I actually generally dislike having lots of musical stuff in shows. That I didn't notice it in one of my favorite cartoons, is, at least to me, a testament to how well they did it.
I loved this show when I was kid and now as a 21 year old, I have no shame in saying i bought Disney+ just to watch Phineas and Ferb. I honestly enjoy it even more now that i’m an adult more than I did when I was a kid.
One of the things I love about Phinneas and Ferb is that somebody's embarrassment never became the thing to laugh at. Even when Candace was sometimes put in an embarrassing situation, she still wasn't humiliated. I hate watching shows that make someone being the butt of the joke an important part of the comedy. Not only does it feel a bit gross, but my secondhand embarrassment is too strong.
Favorite quote from them is from the solstice special when they are stuck on the island. “Look! A sponge and a starfish! There’s gotta be something we can make out of that! Wait no, that’s ridiculous.”
There's a platypus controlling me, it's underneath the table. Oh, I see, a platypus is a metaphor for whatever's getting us down. The government's a platypus!
Buford has a massive character development? From biggest bully in town to beloved friend with some of the best one-liners. Baljeet and Buford’s relationship is major development. The amount Ferb talks. Candace and Jeremy. Stacy getting a main character role. The fireside girls getting main character roles. People eventually finding out that Perry the platypus is an agent (even if they forget). The boys getting “busted.” And that’s not even the half of it. SOOO much character development it’s unreal. All while maintaining the formula in each episode!
Yess, busted, Betty bongos, squirrels in my pants, I ain’t got rhythm, sooo many more that I just can’t remember 😔. I guess it’s time to watch the “phineas and Ferb to ten musical count down” episode -may as well rewatch the whole show well I’m at it.
@@JakesDailyShorts Actually, you may be wrong on this. It would be immoral to do so in most scenarios but gen modification can potentially happen. Though, I guess you could make the argument that after these modifications they aren't human but used to be human before such a modification.
One of my favorite lines from Phineas and Ferb: "Well, I think we have all learned a valuable lesson today....But we all know what it is, so why waste time repeating it?" An obvious jab at how a lot of kids shows talk down to their target audience. Like Dan Povenmire said: Kids are smarter than people give them credit for.
There are a lot of culture reference in phineas and ferb that are just great. The show is like family guy for kid. During episode "summer belong to you" phineas introduce his amazing sun beater 3000 and Buford was like "it a name follow a big number" making fun of standard kid trope of cool vehicular device with a big number.
Lauren Brown OMG I forgot about that quote! I loved that XD. I HATE when kids shows have that thing where in the last scene of the episode, the characters have a whole conversation where they spell out the lesson they learned word for word, then they all shout “YEAH!!!!”, everybody laughs and the episode ends. Oh and then there are the kids shows who instead of doing this they take it one step further and end the episode by SINGING about the lesson. P and F actually DID end one episode with an “I guess we all learned a valuable lesson today” conversation (when they’d spent the day looking for Perry in Africa and then back at the camp after they found him they were wondering how he got to Africa in the first place), but they were just parodying it and I remember it made Candace super pissed😂😂
Scarlet fox Oh yes absolutely, thats a great comparison lol “Every morning I break my arms, and every night I break my legs” or whateva he said, yall know what Im talkin bout ;D
Xyloshun Ren being raised by ossolottes is pretty weird and neither of his parents showing up for his birth and having to work as a lawn gnome. that's pretty rough..
The elevated writing, also makes the show timeless. Where kids who grew up with it can rewatch it catching all of the incredibly funny visual gags they weren’t looking for or the jokes they couldn’t understand.
Elevated writing helps a lot when it comes to the longevity of these shows. A lot of cartoons and TV shows want to focus strictly on the kids, but the great shows focus on both the kids AND the parents. You want to create a writing style whimsical enough for the kids, but also sophisticated enough to be appreciated by adults, ensuring that the kids who grew up watching the show, will still cherish the show when watching it with their kids. Shows like Phineas and Ferb, SpongeBob (older SpongeBob, not newer SpongeBob), Chowder, Regular Show, and Last Airbender are shows that are still great when kids get older because the target demographic is not too hyperfocused. Does this always work? No, as a lot of shows should focus on either just kids or just adults. But if you want your show to be remembered fondly through nostalgia, and equally cherished through reruns while older, then "elevated" writing is a good approach.
@@howardbaxter2514 : Another place where this elevated writing worked is the old Warner Brothers and MGM cartoons from the 40's and 50's. Watch the old Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Tom and Jerry, and Droopy Dog cartoons, as well as others of that era that were "one shots". (ex. "Red Hot Riding Hood") The jokes and gags were often for both adults and kids since they were usually shown before movies.
@@howardbaxter2514 I also gotta put The Clone Wars on that list. Even when the episodes were dealing with shit like corruption, filibusters, and the military-industrial complex it was still entertaining as fuck.

What about when he lost his only friend, Balooney? Or how neither of his parents showed up for his birth (somehow) Or when he had to wear pretty dresses for an entire year? Or when he spent a years worth of savings (3 cents) on a teddy bear for his mother only for her to give it to Roger? Or when his family disowned him and he was adopted by ocelots? My point is that he had backstories FAR more tragic than not being able to swim.
He was forced to be a lawn gnome, raised by ocelots for a period of time, had to wear dresses for an entire year and was mocked for that, tried to show his mother love but his mum just hated him and preferred Roger because he sucks at kickball, he was lied by his parents and sent to America, got divorced, damn he had a bad life

I loved watching this as a teen. Especially when Doof was caught with a different nemesis and Perry dealinh with it like he was heartbroken and then they all go on a more friendly-like Jerry Springer show
I love how the dialogue of that episode is written like a sitcom when a character found out their significant other was cheating on them. It's one of those things I never picked up on as a kid. "We're not enemies! We're just ... bad friends." "It's not that I don't hate you Perry the Platypus, I do." "I think it's time that we start fighting other people." When Doof denied that there was anyone else there and Perry pointed out the Panda paw mark on Doof's cheek. "We met at Seattle and we just ... instantly disliked each other."
No emotional stakes? We all forgotten about every single time doofenshmirtz has a flashback? (edit: doesn't matter but for some reason my comment is invisible to some of my friends that want proof it exists, anyone know why?)
I realize the reason I loved this show was because it's happiness. Everyone in PF's world had an indefinite amount of joy. For no reason. I was automatically happy when I watched this show.
It's scary to think that the show first aired 12 years ago. I remember when my dad was at work and he came back he would always want to watch sports, but when Phineas and Ferb was on he'd never change the channel. He laughed uncontrollably to the adult jokes in the show and at the time I could not understand what was so funny. He even said it's his favourite cartoon of all times, the writers of the show really managed to keep all of it's audience watching. My dad passed away 3 years ago and is probably watching Phineas and Ferb in heaven right now. Rip dad
IMO the best parts of this show is when it breaks the routine, I love episodes like the one where Phineas and Ferb did nothing and Candance didn't believe them, or the one( or multiple, I can't remember) when Perry help out Dr. Doofenshmirtz, or that one time they sent a diferent agent instead of Perry
Honestly, one of my favorite parts to this show was the formula, but even better, that it was self referential. They'd make jokes about the formula, pretty regularly. There are plenty of reasons to like this show, but I always enjoyed the kind of 4th wall breaks that the show would deliver fairly regularly.
yeah but in order to do that they'd need to build up the routine first just enough so that it's a surprise when it's broken but not too much so that it gets boring which rarely any show gets right.
Disney said it wasn't going to work and now Phineas and Ferb is being renewed for another season. This show is what got me interested in animation and art and I will forever be grateful for it. There will never be another show like it
Mevia The Real question is, where in the world are the schools with summer vacation that lasts 104 days, and why did I not grow up there?? My summer vacations were only in like the 70-day range.
Everything in one episode: "Hey Ferb, I know what we're going to do today" "Hey, where's Perry?" Cuts to Perry going to his secret lair dooby dooby doobah dooby dooby doobah "Good morning, Agent P. Stop Doofenshmirtz." DOOFENSHMIRTZ EVIL INCORPORATEEEEEED "Ah! Perry the Platypus." Doof traps Perry "Behold! The _____inator!" He possibly says something like a tragic backstory or a reason why he built what he built Perry rolls his eyes Cut to Phineas and Ferb making their big invention, Isabella saying "whatcha doin," Buford and Baljeet also joining in, Phineas and Ferb completing their invention, and Candace trying to get Mom's attention Maybe some "aren't you a little young to be ______?" "Yes, yes I am." Cut back to Doof and Perry Perry escapes while Doof is just rambling about nothing Then they fight and probably bump into the inator which usually goes into rapid fire after they do Inator explodes, probably CURSE YOU, PERRY THE PLATYPUUUUUSSS!! A zap from the inator destroys Phineas and Ferb's invention thus getting rid of the evidence Candace finally shows Mom and it's gone Candace says something like, "but, but, but, but" "Oh there you are, Perry!" "Anyone want some pie? "Yes, yes we do." Ferb says something THE END And a song somewhere in there Let me know if I missed anything.
Remember the one where they were being different TV detective personas, and when they got to CSI: Miami Phineas was like, "Yes, yes we..." *Puts on sunglasses* "...are." YEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH That was awesome.
A perfect example of the P&F storyline is the episode “Tri-Stone-Area”, the entire episode (aside from the “live action” fourth wall break) was voiced in complete gibberish, yet completely understandable for fans of the show
If you can understand an entire episode with no dialogue, that means that the audience had to enjoy the others enough to get the characters and get the motives.
@@lexi_6669 Not really. The basic formula is quite understandable. The sequence goes: P&F do something Candace no likey. Tell mommy. Perry Fs off to fight evil. Candace fails. That's literally the whole plot--very basic stuff, and it reflects real childhood quite closely. You hit your sibling, and they try to tell mom, but you've cleaned up evidence. The only addition is the crime-fighting element which could confuse the really young, but then again they've probably watched similar spy shows at some point to sorta get what's going on. The actions and animation alone explain enough, especially since their motivations are so clear-cut by the exaggerated depictions.
Wong Ian Good point. Although, I think it’s important to note that P&F never try to hide the evidence. In fact, there’s places where they show honest eagerness to have Mom see what they did. They are TRULY innocent… Which is… weird.
For me this show is a template for the modern day Looney Toons, it has rules but once they’re established it can play with them and it’s honestly just so much fun it makes me happy
One of my favorite lines was when they visited Seattle. Phineas:We're heading to Seattle Isabella:How will we know when we get there? *Quickly gets dark and starts pouring rain*
I also gotta add the translators did an amazing job, at least for the german translation. They managed to translate the songs and still have everything fitting the beat and expressing the same
People disproving of the pitch: "What reason do we have to sympathize with Doofenshmirtz? Could you tell some of his backstory?" *_None of my parents showed up for my birth_*
Watching Phineas and Ferb everyday with my older sister was a true summer childhood experience. In our Disney Channel server they would broadcast Phineas and Ferb everyday during the summer breaks and it just gave us that feeling/aura of summer that no other cartoon was able to make. I loved this show and will never hate it.
I never talk down to children. I assume kids know more than adults give them credit for. Sometimes, the kids prove not as smart as I thought and I modify, but that's quite rare. Kids shows that talk down to kids are making kids less smart than they would otherwise be. Give kids a challenge. Remember, we aren't raising kids, we raising the adults they will become.
This. Especially since kids vary in intelligence and you never know which ones will be smarter then you assume. I hate how age has become an insult and kids are just assumed to be complete idiots. Just because they may have less experience in the world doesn't mean they don't deserve respect. It's because of this attitude towards children that children's entertainment has become stigmatized and embarrassing to admit you watch as an adult. There is nothing more frustrating as a kid then being talked down to. And we need more complex content in our kid's entertainment, as I know when I was a kid stuff going over my head intrigued me, and I liked to read books with words I didn't understand and try to figure out what they meant through context clues. On top of that kids are very observant, they tend to notice a lot more then you think they do. So yes, challenge them. Give them a reason to use those brains of theirs, don't let them become complacent with just watching colors on TV, because that attitude will carry into adulthood.
I’m so happy this show was made, with the reason to believe that children are smarter than what media tells us, to be honest kids these days are getting mature (good and bad ways). I watched this show when i was- 9 and i actually learned a lot from this show, some of them i was so proud to show off others too. Im glad about everything :))
Fun Fact : This show was the pitched for 16 years. From Fox Kids to Cartoon Network to Nickelodeon, all of them rejected it. Disney was the final channel for the creators to pitch, at first Disney rejected the concept but they ask the creators for them to keep the portofolio of the drawings and that was the last hope that the creator have in pitching the show meaning that if Disney rejected it, that's literally the end of it. Even when Candace was sometimes put in an embarrassing situation, she still wasn't humiliated. I hate watching shows that make someone being the butt of the joke an important part of the comedy. Not only does it feel a bit gross, but my secondhand embarrassment is too strong.

I actually never noticed that there weren't really conflicts or character developments in that show.
Well there's at least one thing happening over the course of time: Jeremy and Candace getting together in a relationship.
Doofenshmirtz and Vanessa's relationship evolves.
I think the one that evolves the most is Doof and Vanessa's relationship aswell as Perry and Doof

Phineas and Ferb feels like it gets kids. It didn’t try and pretend they were made of glass.
One of my favorite lines from Phineas and Ferb:
"Well, I think we have all learned a valuable lesson today....But we all know what it is, so why waste time repeating it?"
An obvious jab at how a lot of kids shows talk down to their target audience.
@@thinhvo3893 It's almost always "3000" isn't it? Didn't the naming convention come from various devices being named with the year they were made?

The sequence goes:
P&F do something
Candace no likey.

I thought that platypuses were teal colored for YEARS.
Well technically they are
They are under UV light
Everytime I see teal and orange together I think about platypuses now
HOLY SHIT
Watching Phineas and Ferb everyday with my older sister was a true summer childhood experience. In our Disney Channel server they would broadcast Phineas and Ferb everyday during the summer breaks and it just gave us that feeling/aura of summer that no other cartoon was able to make. I loved this show and will never hate it.

"Alright."
"... Sucker!"

I never got that joke, my philosophy classes start this year. Can someone explain it please?
Existentialist trading cards. They come with Tuff Gum.
Exactly! The media doesn’t understand that they are the reason for stupidity, as they are giving kids dumb TV shows.

How did u get a thousand likes in 5 hours??????????????????
@Lil Heinz94 woah calm down bud
Fun Fact : This show was the pitched for 16 years. From Fox Kids to Cartoon Network to Nickelodeon, all of them rejected it. Disney was the final channel for the creators to pitch, at first Disney rejected the concept but they ask the creators for them to keep the portofolio of the drawings and that was the last hope that the creator have in pitching the show meaning that if Disney rejected it, that's literally the end of it. Instead Disney surprised them by accepting it and the rest is history
