@@toppyclashofclans8397 marriage was created by God. That’s why it’s so intimate and the desire for it to be a life long monogamous relationship, not ironic that it’s typically the only way it actually works. If it were just something we decided to do through evolutionary process, not many would care about adultery, it’s just mating. Who says I get to have only my husband for the rest of his and my life? How dare I be so selfish. If survival of the fittest were the most important thing, then we would want to procreate with a bunch of partners and marriage would be completely unnecessary. To some, it is. But the logic doesn’t track. You either have a marriage the way God ordained it - whether you’re Christian or not, monogamous, life long partnerships. Or you don’t and don’t need to get married at all. But that creates all types of other problems. I agree the government should have nothing to do with marriage and it should be completely religious. I understand why non religious people want to do it but only for legal reasons- if government would stay out, only people who desired what a real relationship is supposed to be would do it, because they want to, not because the law says now to separate you have to go through all this. I’m not still with my husband because the law tells me to stay but because I’m committed to him and him alone. Commitment isn’t a government attribute, that is a heart issue. Of course I’m not saying that the ONLY reason non Christian’s get married is for legal reasons but it really would be pointless if it didn’t come with some level of legal rights. As a Christian, it’s not about legal rights at all, it’s not even necessarily about “love” but commitment - which elements of love certainly fall within - but if it were arranged I’d still be with my husband because I made a commitment before God, and THAT is binding. Marriage was created to show how to sacrificially love someone unconditionally, the way Christ loves us.

Straight marriage is bad too. Stable, committed partnerships (with mutual, realistic outlets for people to explore life beyond them) are good, great in fact, but they require _adults_ who can define the parameters and stick to them, while serving foremost the needs of any children brought into the world. Think about it, a marriage's rules are enforced by law. What does that say about human nature?

he didn't say that they weren't, he said the lesbian ones were basically the *most* violent one and that there was a discrepancy implied in that they seemed to view sleeping with other people as monogamous
Sooooo if a relationship is violent they shouldn’t be able to marry? Hahahaha goodbye internet. So dumb. Hello all of the domestic abuse that happens in straight relationships.
Rate of domestic violence is irrelevant. If an individual with an actual history for domestic violence can get married than this argument is utter trash.
That makes no sense at all. The stats in both married and unmarried couples that are coming out now show that women are actually as violent, if not more violent than men. It's just men do much, much more damage when they are violent so they tend to end up in prison or severely injuring the other party.
It is not for anyone to deny another's marriage. When two people declare they are married they are, none save the people in the marriage can justly dissolve it.
Rates of violence are no reason to limit the rights of individuals to form recognized unions. You don't get to set the criteria for restricting the rights of a whole group based on the actions of some members of that group. Otherwise we'd make all relationships illegal because some *might* be violent. We'd definitely make motorcycles illegal (gangs). Sorry, you'll have to come with a better excuse for your bigotry.

It could be down to the male/female wage gap. Every now and then, I see somebody I respect spouting off statistics saying the wage gap is real, and then somebody else I respect spouts off statistics saying it's not real. It may be that on average, lesbian couples have a higher income than heterosexual couples. Advocating against homosexual marriage does not stop the violence in the relationship. What it does (in the United States) is take away legal protections that are given to domestic violence victims. It means perpetrators could potentially plead down to a misdemeanor and the state could choose not to prosecute
You can be against both
@@thesteelecrusader7778
Homosexual marriage is no threat to anyone. Are you secure in your sexuality, or do you have to actively choose to be straight everyday?
So it's better for someone to marry an abusive partner? You're braindead. A person with an abusive partner needs to cut ties as cleanly and easily as possible.
Governments and courts should not be involved in marriage or have any decisions with our children.
Totally agree, except in extreme cases -- which they need to do a better job of handling!
To what degree? In most cases, there needs to be some involvement to make sure kids are being raised to a reasonable standard. Otherwise, they'll end up fundamentalist Christians who are at risk of death from preventable illness.
As long as the government finances our school system, they will always have a say on what our kids will be thought.
Marriage is a civil act not religious.
I mean, unstable relationships are a different topic, but to persecute and arrest adult people, simply because they want to bond officially and publicly, by marriage, is in fact, discrimination over unlogical beliefs backed up by politics or religion

That makes no sense at all.
The stats in both married and unmarried couples that are coming out now show that women are actually as violent, if not more violent than men. It's just men do much, much more damage when they are violent so they tend to end up in prison or severely injuring the other party.
