In my 39 years of life I have really liked many bands and enjoyed all of them.
What I didn't know is that you can fall in love with a music band. This is what happens to me with Babymetal.
Simply watching his videos changes your life for the better.
The simple fact that something like this exists makes me regain faith in humanity.
They are a gift to humanity.

Only two singers ever bring tears to my eyes in some of their songs. Those are Lisa Gerrard of Dead Can Dance, and Su-Metal of Babymetal.
Seeing Babymetal live in "Munichi" (Germany) last year was my best live experience ever.

I think a good part of the reason a lot of us older dudes like this music is because we have learned a few life lessons and we know not to let silly things rob us of enjoyable things in life, I am pretty sure most of us can think back to where we missed out on something really cool because of misconceptions we had about it without any justification. All you have to do is let them in and your life becomes better for it

    Excellent reaction, thanks!
You totally got it. I'm almost 47, lifelong metalhead, old-school. I never ever imagined becoming a die-hard BABYMETAL fan, especially because I used to be a "metal elitist" (as we call now) when I was younger. Now, honestly, I don't care of what others may think (but if someone unfairly criticize them, they will find me). I just opened my mind and discovered them in a moment when I had lost almost all my interest in music. Now I'm a different person and I enjoy their music and their concerts.
Answering your question "is it legal to be this entertaining?" My credit card thinks it's outrageous, haha... 😁

I saw Gimme Choko years ago when it went viral and said "Oh, that's cute" and didn't really think about them again until they popped up in my youtube feed a few years ago and I fell into the Foxhole hard. And you're not wrong about the damage that being a Babymetal fan does to your bank balance. I just got home from FOX_FEST with a bag full of merch.

43 year old here and I have about the same story.
I had purposely avoided them just bc of their name for years.
Then one day I was cleaning my apartment, while listening to some metal playlist on shuffle, and either "Megitsune" or "Karate" suddenly came on, and I had to see, who that was!
Imagine how stupid I felt, and since that day around 4-5 years ago I have dived deep and only gotten more impressed day after day.
They reignited my love for metal. They made it fun to listen to again, and I am happy, I finally wisened up and got some sense.
And right now is an amazing time to be a fan of Babymetal. They are just eternally crushing it, and deserve everything good that comes their way.

I am mystified by the gatekeeping efforts against this production. Their talents and what they produce are, without question, superb. Yes, they also do something a metal band has never done, adding a clean female lead and intensive choreo, but this is what sets them apart as well as why they are credited with inventing a new metal genre. Maybe the gatekeeping is just the oft-seen negative reaction to the new. I do not think the gatekeepers are being honest with themselves, or with us.

It even happens within the BM fandom. Just look at the die hard Yui fans who keep posting pictures of the "classic" Babymetal (i.e. before 2018) and blether about "not the same anymore" or even "Yui, have mercy, come back". Seriously, it's been over 6 years since she last performed with BM, or anyone for that matter.
It's starnge though, that even the endorsement of such metal institutions like Metallica or Rob Halford will often not sway those who keep saying that this isn't metal.

@@ralfklonowski3740 good points. In my experience, the Yui base is much smaller and less vitriolic. Also, loving Yui will always be OK with me. And, at least we know WHY they’re hating on the new BM. Metal gatekeepers are almost completely incoherent in their arguments.

@@jonabitstream Until a few days ago, I would have totally agreed with you. But that changed when I saw a photoshopped picture of the current Babymetal, but with the "classic" faces attached, which of course also entails replacing Momo's face with Yui's. I was so enraged I just about managed not to lose it in public.
Prefering the old is o.k., hating the new is not. And trying to erase someone from the position she worked long and hard to reach is, at least in my opinion, a pretty severe form of hate.
If you really believe that Yui has been waiting all those years to come back and was only held back by some kind of conspiracy you probably need professional help.
And if someone keeps posting pictures of the classic Babymetal on a daily basis, pictures of young girls who in his world will never grow up into the wonderful, confident young women that gave us Kagerou, Kingslyaer and now RATATATA - what could this tell us about that person?

Great reaction. You are not wrong about their energy and the way they keep it going song after song for the entirety of every concert. This was the 13th of 15 songs at this particular show.
'Headbanger' is about a girl going to her first concert on her 15th birthday, but 15 is significant in Japan as compulsory education also ends, so the girls is realising life will never be the same. She is having to grow up, she will no longer be considered just a child and her first 15 years passed so quickly, so she etching this special night into her heart so she will never forget.
There are other versions of 'Headbanger' from special occasions as well. The Legend D concert in December 2012 for Su-metal's own 15th birthday and the Legend 1997 concert in December 2013 celebrating Su-metal's 16th birthday (same concert as you just watched, but it was the opening number) both started with a dance remix version ('Headbanger - Night of 15 Re-Mix').
At concerts on or near their own 15th birthdays in 2014 Yui (in Paris) and Moa (in Cologne) took over lead vocals for 'Headbanger' half way through when Su handed them the mic and stand - she took their place in the choreo. Only fancam videos exist for those performances.
In 2019 at the Legend M concert celebrating Moametal's 20th birthday (20 is the official age of majority in Japan) Moa once again took over lead vocals after Su handed her the mic and stand - and the lyrics were changed to "...this special night of my 20th...".
Most recently in March this year at the Legend MM concerts celebrating Momometal's 21st birthday we got her version on the day before her 21st (she was not an official member the year before so she did it to mark the last day when she was still 20).

    2. I am also 56
    3. I live at 668 so we're neighbours (and by that I'm referring to the long metal background really)
I so agree with what you said "they're not what you're used to, deal with it". They make me happy, every single time I see them. They bring something new. Genre names are for stores to put the product on a shelf in some order, they're not rules. I never got why some gatekeepers of metal are so obsessed with 'the rules'... that was never what metal or punk was about, quite the opposite, and if you follow the rulebook you're just getting a bunch of carbon copy guys in corpse paint lost in the woods somewhere in Norway.

You put it in a nutshell: They are performers. If you want musicians that are "authentic", i.e. write their own songs and sing about their lives beeing unsatisfactory, that is not what they are.
Having said that: The team behind the three girls has been really consistent over those 11 years. Their producer and choreographer have always been the same. Not sure about the songwriters. The backing band you saw here were replaced by American session musicians somwhere in 2019 for reasons unknown to me, but the new guys, often referred to as Western Kamis, have all stayed those last five years as far as I can tell. The themes of their songs also show consistency, more often than not enjoying the present, remembering the good things of the past and fighting with all your might for a better future. You could do worse.
What always baffles me is the stage presence at such a young age. Su had just turned 16, the others not yet 15. And yet, the thousands of grown ups in the audience follow their every gesture. Amazing to the point of being slightly scary.
If you should ever want to dive deeper into the meaning of the songs, I can only recommend the channel of professor AJ Heartley here on YT. He has a theatre background, speaks Japanese and in doubt asks his Japanes mother in law, AKA "The Highest Authority". He has done so called "walk-throughs" of most Babymetal songs. I think I watched almost all of them, and this has deepened my understanding and enjoyment of Babymetal's music remarkably.
"The more I see, the more I love this band." You are obviously about to be sucked into the foxhole. Welcome! Nothing to worry about; lots of nice people in here. 🤘🦊

I did not count but I'd say it's overall about 10 regular songwriters working for Babymetal and it's mostly the same people since the beginning apart from Koba only having writing credits on the first 2 albums.
Regarding the band I think the only one that was switching in and out of the Western Kami band is the bassist, they took Ryan Neft for some festivals last year and some recent shows instead of Clint Tustin who was otherwise with the band since 2019 but has been busy elsewhere recently.

    _Ban ban ban ban_ 🦊🤘🛐
    Welcome back to the Foxhole.
Answering your question, it was legal there and apparently when starting the World Tour in 2014 it was legal there too lol
This song was part of the World Tour 2023/2024, everyone love this song and were having a blast with the girls headbanging real hard in the middle section instead of the usual bowing down on their knees or having fun with the cryo smoke gun. They did it last month at San Francisco as part of Babyklok Tour along with Dethklok.
Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! is one of BM fans favorite and got special meaning too. Song is about a 15 years old girl celebrating her birthday going to her first live concert, probably metal, while having melancholy for leaving her childhood behind.
Isn't about any of our girls but they embraced this song like it was made for them, you'll find many special versions of this, even when they celebrate their 20th Birthday.
15 is an important coming of age for Japanese girls, 20 is another important date.
You'll find many more special versions celebrating their birthday, such recently last March when the new official member MomoMetal did it at Legend MM, Yokohama Arena celebrating her "20 Night", we called it "MomoBanger", and the day after her "21 Night" with another different song.
This was at Legend 1997 (that's the title of this live concert referring to SuMetal birthyear) in 2013 celebrating SuMetal 16th Birthday, and the whole concert was special, if you want to know the rest of the songs finishing this, those are:
    - "Akatsuki" Unfinished Version, a beautiful SuMetal solo version with only a piano behind, the original song is a power/speed metal balad
    - "Babymetal Death", be ready for this insane ending,
Legend 1997 was an special live concert, and along with Legend 1999 celebrating Yui and MoaMetal birthday are tied together to represent the commitment of these girls with this group, a new rebirth.
The live concert and also this song got plenty of tributes to the greatest metal bands, like Metallica and X-Japan, specially Yoshiki, the gong at the end is one of those, you'll find more and plenty of this to add to their lore. The statue behind is SuMetal resemblance and is a tribute to Metallica's Lady Justice.
The official MV is also creepy for some fans, I guess the organ gave that effect, you'll also see the neckbrace there for the first time which is a tribute to Yoshiki from X-Japan.
Another thing that you don't see so much here in their live performance is, when YuiMetal and MoaMetal are having fun with cryo or smoke gun, the choreography on this part is with them down on their knees and doing the "dogeza hedoban" which is like bowing down back and forth summoning the metal spirit represented by the neckbrace while SuMetal is standing with the mic rise up and her relentless death stare, that's another moment we called -NotACult-
The Kami Band here are insane set of elite musicians who were send to help with the metal sound, "kami" means roughly "god", they're wearing burial white robes and corpse face paint to represent those spiritual entities.
They rotate so probably you won't see some of them in all live concerts (especially the guitarrists).
    They are:
    - Míkio Fujioka, god of guitar, a beloved member, sadly he passed away in 2018. (R.I.P.), he's the one doing that sick solo.
    - Leda Cygnus, god of guitar, he's the only Kami Band member who's credited as a session musician when recording some albums tracks.
    - BOH, god of bass, he's the bald one and not only got amazing talent but her fun way to enjoy reminds me Flea from RHCP. You can see at the end (when SuMetal is crawling upstairs) his head got written "Happy Birthday".
    - Hideki Aoyama,, god of drums, he comes from a family of expert drummers, and his father is very famous in Japan music scene.
During recent World Tour 2023/2024 they got another complete different set of musicians, we called them Western Kami Band, they've been playing with them since 2019, so the Kami Band musicians aren't official members and the girls are the only front women of this group.
Next suggestion to enjoy a SuMetal solo outside of the usual happy vibes songs.
    - Rondo Of Nightmare with Mischief Of Metal Gods Intro live at Budokan 2014
    See you next time.🦊🤘🔥

Headbanger is a coming of age story about a girl sneaking out of home on her fifteenth birthday to go to her first heavy metal show. Fifteen is seen as an important age of maturity in Japan, as it marks the end of compulsory school education. The lyrics of the song talk about her recognition that she is transitioning out of childhood and into the world of adults and that this is an important milestone in her life, so she is marking the occasion by creating an experience that will stay with her for the rest of her life.
The lyrics are translated here below, and if you want to go more in depth about the meaning of the song, Prof. AJ Hartley has done an excellent video where he breaks down the meaning and cultural context of the song - ruclips.net/video/BMoS37UJpro/видео.html
    Headbanger:
With the legendary black long hair disordered around and gorgeously,
blooming crazy, this flower will soon disappear fruitlessly.
[Headbang, headbang, headbang, headbang, headbang, headbang!
    Bang, bang, ba, bang!]
Now the time has come. I no longer hesitate.
I hold tightly the discount railway tickets.
To the east, to the west, to the south, to the north,
today too I rush to the very front of the stage center.
On the left side, [Come on!] on the right side, [Come on!]
    standing up still, leaning back,
jumping toward the stage, [And then!] leaning over the fence, [And then!]
rolling over the mob, [And then!] and then all deeply headbanging.
This special night of my fifteen, I'll never forget.
All the crybabies, get out of here!
With the legendary black long hair disordered around and gorgeously,
blooming crazy, this flower will soon disappear fruitlessly.
It'll never come back again and it's so short period.
I etch in my heart this special night of my fifteen.
I jump lightly and dance in the air.
    Headbanger!
[[Headbang, headbang, headbang, headbang, headbang, headbang!]]
    [Head, head, head, head]
This special night of my fifteen, I'll never forget.
All the crybabies, from here dis-ap-pear!
This special night of my fifteen, I'll never forget.
All that disturb us, right now get out of here!
With the legendary black long hair disordered around and gorgeously,
blooming crazy, this flower will soon disappear fruitlessly.
It'll never come back again and it's so short period.

Legend 1997 was held on December 21st 2013 to celebrate Su-metal's 16th Birthday, so the song has particular resonance with that occasion. It has since become a tradition that when one of the girls has a major birthday, such as turning 20 (the legal age of adulthood in Japan) they do a special performance of Headbanger. Moa did her performance of it at Legend M in 2019, which is known among fans as "Moabanger", and Momoko did her performance of it earlier this year at Legend MM, which fans call "Momobanger". Both are worth a watch because they put their own spin on the performance that is different to Su's.
I've been lucky enough to see Headbanger live on three occasions, and it's an incredible performance to be part of live.
Well said about understanding what Babymetal is about and leaving conventional expectations behind when it comes to them.

Arguably the best live version of this song you'll ever find! And I may be slightly biased, but I think BABYMETAL had legitimacy LONG before they started doing this rash of collaborations. Although it's just my personal opinion, I think all the recent collaborations that they have been doing is to widen their fan base. This is not to take away from the excellence of the collabs, but I think they realized that their last album was a bit of a disappointment and they are trying to get that kawaii back.
In regards to the energy of BABYMETAL: first, none of these girls (at the time of this video) are above the age of 16 - that age when you have the energy of a nuclear power plant. Second, unlike many other metal bands, these ladies aren't wrung out on drugs and/or alcohol so naturally they just keep going and going and going. Third, if you understand the Japanese ethos, giving something your all is how they do things (unlike most of us lazy-ass Americans). However, I have heard that many times after their concerts, Su, Moa, and Yui would literally drop after leaving the stage with roadies putting ice packs on them.
I know I gave you some suggestions before but failed to give you the links; allow me to rectify that error:

You can use my RUclips playlist “BABYMETAL Top Twenty” (ruclips.net/p/PLdhz2aj0pt4zPl0BZLevPUR9uHKQA27uj ) as a quick link to all of these videos; it is a mix of MV’s and live performances, is more or less in historical sequence, and could be considered a road map down the BABYMETAL foxhole. If nothing else, it can be used as a reference to find high quality versions of BABYMETAL songs without mucking about.
    Keep rockin’ BABYMETAL!!!

Best comment I can say is the Supremes didn't play any instruments nor did most of the groups coming out of Motown. So why do people have to hate on Babymetal because they can't or don't play instruments? By the way, Moa plays a little guitar.

If you think about it it's a pretty common thing to have people "only" singing / performing. It's less common in rock and metal music but think about Elvis Presley or Meat Loaf, both respected performers but they had songwriters and hired backing bands.

I don't think people hate on Babymetal because they don't play instruments. They hate on Babymetal and use their not playing instruments as a nail to hang their hate on. People also get hung up on the myth of the rock/metal band. But in real life very few bands are really a cohesive and special band of brothers with a mystical bond. No doubt that Ozzy and Rob Halford got some hate when they went solo. But nothing like the vitriol toward Babymetal which I think shows the lie that it has anything to do with playing instruments.

Not sure if you take requests or not... I just discovered a band called "Castle Rat"
They sound like Black Sabbath with an amazing female lead singer.
Very theatrical, very early 70's. The lead singer Riley Pinkerton even does the Gene Simmons blood spitting routine.
Try reacting to their song called 'Fresh Fur'

No, it's not legal at all 🤣 I started to follow them almost since day one 10 years ago and my first time Live with them was in Japan in 2014 with the original trio and first album and was a blast.
Now after 4 concerts i still think that the first album was a blast and the original band "setting" was more fun to see BUT still all the production is totally out of this world, surely in Japanese shows.
And about this classic song, this one is where when the Queen order you to kneel just looking at you... you do it! Totally insane but i always kneel with this song :D
