    I started playing only 2 weeks ago but watched and read a lot of tutorials and guides. It's the first time I finally get what the gyro angle is and how to use the RAOBF and Attack disc properly. That comment saying that the third dial in the disc is our periscope clicked it for me! Thanks so much for these videos. Please do more SH5!! You explain concepts extremely well sir!

    I've been playing Silent Hunter 3, 4 & 5 for some time and I still watch videos on how other captains carry out attacks. It never fails that I pick up little 'gems' on how to be more efficient and accur yate. This video really upped my game!! I like the way you described what you were doing and why. Thanks for doing them and I hope to see more!!

    Nice demonstration of the RAOBF tool!!!!!
    I spotted the cause of your first failed shot: at 17:03 when you tried to enter the TDC 25°, you put 32° in place!!
    it's a pity, because everything was perfect...
    PS: when you enter the AOB with this TDC, you have just below you a small dial that shows you the decimals. And you must be looking at the right color.

      @ishmobile  5 лет назад

      You're right. I did. That could be the cause. Thanks for the catch. It's always nice to have the explanation.

      @@ishmobile You're welcome. It's normal to help in this small community of submarine players.
      You use your tools very well, I hope to see other videos with more pressure (convoy with escorts in particular) ;)

    Thanks for the tutorial! 4:58 I'm probably missing something obvious, but could you clarify for me: when you use the method of speed measurement of having the ship pass a particular point on the periscope - i.e., time it takes for the ship to pass from bow to stern over a particular point, would the duration of this interval not depend on the AoB? If a ship was coming at you with a small AoB, I think it would take longer for it's bow to stern to cross a particular point vs. if it was at a flat AoB (e.g. 80 deg). I might be missing an intuition here, but it would seem that if you take a ship length of 200m from the manual, the time it takes it to cross a point on the periscope would correspond to the speed on that dial only if it were at 90 AoB.

    • @ishmobile
      @ishmobile  5 лет назад +1

      Short Answer: Yes it would depend on their AOB. I think this is one of the many reasons WWII U-boat commanders tried to get to 90 deg AOB when setting up for the shot. It reduced the number of areas they would be getting inaccuracies. This is one of the reasons I took another speed measurement at 14:20 when it is at 90 deg AOB and I get 10 kn, instead of the initial 8 kn.
      Long Answer: An AOB farther from 90 degrees would affect this measurement. As an extreme, 0/180 degrees would never cross. 90 deg AOB is by far the most accurate. On the other hand, for most reasonable distances, if everything else is close, you don't have to have the speed exactly correct. When shooting at a 200m ship, you have a lot of room for error. This is usually an accumulation of AOB, range and speed errors. These are some of the reasons shots were rarely if ever perfect. It just had to be close enough.
      Thanks so much for watching and I'm glad you found it informative.

    At 23:15 you can see the trail left by the torpedo, just missed.

    • @ishmobile
      @ishmobile  5 лет назад +1

      Yeah. I watched again after recording and realized that too. The torpedo is in front of the bubble trail and the trail is right at the bow. So close.
      Thanks for the feedback.

    Sorry for the "newbie" and naive question but I just started with this kind of simulations and especially with SH5. I have just purchased the Steam version: does this tutorial use a modded version? I think so, as I see different buttons on the upper right of the screen. Does anyone know if the Steam version is "moddable" as in this video? And in this case, could you point me to the right instructions about how to do it safely? Thanks a lot!!!

    • @ishmobile
      @ishmobile  27 дней назад +1

      Thanks for asking. Yes, this is using a mod. Yes, the Steam version is mod friendly. I would suggest you head to the subsim forums (subsim.com/radioroom) and look around there. This is in the SH5 section and it's "The Wolves of Steel", which is a Megamod with lots in it.
      The modding is a lot of effort,, but it makes the game so much better. There is a thread called "SH5 Mod Guide for Beginners" that can help you get started.

    Hi there, really appreciated the video and your explanation. I'm still struggling a bit with the atack disk, do I need to use my periscope on a 300 bearing? Would the calculations be the same If i used another bearing on the periscope?

    • @ishmobile
      @ishmobile  4 года назад

      Periscope bearing won't break the calculations. They will work whatever angle you start at, assuming you put the right ones in on the Attack Disk. The main goal with the attack disk is to setup a 90 degree shot, so you don't have to set large gyro angles.

      I'm glad! Watching it back, I want to point out that I put in the wrong AOB on my final setup (Timestamp: 17:05). I calculate 25 degrees, but I put in 30 (halfway between 20 and 40). I think this is at least part of the reason two of them miss. It could also be that my range and speed are slightly off. If it's closer or slower, they get there sooner than expected.

    I ran into a problem with the RAOBF at x6 magnification with a ship at 1600m that was too large to see the top of the mast. Do you know how to work the rings for a 1.5x magnification?

    • @ishmobile
      @ishmobile  5 лет назад

      That's a great question I didn't mention in the video. If you want to use 1.5x multiplication for the short-range shots, use the mark on the lower right of the ring, at 3 o'clock spot, instead of the top mark. The 12 o'clock is for 6x and the 3 o'clock is for 1.5x.
      Thanks for watching and reaching out.

    hey guys,
    i've got a question regarding the campaign and promotion points.
    i started the first campaign and requested the eastern costal waters mission. i finished it and got some promotion points for that.
    than i requested the mission on the west. i delivered the spy and shoot some ships two. i finished my patrol but didnt get any points for that.
    im doing the weserübung right now. after i reconed one of the ports the small symbol on ther upper left of the screen, that showed wich mission you requested disappeard. im afraid i wont get any points for this mission too, although i shoot some ships at narwick.
    what am i doing wrong?
    is it needed to request the missions or could i just fo them without requesting? will i get any points for that?
    i know there is a way to "cheat" those points, but i wanna work it out.
    would be very thankfull for your help!

    Good and clear explanation! Thanks! One question though: how can i properly attack multiple targets at the same time using the TDC? Is it possible to say put in data for each ship seperately? It looks like it can't, so i have to change the TDC data when targeting another vessel manually after firing the first shot. Is it even possible to land multiple shots around the same time on different ships?

    • @ishmobile
      @ishmobile  4 года назад

      Good question. I don't think so, but I'm not sure. I think you could take note of the settings, fire, modify them, and fire again.
      If you did that, I would suggest setting the first torpedoes to slow and the second to fast. If the range is relatively high, you would have a minute or two to get the second shot off.
      Also, if they are at similar speeds and ranges, like in a convoy, you could rotate the periscope to the new target and it would adjust the rest of the settings to match the new angle and it should be close enough. At long ranges, it would be too inaccurate, but at short ranges it should work.

    • @SBeest1
      @SBeest1 4 года назад

      @@ishmobile Yes, i was thinking the same thing. Especially for ships moving in a line formation in convoy. I think that would be the easiest. Will try this out, thanks!

    Hi! I love this game. Unfortunately I uninstalled it back in the day because it gave me a blue screen.
    This year I have decided to install it on w10, a gtx1070ti, with this megamod and ..... windows blue screen returns ...... :(
    Can someone tell me how to avoid this?
