Makes sense that the kid was the one who finally got him; Omar was too good to get taken out by some gangster, too smart and wily for that, but he was sensitive, maybe even a bit naive, he'd been calling out Marlow in the streets, that kid came in, but he didn't think anything of it because it wasn't some gang banger type, and ironically, that's what got him got. Marlow didn't beat Omar. If he had to die in the game, that was a good way to go, even Omar would've had a laugh about that. Sick show.
Got to agree with all that. And at least it was quick for Omar. He never would have known what happened --- A great character thanks to the writer(s) and Michael K Williams who played him.
Flow State EXACTLY! Kennard wasn't mentally there enough to be scared or not. He was a sociopath. They have no emotion. Omar's code got him killed. Kennard was a civilian. Omar saw him come in the store when he looked in the mirror. Didn't see him as a threat
It's amazing when you go back and re-watch the show to see how little it took to build up a legend around Omar. After the first couple of times we see him, when he's still mysterious, he really starts to be humanized and relatable. It's just from those first one or two appearances that we think of him as this mythic figure. So in later seasons when we hear people yell "Omar coming!" we believe they'd all scurry away, even though we know by now he's just a guy.
Omar is a great character because he showed a level of humanity that we don't usually associate with hardcore criminals. In a weird way Omar and the other players are just chasing the American Dream the only way they know how. Michael Williams is a superb actor and I hope we see more of him soon.
My fav Omar scene is when him and brother mazoune was N the alley, "from this range with this caliber, even if I miss I can't miss" they whole convo was gold
Amen! Hope he is somewhere better and we can all meet later We just re watched the Wire fully and man it hit my heart strings hard knowing he passed but enjoyed every millisecond Funny enough….I re watched Bullet finally with Tupac and Mickey Rourke. Who is in the car with Tupac?….Wee Bay and Omar in the same crew! (Pre scar Omar too, I think because it was a kind of grainy and dark)
People who begin with "ever in history" have mostly bad taste backed by exaggerated enthusiasm. Give your reasons (I'll assume you have watched every series in T.V history).
I have not looked at The Wire as my brother had often suggested but I know him from other programs. Very well-spoken and handsome man. I'm so sorry for his family and friends' loss. May his soul rest in peace.
Great video. Hearing Michael K Williams talk about what Omar listened to on the day he died was surreal. Nice glimpse into his process too, listening to music for building characters and to feel the mood they'd be in, clever way to do it.
Great actor, unforgettable character. I recently watched the whole wire series with my dad who is in his 70s and had never seen the show. He was captivated by Omar. Great character.
He is one heck of a great actor,He was awesome in the wire and definitely was my favorite character.Hope to see him more often in other movies or shows !
Michael K Williams offers up a great bit of advice to budding actors out there... Imagine the music your character would listen to ... Most of us love music. It's a soundtrack to our lives - And if you know the music someone likes you've got a key to their inner world and soul. I don't know what Michael is doing now but his portrayal of Omar in The Wire was one of the very best TV performances of the last 50 years. You could really care about Omar -- And as sad as the end was, it was at least mercifully quick.
He played Tupac´s little brother in "Bullet".. But im not gonna front like i recognized him i actually seen it on IMDB and had to rewatch the movie and was like " Yeah... that IS Omar..". Seen him before The Wire though in "Doing Hard Time" where he played Durty Curt from Detroit... Loved his performance in "Miracle at St:Anna" too, thats a very slept on and underrated movie. If you havent seen it i really recommend it. One of the greatest war-movies i´ve ever seen.
Very illuminating when he mentions how sensitive his own character is. My experience with people like that is they are often insecure, which may explain the (tragic) drug use for Michael. A wonderful, wonderful actor and man, a devastating loss.
Watching Michael K. Williams in 'the Wire' as Omar - was breathtaking. I just loved his character - which is bizarre in itself, hoping he would survive and be in every episode. Brilliant performance.xx
I just think that the random way he died was part of the point. He had been built up by everyone into some sort of super human (like when Chris and Snoop don't even think to assume that a guy who just jumped out of a 5 story building probably hasn't gone very far), when in reality he was just a guy walking around on the streets with a gun. Someone like that probably isn't going to die a terribly glorious death.
Im glad i heard this interview cause i was in a similar situation where i was too drunk and i entertained a situation that normally i would've ignored...
As an actor myself I'll tell y'all. You have no idea how good of an actor he was. He was up there with Gandolfini. Listening to "Let there be light" in his honour right now.
The role was brilliant as Michaels portrayal of it.. A thug, gay, gangster, a modern day Robin Hood.. a man with a strict moral code.. This role was a 'mind@#$#'.. Incredible
I was actually bummed out when Omar died. I was hoping he'd be the last man standing with the final scene being Omar walking off into the sunset getting ready to perform another ripoff. Wasn't expecting his demise at all.
I have never seen the Wire until Three Days ago and it plays out everyday across our country, Chicago, St.Louis, Atlanta Etc. so for me it’s hit reality in my Youth But I was Saved by Getting a Girl Pregnant and me not wanting my child to live out the life I lived so I Grew up Over Night. I went from a Punk Kid to a Father. I have never ever looked back.
This was my friend for many years. I always told him he was gonna make it in case you don’t know Crystal Waters she’s homeless check the video out. He’s in there brother this is a Princz from Albany Project. I miss you. Rest in peace.
I know the Wire ended years ago, but come on, man...did you have to include video of Omar's DEATH without so much as a spoiler alert below? I just started season 5 and now my favorite character's fate is spoiled for me. It's just not necessary to include that particular scene. There are so many great ones that don't give away Omar's end. Please reconsider next time. Great interview. Great questions.
Too bad it got spoiled for you, but you came onto youtube watched the specials before you finished the entire series. There's always that risk with youtube.. IMO, his outcome was pretty obvious from the first season. It wasn't if but when.
come on! The title of this interview is him talking about his character role. You came looking for details in his character, and you got it. I don't think you really need to be calling out this interview because you voluntarily watched it and learned Omar's fate. fyi I was looking at this video last week and I stopped it 10 seconds in because just like you I was in season 5 and I said if I watched this I will probably have something I don't want to know revealed to me. So I stopped. Now that I finished watching it, I came back to see this interview.
the real omar little was NOT gay, they should have left that shit out of this. still a great show, 1 of the best reality shows ever. dont get closer to the streets than the wire, also checkout the corner.
Man in the space of two lines that song takes two bits from "Gangsta's Paradise". The part about lying in chalk and the Walk through the valley of the shadow of death, both.
The best character in the Wire, you feel me.
No doubt
Most Def.......
Oh Indeed
The best tv character of all time.
Yes, I said it!

"You came at the king, you best not miss"
Hey yo lesson here bay you come at the king you best not miss!!!
In my opinion; some of the best scenes are the shootouts between bay and omar. Bay gets hit by omar and then Omar gets hit by bay..fucking awesome!!
"you come" * not "came"
He was telling Wee Bey that he better not miss if he does come at him
He’s a one take actor
Kebard did not miss popped his top off

When Omar talked to Micheal in the street the kid was standing there. He asked that was Omar.

From Omar Little to Chalky White Michael K. Williams is A heck of an actor
Michael Kenneth Williams... starred in HBO's Boardwalk Empire... HBO, couldn't deny His Talent
Brilliant Actor. Omar Little is the greatest tv character ever.
His scene with Brother Mouzone in the alley is one of the greatest scenes in tv history, but the court appearance is great also...

What a tragic loss. Such a talented man and played one of the best characters on one of the best shows ever.
