This was an incredible project to work on, I'm so glad you've enjoyed your experience and reading the comments has put such a smile on my face. This has truley been a labour of love on all sides involved. I like to think of the wheel as the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team wheel for Simracing rather than a replica as the word 'Replica' really does do it a disservice. The work that has gone into this has been meticulous to give the user a true F1 driving experience when paired with your sim and hope those who have ordered one, enjoy every minute of every lap with it.
It arrived the other day and I think I've found my love. I don't even have a way to mount it to my wheelbase, so it's just a desk ornament at the moment, but it's everything I've ever wanted.
This has to be a hell of a chance to kind of look behind the curtain so to speak. What we look for in Sim Racing versus what Mercedes AMG signed off on so they could release this. Comparing it to what we look at when we get wheels. We are so fortunate to live in this time where a game is so effing good. This niche hobby has elevated to the point where actual F1 engineers and whatever, people with say so in the real world, sign off on something like this. We pay for it of course, but for the immersion gamer, wow. How awesome.
Impressive how far we've got in sim racing. Remembering play as a child with my Thrustmaster Random Wheelbase. Its awful compared to todays systems but it was one of the best systems out there for sim. Happy to see this crazy thing.
As soon as I saw the teaser they put out for this wheel I knew I was going to buy it, finding out how much it cost was a bit crazy but I had savings with no real goal so this became my goal. I’m a big fan of F1 and formula cars are my favourite to drive, so for me at least it’s worth it. I think it’s really awesome Mercedes allowed this to happen, this is literally an exact F1 wheel in the hands of normal people, it’s amazing! Ordered mine right at the cut off point for the second batch, so hopefully within a month I’ll have mine, I will use this quite generally, for formula and gt cars, I have a circular rim for the others, but this makes a great display piece and conversation starter too, but I will probably get a display case for it when it’s not in use, can’t have it getting dusty!
Idk if he answered that in the video or not, but the idea behind that button is that the mercedes F1 Team is sponsored by WhatsApp, so yeah they have the WhatsApp button as a communication button
The price is obviously bonkers... but you know what. If I had a proper sim rig, I'd love to be able to have the real life F1 racing wheel from a real F1 car and driver that is essentially the real thing. That's unique and just to know that you know exactly what it feels like when LH uses his wheel... that's definitely a cool experience. Whether or not it's worth the money, well that obviously depends on each individual and their finances etc.
Great and thorough review, Mr. Ford! Thanks for the work you put into your videos! Happy owner of the GRID Porsche RSR simracing wheel... not missing 7-way switches a millisecond. I despise these things to be frank. The only - currently anyway - 7-way-switches I come to like are the ones on my GSI FPE V2 wheel. those are great, useful, purposefully placed, they react as they should, no false input when using the push-button function, not flimsy, not sticking out like the Orthanc tower. I saw a guy accidentally ripping off the cap of a 7-way-switch on the GRID MPX wheel, just because the FFB was going crazy and ripped the wheel out of his hands. I was thinking about the MPX when it got it's reviews online, because I liked the clean style of that wheel, but the 7-way-switches were always an issue to me. Exactly because I thought of this, what happened to the guy I mentioned... I always thought "those switches are not placed in a thoughtful area". And they aren't the placement is stupid in my opinion. The GSI FPE V2 is the first of many wheels with well placed 7-way switches AND them NOT being annoying when using them. There surely is a reason why there aren't any of those on real race car steering wheels. And I would be furious, if this particular F1 replica wheel had 7-way switches glued onto them just for simracing purposes while the original one doesn't have them... especially with the official license stickers going on and the high price tag. Another thing... I don't mind branding. In the current Hypercar generation (LMDh, LMH...) and LMP2 and LMP3s, there are a lot of Cosworth steering wheels in use. I think it's nice, that the original Merc-AMG-F1 wheel doesn't have that anywhere. But if there was any kind of branding on the real one, like a Merc star or something, I would expect that on the replica. That's why I am happy about the nice branding on the Porsche RSR wheel by GRID. And the OPTION to put a GRID sticker onto it if you want or just go with the original Porsche branding and the very neat Porsche crest beneath the screen. I do own the VPG V-PGT wheel, which is essentially a replica wheel of the 992 GT3 R without Porsche branding (and probably without license, with the design seemingly being unprotected). Some people put a Porsche crest onto it, because VPG has a space for that in the carbon mold. Some use knock-off crests ordered from some obscure corners of the internet, some invest the money into the real one... I prefer to put the VPG crest onto it, since it is not a Porsche licensed wheel, it isn't made by Porsche but by a company called VPG.... so why not allowing that to be represented? I could choose to not put anything onto it, but it would look rather incomplete. But I have the choice, which is nice, and thoughtful by the maker of that wheel. If I wanted to have a unbranded wheel, I could also DIY a wheel, which is absolutely possible on the level of quality compared to wheels I mentioned above, but it would be just as expensive on the same level. But I am glad the options for buying such wheels are growing, which is a benefit of the internet. 20-30 years earlier it would be a nightmare to advertise or ship such niche products. But nowadays two guys in bavaria can launch a premium sim steering wheel company starting off building those on their own and shipping world wide, called BavarianSimTec. That is risky even today, but you can reach far more niche people nowadays than back in the day, where you would have to start of on a national level... selling 10 wheels in Germany and giving up the business the same year you started, leaving yourself at bankrupcy, rather then selling maybe a 100 worldwide in the first year (they probably did more). Good times to be a simracing enthusiast.
Can't wait for mine to arrive (hopefully end of this week or early next). I'm the 3rd/4th order of the wheel. Thanks for the code Will and awesome review.
I think the simhub way is absolutely the best way. one software to manage everything to do with sim racing rather than 1 software for my wheel 1 for my pedals 1 for my wheel base one for my shifter. simagic has the right idea by giving me the choice with my GT neo but lets be honest. the amount of manufacturers that work with sim hub its now in their best interest to keep it going and sim hub has become such an integral part of the sim racing community as a whole its not going anywhere.
13:13 Mercedes recently released a video on their RUclips channel going over the differences between the sim wheel and the real one, the buttons were changed from a design point, as the real buttons have more throw in them to protect against accidental presses while the car is running, while the sim wheel has less throw because the wheel won’t be subject to the same g-forces, therefore an accidental press is a lot less likely
I absolutely agree with you 100 percent (I thought I was the only one who felt this) on the logos and branding plastered over most sim racing wheels these days: it’s just visually too distracting, looks tacky and takes away from the elegance of a wheel. If they must: just place it somewhere that’s not so readily obvious or else they should just leave it out altogether. In this case, SimLab meticulously placed it in excellent areas and nailed it in spades! I was just wondering in terms of the actual weight: is it almost the same as the real life counterpart and was there anything else in this wheel that they might have missed out on? With that being said I don’t think it’s a problem that this product will sell regardless of the high asking price. This is because there just simply aren’t any wheels with this high level of craftsmanship out in the market place today. Very nice and detailed review!
Brilliant idea for a build, you will have fans of Mercedes that will buy this wheel just as an F1 Fan. A chance to own an F1 wheel copy will buy this, even though they don't drive Sims. 2500 us dollars is nothing for many F1 fans that will spend 10k on a weekend event plus travel.
It's the same price as my rig. Trak racer tr 80 mk5, fanatec gt dd pro, v3 pedals, shifter, Mclaren wheel, and handbrake. For the same price or there abouts for just a wheel
I don't mind branding, I love my Cube Controls logo on my steering wheel. What bothers me more is when they put a car brand on the wheel, like the McLaren steering wheel. It feels weird to drive another car in the simulator with that wheel.
So. I'd certainly like this, but I think I'll keep saving for the GSI Hyper P1 given I'm after a slighty larger diamiter wheel and drive prototypes far more than formula cars.
I love the glue seepage and any imperfections, it's just realism, as you brilliantly illustrate in the vid. People "relic" guitars and pay two or three times the cost of this wheel for a Rory Gallagher or Stevie Ray Vaughan Stratocaster that looks like it's been dragged through a ditch. I want a rugged tool with which to win races, not a shelf queen!

Fortunate to have a go on one of these and it is exquisite. There's premium and then there is this. Makes you wonder why real F1 cars wheels are 50k + if this is so close. Software maybe?
Phenomenal review, have been extremely curious what this package had to offer. It is tantalizing from a collectors perspective, but personally there are two strikes. #1) I already own a hyper p1 and formula pro elite. #2) Not sure if I want a wheel from a troubled era in merc racing. That being said, I would probably bite if the price was a bit more reasonable… this coming from a guy with I think 10 or more wheels in my collection at this point. Again, thanks for this guys.
Im just glad the big names arent just trying to get the "masses" with cheap garbage, ESPECIALLY with F1. They didnt do a thrustmaster, but an actual great looking wheel for ACTUAL simracers thats not a ripoff (at least not completely lol) and its not aimed at "casuals" that play codemasters
Nice review, been waiting to see one on this wheel. A little bit funny to me, I've been taking so long designing and getting parts to make a diy version of the current Mercedes F1 wheel that now there's an official product lol. Pretty much on and off for about 1.5 years now, just keep putting it on the back burner in favor of other things, and partly just putting it off. Also some design choices are interesting on this one, instead of being a 1:1 representation of the one they've been using since later parts of the W12 I think, some bits of it are from the design of the previous wheel. Like the bottom being a ''wavy'' shape instead of being flat, the shifter mechanism being more similar to the old one rather than current, and some other small things. Not that it's a bad thing at all, after all even the real wheels aren't always the same and have some minor changes here and there, and also it certainly makes for a better official product in terms of styling. Not to mention I prefer this choice for the shifter mechanism since it's somewhat easier to service, why I chose to do the same.
Glad you noticed the small details! We had a lot of back and forth with Mercedes about which details this would be based on. What we have here is the exact version that the Mercedes Engineers wanted us to bring to market. Some of the decisions were even made due to IP protection 🙂
@@leecarllcs6619 Ahh, interesting. I actually wasn't even thinking of IP being a reason for some things, but it makes sense. And really as I mentioned, a number of the design choices make a lot of sense for it being a finished product, by a lot of the pictures I've seen, the real thing has less polish in styling and fitment, probably cause it doesn't need to be. In a lot of ways the w11 wheel had some design features about it that felt more like a finished product, and those are the ones I notice being on this wheel. Other than the other things I mentioned stuff like the button surrounds being sunken in, and the part where the rear shell goes into the grip being rounded instead of squared off. Also I don't quite remember and I may just be blind, and tired at this point lol, but I didn't see the button in the grip. If so I wonder if that's cause it'd be a pain to fit in there or structural compromise to implement it. I could see why since that's going to be a pain for me too, maybe slightly more so since it's not the shell that provides any structure in mine, but a 6mm aluminum plate that basically goes through the middle of the wheel. That's also made it a pain for the rotary encoder just before the middle connection of the grip. lol
There definitely seems to be less hardware being released and I think you hit the nail on the head with the corporatisation of sim racing although ironically the very top end like this is probably the only place where there is still a possibility of making money.
Seems fantastic, but as I really only simrace in VR, I prefer the F-Pro from Cube Controls for solidity and versatility and not least tactile feel of the thing
F1 reducing cost by economy of scale, by selling many units to the simracing market. One unit is expensive, one million units is less expensive. Maybe soon they'll be selling F1 chassis to reduce cost
They did a strange thing with the AUD price...originally it was just a floating exchange rate price which appeared to take the VAT-free Euro price of about 2300 EUR and convert it, and it changed every day based on exchange rate. Then they changed it to a fixed AUD price, but it now equates to about 2700 EUR - which is what you would pay in their home country of the Netherlands with NL VAT included....despite Australia being a destination which should not be paying any European VAT. Luckily I got my order in before the change and saved about $700...
Hi Will thanks for your detailed reviews... Looking forward to seeing you review the Leoxz XGT Ultimate. I'm sure its on your radar any idea when we're likely to see it on your channel?
Could you please do a review of the Simjack Pro pedals (stock vs mod) since they're are supposedly the best budget pedals with customization available? I think it'll really help a lot of people aiming for budget builds including me. Thanks!
did you realize that the EA F1 games are the only racing game releasing yearly, and being not quite a sim but being in this weird area that no other games are? IRacing, ACC, AC rFactor2, AMS 2, LMU, etc are quite serious but GT7 and FM is completely simcade but offer a bunch of racing disciplines. Only F1 gives the F1 experience but for some reason doesn't want to focus and become a complete sim. i guarantee that if they went the full sim route with enough help and assists for casuals and others they would sell more copies and this wheel would be an interesting choice for those with the money
If they went full sim mode they’d sell a fraction of the copies. Something like 70% of players aren’t even using a wheel IIRC. Hopefully we see an alternative at some point that provides the same authentic F1 experience without all the fluff and with simulation physics.
@@boostedmedia no they wouldn't I'm not saying setups need to be exact like IRL but have the feel always trying to match reality. the assists will make controller players continue to buy and the rest, well they just need to increase the feel of being an F1 driver like my team and driver career with more depth over the years. we already see the lack of sales from F124 and that is not because the game is more sim-like.
Been thinking of upgrading my T300 to either simagic alpha or alpha U + GT Hub + GT Neo and this wheel costs more than this whole setup 🤣🤣 maybe I can afford this in 10 years
Hi, great video, I dream of owning this steering wheel. I am a big fan of Lewis Hamilton. Would it be possible for you to share the Dashboard of the Mercedes AMG W15 because I can't find Morgan Gardner's profile
I have had my income cut by 2/3 due neurological damage resulting in disability. I can't spend that kind of money anymore for a wheel and a hub. I have been waiting for a Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton wheel for a very long time. He has always been my favorite Formula One driver.
More of a collector's item tbh. Sim companies need to make more wheels without screens because 99% of sim racers are not using F1 seating position where a wheel screen is actually useful. Please do a review of Bavarian SimTec Alpha. That wheel seems to be an amazing piece of gear with innovative software features that is a third of the price of this Mercedes wheel. It seems like you have been using MPX as your daily (so am I) so it would be great to hear your opinion on how Alpha compares to it.

the Mclaren display that every F1 team mandatory needs to use is already 15K GBP. On top of that its handbuild and takes weeks to complete.
Finally!!! Been waiting for them to fix the issues so you can review 🥳🥳🥳
When is the news about the Ascher wheel coming out? I was just about to buy one. You said that you would be revealing something soon. Thanks!
You're underestimating your viewers, dude. We ARE definitely interested in buying one of these... right after we sell a kidney. 😄
Have you attempted to mount the wheel onto the Fanatec DDs?
Phenomenal review, have been extremely curious what this package had to offer. It is tantalizing from a collectors perspective, but personally there are two strikes. #1) I already own a hyper p1 and formula pro elite. #2) Not sure if I want a wheel from a troubled era in merc racing. That being said, I would probably bite if the price was a bit more reasonable… this coming from a guy with I think 10 or more wheels in my collection at this point.
Again, thanks for this guys.
Ready to press the "Magic-Button" 😂😂
That's also made it a pain for the rotary encoder just before the middle connection of the grip. lol
I'm not a simracer yet and although I can't afford the wheel its something I'd buy and display in my house just t say I have an F1 steering wheel
There definitely seems to be less hardware being released and I think you hit the nail on the head with the corporatisation of sim racing although ironically the very top end like this is probably the only place where there is still a possibility of making money.
36:09 Biggest flex is that's my mate who designed the W15 screen
Love this wheel. Going to have a hard time not buying this thing. Great review Will 👏
Can't wait to get this for mine Moza r3 😍
Seems fantastic, but as I really only simrace in VR, I prefer the F-Pro from Cube Controls for solidity and versatility and not least tactile feel of the thing
F1 reducing cost by economy of scale, by selling many units to the simracing market. One unit is expensive, one million units is less expensive. Maybe soon they'll be selling F1 chassis to reduce cost
Hello, where can you download all those Dash? Thank you!
Great review,love the thumbnail
I respect that wheel for its authenticity, but I think Im gonna stick with looking to buy the Simagic FX Pro.
Wow, that clutch stuttering is massive! 2500k for this kinda of performance? Nahhh I'll stick long with my simagic fx wheel!
Price tag still not bad all things considered. For example, the Cosworth Indy wheel made for sim racing costs $7,000
Would REALLY appreciate it if you could release Gomez Hyper P1 review before Black Friday sale goes live!
Can’t afford it but awesome that I can now use wheels like this on my Logitech pro base
Crazy
I already have this wheel. I play in VR. 😂
Hi Will thanks for your detailed reviews... Looking forward to seeing you review the Leoxz XGT Ultimate. I'm sure its on your radar any idea when we're likely to see it on your channel?
Just waitin on final bids on one of my kidneys but sign me up!
Remember to cover the top left corner of the wheel when you start a race or you might stall
Could you please do a review of the Simjack Pro pedals (stock vs mod) since they're are supposedly the best budget pedals with customization available? I think it'll really help a lot of people aiming for budget builds including me. Thanks!
I wish they make a wheel with DAS system
(Sarcasticlly)
great thumbnail !!!! :)
Combining elegance and luxury kislux
Can't wait to see what evolves down the track from Corsair buying Fanatec?
Hanging gor asetek launch... hope it's an invicta wheel... probably will get one of these also
at 43:13 did you just say that there will be a version without branding??? I want this!!!
its a shame this costs so much. looks like I'm getting the Ferrari wheel
Are you going to open that wheel and show inside :D ?
Are there plans to review the updated version of the Grid Porsche RSR wheel ?
Hey will!, i hope you have plans of making a review of the VNM 32nm Wheelbase!
After seeing this forking over 1400 for a CSX3 doesn’t seem to hurt as much now 😅
How do you clean that rubber after use?
Which base is this compatible with?
Is this compatible with R12 with the Moza QR adapter?
wish a wheel like that was available for the ps5,
I’m not sure if I missed it, but can this be used on a moza r16 wheel base ?
did you realize that the EA F1 games are the only racing game releasing yearly, and being not quite a sim but being in this weird area that no other games are?
What bases is it compatible with?
When is the pimax crystal light review coming out?
Damn, you are talking fast :D
Been thinking of upgrading my T300 to either simagic alpha or alpha U + GT Hub + GT Neo and this wheel costs more than this whole setup 🤣🤣 maybe I can afford this in 10 years
Love the content and respect your opinions above all but maaaaybe getting a bit too detailed? Don't think this needed 49mins and 20k words?!
Do you always parade around RUclips telling others how they should make their videos?
Parade?! No, just sharing feedback as part of the community that boosted Media create content for. Wind your neck in!
My first thought with the yellow label on the lower left was that they spelled START wrong. 🤣
Hi, great video, I dream of owning this steering wheel. I am a big fan of Lewis Hamilton. Would it be possible for you to share the Dashboard of the Mercedes AMG W15 because I can't find Morgan Gardner's profile
But can it be used in the f1 car. That’s where the fanatec gt3 bmw wheel is so so cool also.
With the additional cable connector, can this wheel have a hub adapter to adapt it to the Thrustmaster T-818?
I have had my income cut by 2/3 due neurological damage resulting in disability. I can't spend that kind of money anymore for a wheel and a hub. I have been waiting for a Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton wheel for a very long time. He has always been my favorite Formula One driver.
Do you have a drinks button .
the shifters looks garbage anyway from the front it looks awesome
Finally someone created a wheel that has a proprietary WhatsApp button
About time! 🤣
@@sim-lab_official As a daily WhatsApp user I must thank you, now I can reply to my friends while also destroying them in track
How can i mount this on a simagic alpha wheelbase?
I would need Bono in my ear telling me what buttons to push. Is there a mod for that?
More of a collector's item tbh. Sim companies need to make more wheels without screens because 99% of sim racers are not using F1 seating position where a wheel screen is actually useful.
Please do a review of Bavarian SimTec Alpha. That wheel seems to be an amazing piece of gear with innovative software features that is a third of the price of this Mercedes wheel. It seems like you have been using MPX as your daily (so am I) so it would be great to hear your opinion on how Alpha compares to it.
Is there a mod on Etsy to put this on my T300?
