i think part of it might be because he doesnt aspirate his consonants. it's noticeable with the k and t sounds in the "walk the cat" part, also with "tenderly" around 1:52

Bill's songs are uniquely good. Aside from being charming and catchy, the randomness of the lyrics makes it so I never know what will come next, so it's a really fun listen. Bill's doing the musical equivalent of doodling, and I love it.

Fun Fact: Bill’s lyrics remind me a little of a way David Byrne from Talking Heads wrote lyrics for the album Speaking In Tongues (1983). That’s the name of the album because he made the melody by singing whatever words he wanted as a way to avoid writer’s block. I agree with calling it musical doodling.
Not even just the lyrics, the composition in generally is really special and jazzy, Charles Cornell did a couple of breakdowns going in depth on what makes his music so fun.
The best part about Bill’s songs is how the lyrics are written to be nonsensical, yet they are perfectly meaningful and even relatable or funny.

What I love about Bill’s music is that they’re the sort of songs a kid comes up with on the spot in the bath but set to the kind of synth beats you’d hear in a shopping centre lift. “Bathlift” is my new favourite genre.

Bill's soft voice and chill instrumentation with lyrics that don't try to make sense just makes everything feel so simple. It's a genuinely soothing vibe that is pretty much unique to his stuff and I love it.

I have been a MEW (the band) fan for over a decade and Bill is the only artist that somehow gets that same vibe of softly sung lyrics with absolutely no specific meaning accompanied with a lovely upbeat/energetic/almost dreamy tune.
They both could release a song about impending doom and I’d still jam to it like it’s about a nice summer day with friends.
