      We've been working on it slowly, my brother has put it on the back burner over the last year as other cars took priority. It's hard to stay motivated on a car you've never driven.
      Currently he's in the middle of filming a video wiring in the holley terminator x, when we have enough to put a video together I will upload. We will finish it! We have not forgotten about it.

    following up on the trans mount/crossmember issue, how did it go together? what about the shifter did it sit to the passenger side now or still centered?

    • @HackSquadGarage
      @HackSquadGarage  16 дней назад

      We had to make a plate to extend the mount back to the umi subframe but it worked out great, the shifter is centered in the hole but it's a little to far forward so we're making our own shifter arm so it's osee closer to the driver.
      If only it wasn't an 82 we wouldn't have these issues.

I have an 87 Iroc body now, went from a 327 to SBC ZZ4 to a GM ls3 crate engine, just got a BTR ls3 stage 2 v2 for it, I went with Holley’s terminator x max Holley crossmember and Holley black heart headers/exhaust..went from a 94 t56 to a Tremec Magnum F t56.   • @Joesmusclecargarage

    The reason the crossmembers are advertised as 83-92 or 84-92 is because the 82 F-bodies were factory equipped with either a 200C or a Saginaw or T10 in stick cars. The crossmember is further forward than in an 83-92 car, which is why the crossmember is a different width than your factory 82 crossmember.

  • @camaromike82
    @camaromike82 2 года назад +3

    Maybe you've figured this out since its been 3 1/2 months, but I have an 82 that I'm in the midst of planning for my swap and the transmission cross member hole/bolt locations are further forward on the frame rails in the 82 (and some 83's) due to the shorter transmissions used (82/83 came w/ the 4spd manual or 3spd auto). All the information i've gathered tells me to just drill the holes in the frame rails where the cross member lands. Also, this means the 82/83 drive shaft is longer and may not work with your T5. Same w/ the torque arm. I'd love to see the test fitting and detailed installation of these when you get to it!

    • @HackSquadGarage
      @HackSquadGarage  Год назад +1

      Yes! Actually we showed it in a video but I believe it was UMI that makes a crossmember for 82-83s that also relocates the torque arm. It has bolt holes for both versions. So no drilling the car. We used that and welded on an extension piece of steel to reach the mount, we shaved that mount so the t5 is straight instead of slanted. Used a 4th gen camaro t56 driveshaft fit perfectly. The holley terminator has been on back order for 2 months but it's on the way! We'll show all that again for sure when we get the stuff we need to finish it.

I've rebuilt a few with billet steel counter bearing retainers and they'll handle a about 50-75 more ft pounds. GM never put a T5 behind a V8 larger than the 305tpi engine. I ran into a similar fitting problem with my LS swap Hooker brand cross-member on my 83 Z28 however, my mounting holes were only off by like 3/8". Speaking to the folks at Hawks Motorsports, they told me the trans tunnel on the 84 cars was wider however, he asked me if my car was a 700R4 automatic car (and it is) if so, it should fit as apparently they were different. I was able to make it work but it took some messaging to do so. Likewise, the torque arm bracket integral with the cross-member was off to the left side by 1+ inches, so I had to make a spacer and go with longer bolts. Very curious how you guys worked this out. Lastly, I did a search on Summit racing website, and they denote fitment of the same Hooker brand cross-member for the 82-83 Camaro with (in my case) the 4L60E trans, and 82 - 87 for the Camaro sport / Berlinetta. It seems strange that the trans tunnel would be different depending on the 3rd gen. Yours is a beautiful car, the white with gold really works, especially with all the fresh paint / bodywork.

    • @HackSquadGarage
      @HackSquadGarage  2 года назад

      Yeah we had some similar issues, we ended up getting a umi cross member I believe made the early 3rd gens, it had mounting hold for both 82-83 and the 84-92. It out the torque arm mount close to the body but it all worked well. We did have to make a plate spacer to reach back a bit to line up with our transmission mount, it was off by about an inch forward and 1/2 off to the left, used some 1/4in thick steel to bend to shape, bolted it in place and we'll weld it to the cross member when everything is finalized. Right now we are dealing with clutch adjustments, it looks like our throw out bearing is hyper extenting and leaking fluid. So we need to figure that out without hopefully pulling the transmission to reshim it.
