I just started playing again for the first time in years, and ran into some serious right under arm tension. This video is the best I’ve seen so far and was very helpful. Thank you so much!

Hi! Thank you for the clear and interesting presentation :). I would like to ask a question. I am about to start harp lessons and have a piano background. I find it easy to stay relaxed on the piano because the movement goes up and down, but I'm not so sure about the harp. I am afraid I'll develop tension. What might be the first signs of tension to watch out for? And don't your arms tired of staying up constantly? Thank you!

Thank you for your comment! As for fatigue, you will slowly build up muscle stamina, and eventually be able to play for longer periods without fatigue. Yes, it can be easy to build up tension while playing if you're not careful and aware. Watch for stuff hands, pain, and discomfort ( fatigue is different than pain ) when working on a relaxed hand position. Best wishes in your harp playing!

Hi Hannah. Thanks for your videos! I checked out your website and noticed you are also studying singing. Do you ever sing and accompany yourself on the harp? :)

      Christy,
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the videos! And thanks for taking the time to visit my site.
Yes, I just started studying voice this year. I have not yet delved into singing and playing the harp, though I would like to get there someday. Your videos of singing and harp are beautiful. You have a lovely voice, be sure to keep up the wonderful work!
Have you taken formal voice lessons?
      Hannah

Hannah DeLadurantey Thank-you for replying and for subscribing :) I appreciate your encouragement, thanks! I only started playing the harp as an adult, but I have been singing and playing with other instruments for years so that really helps. Yes I take classical voice lessons. Even though I pretty much do my own thing for my singing with the harp, it really helps to have a solid grounding and to learn good technique. I look forward to watching more videos as you upload them, keep it up! xx

***** you're welcome! Well, for just starting you're doing well at the harp. Having a musical background always helps when starting a new instrument. I thought you must have had some classical voice training and I'm glad of it. Beautiful work, once again!
I'm hoping to post another video in December, so keep an eye on my channel!

Hannah DeLadurantey Will do! Looking forward to it.
By the way, I think it's really great that you have a duo with your sister. My sisters and I have done a lot of music together over the years and it's such a special connection to have :)

***** yes! My sister and I love playing together. We're actually putting on a duo recital next week. I'm going to try and post videos from it, so you can look for those too!
