teenagers normally have to go thru, while having to put up with the outlandish absurdity of her brothers' zany escapades. Phineas and Ferb are plot devices who help set the story up, so surrounding entire stories around them felt awkward. According to Dan, once they wrapped up with the fourth season, Disney wanted to do a few hour long specials, which would explain why alot of episodes during Season 4 consisted of specials. I'm very excited about the movie. I had been following the development of the second movie since it was announced in 2011, and I was really hyped for it, and I was crushed when I found out it was cancelled in 2013. I had been feeling nostalgic about "Phineas and Ferb" recently, and did wish that the second movie would get made at some point, so it's appropriate that this is happening now. What makes it better for me is that this movie is about Candace. Candace is my favorite character, and the reason I loved PnF as much as it did, and felt there was a drop in quality when the show stopped focusing on her as much, so I'm glad that the franchise is going back to it's roots, and doing what it does best by continuing her character development. I hope it's good, and does justice to the series. I have been missing those characters, as they and the show as a whole do mean alot to me, so it will be great to see them again, even if for a one off movie.
I have got some very good news for you: I have been practicing to be a cartoon film and animation writer, and wrote a whole 3-episode follow-up to Last Day of Summer that is also the premiere to a 5th season in school for 10 more Phineas and Ferb: Back to School episodes I am developing! Since Candace Against The Universe happens before Last Day of Summer, I Know What You Did This Summer is about Candace seeing how pointless it was to try to bust her brothers, since I know that the Do-Over-inator could change her in the way it changed Dr. Doofenshmirtz. My whole 3-episode storyline happens in the first week of school and the first weekend after it. At first it starts out a Candace story, with her seeking out help from Jenny Brown to calm down and give up evil-I mean, busting. In the second part, it also becomes a Phineas story, with him wondering what to do next after he and Ferb are done with their presentation to the class about their summer, and worrying if he has to ignore Ferb to get closer Isabella (which he doesn't have to). and The 2nd and 3rd parts do a very good job of balancing out both Phineas's and Candace's storylines. They are essentially the same plot, with no subplot about Perry or Dr. Doofenshmirtz to get in the way since Dr. Doofenshmirtz gave up evil in Last Day of Summer, which means Vanessa doesn't need to keep her relationship with Minor Monogram a secret anymore. I bet Dan Povenmire will be super proud of how I was able to keep focus between Phineas and Candace, and make it about both of them and not just Candace because it will be much better off if I can flesh Phineas's character out a little instead of just being a plot device. If he and Swampy and Bobby Gaylor get jealous of my genius writing, Dan will be all "CURSE YOU, Adam the Kalb-apus!" in Dr. Doofenshmirtz's voice. September 1, 2019, 9:36pm
That is why I could help with this Phineas and Ferb renaissance. If more people are nostalgic for it now between Agee Ientee Diogee and Candace Against The Universe, just think of how much they would love to see the show in school! Trust me, I know what I'm doing. I have my mom Linda to check over all of my scripts for me. 98% of people I asked in real life who loved Phineas and Ferb told me that they want it in school. I need to do my best to execute it well so they will be glad to watch the stories, characters, and sometimes the songs in it and not just be glad that a revival in school happened while not liking the writing in it. That is unfortunately how Michael Amato felt about The Simpsons Movie when he reviewed it on his blog. September 1, 2019, 9:45pm
Just yesterday I was thinking about this show and this popped up. Without having actually seen an episode of the show lately, just prooves how memorable this show is. Heck, I remembered almost every episode you mentioned, and I've never consistanly followed the series!
I’m watching this and getting all the references, and I realize that I’ve unironically watched every episode of Phinease and Ferb, and I don’t regret it and never will. It is a prime example of what kids cartoons now a days should be like. And I love it a lot. Season four is like, ok I didn’t ask for that but ok.
Where the heck did you find instrumentals of the soundtrack? Actually, where did you find the soundtrack period? I smell massive potential in Doofenshmirtz memes, I need his sad backstory theme pronto!
the soundtrack isn't actually that hard to come by, i'm pretty sure all the albums are on spotify (but obviously depend on ur location if u can actually listen to them all)
@@moxxiimayhem oh nice! I'll give it a check later. I'm trying to find some of the background tracks though, not any featured songs. I've been searching high and low for an instrumental of Doofenshmirtz's backstory theme.
Dan Povenmire has said that even though the name of the show is Phineas and Ferb, Candace and Doofenshmirtz are the main characters. Or something along those lines. Edit: I remember what he said. He said that the boys building something isn’t the A plot, it’s the setting. The A plot is whatever Candace or Doofensmirtz are up to, since they’re the ones who actually grow as characters.
Dan Povenmire said in a RUclips short that Phineas and Ferb made the setting, not the story. That Doof and Perry made the actual story. He noted that the boys’ projects weren’t even a story in themselves. This adds some perspective
I remember Foam Town and the episode it came from, Face Your Fear thank you very much. In all seriousness, Phineas and Ferb has become my favorite Disney cartoon of all time. And me personally, I felt the show got better as it went on. Even Season 4 of the show has become my favorite season. Though I do agree with you on Season 3 being good though I strongly disagree with the Time Shift episodes which I found great. That said. Even though I disagree with a few things, This was an great and interesting retrospective to watch. Great video Nicktendo.
I liked the Time Shift episodes, if for no other reason than "Way of the Platypus" . I dare anyone to hear that song and not sing it the rest of the day.
MOM, Nicktendo is doing a Phineas and Ferb video! The real explanation before the 104 days thing is that it's the length of the actual summer season, which they confused with summer vacation but by the time they noticed, it was too late to change it lol. Man, this really brought back my passion for the show, which waned after Milo abused it a bit too much. I actually got the chance to interview writer Jon Colton Barry which gave me further appreciation for what they were able to do, and things like that. I do hope the upcoming movie is good and that they'll let the series rest after that. Milo relied too much on Phineas just for the sake of nostalgia baiting, at least to me. I don't think there will be ever be a time where networks airs their shows on a consistent biases.
Spongey444 Glad to find someone else who feels the same way about Milo. I like Milo Murphy’s Law, but yeah, it seemed like they relied a little too much on P&F nostalgia.

I recall an interview where the creators said that after the order of regular episodes for season 4, the network ordered the five specials, and they decided that one of them should be the finale, since they weren't sure Disney would want to do just regular episodes again and they weren't sure if they could top themselves again.

Here’s a theory that I came up with that I always thought was fun.
I played the game years ago and wasn’t thinking about it during this video but this is a fantastic theory. I think it all checks out.
Plus, I think that’s actually where Terry the Turtle comes from, too. The gang meets him in the Gelatin Dimension, and I believe it was established that he’s from there. And sure enough, he cameos in the movie.
The ds version was a lot different

Pretty sure the reason they reused the "flawless girl" tune for Candace when she's riding down the street is to make fun of how teenage girls sometimes feel that they are incredibly beautiful for short periods of time.

11:10 I love the fact that the phone just teleports into Candace’s hand.
19:24 tf are you talking about?? Excaliferb is my favorite episode!
It's one of my favorites too
I liked all the different historical time episodes
Centok macka fumfeu (though I'm not sure that's the english version as well) is just as good.
I wasn't expecting to ever watch a half hour long retrospective on this show.
And I didn't know that I needed it so badly.
With the ending, you should probably look at Milo Murphy's Law in full.
"we even got an episode featuring nearly every fetish under the sun"
i was today years old when i learned this.
When I heard about Candice against the universe, I immediately said "THE THIRD MEAP EPISODE" (as a joke)
