Wow, here in germany the big shops sell the switch v2 for 320€ (what the swich orginaly released for) and the switch v1 + 35€ eshop cash for 300€. Thats like a total ripoff.

She did a really good job though, got the newest version of the full Switch instead of a Switch Lite or getting conned by someone online. My obsession with gaming goes all the way back to Christmas of '92 when she got me a Sega Genesis. Thanks Ma!
I might do that playing a lot on handheld mode for hours especially Pokémon for me is worth it and the cooling as well if I get one I’ll locally transfer then sell my old one for cash I play on tv mode more but I did 90% handheld mode before I bought a monitor for smash
I don't think it's enough of an upgrade for most people. I'll be still using my older version, and waiting for a much more upgraded version, if one ever comes out.
The performance test is flawed. He is just testing the load times and that only tests the storage. He needs to go to part of the game that has slowdown like the Korok Forest and see if it drops the frame rate as much.
@@SNTMadeMe same, have no clue what this was in reference to. Apparently younger me thought you should have given someone a laugh. Couple people agreed.
Loading a game doesn't test the processor, it would test the memory and/or disk read speed. You should have done a framerate comparison with an area that usually runs slow on the older switch. The screen test was good though. Thanks
only thingg i had issues with, when it came too this review... the whole reason for the new proccessor was to fix frame rates on games where there would be frame drops (totally not looking at breathe of the wild)
@@Paperclown i dont know? i got the new Switch, but i didnt have a switch before that.. i just think that it was weird to use the loading time to see if the new proccessor in it actually was faster... while its the the memory storage that takes care of the loading time. and i havent really heard much about the nvidia shield stuff. interesting tho.
Actually I have the new version but I can't stand stupidity so I'm here for the facts. 2019 model is identical to the original, only difference being the battery. All this nonsense about it having a better screen is simply false, and you can see those comparison videos where everyone gets different results. Ask Nintendo and they will tell you the same: there is no difference. Idiots paying more for the new version even tho they use it docked only....
Load times won’t change until BOTH: - an OS upgrade happens to introduce faster over locking value frequencies for the new switch - developers patch their games to take advantage of this feature Remember the over locking thing Nintendo introduce to boost load times only happened two years after the Switch released. I’m sure it will happen. But I’m not sure all games will use it since they were using the existing frequency values until now 🤷🏽♂️ Great video anyway, thanks.
I bought my switch a couple weeks before the new one was announced. I was so bummed that I could have just waited for better battery life. Oh well I still love my switch and don’t plan on replacing it.
I missed the part where laughing indicates they thought it was funny. Maybe he was just too focused on what the differences are to be in a laughing mood.
@BmoreAkuma Sure, but they did want to put it on Nintendo’s 240p handheld and Nintendo’s biggest flop of a console. It doesn’t make any sense that they’re not on switch, don’t they want to compete with Hulu?
BitByBrick Pretty sure Nintendo said they wanted to focus on games and not entertainment options, so Netflix not being available yet, has nothing to do with Netflix not wanting their service to be on Switch.
So when I went to buy one a month ago, I asked an employee which one to get and he said go with the color joy cons version, cause it's the newer version, any other one is an older version, even the game bundle version is the old one. So I'm glad I listened to him
Nice. I almost picked up the old model but asked the cashier to swap for the new one last second because it slipped my mind until I saw him ringing up the wrong colored box
The 1st wave of switches will be worth a lot more then these new ones, however i think its because it had a physical defect that allowed it to be easily hacked with a paperclip. I am sure this model does not have that issue.
Bottled Coochie also if the the new cpu runs at the same clock speeds which they do, so one wouldn’t process info faster than the other either. Surprised they even ran that part in this comparison.
@@xcrack6364 Actually a newer cpu could still be faster at the same clock speed due to processing instructions more efficiently. Just like desktop cpu frequencies have been stagnating while their performance has continued to improve regardless.
I think in this case the previous cpu was bottlenecking the storage device. Once the cpu improves it no longer bottlenecks it resulting in faster loading speed
that difference between warm and cold screens exist between some switches from the old model too... I was surprised when I noticed it playing with my friend's switch side by side.
I was thinking the same thing. They should have taken the variation in screen brightness and color shift for the old model into consideration as the differences they measured could very well be within the margin of error for those displays...
@Calocitey Nintendo have a history of not giving a fuck about consistency regarding screens uniformity between consoles with the 3ds(Color, brightness and even panel types could differ between different consoles, some times even between the top and bottom screens.), so there's quite a good chance it's just coincidence and it is the normal difference between consoles.
@@gintokishinichi8565 Honestly it is a big enough difference to say it might have brighter leds under the screen. Did someone break it down to just the screen and look at the maker?
magnawaves The distance between receptors in the GPU and CPU have gotten smaller, while the dimensions also have. Thus requiring less current to complete each clock cycle even though there are just as many receptors that compete exactly the same tasks. Imagine computers from the 80s, they were huge and unconventionally weak in power if used today, yet they are power beasts. A small raspberry zero W for 5 dollars has 10000 times give or take the power of some 80s computers, and it uses so little electricity that a singe USB port can power multiple of them.
This is correct. The hardware became more energy efficient, but the battery didn't change. It's the same 4310mAh battery in both models. Only the Lite has a different (smaller) battery (3570mAh). Source: www.nintendo.com/switch/tech-specs/
I've had issues with joycon drift which I managed to fix really easily with electrical contact cleaner (WD40 make some) after spraying that stuff under each thumbsticks rubber skirt I've yet to experience any drift any more. It was about a fiver and did the trick brilliantly. Totally worth giving a try before buying new joycon or sending them in for repair.
@@BlvkbirdObviously this was 3 years ago... The drift did eventually come back. The contact cleaner is a good temporary fix that will sort you out for a good while, depending on the amount of drift you have and the amount of wear your controller gets. Its a good thing to have for maintenance. Isopropyl alcohol also works... But for a long term fix you'll need to replace either the sticks or the entire controller. Not sure about PlayStation controllers, but newer joycon seem a bit hardier (I upgraded to the OLED model which has never drifted.) And I changed the joycon sticks on my launch day switch to hall effect sticks.
Lol “shit pull the plug!!” It took me a couple weeks to get used to Celsius when I was traveling Europe with a friend. It always surprised me how large a difference a few degrees made.
I want to see actual performance tests during gameplay, not just loading time tests. You should find some linear games that have problem spots on the original switch, places where the frame rate reliably dips, or frames drop, or resolution is scaled lower, and see if the Switch Model 2 performs better.
The drift issue won’t be fixed as long as they’re using a soft material and a hard material rubbing against each other. The metal contacts rubbing on the graphite pads release powder (which is why electronics cleaner can help, it clears the powder), but grooves still happen over time, it’s not an “abuse” issue like some people claim, it’s a flaw in the design.
So? You think being a nerd bothers me? I’m glad to be a nerd. At least I’m not a troll that has to go around trying to negatively affect someone to bring them down to my level.
Deshra Dine I’ve had my switch from launch and it’s been used by both myself and my brother for years, no issues so far, though apparently I’m in the minority
You dedication to make this video so good is awesome. The detail to show how you tested each part of the Switch like using spiltscreen on the same TV, finding out the technical brightness difference and of course your presentation is on point. Great Job!
This is actually a staple of nintendo. I remember getting a gba sp back in the day and the screen was dim. My brother got one two years later and the build quality as well as the brightness were drastically different.
7:12, you should calibrate each display to be the same brightness by measuring the knits. Having both displays on max brightness puts the new switch at a disadvantage since it is outputting more light. Also do the same with the speakers, make sure they're outputting the same amount of sound.
I'd imagine Nintendo put in a newer (more powerful) processor then clocked it down to match the performance of the old Switch so that they could enjoy lower voltage and therefore lower heat, and better battery life.
The Integra chip they have on the "old" switch is not maxed out. The issue they have is keeping the chip cool. The switch is thin and doesn't have a fan, which is bad for cooling.
@@GiuseppeGaetanoSabatelli It is a different chip. The architecture is pretty much if not exactly the same but they got a node shrink so it runs more efficiently.
While battery which is physically unable to let children play too much (assuming that parent has the only charger under controll) surely has some advantages I would say that parents should spend more times with their children. It not only decreases children desire for playing but is also good for raising them. Also instead of physicaly preventing children from playing too much it is better to learn them self discipline.
I might pick one up and gift my old one around Christmas. And I'll probably do the same with the inevitable switch "pro". Switch has quickly become one of my favorite consoles ever
It has to be , Nintendo nailed it with the switch . But AAA titles are still not our on switch so I am still sticking to my PC. But the switch pro might fix it .
@@thesash777 oh yea, switch certainly isn't the end all be all....you should have a PC or ps4/xboxo to go with it but it would be the last of my systems that I'd give away
It's good that Nintendo found a place in the market with the Switch, after not being able to fully compete with the Gamecube and the Wii U. Too bad it can't run most of the AAA games found on PS4 / XBone, but the AAA games that ARE Switch-only are awesome.
Now THIS is how you do a comparisson video! Very nice Kevin, almost convinced me to buy a new one but after checking my bank account I deff think the old one will do for now 😅
ElleNotTheMagazine I got the updated model because 1. I was able to trade in my old model for $225 at GameStop so the new one only cost $75 plus tax. 2. If I bought a portable charger it would cost just as much if not more than if I traded in my old model for the updated one. If you only play docked, then don’t bother, but if you want more time to play handheld without needing to charge, then doing the trade makes sense to me.
hey you didn't actually test whether the new switch loads graphics better or not, you just loaded a save file lmao. Go to kakariko village and see if you drop any frames, or another graphically challenging area
It's not more powerful. It's just more efficient. That being said, that makes the console indirectly more powerful, as thanks to a better battery life and temperature control, developers can push the console a little further without incinerating it or making its battery disappear.
@@llSuperSnivyll No they can't. The new device can only use the same performance profiles (clock speeds) as the old model so there will be complete parity between games running on both systems. Unless the old one gets overheated during playing and slows down as a result but that can't happen with consoles because Nintendo creates these performance profiles so that it never overheats.
I've still got the original one and even if it breaks, I'll fix it. I have no need for a newer console when I'm so used to my old one. Got mine at launch and I will do my best to keep it alive
Loading a game and checking which loads faster is not a reliable test of processing power. You are mostly testing how fast the storage and the data bandwidth.
Well they probably aren't using a new chip for more processing power, but for power efficiency. It's possible that the battery isn't even larger and that the CPU/GPU are just that much more efficient.
@@ogkandyteeff i think that's the case. But it's funny when youtube reviewers doesn't have a solid understanding on basic ideas and principles of computing..
Glad I bought it just recently, I didn't see the point buying it on release date when the good games for it would be just starting development. 2 years later I get pretty Atelier games and Pokémon sword and shield on an improved switch version with the same price as the og one. Patience is a virtue!
I woulnd't necessarily suggest you to buy one. Well, that depends on where you're from. If you're from US, then sure (for free joycon repairs), because outside of US they're not repairing them for free (my case). I also find the prices of the games really stupid. I am maybe ignorant and i'm forgetting something, but paying 100$ for a single game is a tremendous amount for me. There isn't a really large catalogue of games on it so far, and there're still some problems on it even after 3 years of its release (Joy-con drift, poor UI etc) If you wanna buy it only to play one game that you'd really wanna play, then go ahead though :) Animal Crossing in March sounds promising. But again, it hurts your wallet quite a bit 100$/game, considering PS4 you pay like 20-50$ per game. Again all this is only my opinion.
I bought mine 3 weeks ago and I’m probably 250-300 into games and accessories. I just bought my son the switch lite so we can play animal crossing together. It’s so addictive.im a die hard Xbox guy. Since I bought the switch I haven’t played my consoles at all. It’s so much fun.
what a lot of people might not know is that the screen differs, not just between the older and newer model, but in a lot of Switches, even the older versions have different displays. i don't know about the new version though. so at least when buying an older model, you really just need to be lucky to get a good screen 🙈
Oh god, Hopefully it doesn’t become like the 3ds where we got all this pointless names and thousands of “Families” for each 3ds they released. Imagine the New Pro Nintendo switch XL
i can confirm the joystick is improved the new one has an indentation on the base inside the housing so the stick will centre itself which will hpefully eliminate drift
Jeffrey7060 yeah they do I’ve seen so many complains with the old switch model they have lagging and games not working right and almost all the time the people with the new models don’t get much lag or frame drops maybe not with yours but mostly with all the old models
I only found the older version of the switch, should I get it or not ? I can’t find the new one and some people there makes me scared about the first version😕
The bundles will most likely not be updated. If the housing on the bundles is really important to you, I would buy a spare housing of it on ebay/etsy/amazon/aliexpress and then swap it out yourself.
@CallMeCalvin 0 Not only did you massacre the spelling of "cynical", you also don't know what it means. I was complimenting the outstanding quality of this video. How is that cynical?
I currently have both systems, and I don't recommend buying the new one if you already have a Switch. Only reason I purchased the new one is because my girlfriend needed a new one. After playing around with hers for a little while (not docked) I can pretty much say the only difference worth mentioning is the battery life. The Joycons on both models are identical, games obviously run the same and the screen seems just a little brighter on the new one. If you want a longer battery life for your switch get a external battery. It's a fraction of the price if you were to trade in your old switch for the new one. Not worth the money you'll lose from upgrading. Wait until the switch pro if you want an upgrade.

But they only tested one of each device, the 3ds had great potential for variety in its screens, if you think your new switch isn't as bright as the old one you should try and find a colorimeter to run tests with
Have you researched any possible differences in active game performance, in terms of frames per second? I saw a video where some people found that some games like Breath of the Wild surprisingly reached higher average FPS on the OLDER version, but considering it's highly variable in that game it was hard to say for sure.

@@xcrack6364 I was a lot more interested in seeing the frames during heavy load to see any more efficiency there.

that difference between warm and cold screens exist between some switches from the old model too... I was surprised when I noticed it playing with my friend's switch side by side.
I was thinking the same thing. They should have taken the variation in screen brightness and color shift for the old model into consideration as the differences they measured could very well be within the margin of error for those displays...
Indeed. I own 2 old Switch consoles where one has a more warm color tone and the other has a much more cool color tone.

Yup.
Yep..newer version of the processor with lower power consumption. That also explains the heat difference.
Really? That's some insane optimization for it to last so much longer, cool info
magnawaves The distance between receptors in the GPU and CPU have gotten smaller, while the dimensions also have.

The drift issue won’t be fixed as long as they’re using a soft material and a hard material rubbing against each other. This is actually a staple of nintendo. I remember getting a gba sp back in the day and the screen was dim. My brother got one two years later and the build quality as well as the brightness were drastically different.
Yea that would have been from the newer gba sp being backlit whereas the original had a front light. The difference is absurd.
7:12, you should calibrate each display to be the same brightness by measuring the knits. Having both displays on max brightness puts the new switch at a disadvantage since it is outputting more light. Also do the same with the speakers, make sure they're outputting the same amount of sound.

Loading a game and checking which loads faster is not a reliable test of processing power. You are mostly testing how fast the storage and the data bandwidth.

There isn't a really large catalogue of games on it so far, and there're still some problems on it even after 3 years of its release (Joy-con drift, poor UI etc)
If you wanna buy it only to play one game that you'd really wanna play, then go ahead though :) Animal Crossing in March sounds promising. But again, it hurts your wallet quite a bit 100$/game, considering PS4 you pay like 20-50$ per game. Again all this is only my opinion.

@@Shahaneh But when was the last time you saw a 3D Blu-ray? I really wanted Resident Evil Final Chapter on 3D Blu-ray, never happened. The 3rd Dark Knight (batman) movie I know was 3D in theaters, never had a 3D Blu-ray release. VR could have literally been 3D 2.0 but there isn't a single game on PS4 VR where you can sit down and enjoy a full length campaign in 3D VR with a controller like Uncharted 3 and Killzone 3. Wii U never had 3D support when PS3 and 360 were pushing it hard with the original CoD Black Ops and some Assassin's Creed game. 3D is no more. And I really wanted to play Battlefield 1 in 3D VR. :'-(
@@Trainboy1EJR Christopher Nolan stated the Dark Knight Rises was bot in 3D. The movie never was in 3D in theaters in amy country in the world. Not china not america.
A lot of new shows are in 3D like Disney+ Stargirl and Apple TV+ Greyhound (Tom Hanks).
You'll be surprise how many Disney+ and Apple TV original content is in 3D. Hamilton is in 3D.
Apple has not only made original shows and movies in 3D for Apple T.V. but has pre-install 3D cameras in everyone's iPhone 11 and iPhone 12. That means the new iPhone in 2022 will allow people to view their 3D photos and videos in 3D on the newer iPhones, when they release them in the future.
Netflix has started making new original films in 3D like Over the Moon, which recently premiered as a Netflix original movie on Netflix.
The 3D content is all Digital and you can watch it now if you have a 3D T.V.
Otherwise you have to wait for the T.V. manufacturers to release 8K TV's which will start being Glasses-Free 3D in 2022 or later (as soon as energy efficiency standards are met).
For phones going glasses-free 3D, its waiting on 5G being expanded and increasing in speed. We currently have 5G UW or 5G WU. They still want to make it faster for 3D streaming before making phones go glasses-free 3D.
8K TVs haven't been produced by more then 3 different T.V. manufacturers because energy efficiency standards haven't been met yet, to unleash glasses-free 3D with HDR and 11 trillion colors.
Netflix is making 3D movies and shows.
Disney+ is making 3D movies and shows (Hamilton, Artemis Fowl, Thr One and Only Ivan, Stargirl etc.)
Apple TV is making 3D movies and shows.
Phones are waiting for 5G be as fast as it needs to be.
TV's are waiting to meet energy efficiency standards before they start producing glasses-free 3D TVs.
Phones and TV companies will not release glasses-free 3D technology until the other technology (5G and energy efficiency) is there.
What more could you want, when the phone and TV technology still isn't there for 5G and energy-efficient. When 5G is fast enough phones will be in 3D. When energy efficiency is there, 8K TVs will ve release, and they will ve glasses-free 3D at that.
The phone and TV industry already rushed things back in 2010. They will never rush things ever again.
Meanwhile we are getting 90 movies in 3D in theaters every year in 2021 thru 2025. What more to hold ypu over til then, just check put upcoming confirmed 3D movies list below:

You telling me you won't go see Mission Impossible 8 in theaters in 3D when it has already been confirmed its going to be in 3D.
And about people doing 3D again. The TV and movie and phone industry doesn't care if people will do it again, because they are making all the new phones in 3D. Remember how they discontinued Flip phones and brick phones. Well, they simply discontinue Microscopic 2D phones. Smartphones are the only phones now. And 3D phones will be the only phones.
Same with TVs. They will discontinued 2D 4K TVs and only produced 3D 8K TVs.
It happened to "black & white TVs". And it happened to non-smartphones.
Don't be surprised if they discontinued tablets and mini-tablets. All the new laptops can double as a tablet and labtop. And all the new phones can double as a phone and mini-tablet via Fold-Phones.
8K media will replace blu-ray.
Plus everything is going digital now, including 3D. So physical media in all formats is dead in 10 years. You can still get 3D blu-rays of Marvel and DC movies and CGI animated movies. Go to blu-ray.com for all your 3D blu-ray needs.
@@Shahaneh I need a new 3D TV, my active shutter one is toast after 20,000 hours of use. Even if everything goes Fiber Optic, I still want physical discs. I know I saw a commercial that said RealD 3D for Dark Knight Rises. Pretty sure flip phones are still available on Tracfone at Walmart.
I haven't been to the theaters since the first Deadpool Movie, before that Guardians of the Galaxy (won a free movie pass for a local theater as part of a prize for winning a competition at a local festival). Ended up missing Resident Evil Final Chapter in theaters. My life has just been a total mess since August 20, 2013...
U are amazing g thanks a lot, u really help me out to pick up the best switch, great job keep up the good work
Next time you should use a rubber band to move the camera around instead pressing B for an hour. 👌
"Gets paid and buys a switch 4 months ago"
Nintendo : let's drop a newer version without announcing it
Cause nintendo doesnt care for their customers
Same..... but honestly it’s the same thing. And I don’t play outside much so idc. Fuck Nintendo for pulling this cheeky money idea though.
Skelter Kaito What an overdramatic crybaby
@@Echidneys lol because its true and you cant accept it
Skelter Kaito "Waaahhh, I don't get what I want because nintendo hates me, wahhh!" There will always eventually be better versions of stuff you already bought, this is not new.
The display is apparently just fluctuation in the production ... there are models of the new Switch with lower brightness and lower accuracy in the colour temp. than the original V1 Model
ControlLingOo but that can't be right? production process includes Quality Assurance. Creating same products with variable performance is a big no.
Woah This is first time watching any of your videos but I dont know if its your camera or the lighting in the room but you look super clear and crisp. Major different than other youtubers videos
Imo it seems Nintendo cut costs on the screen, somehow the older handheld looks brighter as i see it... But isnt a thing as brightness something you can edit/tweak yourself??
Edit: nevermind they tested it legit and purely on data not opinions...fair enough
The cracking won’t happen on the new switch most likely . I had my launch switch break and they replaced the backing and fan cage when it was being fixed at Nintendo. My original switch shell had a broken fan cage and cracking on the back panel, however the new one wasn’t cracked and hasn’t cracked for nearly 11 months now.
How the heck did you crack the unit ?
Soon as I seen the pebble on his arm I said "this man knows what he's talking about" lol. Very informative video !
