The modern Andalusian began to be developed in the 16th century. The original Spanish warhorse was largely exported to the Americas during the Spanish conquest. That's why the leftover horses in Spain were crossed with warmbloods as Spain had practically no horses left. The cross was later mixed with Thoroughbred and then Arabian clear through the 20th century by the Spanish military. If you want to see the original Spanish warhorses, you will only see remnants of them throughout the Americas.

First of there are 14 native horse breeds in Spain, not including the 5 from Portugul.
Second of all, by the 15th century not 16th century, that's 1400's the Andalusian became recognised as a distinct breed. Thoroughbreds were developed between the 17th and 18th century, 1600's and 1700's.
Thirdly, the peaceful messengers of islam migration occured in the 8th century, 711 AD to be precise, the Reconquista pretty much started straight away, Thanks to Visigothic Nobleman Don Pelayo, Valiant Warrior King of the North. King of Asturias. Crowned KIng by the loyal men who fought along side him. Seeder of the Reconquista, and their descendants who continued to form small Christian Kingdoms in the North and fighting 700 years, generation to generation (instead of running away into France) until the whole of Iberia was free of Islam in 1492AD. When the remaining Christian Kingdoms united to become Spain, except for the Kingdom Portugul because they're special but I still love them.
Any my point is, Spaindards and Portuguese had 700 years to breed Arabian horses with native horses so I'd argue the Andalusian is much older than the 15th century. Because it's a war horse and by that times centuries of battles had past.
Also. I believe the origin of "the Arabian" is ancient Mesopotamia and North Africa not Arabia. The horse breed is over 5000 years old that's older the Arab ethnicity. Look what Saudi Arabians are doing to Arabian horses today, breeding them with small deformed heads ruing a majestic ancient breed of horse. Good thing Poland and Iran are still breeding Arabians.

@@edstar83 the Spanish warhorse is very old. The modern Andalusian is not. The ANCCE website states that the PRE began to be developed in the 16th century and was finished in becoming a breed 100 years ago. The military crossed Arabians into the modern Andalusian clear up into the 1960's according to Juam Llamas who was a very well respected Spanish judge for the PRE. He wrote a book called This is the Spanish Horse. You should get a copy if you can manage to find one that doesn't cost a fortune. I got mine for almost $200.

@@riddlegunnermanuel6503 On May 23, 1493, the history of the horse in America began with a letter from the Catholic Monarchs, who ordered the shipment to the New World of 20 horses and five mares chosen in the kingdom of Granada. These horses came to America thanks to Christopher Columbus who, on his second trip, took them with him.
Now everyboy know you are silly.
