  • I made a proper schoolboy mistake during the tuning of the radio.......
    I come from an era when MW and SW bands were recieved on a ferrite core aerial inside the radio.
    Had I bothered to put the aerial up I would have got plenty on AM and a few stations on SW.
    That said, if this depends on a flimsy little 'car aerial' to recieve and 9/10 they eventually snap off, you'll need a bit of wire attached to it to recieve anything.
    I'm rating it 6/10 inspite of my stupidity because also it is clearly not waterproof, which for a device of this type, should be top of the list.

    Holy cow! The rechargeable batteries here in the states basically look like a very large AA battery..🔋 that “battery” there is nuts! 😧..I have one of these radios and this is a great informative video..😎👍

    I think this is a great little device for what it is. I've had one for years, and have used it during power outages. It may only supply a trickle of power, but it is indeed better than nothing. Radio functions work fine with the antenna up. The crank is more useful for keeping the radio on than charging a phone, but I have other backup devices for phone charging. And the crank will give you enough of a phone charge to make a call or two.

      When I did my review I forgot to put the antenna up as I am used to the days of a ferrite rod inside to tune to am/sw

    No built-in 8-track player? Unacceptable. 😇 Good review, but always dubious of the battery in these things.

    • @Super8Rescue
      @Super8Rescue  Год назад +1

      The battery is a disgrace, I could do a video where I buy an 8 track from ebay and melt out half of the case and solder a few wires on to random contacts and wander off in to the wilds of Wales with a camping gaz cooker and some Sinatra on tape. ... .

    How do you know when it’s fully charged the is no indicator to let you know it’s fully charged

    • @Super8Rescue
      @Super8Rescue  8 месяцев назад

      Charging over USB gives an indication, red for charging, green for charged. The indicator is the middle of the indicators to the left of the am/fm/sw control. I think you only get an indication when charging via a wallplug and usb charger

    So...I got this free with my bank points, so I can't complain. But I'm going to...
    So, for me, since I'm in the middle of a rural area, the radio stations I get are few and extremely statically.
    The power crank gives energy that only last for a few minutes...and sometimes not even that.
    As far as the aaa battery life.. they last a total of 5-8 hours depending on the type of battery. Energizer works the longest.
    The volume is great! So is the light. And alarm.
    But even after charging it in the sun with the solar panels....it died pretty quick.
    I'd have to give it a 4 out of 10 based on the battery life and crank and solar power longevity.
    Still looking for a really dependable crank radio for times of emergency.
    Cheers.
    God bless you all.😊

      It's done quite well on a full charge for me, I haven't given it a serious wank on the handle to charge and clearly the solar panels aren't going to give it much to play with....
      Mine's been in a drawer since I bought it, it was a 'just in case' we had the expected power cuts last winter.

      @@Super8Rescue I used to use mine when I went out to my little garden. Because it's too far away from my house to draw an extension cord.
      And I know it only uses AAA batteries if you're not using solar or hand cranking, I just expected them to last a little bit longer. Because I'd be in the garden for maybe 3 hours on Monday and maybe 3 hours the next day and by the end of the next day the battery was completely drained.
      When I started buying expensive batteries and it would give me another hour maybe two hours but it's never lasted longer than that. And I've taken it to the park and I've taken it to a little sand beach on awake and I was just so shocked at the fact that I just kept saying, I just put batteries in these things a few days ago where is all the power going?
      Basically I bought it for emergencies. I just didn't realize how much you had to crank the thing to actually get it to run for just a few minutes. And I suppose that's all I would need but if there was a major emergency, I wouldn't be able to get much information off of a few minutes of cranking.
      Again, I did get it for free so I really can't complain.
      But I would like to find something that you don't have to crank for 30 minutes and just to get three or four minutes of use... LOL
      It's exhausting....ha ha

    Its not that bad for what you paid for it. I would have to agree with the fact that the battery should be easier to replace. I had one that the battery was killed in about a year and a half.
