yes yes yes we want more form your morning walks. please once a week.
Once a week 😱 No way I can keep that up :)
Once a whenever you can then 😊
I agree about wrens being photogenic, they're such charismatic, innocent birds! I'm also seeing a lot of them these days, and have been photographing them as well.
The wing fluttering behavior you observed is what nestlings do. During mating season females will do that to encourage males to feed them, which they need while incubating the eggs.
Thank you Laura, that makes a lot of sense I've seen nestlings do that before
Thanks Espen. Lovely video (one more time) Really like the idea of the morning walks :) Please take us with you more times. It's important to remember that we can enjoy the beauty of nature and take good pictures one hundred metres from our homes.
Absolutely, Thank you 🙂
Love the morning walk. Would like to see how to get the best out of the 40-150 f2.8, with and without the 2x Tele converter. How to easily get closer to the birds without any specialist equipment.
Thanks a lot! I love the 40-150mm f/2.8, looking forward to taking it out :)
Fantastic images!
Thank you 🙂
I had a Carolina Wren singing in the back yard first thing this morning here in Maine, USA. Such a sound! Got some decent photos as it sang on the roof peak of the neighbor’s shed. I did exactly the same thing this morning with my OM-1Mkii and M.Z 1000-400…after messing around with maple flowers in the yard (and woodpeckers and the wren) took a walk to see what I could find. Mostly Song Sparrows and Phoebes and one lone pioneer Piping Plover patrolling the beach. Early yet.
What part of Maine, we used to live in the county?
@@randominterest8868 We live in southern Maine. Kennebunk. About 2 miles from the ocean.
Nice! I'm jealous of the various wrens you get in the US, only one species made it across to us here.
Started taking my camera with me during covid though the last few times i haven't bothered. Now that we are getting lighter mornings its time to get out early. Stunning photos of the wren
Thanks a lot Ian, you definitely should :)
Hi Espen, just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your stories and how you share your experiences.😊 Incredibly valuable. That you also have simple recipes on how to improve your photography through your simple tips. 😅I'm planning to visit you at a workshop soon, I'm in Scotland quite often so next time I'll take the opportunity and come up with something. The fact that I recently switched to OM Systems is of course another argument. So just keep up the good work. Greetings Roland from France and Sweden.❤
Thanks for taking us along with you on your photo walk. Your tips are great, and very helpful. I look forward to watching this new series.
Thank you very much for your kind words Roland. Looking forward to meeting you one day :)
Thank you Linda :)
Yes! More videos like this please Espen - I thoroughly enjoyed it. 👍🏻
Thanks a lot :)
I take morning walks, too. Usually with an OM-5 and perhaps the 20mm prime or the 40-150 f/4. I photograph mostly vegetation as it changes throughout the seasons. To your point, I find that by repeatedly walking around the same area, I learn 'deeply' about my subject. And it's simple, fun, and a great way to start the day.
Did I understand correctly, you are shooting at 1/160, hand-held and silent sequential? WOW!
Often lower shutter speed than that 🙂
More of these walks, but also the "bad" ones show that it would good for the ego!🤣 Maybe even the 150-600.
I got plenty of bad photo walks, I'm afraid that would just be a video of me walking ;)
This is a good time of year for Wrens as they are busy moving about building nests to attract a mate! I love to photograph Wrens such wonderful subjects!
That was great, loved the commentary and it's a good reminder to focus on one bird and keep taking photographs with different settings, different light etc. More please!
Thank you so much Julia :)
Yeah... that's hilarious - 150m from the house. I live in a forest and occasionally my 'morning walk' doesn't get past the front gate. Nice vid - good times. All the best from New Zealand.
Thanks a lot 🙂
Hi Espen , I also go for a morning walk ,with my camera .I find it sets me up for my day . Gives me a positive mind set . I love to takes pictiures of the Wren and im also usually followed my a robin looking for a wee snack . I have a lumix G9 mk1 with the 100 to 400 leica lens .
Very nice Harry! Perfect start to the day
Lovely shots. Our Pacific Wren here in northern California is very close in shape, song, and behavior. One of my favorite subjects!
Thank you :) Curiously, our wren came from your part of the world and it's the only species in the wren family that made it over
Thanks Espen for a great video. I am the same as you, once I find a bird I’ll stick with it for as long as it will accept my presence. Nice job 👍🏻
👍 Thank you 🙂
Great video, dear friend! Actually, this is my favourite way of photography: Striving around with my cam. And there are not a lot of birds species more interesting as wrens :-)
I find your videos so relaxing.
Thank you 🙂
Love the video Espen. This type of video is so informative and just great to watch. More of the same please.
Thanks a lot Roger :) Looking forward to making more
Great stuff Espen and some fab images 👌
Thanks a lot Ray :)
Great way to start the morning. Beautiful photos! Thanks for sharing. 😎👍
Absolutely, thanks a lot :)
A nice idea for videos , really interesting. Thanks Espen
Awesome video and wonderful photos 👌 Thank you!
Thanks a lot Kim :)
Great video! Would definitely like to see more of them 👌
Hei Espen, I always enjoy your videos and this new format is great. Really like the behind the scenes nature of it and seeing how you work the scene.
I spotted a wren by our house recently, usually I only hear it! I am going to try and get out and get some images of it after watching this.
I like to see you using the OM-1 with the 300 mm f4, with and without the 1.4 x tele converter. 👍🏻
P.S. love the backlit images
Thank you 🙂
Excellent video I adore the wren and your advice was perfect. Also more of these single species walk yesterday please and the 300F4 for me
Thank you :) Will try to borrow the 300mm from OM, I had to sell mine to afford the 150-400
Excellent video. My favourite bird photography is ad hoc on walks. I like your backpack. What make is it please?
I use Mindshift, this is the Backlight 26l. Great bag
We saw a wren at our local lakes, for such a small bird 🐦 they are very loud couldn't believe how loud it was.
thanks for the new video. I like it you will take every time an other combination. I understand you have to promote new camera's and so on. But for me it is interesting to see what you could make with by exemple OMD E Mark III in combination with a 100-400 lens. Go on and I will buy a cup of coffee with you. best regards
Thanks, was just out today with the 100-400mm but used the OM-1. I don’t have the em1iii, but I’ll likely use an equivalent body in the future with that lens 👍
Great concept , story and images- hopefully you can keep it up. Thx
Cheers Edward! Will do my best :)
@@EspenHelland Keep out of the pub and you will be fine!
Love these videos
Thank you :)
Always love your video's! Could you please tell me how long the 150-400 is on the OM1ii with the hood on? Total length of the camera, lens, and mounted hood. I'm thinking of getting this lens and wondering if it'll fit in my current Pelican case with the hood on it (not reversed). Thanks
I love this! So inspiring! 🌞 /Tommy.
Thank you Tommy 🙂
Nice Video wiith amazing footage and photos of the wren. I'd like to see Olympus Pm-1 (Mark 1) with M Zuiko 100-400 mmin one of your morning walks.
Thanks a lot :) I got that gear, so can do that
Fantastic as ever Espen, the Wrens breath almost looked like music notes . You mentioned binoculars what do you use I don't want to get too large a pair or not powerful enough. Many thanks for a very enjoyable video.
I just got myself a really lightweight Olympus 8x25 WP II. Really enjoying them, I’ll show them in the next video 🙂
Great and calming video. At the moment I am wondering which camera strap I should buy, because I also have binoculars with me all the time. Maybe you have recommendations?
I like the peak design because of the attachments. Means I don’t need to use up the tripod mount. I like my wooden hold.
@@EspenHelland thank you :))
Lovely video. Morning photo walks are good for the soul. I was wondering where are you getting the sounds from this video? OM-1 with the videos you are shooting with the 150-400 or whatever you are wearing on your chest mount? Love your videos!
Thank you 🙂 most of the sounds were from the mic on my chest, but I also recorded some sounds of the wren with a shotgun mic.
Must be difficult to hold the camera steady with extended arms.
When I chimp as you did, I often hit the star * button to rate the best/sharpest shot and then in DxO processing I select only my 5 * shots. Saves time!
Cool! I don't tend to look at all of mine so I'm afraid I would miss some good ones in post if I did that.
Thanks for a great video, love the wren backlit shots. which sling do you use for your om-1 mk2 ans 150-400 lens? Avideo with the 40-150 f2.8 and somw wide angle photography would be great Thanks Nigel
Thanks Nigel! Will definitely do a walk with that lens, love it. I use a peak design sling
hi Espen
nice idea to make a video of your morning walk. I also walk 20 minutes every morning to stretch my back and wake up comfortably. I always enjoy a nice freshly brewed cup of coffee with my wife. I don't take a camera with me, it's too heavy for me 😭🥵 canon full frame 😂
Oh no! I guess you'll just have to switch gear then ;)
then I have to rob a bank, or OM-systems will make a nice offer for a brand change 😂
Espen I recently tried a G9II camera body on the 150-400 and enjoyed the feature on that camera to force focus pull to near and far with front buttons near the lens. it was only a momentary focus pull to avoid tree branches etc. Can you think of a way to do that with the OM-1. The AF limiter is toggle on and off, I just want an AF-ON for say 5m for those times the lens gets stuck on background focus.
Hello Espen, Love your videos, May I ask can I do bird (in flight) photography with an OM-5. Thanks.
Thank you. Absolutely possible, but the OM-1 makes it easier
Fabulous images . When I use the 100-400mm hand held - I get really bad camera shake , even when holding my breath!
I’m trying that next so will see how it goes 🙂
I’d love one of those lenses but price is prohibitive. I have a 300 prime which I sometimes use with 1.4 converter. Could you use that set up on one of your walks please? Thanks in advance! Also using the new 150 to 600 OM lens would be good to see in action to see how you cope with the weight.
Thanks David! I don't have those lenses just now, but I'll see if I can borrow them for a video from OM System :)
I really would love to see the om5 with 100-400 in one of these videos
Cool! I have both those :)
I swear you guys have the slowest birds across the pond. Ours are so fast here in the states you can't even raise your camera fast enough before it's gone.
haha, grass is always greener ;) One thing though, if you do raise your camera fast, that may be the reason they fly away. Best thing I find is to raise my camera very slowly so as not to scare them.
Thanks for the video. What kind of strap do you use for this camera/lens setup?
Peak design
@@EspenHelland Thanks! Peak Design Slide?
Hi Espen, how is the quality of 150-400 when using x1.25 on the top of x1.4 TC? So both teleconverters at once (1400 mm equivalent), is it usable or rather softer images?
Jeder Krämer lobt seine Ware und seine eigenen Entscheidungen 😁
I wonder if you could photograph a wren with a another lens other than the 150 - 400.
Challenge accepted :)
100-400, 300 with teleconverter.. why would he have any problem with that?
Hi, Espen do you have the 100 400 ?
Yes, coming up 🙂
Hallo Aspen,
why didn't you use the viefinder?
I did at times, it was more to show you guys what I was photographing
👍
What is that "palm rest" called that is attached to the tripod collar?
I found the info needed from one of your other videos
Could you provide link to video or the product? I did a search of your videos but couldn’t find it. Thank you.
Do you recommend the HLD10?
Never used it, I find the battery lasts a long time. It does make it easier to take portrait images though A personal choice really
Hei
Brutus the Barber Beefcake
That lens is way too expensive..if they lowered the price im sure om systems would gain more nature photographers
They offer the excellent 150-600 for 1/3rd of that price. Please be aware that the 150-400 f4.5 x1.5 costs 10.000 $ less than the Nikkor 600 f4 x 1.4 while the Nikkor doesn’t offer zoom and is twice as bulky and heavy.
Yeah it is a bit pricey, but I do think that OM System has one of the best deals in wildlife photography when it comes to lenses. The 300mm f/4 is an incredible lens and you can pick one up used relatively affordably. Also like @rudolfappel7236 mentioned the 150-600mm is a great alternative if you want the reach
@@EspenHelland yes,,i just like the flexability of the zoom but not one that booms out
photos look like taken with a phone
