      At the time there were a lot of rumors that if you played certain songs backwards, they would have satanic messages on them. So, in reference to that belief going on in society, they ended the song like that. (Like the sounds reversing.) If you dig really deep on google you might find references to a certain Beatles and a certain Rolling Stones songs that were supposed to have messages in them. So, kids were trying to reverse their turntables, way before Rap music was born.

    We had some of that political mumbo jumbo break out just recently, as everyone already knows. Music and the arts are always the ones who attempt to hold theses people's feet to the fire. To see how a culture lived during it's age, check with the artisans and their art. The truth can often be found there.

    hi guys. i am from south africa. since 1969 after woodstock, a lot of bands started singing what they saw as happening at the time. most of these bands were banned outright in .S.A. because they were anti-political and anti religious. the ironic part was that as soon as we heard they were banned, just about everyone we knew had a copy within days. bootleg of course. we thrived on the 70's music knowing just about every word of every album banned. NOW. thank you for digging into the past to bands who could write music of which most of them took you on a trip to discover yourself. this is what we grew up with. Dave.

    It always amazes me when I think of how 'controversial' this band was. With a name like "Black Sabbath", I get it, but there is nothing about music that is anti-religion in and of itself. I'm a Christian, but I'm also a metal head, total music lover and a professional blues singer and musician. To me, all of those things are about inclusivity and equality. I'm also not the type to shove my beliefs down other peoples throat's. So, God bless, and rock on!

    I’m thinking just the name of the band made them “evil”. As well as some of the names of the songs. It’s people making judgments without knowing facts. Happened then as it does now. Sad. I was a teenager when Black Sabbath first came out and their sound was certainly the WOW factor. The "evil" label is because of the heavy / loud sound which was not common in those days. • @SentientBeingMusic
    @SentientBeingMusic 3 года назад +2

    If you never take the time to really listen to the words, all the words, then it would easy to label them as "evil". Truth is, their whole beginning came about because of a book of black magic that Ozzy gave to Geezer. Who, while being stoned and reading the book, experienced a dark spirit that came before him inside his room. Hense the beginning words to the very first song. "What is this that stands before me?" And even after that Geezer dabbled in black magic for a while before leaving it behind. If you hear the song After Forever, it is very much about God and Light. For anyone to label them as evil is to say that you have not listened to all their songs. So much hope, light, and peace I have gained through the years from their messages. Yes, the beautiful part of their music is the darkness of the sound, the tuned-down guitars, the jamming bass lines, the bombing drums, and the frequent recalling of black magic and death in Ozzie's vocals. But they are really so much about life and death. Before and after. War and peace. A complete band. This is where all metal came from. Thank you for reacting to this classic tune. More, please.

    Tony Iommi, the guitarist lost the tops of two of his fingers in a work place accident. He created two plastic tips for his fingers. He had to re-learn to play guitar, down tune, get lighter strings and invented this dark heavy sound. Where all of us would have given up, he was driven to create a new sound despite his handicap. We are all grateful that Tony created this sound.

    Black Sabbath is a very religious band. People just took the imagery and called them satanic

    You have to listen to every Black Sabbath song four times to just listen to each member of the band.

    The song depicts the horrific gyration of war and the attitude from government and the emotional havoc it creates for society, individuals, families, love ones who leave for war and loves ones who wait for their soldiers return or not.. WW2 was form 1939 to 1945 Members of Black Sabbath( born 1948-49) are from Birmingham England a city known for its blue collar workers smoke stack industrial steel and manufacturing.. The parents/family of the members witnessed WW2 and the destruction it imposed on England(possibly family members were killed in WW2) .. This message of war was most likely echoed to them as children on what the horrors of war are like that just occurred few years before they were born and they were able to express diligently in this song. .. That siren you hear in the beginning of the song( is a real siren sound) was used to sound off to warn the local town/villagers that war attack was emanant, a scary sound to hear during that time with most wondering where to go and hide... A very pivotal song
