I was stationed in Germany at the time, but my wee mammy rented our her garden 10 minutes from Balloch park toRunrig campers for a fiver a night including a fry up breakfast in the morning,of course she was at the gig and had a hell of a time.
I was at this concert so this brings back memories of a terrific day. Love Runrig they were a great live band great party atmosphere and they make me proud to be Scottish. Thanks for the reaction. Take care 😘🏴
I’m from Loch Lomond. As I was told as a kid, the song is about a captured Scottish soldier. He’s writing to his wife/ girlfriend to say goodbye because he’s to be executed. Their idea of heaven is Loch Lomond. She takes the high road as she will live a full life. He’ll take the low road as he’s to be killed at a young age, but they’ll meet again (in the spiritual sense) at Loch Lomond
Great reaction, that was nice. At the change of tempo in the song they were singing our Scottish language the "Gaelic". You can sing along with the words as it not difficult. They are saying, Ho, ho mo leannan (Oh hello my lover) Ho mo leannan bhoidheach (Oh hello my beautiful lover).
Donny Munro was a great singer but you need to listen to Runrigs later music with Bruce Guthro singing he was just amazing as a front man and what a voice he had.
I was at this concert, absolutely amazing gig. This LIVE version was released as a record and is played as the last song at 99% of weddings in Scotland
@FIGPLAYHOUSE And just to add Loch Lomand is played as the last song at scottish weddings it's a tradition and maybe listen to some Runrig songs Hearthammer Protect and survive and they done a song for my cousin in the 80s called Always a Winner he died at 14 years old to lakemua you don't have to react just enjoy the music 💙
when the song changes up in tempo (5:36 in this video) the band starts singing in Gaelic - the native language of Scotland and the mother tongue of the founding members of the band. the lyrics go: "ho, ho mo leannan, ho, mo leannan bhòidheach, ho, ho mo leannan ho-oo, mo leannan bhòidheach ho" 'Mo leannan bhoidheach' is pronounced "mo lin-yin voy-ich" and it translates as "my beautiful love" (leannan=love/darling; bòidheach=beautiful)
I was at this concert it was a brilliant day capercaillie were great and hothouse flowers had the place jumping before runrig went on stage ,and it was great to see one of my fave djs at that time tom ferrie introduce runrig as he had been trying to get their music to a wider audience, rurig were always superb but the atmosphere at glasgow barrowlands is hard to beat
This song is actually about a soldier remembering his girl before hes due to be executed by the ENGLISH..this song is played at the end of most Scottish family parties
The loch lomond gig was brilliant but the barrowlands has an electric atmosphere, and songs like alba, pride of the summer, cnoc na feille,an ubhal as airde, the cutter and the clan, news from heaven, stepping down the glory road almost blew the roof of the place
Live at Balloch Castle Coutry Prk right next to Loch Lomond 0 mins drive from my house. the CH at the end of Loch and Balloch is not pronounced as it is in words like much and such
@@FIGPLAYHOUSE Oh okay , Trinidad and Tobago , Being Scottish we have that many accents within thirty miles of each other some times you just have to guess but i like how there are similarities to how Trinidadians and Jamaicans talk , the dialects are pretty similar to my ear , but anyway what i should have said on my first comment was great vid and that RunRig are special , thnx for uploading.
@@Smartlife69-ut1hm Hey I understand, the accent confuses a lot of people lol, but I get it. It is quite similar. I am glad you enjoyed however, thank you it was my pleasure.
Not seen this in ages. I was at this gig. An all day event on the banks of Loch Lomond. Got sunburnt too. ❤

God bless you RUNRIG.A thing of beauty.
This song was written in a dungeon in Carlisle Castle in 1746 by a captured jacobite before many of them were hanged.
Mary was held there too.

I was working there taking photographs, all I can say is it was one of the best jobs I covered. 50,000 people singing along

I still have my Runrig fan club membership card from way back

Donnie Munro, one of Skye's greatest exports. Try out Flower of the West, it's from the same concert.
For me the best songs live we're always Skye, news from heaven, alba, rocket to the moon and stepping down the glory road

Was at this. It was a great day out.
Beautiful love song. I'm lucky to live not far from Loch Lomond and Ben Lomond.
And PS some of it is in Gaelic.

The song is about a Scottish Soldier about to be executed remembering the good times he had there.
Wow omg 😲
The High Road is taken by the love of his life who has too walk to Loch Lomand, the Low Road is his Soul when executed who goes there straight away
song was written as a jacobite poem in 1838,
