all excellent points. the one thing i'd add is that jumping as high as possible and striking the shuttle at the highest possible point of its trajectory is an enormous aid in making this shot, so much so that i dont even bother with this shot unless i have time to jump for it. if there is no time to jump, like during a fast retreat, i will usually prefer a slice or reverse slice. jumping as high as possible to make the stop drop is effective because 1) you are striking early, 2, you are making maximum use of gravity pulling the shuttle into as steep and short a trajectory as possible, and 3) a high jump when you are perfectly positioned to smash gets your opponents to commit to receiving a smash and it is difficult for them to break from that position to go to the net quickly. if you do not jump when making this shot, keep in mind that anything short of perfection will give your opponent time to take the shuttle early and he'll have a lot of options since he is near the net

Great video. I am still mastering hitting the smash. Some of my best deceptions happened from missing the smash and then catching the ball at the last second. I wish I could do it on purpose. I am going to practice the drop shot next time.
This week's video is perfect for me, I use stop drop all the time coz my smash is so weak😢. Looking forward to applying these tips to my practice!!! Thanks!
Aloha Greg and Jenny, such an awesome video. I am so impressed by the detail and depth of your explanation of the stop drop shot. Definitely a shot to master. Understanding its mechanics and technical aspects only enhance my appreciation and awe of players like Watanabe, who execute it well. At the club level I have never seen this shot and thanks to your video I now can humbly begin to learn to not only begin to practice it, but will be able to defensively recognize it too. It is an amazing shot, it will take a while, mastery begins with a first step. Thank you so much for the keys that will unlock this devastating weapon. You guys are awesome. Stay well.
Could you please make a video about what your playstyle should be and what shots you should do against players of different heights? I'm short and find myself struggling to get a point against my tall friend.
i accidentally already used this without even knowing it was a deceptive shot XD. Video helped me get more deceptive with it . I really liked the step dsitribution.
Hi Greg and Jenny, great video as always. I wanted to ask if you could expand a bit during the hit itself. I know you should have a loose, relaxed grip at every moment before contact but on impact it looks like you lock your elbow and wrist while squeezing the grip and keeping things locked while you're following through as well. Is that correct? It also seems the contact point is slightly under the shuttle? Thanks in advance!
I'm I'm not mistaken, looks like Yuta more often plays a bit sliced drop shots (usual and reverse) and plays them at high point of contact (with downward trajectory). The plain stop drop with lower point of contact is also in his arsenal for sure. But it looks to me he uses it less often as sliced one are more effective in general.
I think you should make a video about where and how to hit the shuttle that comes to the corect place and timing, because in my play this is my biggest problem cuz i cant point the ball due to panicing
Man while doing that wall practice 2:38 i hit my racket against the wall.😂 Had to do with concentration especially when u want to stop a full swing suddenly 😵
Another superb video. Please teach me how to fake a drop that suddenly inject pace into a shooting lob that i always get caught flying pass above my head. Thanks
Hey Greg and Jenny, i saw you were using the THRUSTER F Enhanced Edition. Could you tell me what the weight balance of this racket feels like ? Is it more towards an even-balanced racket or a HH racket ? Thank you very much
Hi Simon, here is the link to our Thruster F Enhanced Edition review if you're interested - ruclips.net/video/74C8AmNWaUA/видео.html 🏸 We hope you enjoy it!
Could you do a video what sets apart a county level player from a club player, a professional player from a county level and top world class from professional player?
Yes your videos are amazing 😊 but pls make a video on shot selection like what shot we have to take in different situations I am always confuse like when to clear, smash, drop etc pls pls pls make a video on this
Hi, great video like always, really love to see badminton from the view of actually professional players. If you are looking for topics to cover, I like to know how to actually test the speed of shuttels. I know the official rules, but it is completely ignored at club level (lower leagues). The official rules talk about advanced players hitting the shuttle, but most club players take an empirically approach, that is, once they have a good 'feeling' about shuttle speed, they take the distance to the backline , lets say 150 cm (yes!) and every shuttle which flies farther, not even hitting the official area, are slowed down. I'm kind of new to badminton (3 years in a club now, lower league) and have issues to handle different shuttle speeds in league games. I would be interested in how do you , as professionals, test the speed of your shuttles outside official tournaments ? Do you have some tips to test the speed of shuttles in a consistent way ? Or how to play with slower/faster shuttles if you cannot influence the speed ?
Woah! (sees behind-the-scenes Greg) You should place one of your lifelike cardboard cutouts of Greg/Jenny behind the camera for an increase in viewers smashing the subscribe button.
i think 1 more key ingredient to stop drop in beginner/amateur level is making sure that the opponent thinks you have good hard smash so they will defend slightly backward from the mid court every time you got comfortable lifts or else they will just defend towards the mid court because they aren't afraid of your smashes and making your drop shot pointless.😁😁
I do this most of the time, but sometimes when I face agile people, the shot falls flat on me be it single or doubles. I'm trying to perfect it though.
Superb video! Been wanting to learn this shot for such a long time but had no clue where to start… NOW I DO!! Thank you 😀
You guys are really amazing and the quality of the content is really high with a little bit of humour added in. Extremely great channel, thank you

Love your videos
Great video guys and very useful. Just need to practice now. Many thanks.
I think it's can't about technique... It's about timing when you drop or smash.... Badminton is more mind game than technique
Great detailed content! You're one of the best.
Thank you so much 🤗
Great timing! This is the shot I was just saying I needed to improve. Great tips and exercises, thanks!
Ah amazing - hope this helps! :)

Seems like you r changing your racquet..?
Thank you! 😄 And maybe..... 👀
Great video, been looking for good material on this for a while. I can only dream of having Watanabe's drop in my locker!
Also, are they new rackets?
Thank you so much Adam! 😄 And maybe... 👀
Can u please tell me which racquet do you use from the Victor brand?
Man while doing that wall practice 2:38 i hit my racket against the wall.😂 Had to do with concentration especially when u want to stop a full swing suddenly 😵
Haha, yes this shot requires a lot of concentration! Even doing the wall practice 😅

Thank you very much
We would say between even and hh really! Depends what you are used to!

6:37 your this trickshot video got too much viral in India 🇮🇳 😄
Haha 😂
I do many stop drops! Well, mostly because a good part of my smashes end up with the shuttle hitting the frame... but result is the same!
Make a video on "how to pick up smash behind the back"
And tricks to impress others please...
Will definitely come at some point!!

This shot is more effective on flatter trajectory. If you are dropping it short on balls with more flight, I think there is higher chances of error.
i like your video
how do i gain speed in a game
Do you like deceptions and will you make videos about them?
Yes we love them! We've made a couple of tutorial videos on our channel already, but we definitely want to do more in the future!
@@BadmintonInsight Thanks for answer. I would like to see Peter's (Gade) deceptive lift with double action, deceptive net shots and deceptive clear.
How can i time every shot in badminton
i love drop shot ~~~ :)
I have a question how, do you take it if the opponent smashes to the chest
I do this most of the time, but sometimes when I face agile people, the shot falls flat on me be it single or doubles. I'm trying to perfect it though.
It's 5 am but hey im early!
