- FunDuhMentals: How to set up your snowboard bindings with Danny Kass
Your stance on a snowboard should be about shoulder width, with approximately 15 degrees of angle on your front binding and around 0 degrees in the back. Experiment and find what's most comfortable for you, in the end it's individual preference.
Bindings and boards have standardized mounting systems, and almost all are are compatible. If unsure, consult a local shop.
Determine your stance width. It should be comfortable and generally a bit wider than your shoulders. Use the distance from your kneecap to your heel for a standard stance width.
Mount your front binding with 15 degrees of positive angle. This is a basic starting point, and it helps open your hips for initiating turns.
Mount your back binding at 0 degrees.
Follow the reference stance on your board.
If you want to ride park, center the stance on the board and add negative angle on the back binding. This creates a slight “duck” stance for riding switch.
Set your stance back to create a longer nose and more float for powder days.
As you progress, experiment with your stance and find what’s confortable-more angle, less angle, wider, narrower, etc. Each adjustment fits your riding style to the board and to the conditions.

just watched this freshly stoned and feel inspired to re-do my set-up
bro literally i had the idea to do it stoned
Hahaa that’s why I came here
we are living the same life
When your stoned your more tuned in to your movements and thoughts😎
Literally stoned in about a change my set-up to
I know this video was shot in 2014, but thanks for making the video. It has a ton of great information for a newcomer into the snowboarding realm! ;-) Moving to the mountains soon, so this helped a ton! Thanks !
He’s wrong. He’s duck. You should be too. Front foot should be at +15 or + 12. Then fiddle with the back foot angle and always duck.
that is an explanation I've been searching for a long time! thanks!
Always thankful and appreciative of all yall do
Manufacturers typically center the inserts on the sidecut (which may be set back from the center of the board). Go symmetric on the inserts from the center until you hit your stance width as a first try. Shift back from there if your nose sinks or back leg burns too much in powder
Thank you for this video it really is a big help for beginners like me!
Just picked up the Union flight pro’s love them so farc
Thanks danny great tips your a awesome boarder for sure
You explained the best for sure
Thanks! Good tunes and informational
I went to my local store and they put my bindings on backwards 😂😂
What's then name of the store??
That's horrible...
I would shit myself
Best things is to read up or watch a cpl videos to invest a lifetime into yourself wo paying aomeone else who dont even know what there doimg
Maybe they thought you looked “goofy” 😂😂😂
Sweet! Thanks!
I think rather than using the binding pucks with the slots running lengthways on the board, it is more important to use them with the slots running across the board to let you get each binding centred on the board and avoid toe or heel drag. Especially if you're using different angles on each like the 0* 15* shown here. Stance width and setback can still be adjusted using different positions on the binding holes. Maybe if you ride an even duck stance and need a wider stance than your board provides, then run the pucks with the slots lengthways.
My board is 156cm and I couldn't get a small enough gap between the binding with them vertical. I'm 5'6" and my knee to foot gap is 19" and the smallest achievable gap for me is 20" and 21" with the pucks vertical. It also leaves me with 20" 1/2 on the tail and 20 3/4 on the nose so idk, sounds good to me. Lets go!!!
Damn I miss Nike snowboard boots!! I can’t find one boot to fit my foot these days. Vans come closest but they don’t have that perfect all mountain freestyle but can charge big mountain too. The Infuse is a bit too burley but close.
dope vid bruh!
thank you!
What is the title of that tune in the background? Thanks for the great infor in setting up my first board.
I just bought my 1st one and i only paid $17 for it!😂. It's in very nice shape. Minor scratches and wear
Thanks for the advice I had my bindings backwards. Hahaha
Hey first time on here. Can we talk about the blazers?!? Those boots are tooo noice
Can you change the binding angles once you put them on
Legend
Thats cool, if you want to euro carve lol just go centered & 15,-15 or 12,-12
Carving would be more like +30 front foot, +45 back foot.
Does someone know whats the guitar tune at the beginning when Dannys name is shown?
So if I'm not a beginner then what do i do i can carve and go of some small jumps i will use this for now but im looking for alot of control im using a fast board not much forward lean on my bindings they are also made for speed
I have a very mean pressur point on my front foot right on the spot where the toe strap ratched is... even if i dont tight it much.
is that a camber hybrid board?
What is the background song?
Hi, i have some question. I don’t know which side is head and tail of my board?
Great video!!
I was told when I was young that you also want to line up your high backs bottom edge evenly with the heel edge of the board. I was waiting for this step but Danny never mentioned it, is this true?
Where did Danny Kass go?
My friend lives in China and helps run the factory that makes those bindings...
Can I have some for free?
***** LOL I am still waiting for mine...
digiprez7
Union bindings are made in Italy...
@@ezzybro1 think he ment onion bindings
Let’s get baked 😎 and then tear the mountain uuuuup!
I've pretty much mastered my regular stance and am ready to start learning to ride switch. Should I change my binding configuration? Maybe have both at 0° so it doesn't matter which is my front/back foot?? Anyone have tips or suggestions from their experience?
I would look up on the internet and try out a lot but I wouldn’t do 0degrees on both because it will make snowboarding a lot harder. I would put them in duck stance that the most easy stance for switch and regular so both bindings have the same angle. I would recommend +15 and -15 to start with. But never put your bindings more than 30 degrees difference from each other because the chances are high for knee injury and I don’t think it would ride nice.
@@sophiecalon7429 thank you, I'll try that out
Go 12 -12 :)
hi
I'm 6'4" and my board is 160cm. I have my bindings at -15, 15. How far apart in inches should they be apart? I think I have them at 18 inches apart from the center of each binding. Is that too small of a width?
@Anthony Ransom thanks brother. I actually have them 24 inches about, which is a little bit wider than shoulders apart and they feel good
I’m 6’2 around 190lbs. I set my stance at 12, -12 and around 23.5 inches. It’s whatever is comfortable for you and it’s always ok to adjust as you go when getting set up.
why 0 degree on second foot?
Zift because beginners don't ride switch
So I skate goofy (pointing left) and I have a snowboard with the feet the other way. How do I switch them so they're the other way?
Ah, nevermind, I just undid the screws and did some finagling
@@Sage-qd6tf Did it work?
that's regular.
@@bathedinshadow no, like if you're standing and then turn to your left, my right foot is in the front.
@@wbharris1031 it did indeed work. I have been snowboarding once (1) ever and I used that board. I broke part of the binding on the left foot off but I already got it fixed
Bad advice - "always leave a little bit more nose than tail" - well, in other sources they say that there are "centered" snowboards (setback=0) and "directional" snowboards (with setback 10-20mm typically), and that it is NOT RECOMMENDED to have setback on centered snowboards.
atumko What sources...
this guy is funny
learned how to adjust stances. the true adjustment actually takes quite some time by adjusting as well as adapting to the new stance. this takes quite some iterations. I actually adjusted and finalized my own stance at home when doing this workout. End of day, adjusting and adapting stance at home feels much easier at home than on the mountain LOL ruclips.net/video/PnUbGVnmLg0/видео.html
Custom grow 420’s son?
how much would all of this cost
You can get a decent board and pair of bindings for around $600, but can easily go upwards of $1000-$1200. I bet you can even find packages that are cheaper, around $300. But quality lasts especially if you wax and maintain.
AR3Y27 I just literally hours ago bought a board and binding package for $310 they're rare but not impossible to find
Thx
Nick Szczypinski was it new? And what brand was it? I didn't say that it wasn't possible just that a in my opinion most decent quality boards you see are at least 300 and bindings around 200-300
Nick Szczypinski that's a good deal tho and for a beginner definitely the way to go. My first set was by no means fancy lol
where should bindings be placed for park?
+Zachary Byrne for some reason my front is always longer no matter what
+Hongboum Kennard and i dont have those binding settings where its a stright line. i have to screw mine in
thats because you board is directional(longer nose than tail), and not twin, (same nose than tail) seeing it from the inserts (holes for the screws)
30/30/30: 30 inch spread, +30, -30 ...kidding, but I swear I've seen it more than once. Especially in the PNW.
So that's not hila from h3h3 in the thumbnail?
My boards on 0 - 0 angles is that good or nah ?
Track Id ?
Snowboard shop "adjusted" my bindings when all they were supposed to do was sharpen it. They assumed I road normal when actually ride goofy. Pretty irritated, didn't notice until I was at the mountain with no tools to fix it.
That’s why I bought $8 ski/board edge tuner and do everything myself like wax and binding setup. It won’t get messed up
The music is really annoying. Good explanation after all
that guy has really no f idea!
Lol. He's a pro Snowboarder XD
***** yeah, make looks good.. yeah nice black and red
You could not be more wrong Danny. So a good binding position just for you and not everyone else? You should know better. Why don’t you? You should remove this video from RUclips bc zero degrees is a terrible place to put the back foot.
Anybody else a total noob and think this youtube vid is total BS? Like bruh...I need some step to step shit. He don't even mention if the washer on on the bottom and bolt on top. Maybe be common sense, but still.
The basic take-away on this whole series has been "we don't actually know, just go have the guy at zumiez do it for you". This guy clearly has no idea what he's talking about, clearly just picks the pretty board and has a tech from the factory set up the board for him. absolutely worthless.
Travis Hixenbaugh that's his pro model board and he's a snowboarding legend.... what were you saying?
This is a pretty basic "get on the snow nub setup" this by no means is an advanced setup of bindings in the slightest. Honestly I have been riding since high school I am 32 now and have had about 6 different boards in that time. In the end its all personal preference/style/park vs. carving ect. and so forth this video is a "here is how to not look like a dumb nub" by all means it is NOT a complete video in any regard.
I was told when I was young that you also want to line up your high backs bottom edge evenly with the heel edge of the board. I was waiting for this step but Danny never mentioned it, is this true?
