Evan- I've only watched a handful of your videos as I recently discovered you, but what I've found is that in every single video (which are all from the past 2 years or so, for reference), you speak with understanding and confidence about your subject. There is a wealth of insight that you just effortlessly drop, without constantly glancing at a screen, without obviously reading a script - it just flows. You clearly know what you're talking about and have spent a lot of time thinking and processing your experiences into concepts that can be more easily communicated - doing the learning for the rest of us. I got a lot from this video, which reinforced some old concepts, and introduced new ones. Thank you very much for sharing your wisdom and success tips with us, Evan, and I look forward to learning more from you in the year ahead!
This is the ultimate compliment! Sometime I get worried the audience won’t appreciate videos that are more information based like this. But I spend so much time writing these ideas and making sure the concept is thought out beforehand. It makes me happy for that to be appreciated. Happy new year!
There's a lot of personal development in practicing a hobby such as photography, and making the most out of it (whatever that means to you personally). Love these kinds of videos with insights and reflections, thank you for this. Subscribed right away! ;)
I love watching most of your videos. It's curious, but I relax when I watch it. I think it's because you convey that you are a good person with direct, honest and realistic speech. Keep going.👌
Damn dude! I’ve been watching you since the beginning and I haven’t loved everything lately but I gotta say this motivation shit might be your calling. Killer video my man.
Man you’re the most motivating photographer I know. With out your channel I don’t know if I’d be the photographer I am today. Thank you. I started watching your channel when I started in 2019 and you’ve been a big help with inspiring me.
5:04 I agree and it sucks. I just wish, specifically Instagram, that they went back to how they used to be. Forcing short form content is annoying and ridiculous.
Every year I pick a new photography skill to try to learn. Last year was macro. This year I think I want to improve my video skills (they really are decades out of date). And as I commented on IG, I want to see how many days I can post photo each day. I've only quick scanned the guide so far.
Excellent video and points out areas where I could do better. I am really struggling with one part of this advice - Embracing Video. I photograph a narrow niche - pets - and usually do outdoor sessions using strobes. Among all the tasks (moving lights 3-5 times per session) and keeping the animals safe, it feels very challenging to capture video at the same time. I agree I need to do something, but I'm not sure how. It would be great to be able to hire someone to capture video during the sessions, but not sure if it would be profitable at the beginning. Perhaps I could create a specific package that includes video as part of the session. Not sure it's coming anytime soon but feel some pressure to get started.
I never say that. I take it second by second, minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day, week by week, month by month, and year by year. My God's grace, my time will come when the Lord allows it. Blessings to all
A lot of truth has been said in this video! The only thing scrolling does for me is getting me to feel like a tired mindless drone. And it's bad. The worst thing is we're the ones doing it to ourselves over...and over...and over again.
I appreciate you watching! And remember the only reason I can only make a video like this is because I’ve done all of these things at one point or another. So don’t beat yourself up if anything hit close to home, that all part of growing. Keep it up 🙌
I prefer Flickr, as I am not interested in doing video, I don’t see a reason to do it, because I have no interest. Perhaps it’s because I’m a lot older. Also, it’s somewhat of a disappointment that photography seems to be taking a backseat to video.
There’s an app called fotos that is preparing to launch soon - I’m one of the beta testers. Its aim is to showcase photographs and photographers rather than video. No idea whether it will be a success but it might be worth a try.
Hey Evan I live in Talmo I know you have taken some photos here! I have alot of family here with farms that have barns and ponds with cabins. If you want to take some pictures over here let me know and we can make that happen.
Definitely been pulling inspiration from your work and videos man! Keep up the great work, hopefully one day we can shoot together (I own the Black and Gold Leica Q2 Daniel Craig x Greg Williams)
I enjoyed the video and appreciate the solid info! I would like to disagree, though, about finding inspiration. It's absolutely true that once we start scrolling it almost always turns into a mindless time sink, but it's also true that I get inspired allll the time from photographers and other artists I follow. When I scroll on IG my time goes to probably 80% photo appreciation, 10% random, and 10% um... physique appreciation. Okay maybe it's more like 70/10/20 but my point is that I'm always seeing work I want to emulate or styles I want to experiment with. I've been trying to get better at street photography lately specifically because of the work of someone I follow, and also taking a different approach to editing because of another shooter's work. I think it's important to continually expose ourselves to art in a variety of mediums, but certainly concede that scrolling social media is best done as mindfully as possible!
Happy New Year everyone! Thanks for watching!
Happy New Year, Evan! Helpful video...thank you.
Thanks

You’ve been a big role model for me as a photographer man, you’ve taught me so much throughout the years and you’re very much appreciated for that 🤞🏼
That really means a lot! Thank you!

A sit down talk with you would be revolutionary for me it feels like lol.Great great video, and all amazing points too!Thank you for this
Damn dude! I’ve been watching you since the beginning and I haven’t loved everything lately but I gotta say this motivation shit might be your calling. Killer video my man.
I'm glad I'm no longer a content creator. Back to real work in 2024! Socal media takes away from real work in many cases.
Evan random question but where is the hat in this video from? I'd deff wanna check out more of their stuff
Getting in your own way is a wildly powerful concept that's applicable to a lot more than photography. I needed to hear that. Thanks.
Man you’re the most motivating photographer I know. With out your channel I don’t know if I’d be the photographer I am today. Thank you. I started watching your channel when I started in 2019 and you’ve been a big help with inspiring me.
That means so much! Thank you for following and supporting what I do!
@@RanftEvan you’re welcome. Wish you much more success in 2024
Love this one mate! Happy new year!
Excellent call to the realities of what moves a creative and their business forward toward sucess.. great succinct list, thank you.
I definitely needed to hear this today! Thank you.
Thank you, Evan! The last one hit home. Time to fix that.
Love the video
I don't believe in failure. If something does not go my way I've just learnt what doesn't work.
Happy New Year! Thnx for vibe! I go to shoot music video right now!
Thank you so much for this, very informative and true to facts! Appreciate the help :))
Thank you bro! I appreciate this video so much!
When you record video for social media do you record in 4k? I think 1080 would be good enough for most RUclips videos. What's your opinion?
good words man.. happy new year
Thank you! always loved your videos :D
Amazing video man. Thank you 🙏 ❤
Absolutely what we need to hear! thanks for putting up the right words and educate us, what an inspirational speech
Good video, like the advice. It seems that the critics that hurt the most are the ones I use and grow the most.
Oh man, this video is pure gold Evan. Thank you so much! :)
If I had a dime for every time one of these videos are published on RUclips, I'd quit my job and become a full-time photographer.
GEAT VIDEO AND HE IS TELLING THE TRUTH Y'ALL...... I BEEN DOUB THIS 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Dang bro; the jealousy point hit me. 👍 It’s paralyzing sometimes.
Bro! This helped so much, thank you! 🙏🏽
Good video!! Lots of solid nuggets of info in here
Just all the questions and answers I was looking for. Thanks 👍🏼

Thanks Evan, great video and advice.
Thank you!!
This was really great. Thanks, Evan.
So consistent with your motivation - amazing work man!
Just wanna share what I know, thank you and thanks for watching!
Great video Evan. I enjoy your stuff a lot.
Thanks for this one Really enjoyed it 👍
Love to hear it!
Thanks for the book recommendation =)
What hoodie brand is that? Slick!
Thank you Evan. I am definitely trying to implement more video into growing my photography business.
Hope you have a great year! Let’s all win 🙏
@@RanftEvan Yes we are winning!
True! I just need to paint, don't care about the rest. No commission work, what a relief 😅
I’ve said that too, right on January 1’st, just to find myself hospitalised few days later due to COVID…
Spot on. Start with "Why?" ... Simon Sinek.

This was huge Evan 🎉 Happy New Year man, hope you and your family are doing well. 😊
Im already scared of this video. 😂😂
Haha don’t be!
13:05 | 13:05 🎉 Was a big moment in this video.
2:55 instagram is only promoting oF creators while censoring literally everyone else haha
I always thought photographers used iPhones
I think at this point there are more content creators than people on the fking planet. Lol
I went to check out your pics, to see if you know photography, but it's just loads of pictures of you and gear.
You would greatly benefit from watching this entire video. The final part especially
@@RanftEvan I don't remember any pictures there.
Thanks for not gatekeeping🫡😂
Thank you 😊
