Love this group. ELO had their biggest hits in the 70's-80's & mixed modern rock pop songs with classical overtones. Jeff Lynne wrote most of their songs. They had a lot of great hits such as "Roll Over Beethoven", "Showdown", "Can't Get It Out Of My Head", "Evil Woman", "Strange Magic", "Livin' Thing", "Telephone Line", "Rockaria!", "Do Ya", "Turn to Stone", "Sweet Talkin' Woman", "Mr. Blue Sky", "Wild West Hero", "Don't Bring Me Down", "Shine A Little Love", "Last Train To London", "Confusion", "Hold On Tight", "Twilight", "The Way Life's Meant To Be", "Here Is The News", "Ticket To The Moon" etc.
Everything Jeff Lynne touches is gold. There is a live performance you need to see. A tribute to George Harrison with Jeff, Prince, Tom Petty and more. Specifically “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”. Prince’s guitar solo is one of my all time favorites.
Everyone always talks about Jeff Lynne like he was the only one in ELO. He’s a genius, no doubt, but this was a stellar *band*. This video features the classic lineup, with Bev Bevan, Richard Tandy, Kelly Groucutt (whose harmony vocals were amazing), Mik Kaminski, Hugh McDowell, and Melvyn Gale. This group of talented musicians created the classic ELO sound we all love, not just Jeff Lynne
Jeff Lynne wrote, arranged, and produced nearly every note of music that ELO recorded. Yes, everyone you listed were great musicians, but Jeff Lynne "Created" the sound, they just played it.
@@brettfolkerth7612 I know this has been a source of great discussion/controversy over the years, and unfortunately resulted in the estrangement of Jeff from the other band members. Jeff was the unquestioned musical leader after Roy Wood departed, and as you say was responsible for writing the lyrics and main musical elements of the songs. However, he most certainly did not write every single note for all of the other band members, who added their own flair and talent to each song. So much so, in fact, that Kelly among others wanted co-writer credit for many of the songs, which led to lengthy legal wrangling and much acrimony, sadly. Jeff also did not arrange the music by himself. The string arrangements, in particular, which put the “orchestra” in the Electric Light Orchestra during this classic period, were created by Jeff, Richard, and Louis Clark (a truly forgotten member of the ELO creative team) working together. To be clear, none of this takes away from Jeff’s genius in any way. My only point is that Jeff was not a one man show, but rather the leader of a gifted group of musicians working together to create amazing music.

Ooh now do "Livin' Thing"! Another one of ELO's best! Also, you mentioned Rush and Pink Floyd, but you should also check out the Moody Blues, who have also included orchestral elements to their music, especially early on.
There’s also a tribute to George Harrison from the Beatles that features Jeff Lynn, Tom Petty, and Prince doing while my guitar gently weeps which is a must watch.
"Xanadu" was kinda pop schmaltz, as was "Don't bring me down". They were ok for pop music, not nearly as good as 99% of their other music. But that's pretty damn good to have only two average songs out of probably a hundred great ones. A lot of their music were awesome even if they weren't radio hits.
I have always felt that ELO was kind of underrated. They are a super band and definitely created their own sound. This was one of my favorite songs as a kid and still is.

My parents bought a new car, it was the first one with stereo. Old cars used to only have AM radio wit one speaker. Anyway, this is the first song I heard in stereo and it was "crazy" because so many parts of this song were coming out of different speakers. Blew my mind, as a kid, and I will always remember this song for that. Still blows me away today, in my car that I think has, like, 12 speakers.
ELO is one of those bands I never get tired of. Ya know? Like, sometimes when you hear a song think "not this again" but with them, I never feel like that. Can listen to the same songs over and over and never get tired of them. Happy music!!!
Being a Beatles fan,I hear their influence on E.L.O. Several years after the Beatles broke up,John Lennon was asked once what he thought the Beatles would sound like now days.He said,"Electric Light Orchestra".
I saw ELO in 1978 in Denver, Colorado. It was called their Starship tour and the stage came up from the ground and it looked like a spaceship with lights flashing every where. Great concert!!!
Jeff Lynne is a genius, I've just found them again on here, he's such a lovely man too. HOLD ON TIGHT is another wonderful song, well worth a reaction....
Jeff Lynne is brilliant, but a special shout out too for Richard Tandy ELO's pianist since 1971, that's almost 50 years. I always think he looks more like an accountant than a rocker but he's one of the best rock pianists ever.
ELO was one of the bands we used to play when my unit was attached to protection duties in refugee camps when I was in the British Royal Marine Commandos. We found their music was always a amazing way to reach the refugees, especially the children, by dancing badly along to the songs. The children were always the first to show us how to dance along properly, we leant that after listening the Queen's performance during Live Aid in 1985 whilst my company was in Ethiopia.
Yes! ELO! Jeff Lynne is a genius and one of my favorite singers of all time. If you haven't already, definitely give "Telephone Line," "Turn to Stone," "Livin' Thing," and "Strange Magic" a listen -- to start. So many good choices with ELO.
I love ELO , listened to them all of my 55 years. I will admit though when I was younger ( before the internet where you could explore lyrics) I used to (misheard lyrics) mistakenly sing this as "medieval woman, you're an evil woman" lol
My daily routine now consists of getting home from work, taking a shower, sit down prop my feet up and see what you guys have posted since yesterday. You two have a great look on most of these songs. If there's any little thing special inside any of the songs that you react to, it doesn't pass you by. You catch it. You two are a great couple, with a beautiful family, and have a love for music. God bless
Another banger! E.L.O. is from my mother and father's time, but I grew up listening to classic rock. "Evil Woman" was always one of my favorite classic rock songs pretty much since I can remember!
Many of the best musicians of the 70s and 80s trained in classical music in their youth, and it really comes through. After all, "classical" composers like Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt were the rock stars of their day.
The distinct sound that George Harrison had during his 80s and 90s comeback was an amalgamation of his later work with the Beatles and the work of Jeff Lynne as producer (which then, of course, eventually resulted in the formation of the Traveling Wilburys).
When i first heard this song back in the day I thought they were saying Medival woman. Later when I was buying the album, while reading the tracks on the back of the album and started laughing so hard and people looked at me like I was crazy. Didn't even tried to explain. Just paid for it went home and played it for days.
Geoff Lynne the lead singer of ELO ... beard and moustache is also a founding member of the Travelling Wilburys with George Harrison ... Tom Petty ... Bob Dylan And Roy Orbison ... all talented music legends in their own right
When he was touring a few years ago here in the U.S. , I got to see them in Philadelphia. It's a must see, the light show, music is amazing. It's ashame within some years these bands will not be touring and you will miss the most talented musicians.
"Roll Over Beethoven" is a magical rollercoaster; "Rockaria" manages to combine opera and rock; "Turn to Stone" was the first single on the same album as "Mr. Blue Sky" and is a classic in its own right.
In my day, back in the past in England, we took groups like ELO, Supertramp etc, for granted. We really did, because this was OUR staple diet of music in the '70s in the UK. How I long for those times back again.
ELO Rocked! I believe lead singer Jeff Lynne organized everything, said to be a musical genius. I agree! The mid 70s were not my favorite time for music tho this awesome group was the exception. He did a concert a few years ago still sounds great. Sweet Talkin Woman is my favorite.
They're experts at putting smiles on our faces. Watch the concert footage from their Wembley Stadium concert. It's about 80,000 people mostly older adults, everyone having an awesome time.
I saw them at the Lloyd Noble in Norman. Early 80's. Hall and Oates opened. That was a heck of of a concert. Good music. My cousin was on the floor dancing on a chair and fell off. She was fine. I was happy in the nose bleed section. Their light show was awesome.
E.L.O. is short for Electric Light Orchestra. They did a soundtrack with Olivia Newton John from the movie Xanadu. There was some great music from that soundtrack. My favorite song is "All Over The World."
I doubt we'll ever see music like this again. Watching you 2 react really gives me a new appreciation for the music I grew up with. 60's, 70's and 80's were the best
When my best friend and I were in high school in the mid-80s, we were driving around one eveing (because that's really the only thing there was to do if you were underage) and this song came. She started singing, at the top of her lungs, "illegal woman". I was laughing so damn hard that I had to pull the car over. She stared at me, like "what?' So I gently explained to her the correct lyrics and have proceeded to mercilessly tease her about for the last 36 years. (Don't worry, there's plenty of stuff she won't let me live down either.)
ELO holds the world record for the most top 40 hits ever without ever hitting number one.Yes, they're a deep rabbit hole keep reacting... ♎✌️shine a little Love and So fine( Remastered) I recommend :)))
You two need to watch them LIVE! There are some great concert videos of Jeff Lynne's ELO as recent as the last couple of years - they sound even BETTER live!
Jeff Lynne..... Musical genius. He wrote this song in one afternoon after realizing that the album they were working on "Face The Music" didn't have a "single" in it so, he sent everyone to the pub and when they got back he had "Evil Woman" ready to be rehearsed and it turned out to be his biggest song to that date. I also saw in an interview recently that he can't even read sheet music. It all comes out of his head straight to the instruments.
not one minute before Rob said it ...... I said to myself "who could even think to compose such wonderful music"? It totally blows my mind how human minds invent such great works

God bless
Exactly! They don’t create music anymore. This is awesome! ❤️
Another banger! E.L.O. is from my mother and father's time, but I grew up listening to classic rock. "Evil Woman" was always one of my favorite classic rock songs pretty much since I can remember!
You have good parents. 👍😊
Not really! Haha. They just had good taste in music!
@@J.R.Steel85 😲...sorry!
@@lindakessler8768 No worries! I'm 36 years old now... turned out alright, despite the fact!
One of my all time favorites growing up! Driving around with the radio turned up!!!
Finally some ELO! Once you get through all their Amazing music , maybe you can start listening to The Little River Band. 😁❤️❤️
Many of the best musicians of the 70s and 80s trained in classical music in their youth, and it really comes through. After all, "classical" composers like Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt were the rock stars of their day.
The distinct sound that George Harrison had during his 80s and 90s comeback was an amalgamation of his later work with the Beatles and the work of Jeff Lynne as producer (which then, of course, eventually resulted in the formation of the Traveling Wilburys).
one of the best lyrics ever - THERES A HOLE IN MY HEAD WHERE THE RAIN COMES IN - (I saw them live WEMBLEY STADIUM JUN 2017)
When i first heard this song back in the day I thought they were saying Medival woman.
Later when I was buying the album, while reading the tracks on the back of the album and started laughing so hard and people looked at me like I was crazy. Didn't even tried to explain. Just paid for it went home and played it for days.
Devil woman......by Cliff Richard......also a duet Olivia Newton John and Cliff Richard...called Suddenly.....
Love this song! This group and Supertramp were probably the best musicians playing as groups, at that time, in music!
Add Kansas to your list
@@michaelbaucom4019 For sure!
4:59 Right there, Jeff Lynne conducts........so much talent he has.
ELO were the masters of blending rock, funk, and symphony together into such a unique sound!
The way they could blend the strings and keyboards with the soft rock sound was unique. Great sound.
"Roll Over Beethoven" is a magical rollercoaster; "Rockaria" manages to combine opera and rock; "Turn to Stone" was the first single on the same album as "Mr. Blue Sky" and is a classic in its own right.
Starlight and Life in the City were ELO hits that people tend to forget about. I’ve been a big ELO fan for ages.
Love ELO. Listen to "Showdown"
One of the most underrated bands ever. They were great. Every song - great. I still have Discovery on vinyl.
Jeff Lynn said he wanted ELO to take up where the Beatles left off.
Man, doesn't that man have a gorgeous voice?
I doubt we'll ever see music like this again. Watching you 2 react really gives me a new appreciation for the music I grew up with. 60's, 70's and 80's were the best
This music is what my mom listened to when I was a kid. I am here singing with Jeff Lynne... And I always think of my mom and my childhood.
A "light orchestra" is a real thing - and ELO has always had one at the hearts of what they put out...
Got to love ELO, my recommendations next would be Strange Magic and Telephone Line are both great songs
This song and Strange Magic are my personal favorite ELO songs. 👏🏻💕
ELO holds the world record for the most top 40 hits ever without ever hitting number one.Yes, they're a deep rabbit hole keep reacting... ♎✌️shine a little Love and So fine( Remastered) I recommend :)))
"So Fine" YES!!! 💪
E.L.O is a 70's band. This released in 1975, song was played in the disco club. A lot of string instruments was great to dance to. Great reaction.
This was so much fun to dance to in mid-70’s. Saw Jeff Lynne in 2019 in Pittsburgh. Was incredible. Telephone Line was amazing live
LOVE ELO but Telephone Line is my favorite.
ELO's orchestra is freakin cool, man. 😎
One of my all time favorite songs. The groove, the strings, the vocals, the harmonies. Beautiful.
Same.
I love how Amber embraces the "Evil Woman" in herself.
"Do Ya" and "Living Thing" are my faves but you can't really go wrong with ELO.
not one minute before Rob said it ...... I said to myself "who could even think to compose such wonderful music"? It totally blows my mind how human minds invent such great works
