Nothing worries you guys or at least you don’t show it. They are supposed to be building a new marina near the potteries I believe. Bet that will be pricey. Great vlog guys, you make us smile and make us want to get out on corkey as soon as possible 👍
Thanks Colin, we just love new experiences, and the alternative route is a little longer 😂. Hopefully you will be out on Corkey soon and enjoying life on the cut. 👍. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍
I feel like I went back in time. I just watched the two of you do the Ribble Link with Colin and Sean from "Foxes Afloat." Obviously, you are backlogged. Enjoyed the video very much.
Revonda Hello Revonda, glad you enjoyed it, we do try to vary our vlogs as some people like music and others don’t. Must say the birdsongs was lovely. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍
Hello HW, we are a bit behind with our vlogs, we have one more before our Ribble Link Vlog with the Foxes. 🦊. All should be explained in the next one. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Nice video...very enjoyable ! Just a question....how lo does the tunnel get...? Can you still stand at the stern or are you crouching down / looking down the side to steer..?🍷🍷
Steve Hoare Hello Steve , the height of the tunnel is variable, in places you can stand but at the lower points depicted by the fluorescent paint you have to crouch a bit. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Great video as always. Did you see the skeleton on the wall of the Harecastle Tunnel ? We saw it and took a photo which I now can't find. Beginning to think it was an illusion 😉
Christine Hammell Hi Christine, can’t say we did see the skeleton on the wall, but next time we go through will definitely keep a look out for it. Perhaps it was an illusion, weird things happen in these canal tunnels 😳 Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍
Great video. Done the Harecstle a couple of times and it always seems very long. Hope you're enjoying the beautiful Lancaster canal, including our 'lovely' Lancashire weather 😉
Kath Roscoe Thanks Kath, it’s always a relief to get back into daylight ! Lovely Lancashire is a bit wet at the moment. But that’s why we are here for 7 weeks, to make the most of your beautiful county. Vlogs to follow as we are a bit back logged. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
I've read that there used to be some smaller tunnels leading to the collieries from this one, but it seems they must have been filled in years ago, I didn't see any in the video.
We did the four counties ring a month or so ago and went through the tunnel. There was just one bit where it went very narrow and low that scared me a bit the rest wasn't too bad
Robert Baxter Agreed Robert, we thought it was OK too. The four counties ring is a lovely cruising ring with a good variety of rural, urban and industrial experiences. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍
In October, as a novice, I take delivery of my sailaway and her bottom gets first wet on the Bridgewater - I then head south towards the T&M passing first through the Preston Brook tunnel, then the Saltersford, Barnton and finally, on day 3 or 4, I hit the Harecastle - I have to admit that its a baptism of fire but before I get too nervous and head off down the Shroppie, then whilst the Harecastle is clearly low, it did seem to have a reasonable width - I'm not too bothered about scuffing my bonce but I don't want to scrape my beloved hull at such an early stage - so finally to the question ... not how low is the Harecastle but how wide is it ?
Martin Bissell - How exciting, to take delivery of your new boat and get to do a great section of canal. Firstly Harecastle Tunnel isn’t too bad width wise, you should have plenty of room. Just make sure to turn all internal lights on and have a good light at the stern as well as your tunnel lights on. We found Barnton Tunnel more awkward as although much shorter is on a tricky bend. Good luck with your journey, a bit of baptism by fire with all of those tunnels and plenty of locks. 😂. Will you be solo or have you got a crew? Either way relax and enjoy ☺️. Thanks for watching 👍
Our Narrowboat Quest - thanks for the tip - I think I’ll need to invest in some decent lights to have with me on the stern - it’ll be a solo cruise so truly in at the deep end
Our Narrowboat Quest - thanks, hope I can get her home before the winter stoppages kick in - I need to lose some weight and I think this will be the ideal opportunity
Sorry John, only just found this comment! It took 40 mins to get through the tunnel. We were both ok, but can imagine even if you were mildly claustrophobic you would have problems! Thanks for watching and commenting!👍

good experience to live, but I think it would be stressful for me, but you seemed very comfortable bravo
Jean-Louis HUGE We love it, but it’s not for everyone, despite how lovely it looks it can be hard at times. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍
Really enjoy your vlogs. The commentary is good value. Keep up the good work Guy;s.
Dave Hopkins Thank you so much Dave, your comments make a difference. Thanks for watching 👍
Nice one 👍 enjoyed that. And I didn’t find that tunnel a bit scary 😱, (watching it from my armchair ) ☺️❤️❤️😘
Carol rayfield Glad you enjoyed it, after Standedge Tunnel it wasn’t too bad. 😘🥰👍xx
Wow very nice you guys made that look easy now long did it take to get through?
Becky Holmes Hello again Becky, it took about 35 mins, the average time is 30 to 40 mins. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍x
Love Tunnels the water looks red?.
david bell Hello David, the red water around the tunnel is due to the iron oxide seeping into the water from the tunnels. Thanks for watching 👍
I've read that there used to be some smaller tunnels leading to the collieries from this one, but it seems they must have been filled in years ago, I didn't see any in the video.
B-side - just found this comment, no we didn’t see any either, so likely to have been filled. Thanks for watching and commenting!👍

That’s a big first solo cruise, allow plenty of time for the Cheshire Locks(heartbreak hill) they’ll be tough going on your own. Good Luck!!
Our Narrowboat Quest - thanks, hope I can get her home before the winter stoppages kick in - I need to lose some weight and I think this will be the ideal opportunity
How long did it take to get through this tunnel? did you feel a little claustrophobic passing through the tunnel? good videoing well done. John NZ
Sorry John, only just found this comment! It took 40 mins to get through the tunnel. We were both ok, but can imagine even if you were mildly claustrophobic you would have problems! Thanks for watching and commenting!👍
AMAZING TO THINK THOSE TUNNELS WERE DUG BEFORE MACHINERY WAS THOUGHT OF SO A LOT OF SWEAT AND HARD LABOUR....
Most definitely, I think that they may even been a couple of deaths! Thanks for watching and commenting!👍
:-)
C G Thanks for watching 👍
