I don't think the "great guy" comment was meant to insinuate Jan was masculine. It was a term of endearment, what you'd call a friend of either gender.@@finster1968
Kids say insensitive things without considering how the remark will be taken or interpreted. Boys don't usually have a filter until much later and tend to blurt out their replies.
@LisaK71000 + It is so ironic that you commented today because I was just watching this same episode once again earlier today:)!! And yes, Clark did see Jan as a tomboy:)!!
@paul williams + Not really. According to the story in the episode, this young Man was attracted to her older Sister Marcia because Marcia dressed very feminine, but he thought Jan was "just one of the guys" because she dressed in jeans. However, I just thought it was funny because Jan NEVER looked like a "guy", LOL:)!!!. However, it is just a fun episode:)!! They just do not make Family Shows that honor Family any more.
That’s what I posted. Jen was a superstar who didn’t get the credit just like Peter and I’ll tell you I remember being this age and dating 12 years old going bowling and buying her a Hershey bar. You’ll never have that kind of feeling again even when you’re married and hanging out with friends, there’s something so special About being a preteen and then a teenager driving your car picking up your girlfriend to the movies walking on the beach right before a curfew. It’s so special you can’t even put in words.
Both movie were brilliant how they turned the favorite Brady moments into comedy gold. Something Suddenly Came Up was one of the ones that was hilarious because it meant something completely different 20 years later.
Im 48 and been through it all. I watch these old shows and I wonder why it makes me want to cry. Perhaps the childhood I missed or growing up watching these shows. Probably both. Oh well. Thanks for putting them up here.
Of course. I like that convertible and 8mm movie camera - silent. Some models had sound along with the film.. Need to do a Google online Newspaper - look for a Degreed Architect and compare it to a Gas Station Attendant Job circa 1974 or so - (already did) and living in a Brady Neighborhood was not that expensive and obtainable.
Alan Sampson+ I so understand, especially now with the Covid-19 scares. Also, in our day when we were Children T.V. shows in the 70s and 80s were more feel good shows as well as some were even wholesome. Unfortunately, today with all the nasty "reality shows" it kind of kills all that feel good family loving shows of our day as well as even of our parents days. Take care and I pray you stay well and healthy:)!!
She comes up with the name George Glass similar to the way Supergirl comes up with Linda Lee, Preston Waters in Blank Check comes up with Mr Macintosh and Daniel in Mrs Doubtfire comes up with that name.
When Jan walked out on to the back porch in the blue dress she looked like the Belle of the ball which means she is gorgeous and beautiful and pretty and Jan is all over those things and more she is a great person.
There's one thing that bothers me about this episode. How could this kid think Jan is a boy?! When she was wearing jeans and a button down shirt she still looks like a girl! This boy obviously needs glasses!
I never understood it either, but aside from being a bit reaching for a plot by the writers, I think gender roles were much more strictly enforced back then. Some women and girls comment that in the modern era, guys hardly notice them if they aren't wearing any make-up and are in comfy clothes. But as soon as they put on make-up and wear something even just somewhat stylish and feminine, then guys take an interest.
It’s just a silly thing on the part of the writers to create a plot. Gender roles were not “enforced” in the 70s. We were freer than uptight kids today. Everyone was relaxed and didn’t worry about much.
I will tell you one thing Florence Henderson was so stunning. This look holds up in 2025 and I remember being like 15 insane wow if only lol and let me tell you the kitty ice cream. I guarantee you that kid was pulling the chicks in junior high school and his look holes up today. 😹
One can learn a lot from watching the Brady Bunch. To be attractive to boys, girls must wear groovy clothes. But, how does one know what type of clothes are groovy?
sammavacaist: But this is logic in action. Jan was friend-zoned and didn't want to be. Someone who loved her got intel directly from the guy she liked. Intel applied and tried. Success. And that pink dress was super pretty. Had she done it your way and refused to at least try it out, she would've not only behaved illogically but missed out on a lot more than just getting the guy. She would've missed out on several positive social and individual lessons that were essential for her (and people in general, including kids her age) to learn. Jan chose wisely. And look how she expressed gratitude by thanking her family for their support.
@@LA_HA both dresses she wore in that episode were ugly and like something someone would wear in the late 1800s. I had nicer dresses - sometimes skirts and blouses
I grew up in the 70’s watching the show. But after seeing the movie, it doesn’t seem correct that Marcia isn’t curling her upper lip in disgust when Jan steps outside. 😂
6 Episodes of the 6 Brady Kids dealing with love. 1. Marcia- Brace Yourself Season 1 Episode 20 2. Jan- The Not So Ugly Duckling Season 2 Episode 9 3. Cindy- Cindy Brady Lady Season 3 Episode 21 4. Greg- Greg's Triangle Season 4 Episode 11 5. Peter- Cyrano de Brady Season 4 Episode 5 6. Bobby- Never Too Young Season 5 Episode 4 All 6 Brady kids have episodes were they are dealing with first time love and there first Boyfriend & Girlfriend and first kiss and showing interest in love. Greg has had multiple episodes with him and many different girls but Greg’s Triangle is my personal favorite because it’s shows that the series is becoming more teen and young adult oriented and dealing with more sexual situations. Jan had a few problems but by Season 4&5 she became just as hot as Marcia and boys came much easier. Cindy and Bobby only had one episode each when they became interested in the opposite sex. Marcia had many classic episodes dealing with boys especially the one where she broke her nose. Peter by season 4 became a even bigger ladies man then Greg. As you can see as the show progressed it really started to shift focus and the kids got older which ultimately let to it cancellation but years later we find out Marcia, Jan, Greg, Peter and Bobby all get married and have kids.
Clark says that all the boys at school like Jan but says Jan doesn't look much like a girl, she doesn't really dress like one. According to what my mom told me, during this time period, all girls had to wear dresses to school.
When my parents went to school the girls had to wear skirts and dresses to school. That was in the 1960s. By the time the 1970s came about that was when their school started letting the girls wear pants.
@@melissacooper4282 Somewhere in the mid 70's, I think. Near the end of the 70's, girls started wearing long skirts and dresses again. I don't know why. But then by the mid 80's miniskirts and dresses came back and I'd say this time they are here to stay.
Jan and Peter with the heart and soul of the show they were funny their charismatic Greg was cool. Marshall was stunning. Bobby was basically a little dorky kid and Cindy was just useless Jan and Peter with the heart and soul.

Jan was crazy-gorgeous and I find it hard to believe any of the boys would fail to notice this regardless of what she was wearing ! Lol
Agreed! When I first started watching the show as a six-year-old, I thought Jan was very pretty.
Even when I watched this at the same age as the actors, I was wondering what kid is clueless enough to insult a parent about their child’s sex??
Mark gruner played mike brody in jaws 2

MIKE: "But what about George?" JAN: "Oh, don't worry, Dad..." (music darkens; extreme close-up) ... "George is dead to me."
Now that sounds like the first Twighlight Zone Bady Bunch episode.
I like the fact that Jan wasn't overly prissy.
Jan was the prettiest one regardless of what kind of clothes she was wearing.
Although Jan wore Jeans in the beginning of this full episode , Jan NEVER looked like a "guy" because of her long blonde hair. LOL:)!
that hair went to her bottom

@yasminvaughn2975 I agree with you. 💗 I was an 'only child' in my family....the Brady kids were my 'pretend siblings', lol.
Eve had a multitude of facial expressions that required understanding the moment. Pay attention closely. Good acting especially for a child.
Clark is a cutie he looks like a 60's version of justin Beiber
That's actually Tom Brady. His one acting role before pursuing football.
LoL. I thought it was Bieber by some time warp testing
I think it was the '70s though
That's actually Mark Gruner. He played Michael Brody in Jaws 2
Lol...I was thinking the same thing! JB in a time warp

Production Note: Clark was not eating ice cream. It was mashed potatoes posing as ice cream. Ice cream would melt too fast under the studio lighting.
Mashed potatoes on real fruit pie, eeww!

Sebastian Franklin Shaw I think so too

Cindy's dresses were always ridiculously short.

Jan to Marcia: “So how do I look?” Marcia: “You look beautiful”. Jan: “Do you mean it?” Marcia: “No.”
