Oh my god that thing that looks like a switch genuinely made my jaw drop! I can't wait to see more about all of these products cuz god they look interesting! Also major respect to them for showing this off while having you play Skyrim haha ❤
The Hybrid VR console looks sick, If it is not too expensive it might be a cool Christmas gift, i also like the battery on the back part of the strap for balancing.
i was absolutely blown away by the ppd on the g2 coming from a quest 2, i cant imagine something higher than the g2 at this point. id so love to get one of those.
If you look around RUclips there are w few short 30seconds videos comparing through the lenses view of Pimax crystal to other Pimax and non Pimax headsets in known games/scenarios. Crystal really is amazing. I doubt that anyone can see sde unless they would have built in 4x zoom in their eyeballs. That's how good it looks.
Might even go as far as to say the G2 was the only headset with Screen-door effect in the lineup I tried that day, the sheer pixel density of the Crystal is really nice, I just hope it all comes together in a good package later down the line :3
super great video guys, I was very curious about the portal and crystal especially as potentially my next pcvr headset, you guys make such good content for such a small channe;. It inspires me to try the same. Did you get to try the crystals standalone mode?
Thank you so much! I sadly couldn't try the standalone mode for the Crystal as these dev. kits did not have that capability yet... Still very curious about that one myself as well! Hopefully I can get a model in my hands when it fully releases
I did not as far as I can remember, the experience was fine for me personally. It may have been my large 72mm IPD, but the screen edges did warp my view somewhat and I would like to see how that might improve if it is not edge-of-screen or lens based
Cheers mate! Due to the noisy place I couldn't get a good sense of the audio, would have to check that one in detail if I get my hands on a consumer finished version
@@dtz1000 I am so sorry, I am really burnt up and tired right now, my bad, as far as the visuals go the overlap wasn't something I noticed as bad it was pretty similar as the Aero but I did notice some distortion on the edges of the screen which were more of a space warp than a blur of any kind (Often in fresnel different)
If that's the case then I will return my Crystal. The Aero had a terrible stereo overlap. I returned it because of that(and some other subjects). So let's hope this info is not true. I cannot imagine that it's worse then the Aero. I could see a black spot between my eyes with the Aero, it was that bad. To be clear: The Aero has a stereo overlap which is BY FAR the lowest in the market, only 70.02°. To compare: the Reverb G2 which doesn't even have a large FoV still has a stereo overlap of 84.31°.
@@turbohenk702 I tried the crystal and aero head to head. i can report in my test crystal had very good stereo overlap compared to aero, its noticeably much better. Someone will have to test the percentages at one of these roadshows or whatever.
At the Demo I attended they Actually had the *PPD Turned down* in the settings on the other 'Comparison Headsets" and the comparison headsets weren't even running on the Same PC Hardware.... (The Crystal was on a beefy custom rig with a overclocked 3090ti, while the others were running on a laptop with just a standard 3080...) it sounds like you had a better setup demo, but I would say we'd have to wait for *TURE USER-BASED TESTING and COMPARISONS* using the actual production/release model (after all the "multiple Firmware updates to enable all capabilities") The Crystal has ALOT of potential, but I feel they are releasing it WAY WAY too soon, if they held back for a year and refined the software and hardware (AIO was not working at all, built-in audio was not working, and controllers still had alot of latency, like early WMR latency...) My biggest issue personally was the head strap. for a ~$1600 headset... the headstrap should be far far more comfortable, there's no reason they should still be using the exact same old-school face-hugger design... (but that part is my opinion...) man I wish they would hold this for another year and refine it~ We'd have *SUCH A GREAT HEADSET!* if they weren't shipping a unfinished, unperfected product... but hey that's also my opinion too, some people at the demo didn't care about anything as long as the QLED looked good, as long as the visual were nice, they could care less about anything else and was ready to pre-order, lol some people just got the $$$$$
P.S. I was far more impressed with the Portal, the Portal to me has ALOT more potential as an all in one system (steam-capable handheld, VR function mode (tracking was better than expected), switch controllers, and 4k screen, running android) again alot of possibility~ getting closer and closer~
I have read about setup differences and to my mistake I did not verify that at the event. I did notice the Reverb G2 ran way smoother than the Crystal in the racing sim, which I kind of waved away at the time. Overall I agree on the need for refinement and I would love for them to actually finish up all details before shipping... Overall I am still somewhat excited to see what comes but I am like you in the regard that I will take a lot of grains of salt for now until I can get my hands on a finished version to do some extensive proper testing, how ugly that may turn out is up to what the headset really is like at that time.
I tried it too. It did have working audio on the 5 minute test I got and my experience on the strap was similar to this video as it was well balanced and barely can tell it's there. I didn't try the controllers but the headset tracking was spot on. The blacks and resolution are the best I've seen.
Hey, I'm very sorry to hear about your experience. I'll have to talk to Kevin about how he is running the US roadshow. They are a bit understaffed and traveling pretty long distances between shows so I can understand his decision to use laptops, but the settings should have been equalized. I can guarantee that at our roadshow we had the headsets all running on the same hardware (with the exception of the one dedicated flight sim machine and my own PC which was used a few times to show the Aero, but that's a 5800x3d and an EVGA 3080 12gb overclocked so pretty beefy). We kept the settings equal whenever possible and did our best to show all of the headsets in their best case scenario. Audio should have been working, if you had no audio then either that unit was broken (Kevin reported visitors damaged 2 of the 4 headsets he was provided) so that's possible. But audio works on every headset we have been showing in Europe. We do have the standalone functioning but we aren't showing it because we want that particular feature to be highly stable before we reveal it as it is the more pickup and play kind of experience. As far as the experience, I do have to say even if we didn't include standalone or the controllers the headset is still a better deal than our closest competitor so you can't fault people for being interested haha. I'm sorry your experience was less than ideal, and I'll have a word with Kevin about the settings used to demonstrate the comparison headsets.
@@MBaderson During our Europe shows we equalized all the settings in the simulators. Supersampling was set to 150% for each headset as well. We did have the Crystals set to 120hz and the g2 is only capable of 90hz. In our racing sim that's why the g2 was smoother, it was running at. allowed, but more stable framerate as the pc's we were using werent able to run the crystal at 120hz and 150% super sampling without some stutter. Frame timings around 18ms instead of the target 8.3ms. I argued with Martin about that, but he wanted to show off clarity above everything else so that's what we went with. I personally guarantee however that we kept the settings equalized for all of our comparisons in Europe.
pimax big problem=software= no support virtual destop. you can't see windows interface when you wear the device. you need take out the device and open the vr game/vr software in pc screen use your mouse. after you turn on the game, you can only operate it on your device.
I'd really like a premium top of the line headset but I know people who have had pimax headsets and I hear the customer support and software issues are awful and they basically tell you to just figure it out when you have a problem so all my friends with pimax headsets returned them pretty quickly and just got varjio aeros which apparently had waaaay better support. I'm gonna wait to see if this was another pimax slip up like that.
I'm a bit worried about their standalone tracking when it comes to controller tracking as its using a very dodgy version of tracking. Sims this will be a pretty good HMD.
