Trains at: Tilehurst, GWML, 11/08/18

A very enjoyable hour spent at Tilehurst station on the Great Western Mainline where we see plenty of services from Great Western Railway and Cross Country.
Theres not really to much to say about this station in all honesty. It offers amazing views in both directions given its such close proximity to Reading, you'll find the River Thames runs just to the left of the main station building. The actual station itself was opened in 1882 when Tylehurst was itself a village before becoming a suburb of Reading, the station hasn't really changed all that much in its lifetime, the real only changes to take place were when the electrification was starting to take shape. On average your looking at half a million passengers per year using this station.

It makes sense thst it wouldn't be super busy, it takes more than an hour to get to Paddington from there whereas Reading has frequent intercity trains that take half that

How do GWR services get to Penzance from London if Didcot is more north than London and Penzance is more south, my only guess is that they do a U turn further along the line from London Paddington

Usually you will find them leaving from Reading and then head down towards Penzance on the section of GWML that goes to Plymouth. Rarely will they go down this section of the line unless there are any diversions in place

I just found out that 8003xx are nine coach trains and and 8001xx and 8002xx are five coach trains. The more you know.

Thanks very much for saying so :) I think they are going to be excellent. Going to be interesting though to see how they operate because they haven't got a great deal of room underneath them to retro fit them diesel engines. Obviously they already have the pantograph and third rail capabilities so that wouldn't be the issue. But they are definitely going to be heavy when fully loaded with fuel. Cant wait to see how they work.
