Big thanks Garth. Very inspirational. Great the way you broke the whole process down. It's made me want to do the audio job right. I think that to many cinematographers are so "focused" on the image they know what they should do with the audio and still don't do it. -Michael
So comprehensive and interesting! Thanks for putting this together. On my last commercial project for a client in Africa, I also took a separate audio recorder with me and spent extra time recording the animals and ambient sounds of each environment we were at. And the client couldn't pinpoint it, but they said it 'felt' much more like you were actually there when the watched the piece afterwards. Goes to show how many layers of on-location sound as well as good SFX, foley etc. can REALLY immerse you into the visuals.
Awesome video, Garth. Really enjoyed this! Sound design is such a powerful element to an immersive film. You did such a great job explaining this. Another thing I like to do is add a little bit of reverb on some foley elements that are a little further away. I find it adds just a little more depth to the sound. Glad to see another video from you!
I love watching your stuff because you can share a lot of insights on documentaries. Would love to hear more about your equipment, how you plan a documentary and how you tell the story. Best of luck in the future!
I liked how you built up the sound of the kettle overflowing but I have one comment to make about the sounds, specially the sound of the water evaporating when it hits the stovetop, you can tell that the sound was recorded in a room rather than in the outdoors, I don't know if you can modify it in post to make it sound like it was recorded in a larger space or if you need to record it outdoors or in a sound treated room. But the edit was great, I'll definitely be experimenting with this too. Cheers
Hey man this is so inspiring and insightful. I love the way you explain your process and the passion behind your work! Yours are some of the best documentary filmmaking videos I have seen. Would love to shoot rhinos in Africa too! Lifetime dream! Thanks for all your content, keep up the great work you provide, I am sure any documentary style video creator like me can only love your channel! Cheers from Italy

Tyler Edwards thank you! Nice, I’ll definitely try add some reverb on some of those more distant elements. Thanks for the tip bro!
