”Everyday the same hell, it was as though I was seeing everything in black and white. But then you arrived from nowhere and you looked up, and you spoke, and you smiled. And everything burst into color again” - Auf wiedersehen Sweetheart, George Devalier.
Lots of people think that hetalia is all just laughs and giggles, but think about how much agony and pain the countries have been through! England losing America then canada france losing Canada to England and Seychelles once she became independant, china loosing hong kong to england, Russia losing princess Anastasia, think about how much loss and grief they have gone through over the centuries...I read that to a country having their capitol attacked and destroyed felt like being stabbed in the heart over and over, how a countrys personification wouldn't be able to fight because they were in so much agony and pain. it really is sad, things that just seemed like history before since watching hetalia now feel very real, and I know I do this, I think about that it must have felt like for the countries personification! that always makes me so sad thinking how much sorrow and pain they have gone through
The one thing that keeps me fascinated by Hetalia is how unrelentingly dark it is under its cuddly surface. And this is a light take on the concept of nation-tans!
definatly! it makes it seem so real....I read a headcanon that all the magic nations preformed a memory erasing spell on the world, even removing themselves from historical documents and texts because people were blaming them for the wars and all the hard times in their countries. maybe the nations do exist but no one except their bosses and members of their households know because they are terrified of what would happen if people found out about them, scared that they would be blamed for everything that was going wrong in their country.
Interesting. Where'd you find it? It's so sad, that idea, because if the nations exist they're probably just a part of how humanity works. You don't blame a storm; why would you blame a nation?
Mitzi Rocker I just found it on google, I have it up on my hetalia page on facebook along with a bunch of other headcanons....and yea..it was interesting to think about and also really sad....to think that they might actually exist but none of us would know for sure because they are to scared of what would happen
I just graduated high school not too long ago and so many of my friends decided that they wanted to become soldiers. I have a friend in the National Guard, a friend in the Navy, and one who's been thinking about joining the army. They're getting through basic training now and everyone keeps saying how they're so proud of them. I'm proud of them too, but what I'd really like to say is that I hope they never have to fight because I would never want them to not come home.
i never payed attention to the lyrics of this song and as i sat here looking for a distraction from my math homework i heard the part where he said "now i lay in my grave at age 21" and i dropped my pencil and felt the urge to cry as i realized that the whole time the grandson he was addressing was never born because he died that day. now i want to scream and cry about the unfairness of the world but that will do no good. i can only hope and pray that i see the day where EVERYONE gets along.
dude i think its darker. I think he left his wife pregnant behind, explaining why he'd find a BOX of his things, especially pictures being pretty much the majority of what's left. Pictures don't get thrown out. By now. the kid's grandma wouldn't have too much of him anymore.
The nice thing about this song is that it's a reminder of the pain we don't have to endure because of the sacrifices our families made to protect us from them. Thank you for everything you've done.
This song always makes me cry because 'well hopefully for you, a world without war, a life full of color'. War has been in our past, it is our present, and will likely always be out future. Our lives are full of color. but the wrong ones in my opinion. the black cloak of death. the red fear that blood brings. the clear water of tears. And when I think of the fact that so many people all over have felt the pain that war causes, and yet there is so little if anything anyone can do to end it. hope
Man, I see people that look at Hetalia like it's just some dumb anime. But it's the people that watch Hetalia that actually understand what's going on in the world, and understand what countries did and why they did those things and for what purpose it served. Honestly, it's the Hetalians that will hopefully fix the world, because we actually feel the pain and sadness because we have a symbol to associate historical events with. We feel the pain, that unless we had watched this anime, or read the manga, we would never feel, or even think about feeling.
I think that this anime, or more the fanbase and their content, would be able to change how a few people view the world, but I really hope that others, that have no connection at all to Hetalia, find a reason to help saving the world :)
Back again after all these years… still remember the night my friend shoved the hetalia dvd into my hand and said dude trust me you like this…the little bugger was right…
You kno what would have been cool? If all the images were black and white up to when he said "The war was in color" the first time, and then the rest of the amv was in color.
I've never wanted to join any armed forces because I'm not very athletic and I've never thought I'd be good at it. But I've always told myself that if my little brother ever got drafted for some reason, I would go right along with him and make myself do well so I could make sure he came home.
You are the true image of a soldier, it doesn't matter the country. You're the reason I write to soldiers who don't get anything from back home. I hope you and your brothers come home safe soon and have all of my respect.
Thank you for re-uploading this. and may we always remember the pain and sacrifice of anyone who ever suffered through any war, and those who lost their family and those they loved to it. And when confronted with it, remember what a hell it is, and not romanticize it, even when we think it's necessary.
How can we remember a pain that cuts so deep below the flesh that once heals still remains as potent as the day received. Honor those who sacrifice, those who struggle and fight. No matter what the war never ends...it never ends no matter how hard one tries to move on it still remains their hearts. It's impossible to forget. It's a poison that affects the soul greater than any bullet or blade can.
Found it! The artist is Carbon Leaf and War was in Color is indeed the title of this song, hey sometimes the title is different than the hook line. What a wonderful video moved me to tears. Thank- you for posting.
Thank you for this song. It reminds me of my grandfather, he was a World War II veteran. By listening to the song it reminds me of what he talked about during the war.
I have so much nostalgia watching this... this video made me cry the first time and even now I can't help but feel a weight in my heart when listening to it
Whenever I think of all the past wars I get very sad but curious. I think of all the bad things they had to go through and what makes me even sadder is that in maybe 10 years there will be no more ww2 veterans left.
these kind of videos always make me cry but I cant help but watch them they make me step back from everything that's going on in my life, whether its stressful or not, and help me realize that at I go through isn't as bad as it seems, it reminds me that I want to leave this world knowing I helped it
Oh dude now I'm on the verge of crying I had a poker face in the beginning but I started thinking about my great uncle who died in the Vietnam war only a year before I was born and he didn't have any kids to remember him
So well said. ^^ A lot of people think Hetalia is just about making politically incorrect jokes, but it's taught me a lot as well...not just about wars and other events in history, but about the people that were and are behind it all.
I just watched some videos of people finding corpses from the downed Malaysian airliner in fields of sunflowers in Ukraine and couldn't help but think of the images in this AMV; still relevant, still heartbreaking.
Before Hetalia I was like "War is stupid.I don't want to hear anything about it.I don't want to know why it happend it is just bad. People died for this nonsense." But now I see that there is so much more behind it so much more thats worth to know..to understand I still think war is the worst thing in the world but it's also interesting But there is still war today...We should learn from the mistakes in the past. And really think about war not just go on distance...So we can act against it
makes me greatful that my great grandpa survived WWII. or I wouldn't be here. it also makes me very sad because not everyone came back home to have their family.(I'm going to cry now)
At first, I thought Hetalia was just for laughs and happiness. But now, after all these videos and pictures, I've realized how deep Hetalia can be. Imagine if there really were people who were the countries. How deeply affected they would be when there was war. And the sadness of having to live on after your loved ones as you were immortal. And countries like Prussia still existing but having to watch other countries flourish, knowing that you're not a nation anymore and that you may disappear.
You said it... I wish that they all understand what Hetalia tells us: We are all citizens of this world. We all made mistakes and we all make mistakes but we are all humans. So draw a circle and its our world... And make Pasta not war :D
I reeaally love the way Hetalia is: bright, funny - even if its sad and dramatic in some cases. But there has to be another side of this anime, another side of the wars they have fought! Like the one beyond me wrote: There has to be a soldier side, just to show the feelings a war is filled with. There ars so many fanmade-pictures telling stories of how Hetalia used to be like a little more. Just as so many pictures that were used in this video. It's so DAMN awesome! I love it!
:) I'm so happy to know that not only fangirls watch Hetalia, and that it's message is being passed on to the adults as well. Who knew Hetalia, a comedy anime, could mean so much in so many ways, right?
No one needs war, imagine a world with none of that. If every country was together, we could accomplish way more. More people would love their home, no one would have to fight. Everything would be more colourful, more happy not being reminded that they were in a middle of a war field. Imagine if everyone loved each other.
Beautiful song :') lets never forget all of those soldiers friends or foes who lost their lives because of the worlds many wars protecting their family, future and their country :')
I was actually crying by the end of this, the lump in my throat is painful and the tears are blurring my eyesight~ The part where he sings 'Now i lay in my grave at age 21, long before you were born' especially gets to me because my uncle was also a soldier and he died before i got to meet him which always gets me. I know i never knew him so i'm being silly but family is family and it hurts when i think about it nonetheless...
I Have nothing that could explain what I am thinking. You did an excellent job at this. -Claps- this video really touched me. And ever since Hetalia came into my life, I've just...thought better about the world. it seemed now more inviting to me. Before And this vid made me realise again that the world isn't such a bad place, You just gotta find the right people.thankyou so much, and you earned yourself with a subscriber. :)
Hetalia may appear to be just another show people just don't take seriously but the fans understand the greater meaning being it all we see what others don't and I hope we never forget the things we've learned so we can show the rest! - Romano
I've never posted a comment till now. This video review in one word WOW! I would like to know the title/artist of this song, tried to see if it was posted in other comments if it's there I missed it.

Hetalia: Sugarcoats everything.
Hetalia Fandom: Wanna die from sadness?
You always hear people saying they'll die for their country, never kill for it.

You sir, are a horrible person for quoting that fic.
Mandaka perfect use of a quote right there
Mandaka you made me cry.......how could you........I haven't finished reading that and you made mae cry..............monster..........

So I'm not alone in that feeling? Good. I thought I was going crazy.
and then stabbed a couple of times and then blown up

The world isn't cruel.... Its actually quite amazing. Its just the people in it that are cruel.... Hopefully more people will begin to see this.
The Dankest Derp wise words for such a weird name...I admire you, you beautiful contradiction
Well thank you. I shall now say words that might fit my user name. *Gay ass anime titties.*

Oh, don't mind me. I'm just rediscovering my history in music tastes.
I want to sing this with people in cosplay dancing/acting in the back ground and at the end have them raise their flag as I would be Earth. :)
The fandom needs to see this.
This needs to be done.

I really really love this.
This Video makes me crying. But not as sad as the other AMVs/MMVs/MEPs I've seen before. It's more like trears of happiness. I don't why.
Hetalia may appear to be just another show people just don't take seriously but the fans understand the greater meaning being it all we see what others don't and I hope we never forget the things we've learned so we can show the rest! - Romano
Dammit, I wanted a simple AMV, not this deep stuff. God, I don't want to cry. Dammit. D'x
That was a very moving tribute to a dark and terrible piece of our history. T-T I cried.
It kind of sounds like a war version of this land is your land
IT DOES
God I swear I shivered all over when he said "The war was in color".
Hetalia is sad when you see it like this ....
this is such a good song. I love it!
Where can I get the photo that comes right after 4:48 ? It's really cute!!
This AMV haunts me at night
I've never posted a comment till now. This video review in one word WOW! I would like to know the title/artist of this song, tried to see if it was posted in other comments if it's there I missed it.

I was originally born in Russia and moved with my family to America when I was only a child. My older brother, uncle and two cousins went to war here, even with them being from Russia. My brother and cousins were sent to Afghanistan and only my brother came home. I miss them so much, but I am proud that they fought for this country through and through. I don't know exactly what you went through out there, but I want to thank you for fighting, I salute you.
Thanks!
This song made me cry. It beautiful.
I thought that that line was referring to him being in a fox hole, not knowing if he was going to make it out alive or not. But yes, I do wish the world would get its head on straight and realize that you can't solve everything through war.
oh god man, what u just said hit me hard, my dad got wounded in afganistan a month or so ago
i love this so much!
P.S I liked the video too thanks for posting...
Goes back to looking for Canada...
War doesn't actually equal profit. Anyone who thinks so has never actually taken an economics class, or even basic finances.
This song hits home for me, having been to afghanistan I know what war looks like and I still have the images burned in my head. To be honest i actually found some kind of solace in the hetalia series and cosplaying as america help me to tell my story and cope with the things that happened over there.
Omg amazing and so sad
Great video I nerlay cried...
I like the darj side of Hetalia...
its a really sad and beautiful song
This is not just a song, this is a song that has meaning. These are not just song lyrics, they are lyrics that tell a story. Like if you agree.
was I the only one who cried when they saw that picture of Germany holding the body of dead Italy on the battle field D': on 1: 46 :(
Thanks for your service :D
this is beatiful
tankyouthankyoutankyou!!!!
I remember my cousin sent me a war video with this song, and she secretly slipped some Hetalia pictures into the video...

Child, leave it for the future.
But know thar you won't wish for anything else when the time comes...
