The Stingray etched Bill Mitchell’s influence and power into GM’S corporate granite.
Its rear design was startling. Peter Brocks coupe, finished by Mitchell’s lieutenant, Larry Shinoda, paid homage to the classic sporting “Boat Tail” roasters of the 1930’s.
Yet the engineering inputs had made the new cars impressive mechanically as it was visually. The Stingray benefited from the Q-Corvette project, from Mitchells race car and from Zora Duntovs pet project CERV1.
