Just an excuse to have a 12yo Stevie Wonder playing harmonica to some Kris Badger Ark Royal shots. Music. The Square from the 1962 album The Jazz Soul of Little Stevie.

Another clip from the Raymond Hoare cine collection. My best guess is that we are seeing Ray cross the street holding two bottles of cola. Standard 8mm film with colour correction.

Tom Wilkinson Legend, a lager than life character who we are still watching almost 50 years later, to see him get so emotional when he see the Ark Royal at the breakers yard "Its People that make ships" and War-Canoe a line and half..
That man is a good example of a Senior NCO.. He is tough and fair!
"war canoe"?
The Era when we had a better Navy
What a ledgend ..top bloke.
Oh that brought back memories. Sods operas during patrol of Rhodesia.
can't beat a sods opera
What a superb video so memories when we had a navy beforevwilson and healy destroyed it
I am pleased you enjoyed watching...
The last scenes with the remains of ARK are so poignant. Unless youve served youll never understand how much the men and women of the armed forces give to the nation. Its not just a job. It's literally blood, tears, sweat. It's anger, frustration, love and joy. It is a wholly unique feeling to be part of it and to feel at one with your Ship, aircraft or team. There is no feeling like it in the world.
My Father served on Ark in the 60s he was upset when we watched that back in 76, None of the old carriers survived which I know money is made in scrap, but there could have been one museum ship to those glory day, nothing remains but a few planes in buildings of a museum but no full carrier saved is sad to me. Not even the Harrier jet ships. Yet they have saved a handful in the states of theirs.
Is it frame to frame?
no. this is ripped from dvd. Peter Ritchie had his 8mm cine put on to dvd some years back.
such a great watch
Discipline and courtesy will bring you far in life. That is what the boss was teaching. The men may not have realised it, but given an education when speaking to the man. Song at the end is an Irish drinking song
I seem to remember my father being his messman on the Albion 1964. My brother and I went exploring where we shouldn't have during the commision service after lunch in a ward room. Brown for Archie!
Back before UK HM forces was a woke shit show
happy days
That would be 4th June 1966, we transitted the Suez Canal in company with the Royal Yacht Britannia
I visited Port Said in 1995. I thought it was a nice sleepy city. Refreshing after the chaos that is Cairo.
Thanks for posting this film. I was in 50 Squadron REs and helped build the runway at Stanley in 1982. Recognise many of the faces, the guy cutting the cake was our OC Major Jeremy Harrison. Great memories, thanks again
you're welcome. A time in my life I won't forget.
Been there completed it mate!
😄👍👍
I break out with this song every so often...
That definitely brought back memories from close to a half century ago. I did my short training stint at VA-174 from November, 73 to February, 74 and on to the VA-83 Rampagers from February 74 to June, 77.
If only we had that in 82.
Correction: The button just below the counter can switch the speed between high and normal, but apparently only in stop mode - it's hidden in plain sight.
The ship's log of HMS Eagle shows that on the 14th of September 1968, she was fuuled by RFA Olwen and HMS Arethusa was also fueled simultaneously. If this is indeed the date, my father in law was on board as well, serving as XO.
My uncle was playing in the band for this.
If you go to Fleet Air Arm Museum they have a mock-up of this ship. I was 12 or 13 and lucky enough to go to sea on her for a family day. Still feel this was one of the best days i ever had. She was moored off Torpoint/Millbrook for a while before being towed away for scrap. I watched her go. So sad.
I kept looking for my car. I was there 78-80. AIMD AO shop
I left June 26, 1978. I was an AX with VS-31. Depending on when this was filmed the sky blue VW Bug might be mine.
Remembering uncle Dave. Thank you.
Remembering HMS Glamorgan today. RIP 🌹.
compare this to more recent stuff on the RN and Army - it's gone totally civvy in their interactions now. Sad. Mind you that RN officer should be charged with wearing a HLS on his head - shape that bloody beret sir.
yes please. I'm running ubuntu. seems like the menus are different in linux for audacity. under the file menu there is no choice for normalizing, Under the effects you can normalize one track. I want to do batch files. Thanks
I am unable to make a tutorial right now, but this tutorial shows you how to set up a macro. Instead of using effects as in this example, you would choose normalise and export ruclips.net/video/BIkEaFFQfEY/видео.html
If only she'd lasted a few years more the Argentinians might have decided NOT to invade the Falklands after all. That alone would've been well worth the expense.
Spectacular!! Absolutely stunning, keep up the photography,it needs to be treasured!¡
I wish it was my photography, I am just here to save the cine. This cine was filmed by Fleet Chief Ray Hoare in 1966. I was still in short trousers in 66. Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much! Your film stock is a treasure. It's best of the best resource for my time travelling for the afternoon.
Thank You Eric
What a lot of civvies wouldn't understand is how all the crew of a ship like Glamorgan really are very close and are a part of the ship, like on huge family . It would have ben like burying 13 family members at the same time.
even more so on small ships. Ark Royal and Illustrious lads were my sea family and we all thought the world of each other.
I remember the Falklands as a child and joined the RN in 1989 . The guys who went to the Falklands really were and still are the absolute best of British men . After redundancy , I was given a job by an ex army warrant officer who served in the Falklands and he told me the Royal Navy was held in very high regard by the army for supporting them through very tough fighting while taking enormous punishment. His words ' what the Navy went through to be there for us was hell , I wouldn't have wanted to be on one of those ships, unable to do anything '.
I had several meetings with the commander at Portland. One of them was the MOD Police tried to charge me to speeding through the dockyard at 60 mph in a VW beetle and they collared me on the hill going up to the accommodation area. I was at the table and pleaded guilty to speeding but no way near 60 mph. I expressed to the commander that I would have been astonished if my car would have done that speed. The commander agreed and I was admonished. Happy dayz. 😁😁😁😁😁
And it was a steep old hill
The days of the Big Grey War Canoe - long gone : (
I could never miss the Captain Kremin series with all it's silliness. Loved Kenny on Capital
My first ship Dec '74 to Jul '76
I joined her in 76 as they filmed the Sailor series. With 892 squadron
👍
Great footage. Thank you❤
Thanks for watching
@@Super8Rescue you're welcome. Have a blossom beautiful moment
There’s nothing like Kenny him since sadly
My Grandfather was a Royal Marine, Arctic Convoy and D Day Veteran. And did some sneaky stuff in Norway. I made sure this was played at his funeral...RIP Mate always my hero...
They had chinamen on board doing the laundry. LOL. I love the old days.
One of the greatest ships in the royal navy when Britain was britan it was a shame that she was scrapped.if only she was a musem ship just like what the yanks got.
Sunset also to Chief PO Tony Chambers- 15/7/37 to 26/4/24. Dad xxx bless him and all who sailed with him. Ark was his last RN ship mission.
Chief PO Ark Royal Tony Chambers- 15/7/37 to 26/4/24. My Dad. God bless him and all who served with him. Xxx 🫡🇬🇧
"returning onboard drunk" 🤣 most of us entire 925 ratings of HMS Tiger C20 1972 to 1975 we're highly skilled in the arts of coming back drunk !! In fact father rutter came back one night in Pompeii walked up the gangway collected his station card went across the deck and straight into the oggin on the other side and the lifeboat crews were actually scrambled to save him tied up alongside and that is a fact. Father Rutter was a Stoker who had been in the mob forever in the 70s and was part of the ship itself. There's a racy 9-minute tribute on my channel but hey regardless of anything else I wouldn't change those years for all the money in the world !
BZ skin
I joined the Ark in the builders yard in 1955 as a killing stoker.
you lucky lucky bastard
