Nice job - sometimes you don't want to take things apart just to have parts flying out everywhere and realize you're in over your head. So it's nice to see what all is involved

I notice there is no plastic shield on half of the fan. Other power supply units have that plastic sheet/shield. Is it necessary to have it if it came with with it?

Thank you for the feedback! if you wish to support the channel you can LIKE or SUB or both :P
regarding your question: the reason for that is to direct the air flow, it is important to keep the shield in the same place and not extend it. else you will have a over heating and burnout.

regarding your question: then you have partial dead psu on the main board it has a few capacitor make sure they are not inflated, and or they could have a bad transistor :( its very hard to diagnose your issue over text not having the same PSU model in front of me to test the components :( give me the exact PSU model let me see what i can do.

@@uFixTekthanks for the reply.. i have a liteon model number ps-5301-08ha 300 watt... it happened after 2 of the positive wires touched for a second or two.. i was in the process of turning it into a bench power supply and testing the outputs .. the capacitors look fine

oh boi if that happened then you for sure have a blown transistor ( the transistors are the one touching the heat-sink aluminum), let me see if i can find anything near that model then i can show you what to look for.

@@ryan-ue2vr yes there are many voltage rails in the power supply.
