@@nj1255 I’d say it depends on the metal. If you want a more modern mid-scooped prog metal tone, I’d go for the Marshall. But for thick sludgey doom metal, I’d take the Orange all day.
My ears gravitate towards the Rocker 15 Terror. To me it has a much fuller sound which is aesthetically more pleasing for my hearing preference. OR15 is nice too, though, and serves its purpose as well.
Dunno why but the OR15 just sounds a bit more open and a bit more lively in the top end than the Rocker 15, EQ seems a bit more effective and less subtle, too. If I were choosing a 15 watt I'd probably go for the OR15.
The OR15 is the First AMP I ever Had that sounded awesome straight Out the Box. Everything around 12 o.clock, got an MXR Booster in the front to Push the gain.
In resume, the Orange OR15 is better in sound by just a half cm you have to put it head to head just to notice the diference, its aesthetically better in my opinion BUT the Rocker 15 give's you more playability by switching bedroom/headroom beacuse if you can't make to much noise, and you switch to 7w is still noisy you can handle it with a volume pedal tho. Its just a matter of preference.
So to my ears they both sound like each other, but the OR15 is brighter and has more gain come in earlier. I’m really surprised they aren’t more different. Seems like you could for the most part eq them to sound the same. Like if you added a resonance control to the or15 you’d have the rocker.
Still one of the best channels which show cases the Orange Amp’s capability. OR15 to Rocker 15 Terror (Proud owner) of the latter Though there are solid state amps like Boss Katana which really is good, but nothing beats a true Tube Amp. Still playing and doodling around on this amp and this channel is a great inspiration for diff settings m
I've owned both of these amps at the same time, and the OR15 tone is exponentially better. The R15 is very good in it's own right and has a nice clean channel, but there's no comparison in the room.
Like the OR15 better, seemed more fuller and a tad clearer to my ears. Sound is different to each person. Both great amps, can't go wrong with neither one.
To me at least, the OR15 has a much more prominent upper end, and sounds kinda like a Marshall, while the Rocker 15 has a more prominent lower end and what seems like a slightly darker but fuller sound. The other thing about the rocker is that it does sound a little congested, but kind of in a good way. Everything sounds kinda closer together and makes a more dense sound, especially when the gain is cranked. Both Amos are great though this one is definitely just a personal preference thing
