    Just cleaned 14 years of dust out of my OCZ600SXS after an intermittent noise became a permanent one. As it was only a small amount, I used bike chain lubricant. It could have been the sheer amount of dust on the fan causing the noise. Thanks for this video. I wouldn't have even attempted this, but you explained everything so well. Life in the old dog yet.

    thanks for the video, I've taken mine apart and cleaned the inside, added new oil etc - I was initially planning on swapping the fan as I have 4 case fans spare but the plug was bigger than the original fan, is there a specific fan I need to buy for a PSU or can I get a converter of some sort? so that it fits into the 3 pins on the PSU - I'm hoping that cleaning it will help but it's about 8 years old so a new fan would be the ideal fix, or a completely new PSU

      Thank you for your feedback! If you wish to support the channel, you can like, subscribe, or both!
      Regarding your question, you need to measure the fan from one screw hole to opposite in x shape that that in inches is the size of the fan and if not you can get any 12' and use zip tie to hold it, and if your original fan has two wire that is DC 12v and if it has 3 then is dc power step and if it has 4 then it is pwn fan, but most fans are the 12v.

    I have a EVGA G3 1000W with a 130mm fan. Under the sticker of the fan it looks not like yours. It's a sleeve bearing fan, so can i remove the blades and lubricate it from the other side?

    • @uFixTek
      @uFixTek  3 месяца назад +2

      🫠Regarding your question, if under stick it doesn't have access then it is a push down blade and you need to pull it up EVENLY from other side and it will POP out with a light force. drop one or two drops of oil and you set to go.

      Thank you for the feedback! if you wish to support the channel you can LIKE or SUB or both :P
      regarding your question: when you power on the PSU it will consume what the motherboard or components require of, if your CPU and HDD and GPU in total pull 400watt then you only consume 400W not the 750W. i always recommend to get 850+ even your GPU CPU need 400W , this way the fan noise of PSU stays low and last longer. but servicing the fan or changing it's a good idea when you pushing the PSU to its max load.

      @@uFixTek Thanks man. Will check it out. Anyway, yesterday I changed the grease to my current PSU cooler. and Now I'm noticing that CPU (i7 9700) is getting really hot 80 which makes my Case really hot, because it's AIO is getting hot. I haven't even touched my CPU or it's cooling. Is it possible that PSU is not getting cooled enough and this is causing my CPU to go lava?

    • @uFixTek
      @uFixTek  Год назад

      the PSU must have a good exhaust fan because it does help to vent the case, it sucks the air out of the case, so its important to clean the PSU fan, therefore yes it can have a effect of CPU cooling.

    Good video. However, I wonder if the proof of repair is totally convincing : the noise happened when the fan was in downwards position, and tested after repair un upwards position... I suspect the problem was related with the big slack that was obvious, which got probably reduced or removed when repositioning the fixing washer. Worth trying anyway but I would rather recommend changing the fan, knowing a brand new fan typically fails after 2 years, so I wouldn't bet on a refurbished one...

      regarding your question: i do this for living and after servicing the fan, even in its right position or upside down the noise goes away. this is a cheap and rather fun learning thing people can do and save money in process. OR you can replace the fan with a better brand and a quieter fan like Noctua fans. i appreciate you feedback and comments if you have any question or request feel free to ask me anytime. :)

      @@YK-dx4ux I meant "a brand new POWER SUPPLY fan... after 2 years of non stop use'. These fans are low cost ones. Since the PSU fans are typically speed regulated, the MTBF can also depend on the average load. I manage a pack of ~10 PCs and I had the failing PSU fans at least 6 times in the last 6 years. The PSUs and some old HDDs are the weak links. The fact there are videos about this problem shows it clearly happens.

    Didn’t you put the fan backwards? Shouldn’t it pull the hot air out?

    • @uFixTek
      @uFixTek  2 месяца назад +1

      🫠Regarding your question, any/all PSU always suck the air in and blow to the back where the cable connection is and the power switch.
      that is why the air filter in cases are always in front of the fan, because the air has to pass throw the dust mesh.

    • @uFixTek
      @uFixTek  9 месяцев назад +10

      no manufacture in any kind likes that anyone open their products. they always encourage to not open!
      but that doesn't mean that you can't open and fix your issues, instead of paying a store to do it for you.
      again if you worry about high voltage or can't follow steps exactly i highly recommend you, do NOT open it.

    • @uluhitah12
      @uluhitah12 7 месяцев назад +4

      You can open PSU, but it will void your warranty. But if the warranty is expired, you can do anything. The thing to concern is high voltage still available in capacitor, so do not open PSU immediately after unplugging as electricity still stored in capacitor, better to wait 15-30 mins before open it, or wear safety equipment like gloves and sandals, don't open with bare hand.

      Regarding your question, I have been working with electronics for over 17 years, and the biggest concern is the use of air cans for electronics. They can be harmful, especially for laptop motherboards, as they expel a lot of humidity and moisture. I recommend using a compressed air blower instead.

    Isn't it really dangerous to open a PSU? You should probably at least let it discharge for a day before. And shorting two pins doesn't sound great either, especially if you get the wrong ones I suppose.

    • @uFixTek
      @uFixTek  2 года назад

      thank you for the comments, and YES its very dangerous to open the PSU! without any guide, or lack of following instruction. if you or anyone have a slight problem of following instruction then DON"T watch this video. ELSE IT'S TOTALLY safe if you follow the steps i show you in the video.
      regarding the shorting the cables, that part its VERY safe you can't harm you self if you make a mistake, the PSU has a OC (over current protection), the worse you can do its damage the PSU but not your self.
      as i mention do not touch any other componentes in the PSU!

    • @uluhitah12
      @uluhitah12 7 месяцев назад

      I think 1 hour is enough for big capacitor to discharge, you can also test with multimeter to make sure it safe to work with power supply. And always remember: do not immediately open the power supply after shutting down the PC because capacitor still storage electricity for a while and the voltage is very high can go above 200v and can make you electrocuted.
