RUSH TO THE RING! My Ford GT Challenge to Reach the Nurburgring

- It's a rush to the Ring in my Ford GT! Firstly, let's find out if the Ferrari's battery comes back to life, then straight on the way in the GT for a road trip to the Nürburgring. With the challenge to squeeze in a lap on the same day, timings run tight, but what a car it is at both the Green Hell and on the Autobahns!
Almost as soon as I had got back to London, it's time to get immediately back on the road in the other direction, this time with the Ford GT and a long drive with a challenge to make it to the Nürburgring in time for a lap during Touristenfahrten! However, the first problem is to resolve the flat battery in the Ferrari GTC4Lusso, that was completely dead upon my return before.
Having been the victim of a fuse blowing the mains switch, meaning the battery charger had disconnected, I borrowed an almighty Ctek re-conditioner from Windrush, a nearby storage facility. Thankfully this has done the job and pulsed power back in, bringing the Lusso back to life and saving the requirement for an expensive new battery at this stage. When all is running, the next mission is to load up my luggage into the minimal space available in the GT.
To date my Ford GT has been well traveled; going across the USA, on an adventure to Sardinia, and all around Europe, but I've never really taken it for a proper tour with a lot of luggage simply due to the fact you cannot do that with a passenger. While I had big plans back in April and May, those were all pushed to the side meaning since it was in Chicago at the start of November, the car hasn't seen much usage and it's time to get that changed.
The drive from London to Nurburg, and onwards to Frankfurt is approximately 600 miles or 1,000km on the road, and door to door including a stop for a lap and dinner, about 15 hours or so. However, I've never previously made the journey and then immediately followed up with a lap on the Green Hell the same day, so a new challenge to get there without hold ups against the traffic at the Eurotunnel and in Belgium.
With all going well, and making it just in time, Misha jumps on board with me for a lap where we're quickly followed out by Robert in the Ferrari 488 Pista too. Knowing well it's the first lap back with the GT, it's an easy enough cruise around to get a feel for it on a busy Touristenfahrten session, but nonetheless great fun as always.

I feel like I've been in London for only 5 minutes after coming back with my AMG GT R Pro, but this time it's into the Ford GT for a run straight to the Nurburgring to squeeze in a lap the same day with Misha and Robert. With both the Green Hell and Autobahns to be enjoyed, the Ford GT does not disappoint!

He definitely is, and you can see by just how he forgot that last year he specifically go outside the line just to avoid scraping as when the GT is in track mode, it’s too low for nurburgring.
Also how he decide to put it on track mode in the first place, I thought he preferred using sport when going through Nurburgring with the GT specifically, but he decide not to eh,

Its quite embarrassing actually...hes been in and out of track-bred cars for years and is just NOW learning how to drive them.

I love how well the car performs, and how beautiful it is,… But it’s just a six cylinder and… I can’t get over that, sorry. It takes away from what the original was.
In recent years, Ford has encouraged free thinking, out of the box design, resulting in a host of brilliant enthusiast offerings. This is an example of their potential. It's about corporate survival. They need a different future right now or their stodgy past will drag them down. I hope their huge engineering expertise can make the Mustang Mach E a credible entry in the BEV market. VW is watching like a vulture as Ford's sketchy finances creep closer to the precipice.

I mean like how you managed to get into the fortunate position you are in now, I seem to recall you worked in London finance? Anyway I would be grateful if you could point me to an early video telling your story if one exists or maybe you could do a new one? From battery tenders and tire savers to planning and itineraries, everything Shmee does seems so organized and calculated, even down to the parking scenario where the GT door's shape can open with perfect clearance next to the Lusso's wing mirror. Its pretty inspiring.
Yeah you can see his character in his video production, he’s a bit of a perfectionist.

And how he keeps a positive nature out of things. Watching his vids is now a form of meditation.
He oozes positivity!
No matter what someone else might be driving, Shmee never makes any derogatory remark about their car.
He thinks fast too, as you can notice in his running commentary.

What an amazing sound from that Ford. The new exhaust really makes a massive difference to the tone when you are pushing it. It now sounds like a race car, not a road car.

Bib took his Peugeot 106 diesel from Warwickshire to Bournemouth and back today. It handled the journey incredibly well and drew admiring glances from many an envious driver, including a Maclaren driver. Being admired is one of the many upsides to Peugeot 106 diesel ownership.....

I can almost imagine the Ford GT giddy and grinning being able to stretch its legs being driven well. Might even say other cars on the track was happy you passed them looking at that GT's butt pulling away braking late. Just beautiful.

That closing image of the Ford GT outside the Nurburgring Nordschleife is absolutely stunning. And that drive must have been quite epic. Can not wait to see some adventures with the SLS, the GT, and the M8 - all very different cars, all very awesome in their own ways.

Fantastic lap Tim! Wow that sounds good. I liked hearing the GT doing all the talking at the end of the lap. I'm glad she didn't have any damage from the scraping. I'm sure you are as well. That must have been a bit stressful till you got it back in the garage to find out it was all ok! I'm glad as well. Keep these videos coming. The steering on the GT was so direct....waw! The exhaust sound was very harmonious. I wish every V6 sounded as good.

I know Tim is used to driving miles but you must feel absolutely knackered. Hats off the longest I’ve driven mostly twisting highland roads was 385 miles and so glad to pull up on the drive. Mind you I’m doing 390 in a few weeks.
