Haha, I actually met him one time at a Bafta screening in London and I spoke to him about that "Where's Wallace" scene. He was pleasantly intrigued that I brought up that scene. Nice guy!
When I first watched The Wire I couldn't believe it when I found out Idris Elba was English!
Also, Dominic West who plays McNulty also done an amazing American accent.

The Wire. Fuck. Simply the best show that has ever been made. I'm late to that dance. I am EMBARRASSED to be late to that dance and I should be. I thought Sopranos and Breaking Bad was the shit...and then I watched this sadly neglected show. Epic, Shakespearean in scope set in urban Baltimore, tragic, honest, heartbreaking. I'm still getting over it.

Ppl were too busy watching the (overrated IMO) Sopranos at the time. For years The Wire had me hooked running to the couch to catch every second of it, even the "previously on" segment just in case I forgot something. HBO was living off me for a good while. I paid for HBO just to watch The Wire. Greatest tv show drama ever.
+peartist2 Don't feel bad, my wife and i are just about to start season 4. When it came out, i could not afford cable so it totally slipped me, was not till a few months ago i remembered about it, so far its a masterpiece, not sure how season 4 and 5 will be after what happened in season 3 with stringer.

Idris Elba is one of those actors that I can compare with Denzel Washington or pacino or even deniro.. One of the legends in television.. He can pull of any role if given.. He's that good.. Salute to you Sir for an amazing performance on the Wire.. Even Luther was one of the best British show..
Idris Elba is literally in EVERYTHING (well deserved though). Blockbuster films, independent films, Netflix originals, straight to DVDs, voice acting, TV shows, commercials, etc. His schedule is stacked to the bone and the thing is he does it all so amazingly great. Wow, incredible talent.
PS why can't we get an all black all star cast movie. Denzel Washington, Will Smith, Idris Elba, Chadwick Boseman, Don Cheadle, Morgan Freeman, Sam L. Jackson, Naomie Harris, Lupita N'yongo, etc.

When The Wire came out, the only people I knew with HBO were rich(ish) white people. My parents didn't have it (they weren't about to pay for that shit lol). My friend's parents didn't have it. It's pretty easy to understand why it wasn't a hit during that time.
The Wire came on in 2002 on HBO back then Sex and the City was on and dominating the ratings on HBO. My family had cable and i only watched The Wire first three seasons, then it was weak when Idris Elba left. The Wire was a sleeper hit on HBO because Sex and the City was the show that pretty much put HBO on the map
Sheree Fisher wtf after the first 3 seasons it was weak? Majority of people say season 4 was the best season. I've even seen lists saying Wire season 4 is the best season of any TV series of all time. But if you only watched for Idris I guess you wouldn't like it
