if you compare to last year, this year was way more competitive with better players, last year kevo dominated because he was like 1.4k mmr while players like mankalor was 8k mmr
Toad Harbo(u)r was the longest original non-DLC Mario Kart 8 course? I'm pretty sure Mount Wario is at least twice as long. Infact, I'd say Bowser's Castle feels a little longer.

Not really. There's still a lot of skill required, especially if you want to keep your lead. There are RNG elements that make it so even the guy in last can win if he uses his items strategically, but that's it.
