    Hi Espen please keep the Vlog coming. Last year you visited a site on the Dee? with loads of birds Yellowhammer, Linnet, skulking around Gorse very photogenic. Also a bird that I have been trying to catch up with is Crested tit (Lophophanes cristatus scoticus). I would be so pleased if you would consider taking us to a relict Caledonian woodland for a special Vlog : )

    How coincidental: I photographed a female Wheatear on a friends farm yesterday (22/04/21). A very rare visitor to my bit of South Staffordshire, so I believe it was just passing through. I was fortunate to have attached my MC20 to my 300mm f4 and EM1X, as it was some distance away and attempting to climb over the active electric fence would have scared it off.

    Beautiful as always Espen. Taking a meal does enable one to prolong the time one can spend out there and by the way there are small stands to attach under the gas canister that make the stove a great deal more stable.

    I really enjoyed the video, beautiful country. Your video exhibits the journey and solitude tracking a single species, very relaxing.
    I have a question and a comment.
    I’m in my first year of photography, how close you get to the bird? Starting out I assumed the bird needed to fill the frame or be cropped to fill, I’m realizing now the photograph can tell a better story when it includes a larger more expanse view of countryside. The bird perched on the rock with the vast open space really conveys its struggle to survive.
    I know nothing about filming, however I was wondering if the footage riding the bike, starting about 0:49, if it would convey your travels from point a to point b if all cuts had you riding the same direction across the screen. Riding to the left and right seems more like your wandering, or searching. Please don’t take this as a criticism, your amount of work and dedication ic commendable, way beyond my skill level. Please more of these. Enjoy your life.

    • @EspenHelland
      @EspenHelland  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for that, I think you're absolutely right about the filming/editing, something I'm striving to get better at so appreciate the suggestion. Depends on the bird really on how close I get, usually if I want to get really close I use a hide or something. (I'm sure I replied a while back, but RUclips seems to think I haven't replied?)

    Hi. I see you and other photographer going trough fences and properties like they own it. Here in Australia, if we find a fence normally is a sign, "private property, stay out'. How is it working on there. Great video by the way.

    Espen, excellent video as always!
    I also just started going out on my MTB with my camera, but having it tucked away in my backpack doesnt really work for me when it comes to photography along the route.
    So I am looking for a way to have the camera more ready/available, but it's hard to find something perfect for a Canon R6 + extender + 100-400II with lens hood attached. Preferrably something on the handle bar/in front of me.
    Considering the Think Tank Photo Digital Holster 150 and then make up some sort of mount for it..
    Any good ideas/tips and tricks are welcome? ;-)

    • @EspenHelland
      @EspenHelland  3 года назад +1

      I think the Think Tank Holster sounds like a great shout! I've been thinking of getting that for the same reason and to use when I crawl closer to animals and want to bring a few items with me or another lens!

    Greetings. I was hoping to get your thoughts on selecting a lens...
    We have several feeders around the house (some feeders are located around 10 feet away), but we also have feeders that attach to our windows; they all attract lots of birds, and this is a great opportunity to capture photos of them.
    I've been researching online, and I understand that a Canon 100-400 is great for walking around and finding birds that are a distance away.
    Since the birds are coming right up to our windows, I was thinking that a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro might work great for really close-up photos of the birds.
    Can I get your thoughts on whether this lens will work great for this condition.
    The lens will be used on a Canon 5dIII.
    Thank you in advance for your help.
    On a side note (but related), I am looking to get a used DSLR camera. I'm considering a used Canon 5dIII (since mine has been great), but figured I'd ask if there is another camera I should consider . It will be used for birding, night-sky, and wildlife photography.
    I'm open to other brands (i.e. Nikon). Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks again!
    (I really enjoyed your video; I subscribed and activated the notification bell. Thank you for bringing me along on your adventure. Your music selection goes beautifully with your video!).

    • @EspenHelland
      @EspenHelland  3 года назад

      Thank you :) I've never tried the 100mm macro, but the 100-400 mark ii is an amazing lens and it can focus close so you might be able to use that for most of your needs. I haven't tried that many camera bodies, so I'm probably not the best person to ask, but a full frame like the 5Diii will probably be great for night sky photography. A lot of people often go for a cropped sensor for birds to get the extra "reach", but the full frame will be better for higher ISO performance.

    It is called geo engineering, kinda of weather modification from spraying the skies every night, sometimes could be seen with white streaks in the day that disperses into hazy muddy clouds, the decision of blocking the sun is taken.
