- A very enjoyable and short stay at Taplow station on the Great Western Mainline where we see plenty of services from Great Western Railway.
There was actually more history in regards to this station than I first realised. Especially as the station itself is so small and in the grand scheme of things a fair distance away from the actual village of Taplow itself.
This station wasn't the original to be built here. The first station can be found in 1838 and was actually named Maidenhead to start with. Until the line to Twyford was built 1 year later this was the terminus of the line. After a while the station was renamed to Maidenhead and Taplow in 1854 and was just a simple wooden structure given it had no real significance. This was located to the west of the Skew Bridge that takes the railway line over the A4, otherwise known as the Bath Road if your looking at a map.
It wasn't until 1871 when Maidenhead station was opened 1 and a half miles away. Becuase of this it meant that Maidenhead and Taplow station was renamed Taplow. This station was eventually closed in 1872.
The current station was opened on the same year on September 1st. This is located 1/4 mile to the East of the old site.
The stations only real claim to fame was during WW2 when the station was used to transport tanks to the coast from the now Slough Trading Estate. Because of the weight of the tanks it meant that the road had to be reinforced with concrete and steel, some of which can still be seen in the station car park to this day.
The station went through a minor upgrade when the old footrbidge was repaired in 2006, it also allowed the station to be repainted, flower beds tidied up and the renewel of the station platform itself.
The station was due to be used by the Elizabeth Line in 2019. It is now managed by TFL Rail.
My next station is going to be Burnham.

Beautiful Tank Depot/Transport Hub, what a history. Add the habit... Favorite by far. Tanks a tonne! B.P.
There was much more that happened here than I first ever realised
Yeah, no doubt. Just the history of Troops and equipment, Food, Hospital trains etc.. Rich history! B.P.

Thanks very much for saying so I'm glad you enjoyed watching this
Yes! @Tornado922 - Visit this station every year with my dad when i'm back in the U.K - The old bridge was better and more rickety; watch out for nails from the construction from the car park on the 125 side. Station room and restrooms weren't open for a long time 2010-2015
Nice video
Thanks very much for saying so
Got to admire you for doing what you are doing going to all of these stations jarred, I maybe going to reading soon do you want to meet in person?
Well I just like having the opportunity to share my hobby with the rest of the world :) If you let me know when you are going to Reading I'll see what I can do. Although I do have several stations I'm trying to get done before then end of the year
Hi Tornado922 I've been to Taplow Station a Decade ago.
What did you think of it?
You are good at Reading the 800s numbers at speed
tbds 77 I always thought that is a fast reader
Just comes from plenty of practice of catching the numbers from the VT 390's
@@Tornado922 oh nice
Nice technique
How many more stations on the GWML where are u after
Have you looked at the description or paid attention to him saying the next station. It is clearly Burnham
@@keiranclarke2955 no I'm meaning after the GWML
@@TrainspottingTV21 oh right ok I apologize
I finished filming the GWML last weekend. So the film will be up probably during the early half of October
Burnham has great views in both directions but it's not a junction with any other line.
It was a great station when I went there
Class 800. the death of good comfy intercity travel
I have to agree with you, they are stunning to look at but offer very little in terms of comfort especially for long journeys
class 800s everywhere!!!
They are steadily becoming more and more popular along the route
Sigh. More 800 IET drivers that need to learn to run with pantograph UP in electric territory.
I'm sure they must have a reason for doing this? Otherwise the whole point of having a bi-mode train doesn't make a whole amount of sense
