I got the biggest grin hearing that "Welcome to Mario Kart!" I still have my N64 with a copy of Mario Kart. . . With the box and manual. No one will play with me. . . probably because they get absolutely destroyed. I can't help that I'm very competitive.
Yeah I do plan to cover SMK as the finale but it's going to take a WHILE before I get to it due to other videos I have planned and since it's a collab getting it all planned takes time c:
Great deep dive! I am a double dash fan 😂 I have never played the 64 Mario kart but have played the snes and newer ones! Great job explaining everything :)
Nice! I think Mario Kart 64 is one of the few games that understood the limitations of that era. The prerendered sprites helps it run smoother than most games on the original hardware, there's nothing distractily low poly in the tracks, the music sounds more refined than most n64 soundfronts, and the presentation in the menus is simple but polished. Even when double dash and wii came out, i was still a little bit dissapointed about the more "blocky" look of the 3D character models and the font types used, made it look less timeless, but that's just me.
Thank you, and I agree with everything here. Mario Kart 64 has aged so well and one of my favorite aspects of it is the music. Mainly that credits theme and how nothing else in Mario Kart has quite sounded like that to me.
Everyone is a kart expert until Toad's Turnpike Extra mode
TRUE
2:27 The kart and character models are sprites in mk64.

This Mario Kart was always my favorite, these Mario Kart retrospective videos you've made are great. I hope you tackle Super Mario Kart in the future.
