Hello Debbie, I know this video was made awhile back but I have been searching for different methods using embossing powders and found this. I really appreciate your sharing this information. Barbara
hey Barbara, you are more than welcome. There are loads of ways you can use embossing powder with polymer clay. My least fave is to "bloom" on the surface of cured clay as this scratches off really easily. Have loads of fun creating ♥♥
Ooooh! Love this one Debbie! Right, you little tubs of embossing powder sitting in the back of the cupboard that have never been used - you’re coming out to play!
hahaha I just mentioned to Emma that I think there are many of us that have embossing powders we've never used - and so many delicious colours hey. Thanks Judy and have fun with your powders.
Debbie, thanks for sharing this. You have put a different spin several techniques in this video and I always appreciate variable ways to do things. Beautiful results!
Debbie, that was great and your piece is beautiful. Can't wait to see what you make with it. I can't wait to try this. At least now I have something to do with those 20 jars of embossing powder that I had no idea what I was going to do with. Thank you so much for the great tutorial. I love your work and I think it's wonderful how you share it with everyone.
haha I think many of us have jars of embossing powder in our stash hey Bonnie. I just spent about 3 weeks solid trying all sorts of different things - so much you can do with them. Keep a look out for a magazine article soon. :) Huge thanks for your beautiful comment to - it means the world. xx
Love the look of this! I've been wondering how I could use my embossing powders with my clay. But particularly I love that it softens the edge of the line, all those tiny specks are just right. Can't wait to try this!
Debbie I so enjoy whenever you post a video...just not often enough...lol, I loved how that veneer turned out and I will sure give it a try! Thank you and lets sHear from you again soon!💕💕💕Jocelyn
I know just not often enough JC hahaha it's a matter of finding the time to create these videos and also finding the right kind of content I think people will enjoy and I'm happy to share. Hopefully it will be kinda soon :)
Thank you, Debbie! I like your videos! One advice if you don't mind! ^_^ When you pressing the clay into your texture stamp, I would recommend you to use cosmetic (make up) sponge - it is so helpful and the clay is not sticking to the fingers and make your work much easier! ^_^ I like to use it for many things in my polymer clay processes ^_^ Good evening!
Always love how generous you are with your experiments! Good to hear your voice too! Miss you! I probably have at least three or four embossing powder I've never used! So I was wondering, doesn't it become different when you bake it? I thought maybe it kinda melts and hardens? Would love to see that step if you do that. I just noticed someone gave you a thumbs down!!!?? Who *are* these people??? Thanks again for this. The type of cane you made is pretty much the only kind I can make! LOL So I'm glad of that!!
hahaha oh yes I'm so not a cane maker Helen -they're pretty basic the ones I do that's for sure. You know I found so many ways I could use these embossing powders - it was all about experimenting. I've been working on an article for an upcoming project so there'll be lots more information coming out soon. Miss you and your voice too honey xx
Hi Debbie. Please forgive my beginners ignorance. When you get to the end of creating the veneer do you bake the clay as per normal ? I was lucky to have found a plastic container of 10 jars of embossing powder for $5 in an op shop a while back, but haven't used any yet.
Hey Allison, great to hear from you...thanks for getting in touch. You can pretty much do anything you want to with this veneer now and then cure as per instructions for the clay you're using. Yes lucky you - that's an amazing find. There is lots you can do with embossing powder and polymer clay actually. Have fun. x
Hi Debbie, that sparkle in the black is lovely and love that technique making the stripes, pretty colours. A question though if you don’t mind, why do you shave it then cover it? It’s just it’s not showing the shaved side as you cover it with the gold blend backing and texturally it’s not making any difference as you then press it on the mat again. I’m just not understanding that step. Thanks Debbie, I’m really enjoying your videos.
oh you are soooooo good to pick that up haha There was actually no need to back with gold clay - you could have used any colour or even scrap! I'm not sure why I did this to be honest - it was a long time ago now! Thanks so much for your lovely comment - you've made my day!♥♥
I realize this video was posted 4 years ago, but I have a question. What was the reason for the addition of the gold clay and cutting it off the striped layer to only make a gray mix for backing? You can't see the gold on either side when you cut & finish the pieces, so you might as well use a scrap clay blend for the back to begin with. I really like the 3D alligator skin texture/effect you made with the black embossing powder, but would love to know why that entire gold clay process?
Hey Jan, you know I had to go and rewatch this because I couldn't for the life of me remember what I had done. You are totally right - the gold clay is quite useless isn't it haha. If I was doing this again I would simply back with additional clay to bulk up the original striped veneer prior to stamping. Funny how things change over time as we learn more. Thanks for picking this one up too Jan.
Looks gorgeous, love the effect. Am curious to see how the embossing powder looks when the clay is baked. Such a clever idea ... I have some embossing powders, been sitting around for a while. Time to dig them out!! 😊
Hey Emma, you know I think we all have embossing powders tucked away in our draws which have never been used - mine are just seeing the light of day of recent times. I guess until you sit down and play you never really know what they can and can't do. I've found with this technique the powders stay gritty - they don't "bloom". The piece I show right at the beginning is a cured piece and it looks just like my uncured piece. Good luck with your powders. x
Hey Jeffrey, I've found during my experimenting with polymer clay and embossing powders, the clay doesn't seem to like it when the powders are heated to the point of "bloom" (ie they all melt together). So I would cure this piece in the oven and then leave as is. Thanks for getting in touch Jeffrey.
thanks so much, really happy you like it. Yes this is one of Christi Friesen stamps so you could just google her and find it. Send me an email if you're having trouble and I'll help out. xx
Hi Bernice, you could if you wanted to I guess. Are you wanting to "melt" the powders? Don't forget too if you use a heat gun on raw clay you'll compromise the integrity of the clay and it could prove difficult to manipulate if you're wanting to use on a 3d object. It would be fine if your piece was flat. Perhaps it would be great to give it a try and see how it works for you. Thanks for your question Bernice.
Wow! I had no idea where you were going with this. This was fascinating! So, at the end was it ready to heat with your heat tool, or go in the oven, or what happened next?
Thanks Lynn. Sorry for the delay in responding to this message - gosh 1 year ago, that's not very good of me is it!! Anyway this is now ready to go into the oven.

Good evening!
Thanks for the tip Ludmila. I don't normally use stamps but will definitely try it next time.
Ludmila, I learned to use cosmetic sponges from you and it has enabled me to get a deep, consistent impression every time!
I'm so glad to know that!! Now I always use the sponges for my texture prints!! ^_^
Ludmila Bakulina , 😘😘😘
Hugs dear, Solange ^_^
Thanks so much...it’s going to be my next experiment. Love to do new stuff and this looks 👀 like fun.
Thanks heaps Mary, good luck with your experimenting.

@@debbiecrothers1 Ah, yes. Just had another look ... the cured piece looks fantastic, can see the texture. Must definitely have a go 🤗😊
Did you heat your embossed places with a heat gun or did you bake the piece? If you baked it, how long and what temp? TIA
Hey Mary, this just went into the oven as is - no need to cure embossing powder prior. I used kato clay for this piece and I cure my kato at 170.
Do you bake it now or hit it with a torch to melt the powder?
Hey Jeffrey, I've found during my experimenting with polymer clay and embossing powders, the clay doesn't seem to like it when the powders are heated to the point of "bloom" (ie they all melt together). awesome creation, do you remember where you purchased that unique stamp?
thanks so much, really happy you like it. Yes this is one of Christi Friesen stamps so you could just google her and find it. Send me an email if you're having trouble and I'll help out. xx
Can you use a quick heat gun to the surface?
Hi Bernice, you could if you wanted to I guess. Are you wanting to "melt" the powders? What happened when you bake this?
It pretty much stays the same and doesn't change at all.
I'm curious what became of this??? What did you do with it?
Well it's still sitting on my work table to be honest - no inspiration for it yet. I just love making them hahaha
