That means a lot man! I experimented with the format a fair bit cause I just wanted to show the amp do what it does with no bs haha. I'll keep doing straight amp showcases like this, just gets to the point really quick. Thanks!
I've got one. I love it. I'm a bassist, so it's for home recording. I get everything from glassy cleans, blues breakup and crushing doom. My bass rig is orange too. I use the Orange Or15 with-Wampler Ego compressor mini, Wampler Tumnus, Earthquaker Devices Acapulco Gold, Wampler Sovereign, Wampler Terraform and Wampler Ethereal. For me, if I want to tighten anything up, The Tumnus takes care of that easily.
Are you running any pedals with yours? I saw some people talk about changing the tubes, anything youve toyed with? I basically got this amp to help get some Story So Far style tones. They use an AD30 head, I really want to get my hands on one and see how it compares to this. I have no real complaints, its just tonal palette stuff. Considering how much I've spent on amps before this is basically the price of 1-2 nice pedals, amazing!
@@ampspedalspickups - Yeah, a few pedals. Tuner that is also a mute, envelope filter because I’m weird, a phaser, analog delay, and a clean boost. I don’t need to control the space station. Lol. The JJ tubes are fine. No plans to change those unless they fail. I’ve seen others upgrade the transformers but not for me. Not much difference really. The OR15 is plenty loud. Plus it’s also pretty light weight.
Great demo finally. I owned this amp for years. My friend had the dark tiny terror. Both were at my house and I could not tell a difference between them. They literally sounded exactly the same. I've been playing 30 plus years and think I have a good ear. Made me wounder if they are the same amp.
In your opinion is the sound pretty close to the rockerverb? I don’t need all of the power of the rockerverb but I’d rather get it if it sounds better than the or15
@@lebronjames8544 I haven’t played a rock verb first hand but from everything I’ve hear I have a feeling it would suit my taste a lot better. The lunchbox amps are good value for money but I find the 30w and up amps to just have more balls to them. I’m sure if you put the or15 into a quad box it would melt your face but for my recording setup I’d want more power. Sorry it doesn’t really help but I guess it depends on your use
@@svenzia The Jubilee has great gain sounds and a very responsive EQ (for a Marshall), but doesn`t work with pedals very well. The Orange does. It`s more versatile.
@@thomas.h.kullmann Ok, i understand. I was so close buying the Mini-Jube but missed it. Never infact layed one but heard so much of it. Its wonderful, but thanks for info. Pedals is a passion. I just bought a Joyo Oxford-sound Preamp -pedal. Use it in the loop or infront of a clean good tubeamp. I love it and i love real Orange as well ofc. Big up, man! Geetings from Stockholm, Sweden
Thanks for this demo, very well done, no video shows precisely the gain knob moving around the edge of break up territory, something that im specially interested in, thanks again
For a more budget orange it sounds fantastic. Sure I would lean on a 5150 or Mesa for metal or heavier tones, but cleans or boosted tones you can really get a solid sound out of these amps. I’m an orange noob too, but keen to work with some more often.
I mean having owned the OR15 I can say it will literally go to Sleep territories of gain with no pedals. Like the amp can get ridiculously dirty and then it’s just a question of how “tight” and scooped it sounds since I assume you’re talking more modern gain sounds. Honestly I wouldn’t buy an OR15 for more modern metal sounds but I don’t see why you couldn’t tighten it up with an OD in front and an EQ in the loop
Nice! Yeah thats why I got this to try something different for once. I think I'm gonna save up and try get an Orange AD30, sell this and pay the difference kind of thing. It's a never ending obsession :)
I feel like for super high gain stuff, the EL84 tubes lack overhead. I tried several EL84 powered amps such as the Hughes & Kettner Grandmeister 40 and the EVH 5150III lunchbox and they all fuzzed out with too much gain. I know some say tubes don't change the overall sound, but they sure do change how the amp reacts to gain for sure. Great video, I feel the same way. Great for clean/crunch, not so great for big metal chugs
Yeah it just feels like something is missing, it’s so close but not satisfying in the same way. It’s fine and totally Usable but not something I’m excited to use kinda thing. I just picked up a 6505+ and have pulled the best drop tuned metal tone I’ve done, I’m so stoked on it!
When I picked up my OR15 I felt it sounded like it had a built in distortion box. I rolled in some NOS 12ax7s and it tamed the gain and smoothed it out. EL84s are chimey and does lack the EL34 mids. I gain stage with pedals through a 4x12 and this little amp is a monster.
Hello! Great video! I would like to hear your opinion: if it is possible to get the tone from the Mastodon album Remission using small heads, and if yes - witch one to choose?
Yo! My tones are more pop punk or metal, not the typical Mastadon/Orange kinda sound thats more fuzzed out/doomy. I'd have to muck around with a lot of pedals haha. Try and see if you can find the guitarists pedalboard online and have a peek at what pedals/amps they're running, its what I do when I'm trying to reverse engineer something. Good luck!
I have an OR15 in the stable. I would not call it 'entry level'. Does it have the big iron and kerrang of a 100 watts? No it does not. It does get loud enough for basement jams and small gigs especially through a 4x12. Roll some NOS 12ax7s in there to tame the gain and gain stage with ODs because it takes pedals like a champion. IMO the diminutive OR15 is the best deal going for a tube amp in today's market.
Oh yeah by entry level I mean price point it’s a super solid lunchbox amp and I never had loudness issues for recording. Never got a chance to play it in a band setting but I think it would hold up well. I ended up trading it for a Marshall tsl100 but it made me want to get a rockverb 50 at some point!
@@ampspedalspickups Right on. For the money its hard to beat. I take the little OR over this ham fisted drummers basement and run it into his 2x12 open back cab and it is plenty loud. I have bigger amps and I seem to always play my smaller amps at home. I have this 1952 Flot A Tone combo.. 24 watts. Run it into a Mesa 4x12 and some overdrives and its killer. I used to be a snob; nothing less than 50 watts.. Then the Little Amp Bug bit me :)
(it never ends)... yeah a loadbox or attenuator is a must... to run a head here into a 1x12 or 4x12 the master volume is always on 0.0001 basically a whisper off of 0, extremely tame. It’s great but I want to get my hands on the or30 after seeing all the reviews. Both great!
Young Daniel son, that is exactly why it sounds so good.
I've read that running TS / Plumes into Orange amps works well and can give you "that mastodon sound."
Oof noted!
Me: The FM3 does everything

The cleaner tone with mids pushed is where the orange amps soar IMO. The dirty sound is ok, but that mid range push with a little break up is killer.

Put a boss ge7 eq in front of it an OD pedal helps too.
I can recommend the OCD fulltone i. Front of the amp, makes a really good job a specially with humbucker pickups especially.
